Kali'da awoke to the change of watch and sat up, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. She saw Jesari being awoken, too, and gave a sleepy smile to the other woman as she was roused from her slumber. The early morning shift for watch suited Kali'da just fine; it'd give her a chance to get up and prepare her self through prayers offered to the Wendo before they started their day. Today they'd have to take inventory of their situation and assess their next steps. She canted her head to the side as she began pondering what exactly they would do, but quickly shoved that to the side for later.

She busied herself by tidying up her own sleeping area and checking her belongings for any bugs or critters that may have decided her things would make a great new hiding spot. Nothing worse than putting on a boot with a scorpion in it. Once she was satisfied that she was prepared and packed for whatever the day held, she moved to sit on the ground (or a rock, tree stump, etc) and began her morning prayers to the Wendo spirits. It was an awkward thing this morning, seeing as there was ben kudu about and she had no private quarters, but she made due with some of the more generic invocations and offerings.

Jesari stops her work momentarily at Sizara's questioning, looking toward the pack containing her grandfather's urn for a brief second before speaking. "We were close. He loved to entertain people, mostly with stories borrowed from his home. And he always had a way of making all of my worst problems just seem so...small." A wistful sigh slowly turned into a sly smile as she continued. "Wish he was here now just so I could hear how he'd try to cheer me up." Jesari cracked a slight smile and spoke to herself in a mock deep voice. "Don't worry, girl. You always said you wanted a chance to make more friends."

Jesari awoke looking more tired than she had when she had fallen asleep. It was hard to relax without a proper roof over her head and even the smallest rustling of leaves left her mind conjuring horrific monsters that were lurking just outside. She did her best to return the smile offered by Kali'da as she sat across from her. Jesari could only awkwardly stare at the other woman in curious silence, her mind unable to come up with a suitable conversation starter. It was probably for the best; Kali'da looked like she didn't want to be disturbed and those still sleeping would likely appreciate the quiet.

When Ishirou or Aerys stir from their sleep (whichever one wakes up first), Jesari takes the opportunity to stretch her legs by slowly walking up with a look of concern on her face. "Are...you feeling ok?"

Alexite yawned and stretched as the sun rose. He checked his face where a nice beard was already showing. Deciding to 'go wild', he picked up his spear and neared Ishirou.

He sat down next to the Tian man and started to sharpen his weapon. "Did you get a good night's sleep?"

He then pointed to the sword he always kept on hand, "I trust you can use that fine blade. And we need people like that if we are to survive. Is there anything I should know about? Will you be able to help out today?"

Sizara smiled at Jesari nodding.

"He seems to have been a great and kindhearted man. Wish I could have met him."

The elf them walks over and kisses Jesari forehead saying, "Don't worry as the spirits as my witnesses I'll make sure you get your grandfather back home. Besides I have grown fond of you and the others and I don't the spirits would be happy if I abandon you. If you need any help Jesari let me know."

The elven barbarian smiled at the human.

Later during her turn at hers and Alexite's turns at the watch, Sizara sighed and began walking around a bit her sword drawn just in case. She kept a close eye out for trouble.

When everyone awoke, Sizara stretched herself as she got off the tree she was leaning on. She put her hide armor back on as well as checking her equipment. "So is everyone well rested and ready to explore? I want to make sure we take of any hidden dangers before those same dangers come after us. An old Ekujae saying goes, 'When you do not know of what dangers lurk around the corner is one thing. But to ignore those same dangers and let them come to you is the mark of either a madman or a suicidal fool, usually that person is both. Better to tackle danger head on first and that way you don't have to worry so much.'"

The elf grinned.

Council of Thieves Maps

Here they are the info I forgot to add to my last post.

Jesari:
Your previous detection of magical auras has not revealed anything magical about your flowers. Seems like the strange features of your flower don't originate from a magical source.

Hakeem:
Jask's intentions seems to be pacific, and his speech lacks any sign of nervousness in Jask's behaviour. You could swear that everything he said was true or at least that Jask himself his fully convinced of it.

Kali'da:
Kali'da knowledge about the jungle are vast and detailed, so I cannot really describe them here without making a very huge wall of text. The most useful notions she remembers now, and the most important information to mention here, are that the jungle is full of dangerous wildlife and flora, and one must be cautious while proceeding in the jungle to avoid being overwhelmed by these threats. Yet the most dangerous thing about the jungle, especially a tropical jungle like this one, is the copious presence of pests such as mosquitoes, biting flies, gnats and ants, many of which carry diseases that can easily infect a creature. Sleeping a shelter helps to make this threat less frequent, as the smoke from a campfire helps to ward off insects, but a shelter cannot totally eliminate the danger. Having a medic in a camp, someone who takes care of the camp's hygiene and heals those who carry diseases, would be a good way to solve the problem, or at least this was the way followed by your tribe.
Another major concern in the jungle is the exposure to heat, especially now that you're in the height of summer. Heat's effects could prove devasting for creatures not used to them: usually, the hottest period of the day is from 12:00 am to 03:00 pm. An expert traveler knows how to alleviate the effects of the heat and can help his companions taking preventive measures such as proceeding with a large leaf over his head, frequently wetting his head and hairs, etc. Yet sometimes this is not enough to prevent the heat from having serious effects on those who travels while the sun is high in the sky. Is usually reccomended to spend the hottest hours of the day in shade or shelter without taking part in stranuous activity to avoid heat's effects.

Jesari and Aerys Scene

Aerys glares at Jesari, looking at her from head to toe with a sneer. "How should I feel, you stupid snotty kid? I just lost everything to that f%&+i*g ship, and that's all."

GM's Rolls:

Jesari's Sense Motive check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20

Jesari feels like the half-elf nervousness origins from something different from a mere dislike of her person. Jesari has the impression that there's something more that makes Aerys grumpy. She frequently smacks her lips, a behaviour you've seen on one of your ex-friends back in Cheliax: he was an alcoholic, and never got over his problem. When he didn't had something strong to drink, he used to smack his lips exactly in the same way as Aerys now does.

=========================================================================== =======================================

Alexite and Ishirou Scene

Ishirou looks at Alexite with a vacuous expression. He then spits on the leaves floor and answers: "A good night sleep you say? How can one sleep good with all this f@#%i*g mess around him? Yet I slept worse than today, so it's ok.". Ishirou's expression clearly points out that he doesn't seem to like speaking. Pressed by Alexite's questions, Ishirou seems to force himself to answer, with an impatient expression: "Do you want me to prove that I can use it? Maybe I can stretch my muscles against you? Don't be a dick, kid. I've been using this blade when you were still sucking milk from your mother's breast.".

Ishirou, that was previously sitting on the floor, gets up, pause to spit, then concludes: "I won't help. I don't need the help of a bunch of squirts to survive. I endured worse situations than this. I've got a precise goal here..."

GM's Rolls:

Alexite's Sense Motive check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

Alexite tries to decipher Ishirou strange and brusque manner, but isn't able to do so. Seems like the Tian is just a person who has endured too much trouble. Yet there's something curious in his frequent touching of the scroll case which you gave him back recently.

=========================================================================== =======================================

Collective Scene

As always, Ishirou and Aerys don't seem to pay much attention to your speech, and of course do not answer. The boasting Sasha, to the contrary, seems enthusiast: "Ready to explore? I was born for it! We need to find a solution to our situation. I propose we build a "scouting party" to explore the island while the others stay back at the campsite to keep it clean and safe". Jask quietly nods in approval.

It's only a matter of minutes before you realize that something is missing. Your sentences are too easy to complete without being interrupted and there's a voice that's not intervening.

"Wait, wait, wait, wait...Where's Gelik?", asks Sasha looking at her surroundings.

"He said that he was going to venture into the jungle to find some exotic insects to add to his "collection". I tried to stop him, but he cheated me and snaked away, at least judging from what I see", adds Jask with a worried expression.

Sasha shakes her head: "Oh, that f&+~i*g, curious gnome! He's such a...Argh, I would be better to keep my mouth shut. We must find him before it's too late. The jungle can be deadly to the unprepared. Who's with me?"

You can freely decide to follow Sasha on her rescue mission or not. If you won't post in the next 24 hours I will assume that your character chooses to stay at the camp. Otherwise, please describe how you're going to search for Gelik. I will make the proper Survival checks to avoid getting lost for you. Please also add a Perception check at the end of your post if you're going to actively search for Gelik with your senses.

The reply that Aerys' gave was pretty much exactly what Jesari was expecting to hear. But just as Jesari was about to give up and leave Aerys to her own thoughts, she noticed a mannerism that was all too familiar. Her initial rejection gave way to determination when Jesari put the pieces together; Aerys was an alcoholic and Jesari was going to help her through this. Jesari cast her eyes down in thought and folded her hands in front of her lap as she started to talk to Aerys. "You know...I used to know someone that had the same problem as you. I don't know what he was running from but he let his problem completely consume him. People tried to help but he pushed them away every time until eventually he found himself utterly alone; everyone that loved him was too frustrated to keep trying." Jesari sighed and focused her gaze onto Aerys' eyes. "I refuse to believe anyone actually wants to be alone. So please...let me help you." Jesari's head turned to look back toward the camp, her face returning with a slight smile. "I'm sure the others would feel the same way. I mean...like it or not, we're in this together."

Trying to get Aerys to open up a little and be a little less hostile.

Jesari stepped forward at Sasha's rallying call. "Yes, let's go. We don't know what's out there. The sooner we can make sure Gelik's safe, the better."

The ranger was not to be talked in such a manner, "Hey, lighten up here! We're all on the same team so your cooperation is desired."

Hakeem takes a bit of pride in the castaway's ability to quickly make camp. He also rests a little easier, as he feels that Jask's words are genuine. He bids his goodnights to the others as they bed down to rest, and sets up shop with Jask.

" So Jask, Tell me about yourself." He begins, crouching low with his eyes to the horizon. " Your troubles lie in Cheliax but is that where you were born and reared? "

After some time and some silence he continues " And you've mentioned this 'Nethys' ...Tell me more of him?"

Collective Scene

Hakeem shakes his head disapprovingly at the runaway gnome. " The last thing we need is folks running off on their own out here....but let's go."

He follows Sasha and the others to find Gellik.

Female Elf Female Elf Barbarian 1

The jungle was a dangerous place and Sizara knew that it was also a place of great wonder. However, she had not many gnomes before. Maybe this was a common trait among their kind.

"I'll go with you Sasha and find Gelik. He is a curious gnome but I guess curiosity is something common among his people. It is best we find him quickly before something happens to him."

As other's begin waking, Kali'da ceases her prayers and listens to the various snippets of conversation from the others. Already she set her brain working trying to figure out what they'd all need to survive long enough to either escape the island of be rescued. Not that she knew how anyone would know where they were let alone rescue them.

Wait, what did they just say?

"Gelik's gone on his own?" Kali'da didn't wait for a real answer before gathering up the supplies she figured they'd need for a trek around the jungle. Primarily waterskins and probably at least one length of rope.

"Just my luck dat someone had to go wanderin' off..." she grumbled. "Well, can't waste time. If we goin' we go now."

Alexite and Ishirou Scene

"I assure you that my plan does include getting out of here...Maybe just a little richer than I was before we were stranded here, but this is none of your business".

When Alexite starts to walk away, saying something about the scroll case, Ishirou reacts by spitting on the leaves floor and shouting at him while he gets away: "My thankfulness will be your only way out of here! Once I've found what I want, perhaps I will help you out getting out of this jungle hell!"

=========================================================================== ================================================

Aerys and Jesari Scene

Aerys react with nervousness to Jesari's words about her "problem". "You don't have the right to speak to me in such a...", the half-elf says before letting her words fall before Jesari's speech. Jesari proves so kind and effective in her speech that Aerys nervousness quickly crumple, and the half-elf lowers her head. "I suppose it's your feminine intuition that's speaking for you...You're right. I've got a problem.", she whispers, with some tears appearing in her eyes.

After a short embarassed silence, Aerys says, before walking away: "If you're willing to help, well...I know that in the jungle grow viper nettle berries...I've read that they can help to recover faster from...you know...".

=========================================================================== ================================================

Jask and Hakeem Scene

Jask smiles at Hakeem while the Garundi man asks him about his origins. "It's good that the new generations are interested in the stories of the older ones", he says with a smile, "I was born in Sargava, in the city of Eleder precisely. My father, a respectable man named Tabansi, had always been serving with loyalty his lord, Alazario Derindi. Think that once he also saved his lord's life from a slave uprising, renegotiating the terms of their service and granting them a contract. He was a great man. I grew up in Eleder as a result, serving my lord Alazario and his family with pride and honor. I was no slave. I chose to work for him. Then when Alazario died, I had troubles with her widow and I was forced to flee to Cheliax". Realizing to have just made a long-lasting monologue, Jask pauses himself, smiles, and adds: "Well, this is the short version of my story. Perhaps one day I will tell you the long one, if you'll have the patience to listen to me".

Once a bit of time has passed, and Hakeem makes his question about Nethys, Jask smiles again, happy that someone has taken interest in his faith: "Don't you know anything about Nethys, Hakeem? It's a well renowned deity here in Garund, and it sounds like a big surprise to me that a cultured man like you are doesn't know Nethys". Jask laughs for a while, then gives a pat on Hakeem's shoulder and continues: "Well, I suppose we can take care of it. After all, we have a lot of time to spend together in the times to come, even though I suspect you'll be among those chosen to explore the island. In short, if myths are to be believed, Nethys once was a mortal king, a powerful spellcaster and scholar. His researches lead him to unveil the mistery of the world itself, and in that very moment his mind shattered for the vastness of the knowledge acquired and he ascended to godness. As a god, Nethys ha two aspects, the white one and the black one: the former leads him to protect the world, the last to destroy it.".

Reacting to the probably uncredulous Hakeem's expression, Jask smiles and continues: "Don't worry, Hakeem. It's a complicate matter, and discussing it in the heart of the night doesn't help us. We'll speak later about it. For now, just know that I worship only the white aspect of Nethys, and that's the reason why my holy symbol is all-white. It was a gift from my granfather, who served in the temple of Nethys in Sothis and was a revered priest, but that is another story...".

This post is intended to close last night's RP scenes that were still opened. In the next post I will advance the story, I should post within some hours.

Council of Thieves Maps

None of you have except Jesari made a Perception check to find Gelik. I'll have to roll for you. Please next time pay more attention to my posts.

GM Rolls:

Alexite's Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Hakeem's Perception Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Kali'da's Perception Check: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (19) + 0 = 19
Sasha's Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Sizara's Perception Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Sasha's Survival Check to avoid getting lost: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14

The "rescue party" ventures into the jungle in search of Gelik. Sun has just risen over the horizon, so the typical mugginess it's not yet a problem. 2 hours pass before your search turns out something useful. A couple of times you almost feared to get lost. In the end, it's Jesari who detects a feeble magical aura hailing from the dense canopy who finds the first clue of Gelik's presence. The group follows her while she moves forward keeping her concentration: suddenly, Hakeem and Kalida notice that Gelik is just above their head, wrapped in a thick web cocoon hanging from a large tree branch. They shout to their companions to inform them, but for some of the party members it's already too late: Sasha, Sizara and Jesari were so focused on finding Gelik or distracted by other things (such as concentrating on her spell in Jesari's case) to not notice the thick webs between some trees in the area.

Jesari, Sasha and Sizara are entagled, and cannot move until they break free from the web's grasp, since the webs are attached to the trees.

But the situation only worsens: suddenly, an enormous spider the size of a human comes down from a tree, suspended on his own web spin. The spider produces a shrill and moves towards Sizara to attack her while she's still entangled by the web.

Please, update your stats (you've slept recently, so you may have gained some hp).

Hakeem set out on the search for Gellik with Jask's words still weighing on his mind, but after two hours trekking through the jungle in the shadowy light of dawn, his thoughts were on the present.

He saw the silky cocoon that encased Gellik and started to call out a warning, but wasn't quite fast enough. In the blink of an eye, a large spider had shown itself and entangled three of his companions.

He pumped the muscles in his legs and darted past Sizara. Rolling forward across the jungle-floor, he tried to get behind the beast and divide it's attention.

Sorry about that. I had assumed after we figured out who the party was we'd move in to the jungle search and skill checks then. My bad!

Kali'da frowned up at the trapped gnome, ready to give him a thorough tongue lashing. But her words were cut short when the massive spider descended onto the party while three others found themselves entangled within the spider's web. Kali'da buried her face in her palm for just a moment in a fit of exasperation.

She moved forward, but found herself unable to get close enough to the spider to do anything really helpful for the time being. Instead, she situated herself behind those who had gotten themselves stuck, ready to aid them should they need it.

The elf wished she had been looking where she was going as she became entangled in the spider's webbing. She soon found herself a bit...tied up, although she could still move her arms, the webbing had wrapped her hands around the hilt of her longsword. To make the situation embarrassing for the elven barbarian woman was that the webs had gotten wrapped her head, specifically her mouth, acting like an improvised gag while other webbing had tied up her legs keeping her in place as the giant spider came down and suck its fangs into Sizara. Luckily her armor was tough enough to protect her.

"Mmph! Hmmph!"

Her yells of rage and embarrassment were muffled by the gag as she swung her longsword at the spider, making her battle with the monster a bit...humorous to say the least.

Longsword Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17

Making sure I did that right. According the rules concerning damage, attacking with a weapon while holding it with two hands you add your strength bonus times 1 1/2 so that comes out as 10.5 but I toss out the .5 as I couldn't find anything that says you round up. I hope that's okay. Also she's raging so hence the higher numbers too.

Following the magical auras left behind by Gelik unfortunately led Jesari straight into the spider's trap without her even noticing. The young woman struggled against the sticky web almost instantly, pulling away with all her might. She proved a bit too caught up to get the sort of leverage she needed, so instead Jesari focused on carefully freeing one limb at a time, peeling the web away as best she could.

If Hakeem's flanking maneuver is successful, You'd get a +2 to attack, so that would cancel out the -2 there.

Ah okay! Thank you for pointing that out!

Council of Thieves Maps

The dangerous situation created by the presence of the thick webs and the sudden appearing of the giant spider is quickly solved tank to the readiness and nerves of the group.

While Jesari and Sasha try to break free from the webs, succeeding in a few seconds, Hakeem moves quickly towards the spider, closing the escape route to the creature. In the meanwhile, Alexite dashed forward and plunges his spear, held with two hands, in the spider’s innards; Sizara, on the other hand, without worrying about her entanglement, unloads all her frustration and wielding her longsword two-handed, lower her weapon on the creature, slicing it off along with several web’s filaments, finishing this way the job started from Alexite. The spider gives off a last deathrattle before collapsing lifeless to the floor. During combat, Kali’da had the chance to study the creature and draw on her memories of the jungle and the creatures inhabiting it.

Kali’da:
That creature was a giant spider. You don’t know much about the creature, but you remember that its poison has the effect to lower one’s strength. Some hunters in your tribe valued giant spider’s venom and used every chance they had to extract the precious poison from the dead body of the creature, when they happened to meet and defeat one.

Once also Sizara breaks free from the webs with the group’s help, the castaways approach the gnomo wrapped in the web’s cocoon high on a tree, and with everyone’s collaboration Sasha manages to lift herself up to a high branch, cut the filament which was holding Gelik suspended grabbing it with her free hand and lower it to safety in his companions’ arms.

The group works promptly to free Gelik from the thick webs in which he’s wrapped, and once the gnome manages to break free, he smiles with an enthusiast expression, almost amused: “Oh, thank you very much for your help! I knew you would come right on time to save me!”. Then, as nothing has happened, he pronounces some strange magical words to clean himself and his clothes up from the webs’ filth. After that, he says with light heartedness: “Well, danger passed! It was a very funny and amusing experience my friends! Now, let’s get back at the camp, come on!”.

Sasha casts an harsh gaze on the gnome: “D’you really think to get away with this? You made us stick our necks, you little son of a…”.

Female Elf Female Elf Barbarian 1

Sizara was extremely annoyed. Not at the gnome (okay maybe just a little) but she was more annoyed at herself and for not spotting the giant spider, in addition to getting herself tied up like that and embarrassing herself.

"Sasha let it go. If anyone needs scolding it's me. I should have spotted that spider and yet I didn't. So you'll have to excuse me if I'm a bit...um...I guess the word I'm looking for is miffed."

To show her frustration she slammed her fist against a nearby tree, leaving an impression of her knuckles in the bark, but also cutting her hand a bit.

She was clearly annoyed.

Kali'da stood beside Sasha, arms crossed and eyebrows raised like an angry (and therefore disappointed) mother.

"What exactly ya t'ink ya doin' out hea' on ya own anyways? Ya say ya know de jungle, say ya know ta take care, an' here ya are, runnin' around wit' no buddy. Everyone knows ya need ta use de buddy system out hea'!" Kali'da was cross, that was for sure, but she was also determined to get an explanation.

"An' Sizara, Shasha, and Jesari, ya gotta walk wit' bot' eyes open! Runnin' right in ta the giant spida' webs..." Kali'da lecturing fades off into various mutterings under her breath.

Female Elf Female Elf Barbarian 1

"I know that alright, Kali'da! I already feel bad enough for leading us into...mess!"

Apparently, the elf's pride as a tracker and warrior were bruised but the truth of the matter was that she was deeply sorry for leading others into the spider's web more than getting herself tied up by the webbing.

She decided to look around and scanned the area for anything of interest.

Alexite cleans his spear, slick with black ichor. After a couple of passes on the grass, he starts looking around.

"Everyone just shut it! This is not the way to come together as a group. We must pull together if we want to get out of this mess."

He approaches Gelik, "That was it! No more stupidity. We are not going to risk our lives for you again if you do this sort of thing again. From now on, you go with a buddy like Kali'da said. Understood?"

Gelik or others?

Seeing that the elven woman was searching the area, Alexite called to her. "Wait Sizara. Let's do this together. Everyone else stay put. We won't be long."

The ranger then went about looking for the spider's lair to see if there was anything worth plundering.

Hakeem stood by with arms crossed as the group devolved into bickering. He was far from happy to have wasted two hours rescuing the gnome, but decided against scolding. He doubted it would do any real good, and if the little gnome insisted on not learning from his mistakes, Hakeem knew there would come a time when they wouldn't be there to save him. Then Gelik would have to survive or die and fertilize the greenery, such was the way of things.

After Alexite speaks up rather forcefully, Hakeem nods and uncrosses his arms. He leaned on his spear now and watched as the human and elf went to scout their surroundings. More quietly after the tension had died down he crouched low to whisper to Gellik. " You really must be more careful, little one."

As if reminding himself, he kept an eye out for danger from the groups flank as they waited.

Jesari had half a mind to scold Gelik for putting other people in danger to sate his own curiosity but as she finished extracting herself from the webbing, it seemed everyone else was already way ahead of her. Not really looking to add more fuel to the fire, Jesari instead quietly slinked over to Kali'da's side to whisper in her ear. "Do you maybe know what viper nettle berries look like? And maybe where we could find some?"

Sighing a bit as Alexite scolded everyone, Sizara was already searching when the human ranger called out to her to wait and let him help her. She wanted to tell him to leave her alone for the moment but decided against and allowed Alexite to aid her. There would be time to brood later she thought to herself.

"You'll have to excuse me Alexite. I'm not in a happy mood right now," the elf told him.

Council of Thieves Maps

Gelik answers to the reproaches with an unconcertned gesture of his hand: "Why you humans have to be so boring? It was just a morning exploration after all...Are you not amazed by the wonderful variety of creatures and plants of this jungle? I just couldn't resist it. Besides, I've got a personal collection to fill, and there's not a better place in the whole world to do that than this one. By the way, I'm sorry for the spider setback...But it was funny, you must admit it!", says the gnome putting a smile upon his face and starting to get back to the camp.

In the meanwhile, Alexite and Sizara are busy in searching the area, but their inspection doesn't turn out nothing of value. Even the spider's lair doesn't contain anything particularly useful nor edible.

Kali'da:
Kali'da knows the viper nettle: this rare plant grows along riverbanks in tropical regions. Kali'da though have never heard of its healing properties regarding alcohol addiction (a problem that's not very common among her people); she knows that viper nettle berries can help to cure sickness in a general way, but nothing directly concerning alcohol addiction. From an external point of view, viper nettles resemble to clusters of thorny vines wrapped around a bunch of green or red berries.

Hakeem stays alert, but he doesn't notice anything suspicious around.

=========================================================================== ======================================

When the "rescue party" comes back to the camp, its members explain what has happened in the jungle and how they managed to find and save Gelik. Jask rebukes Gelik with a paternal attitude, but the gnome seems to not have learned the lesson.

You all have your dinner around the campfire, eating the rations scavenged from the Jenivere's wreck. In the meanwhile, Jask brings up the "next move" topic: "So now that we are so lucky to be all together, I would suggest to discuss our next moves. I've been thinking about this matter for hours now, and personally I would suggest that we form a "scouting party" whose task would be to explore the island in search of resources and possibily a way to get out of here. In the meanwhile, the other could stay at the camp and try to make it a liveable place".

A discussion ensues, but in the end everyone seems convinced that Jask's solution is the better option. After the choice is made, Sasha rise the question: "Alright, so we're gonna split in two groups. How shall we decide who's exploring and who's stayin'?".

"Perhaps", suggests Jask, "we have some volunteers...". He's clearly looking at you. "Who's up for the exploration?", asks the Garundi. Nobody has the courage to break the ice first.

She was a do-er.

She looked about expectantly at the others, already having a hunch about who would want to go. Some seemed motivated by proving themselves, others by the aspect of adventure, and others still just to distract themselves.

The ranger nodded and calmed down some now that the immediate danger had passed, "Your skills and knowledge are welcomed so thank you, Kali'da. I will also form part of the scouting party. I've honed my skills in jungles much like this so this is... home."

The hesitation and facial expression in the ranger made some believe that the jungle wasn't always home for Alexite.

"We'll need others to comer with us but who will remain that can wield a weapon effectively and fend off wildlife?" He looked at Ishirou hoping to engage the morose man by playing to his strengths or so Alexite hoped.

"I'll go with the scouting party. I'm quite skilled with weapons. And I believe Gelik should come with us as well provided he can stay with the group. And it'll let us keep an eye on him."

Sizara's temper had settled down somewhat now so she was able to think clearly.

" Aye, I'll be scoutin' too." He piped up once the group was safely back at camp and discussing their next move. " I don't have the knowledge that Kali'da has but I was born and reared under the sky, and spent quite a bit of that time under da jungle canopy. " He picks over some scraps of his dinner absent-mindedly as he speaks.

He shakes his head at Sizara's suggestion. " I disagree." He says simply at first, glancing down at the little gnome. " The little one will only slow us down, and we'll have enough hurdles to leap without the addition of that one. " He did his best to offer Gellik a comforting smile " Besides, we'll need your touch in maintaining this base camp. " He added, in an attempt to appeal to the gnome's vanity.

Alexite nodded, "You make good sense. He'll slow us down or keep us occupied looking out for him when we should be concentrating on exploring."

He looked at Gelik, "Besides there will be plenty of interesting things to do here at camp."

He turned to the others, "Didn't we find some maps on board the ship? Perhaps the gnome can review them and figure out where we are and how to get out of here?"

Sizara was about to argue with Alexite and Hakeem but then quickly realized the logic they were making. Smiling she nodded in agreement, saying, "Good points. I had forgotten what a great help he'll be here at camp. I'm sure he will have much to do to keep himself busy and not get bored. Besides the wonderful tales he told us prove that he is capable of handling improving our camp."

Sizara also nodded in agreement about the maps as well.

"Indeed I think we should look at the maps to get a general idea of where we are....oh by the way we Jask do you think we could borrow some of those potions please? I'm sure they will come in handy during our scouting expedition."

The idea of exploring a potentially dangerous island didn't sit well with Jesari, but she had to admit that there weren't exactly many other options. "I can cast a few spells if that would help..." Jesari trailed off, immediately regretting the decision to interject herself into the discussion of who should go out and explore the island. Jesari sighed inwardly at herself but continued to put on a calm exterior as she looked toward Aerys out of the corner of her eye. "And there's some important things I'd like to look for."

Female Elf Female Elf Barbarian 1

Sizara had been meaning to ask Jesari this question since she first met her and decided that now was a good enough time to ask.

Jesari I've seen you do magic and I've been curious to know what kind of magic it is that you do. I know Kali'da gets her magic from the juju spirits since my tribe has encountered those who use juju magic...although we don't use them for obvious reasons...um no offense Kali'da and I know Jask is a cleric.. But where does your magic come from?"

The elven barbaric warrior studied Jesari trying to figure her out.

In an earlier post Sizara had asked Jask if he was a Druid or shaman but since that was missed (and it's way far back), let us all assume that he told her he was a cleric. I hope that's okay. I had even forgotten about that part until I was reading through the posts.

Kali'da's eyes widen, then sharpen down into what is unmistakably anger. "Ya don't do it, because ya don't know how, ben kudu. An' any juju ya seen befoa' ain't been real juju. Ya wouldn't know real juju if it walked up to ya. But if it did," she said, a grin spreading across her face. "Ya still wouldn't know it because ya'd be dead for seein' it in the first place."

Juju isn't practiced in front of outsiders. At all. Ever. For any reason. It's literally forbidden. If an outsider is caught peeking, the rituals stop instantly and retribution of one type or another is had. Other spellcasters have a hard time identifying Juju spells (-2 Spellcraft penalty from a mechanical perspective) due to its unusual nature. It's impossible highly unlikely Sizara would be able to recognize Kali'da as a Juju practitioner.

Jesari didn't have a clue how to answer the question posed by Sizara and bit her bottom lip nervously as she tried to piece together an answer. "Umm...I don't really know. One day I was normal and the next day..." Jesari shrugged, smiling at memories of the strange experiences of her youth, things that were once horrifying but dulled as Jesari came to accept them and were now nothing more than a quirky reminder of her childhood, "...I wasn't. I tried channeling it into something else - I became an acolyte of Shelyn - but it never really worked out the way I wanted. The weirdest part is it doesn't even run in the family...unless my grandfather had a half-demon dad he never told me about."

Female Elf Female Elf Barbarian 1

"I said juju spirits Kali'da. I never said anything concerning juju magic. I assumed that since you mentioned magic that you were probably a shaman who communicated with either juju spirits or nature spirits. I appologize if I offended you. I was trying to understand you a bit more since I see you as a valuable friend and among my people living in the harsh jungle friends are more valuable than gold or gems."

After apologizing to the Mwangi woman to make sure there was no hard feelings between the two as to Sizara friendship was very treasured among the Ekujae, she turned to Jesari and nodded.

I see...maybe you have bonded with a spirit and just don't know it. It happens although eventually the spirit who has bonded with you will reveal itself. And I've heard of Shelyn from pathfinders I have helped in the past. I'm not familiar with her ways as I follow Shimye-Magalla and Ketephys."

True but I've found nothing that says the wild elves of Mwangi don't use juju magic or can't recognize it as well, so I've making this up as I go for her people. And trust I've read everything I could think of to find anything official involving the Ekujae elves. But very little. I hope that's okay y'all. I did get Inner Sea Races sourcebook recently so I'm taking what it says for. Mwangi humans and applying it to the Ekujae with an elven twist. Also sorry for the confusion too! I'm trying to type this out while I'm trying to get some sleep. Sleep and rping don't mixed!

There maybe elves that use it, though there is no mention anywhere of them doing so even in the juju entries, only the specific Mwangi tribes. But even so, Sizara is ben kudu (an outsider or non-believer, not a part of the faith) and wouldn't know it or recognize it at face value. Kali'da's even gone out of her way to not perform her usual rituals in favor of the more generic sort.

I've gone out of my way to ensure that I'm playing Kali'da in a way that would 'mask' her Juju ways.

Female Elf Female Elf Barbarian 1

Okau. And sorry about that. I actually couldn't remember if you mentioned in character that she was a juju oracle. Let's just say that Sizara correctly guessed but Kali'da convinced her she was wrong. Just a suggestion. And I had a long day at work and I have to go a visitation later today since I have a funeral to go to Sunday so my brain is completely fired here. Again sorry for the screwup

Ok, suppose that the conversation between Kali'da and Sizara never took place please. I really love Kali'da's concept and I've done some readings about juju too, and my opinion is that Sizara just cannot be able to know anything about juju. Just suppose the conversation regarding juju never took place please. It wouldn't make sense. Nothing to worry about Sizara, everyone makes mistakes. Next time try just to not suppose too much about the others and your surroundings. Jask didn't answered you because I don't like to have characters labeled by their classes: in my mind, a cleric would define himself as a priest, as would a shaman or an oracle of a deity. A PC doesn't know to which class he belongs. A barbarian conceives himself as a warrior, a ranger as an hunter or survivalist or anything else, but please do not indulge too much in supposing perfect concordance between classes and how a character woould define himself. Hakeem won't probably describe himself as a monk, as Jesari wouldn't define herself as a sorcerer and so on. Try to get used to the idea that a PC is far more than a class. If you use your class in your descriptions is totally ok, but please don't have your own character speak of himself as a barbarian/cleric/sorcerer/monk and so on.

Ishirou, feeling brought up by Alexite's words, turns briefly his attention to the conversation and says: "If you're thinking of me, you'd better find alternatives. I wont put my life at risk for free, not for you, not after what I've experienced. If you need my help, you will have to pay me. 1 golden piece a day. Non-negotiable." The Tian seems not to be willing to collaborate spontaneously.

Gelik at first reacts with proud to the attempts of flattering him into remaining at the camp, but when the adulations are expressed by the third person, he begins to be suspicios and says: "Oh well, seems like you think you found the weak spot of the gnome. Is that what you think? Well, I admit that I adore flattery and compliments, but...I'm not a kid, I can discern when someone is flattering me into doing something and when instead someone is just expressing his appreciation. And I would categorize all of what you said as a flattery of the first type. You just don't want me to come with you. And I can understand that, even if I don't share it. My knowledge would have been precious to you "explorers". Tsk, guess I won't reveal another interesting thing about this island if this is the case...."

When Jesari looks at her, Aerys smiles briefly, before wearing again her somber expression. Still, she doesn't say anything about being part of the exploration group.

Sasha is eager to put her own hat into the ring, but before she's able to speak Jask anticipates her: "Well, seems like we have a five person group ready to take on the exploration's responsibility. I appreciate your courage, my friends, and I will pray for you night and day. This way the group is split: five go out there exploring and five stays here". Sasha tries to intervene, but then she seems to realize her role in the base camp should be vital, with Ishirou not willing to help and Aerys not very much inclined towards collaboration. "I envy you", she says, "I would have liked to be part of this exploration group. Maybe we can switch out members sometimes?", she says hopefully looking at Jask. "If someone gets injured and needs long-term cares, or in the unlucky event that someone loses his life exploring, you will be the first to join the exploration group, Sasha. Until then, your role here at the camp is going to be essential: we are not skilled hunters as you are, we cannot use weapons as you can do and we don't know the jungle around us the way you do. Your presence is very important to us." The girl doesn't seem fully satisfied by Jask's explanation, but still she doesn't dare to discuss what Jask has just said.

========================================================================

After conversation dies out and you're ready to leave, Jask approaches you and says: "You're going to put your life at risk to save us all. There are no words in the Common language to express how much I appreciate your efforts. The minimum that I can do is to give you everything I've got that could prove helpful out there in the wilds: here, these are two healing potions I've bought for my children in case of emergency when I was in Corentyn", says the man with a touched voice. Oh, before you go...You'd better identify those potions you've found on the ship. It could make the difference between life and death to know what your potions are able to do. If nobody is able to identify those potions I could help", concludes the Garundi man.

Interesting concept and ideas there. Never actually thought about doing anything like that. Something to think about. And thank you for accepting my apology. Yeah the person who died was a close friend of my family: she taught Sunday school at my church and she taught my dad, she taught me, and she taught my sister. She passed away yesterday. So yeah have to say my final goodbye. Anyhow good idea on tossing out the conversation between Sizara and Kali'da. Also I think a good idea is that Sizara believes that anyone who uses magic is bonded or connected with a spirit. And she'll be curious as to what kind of spirit. Since she wants to get closer to her spirit animal.

Sizara frowned at the Tian man's words, thinking, This man is clearly a mercenary! I've never liked them. Most don't have a bit of honor in them. Give the rest of warriors a bad name.

Gelik seemed to catch on wjat they were doing and now she wished she had kept her mouth shut! She decided to try something...

"You sure you want to keep that information to yourself? That information will surely be useful to us and there's the strong possibility that it might even save our lives. Because of something happens to us who will protect the rest of you?

Turning to Jask and Sasha she smiled especially at Sasha and blushed a bit at Jask's words.

"Well thank you Jask. We will do what we can to live up to your praises."

Hakeem scoffs out loud when the little gnome teases about another interesting thing about this island.
" Come little one... surely you won't be with-holding information from your fellow castaways?" he inquires in a sharp, scolding tone.

Not waiting immediately for a response, mainly because he wasn't sure how much merit he placed in Gelik's words, Hakeem carried this momentum and turned to Ishiourou." And another thing..." He began, his voice booming, even without raising his voice. " Now's hardly the time to be talking about gold, don't be a fool. We're all in this together Tian." He shakes his head and leans in closer. " If we come back to this camp and find that you abandoned these people or left them in cowardice when you could have helped, I will seek you out and hold you responsible myself." He narrows his brows and makes eye contact." Dat's a promise, not a threat friend."

He shoots a quick glance at Gellik" And don't think I've forgot about you."

Hakeem bows his head and clasps Jask's shoulders to welcome the man's thanks." Many thanks for the aid friend... Keep an eye on things here."

" Hmm, I'm not sure.. Can any of you see what these potions are or should we take Jask up on this offer? He addressed the exploring group.

Sizara smiled at Hakeem and she whispered to him saying, "Couldn't have put it better myself my friend."

Sizara then asked, hoping to learn a bit more about Hakeem, "So do you think this island may have any charau-ka, the wicked ape people do you?"

As she asked this question she smiled and winked at Hakeem hoping he would get the message and assist her in getting the others to take matters seriously...well those who would be exploring the jungle were taking the matter seriously but she wasn't too sure about two certain members among the castaways.

The charau-ka would be well known throughout the Mwangi Expanse as well as their usual allegiance to the Gorilla King. Also Sizara is trying to scare Gelik and Ishiourou into well getting their butts into high gear and start pulling their weight!
