Checking that the rope is tied tight, Kryolani attempts to descend the shaft after his fellows, directly into the brewing fight.

Shoulder to shoulder with Roksana, the Sorcerer faces the small horde of monstrous Fey.

Before the enemies rush them, Kryolani speaks to the half-orc, "You were right. Even for a Kobold, you were right to not wait. Just wanted to say that before we got stabbed, killed, and eaten."

Jacobus climbs down the shaft slowly, but efficiently, and places himself behind Roksana. Kryolani quickly joins him and his other companions in this new cave filled with mites. Roksana engages one of the mites in melee soon thereafter, cracking the creature’s skull. Serolt, in the meantime, hits and kills instantly another mite in front of him.

---

The mites quickly moves forward, shrieking furiously, wielding their daggers awkwardly. One of them stays behind and appears to be cursing you in his strange tongue.

DC 21 Spellcraft check:
The mite is casting a spell known as doom. He appears to be able to do it as a spell-like ability, since he’s not speaking any magical formula to cast the spell.

Two of the dagger-wielding mites try to hit Roksana, but the half-orc cavalier easily parries one attack and dodges the second one. Another mite moves closer to Kryolani and tries to stab the noble man, but the sorcerer is able to jump back and avoid being hit. The cursing mite appears to be focusing on Roksana as well*.

As soon as you untie the kobold, the scaly creatures starts hissing frantically at the dead mites, kicking their dead bodies with anger shouting insults in his draconic tongue. Then, after a few seconds, he falls to his knees and thanks you in chirping Common. “Thankss! Many thankss! Chief Ssootsscale ssent me here. Retrieve the ssacred sstatue. He turns to Kryolani and explains in Draconic: “Xhan Darath var zukarish sar vas mashktam shrak krem!*

---

After giving you some time to decide what to do, and assuming you allow him to follow you, Mik-Mek points toward a chasm in front of you, the one the mites used to run away.

A deep and ominous chasm splits the passage. The chasm is a few yards wide, and twice as deep, but thick ropes of tangled roots fill the entire area. The passage continues on the far side of the chasm, and between the two ledges, numerous loops have been tied into the roots to serve as hand- and footholds.

Hurry! Hurry! We need to go! Retrieve the holy sstatue for the sshaman!” hisses the kobold as he points you to the chasm. Of course, he doesn’t appear to be willing to go first!

We’ll need cold iron if we want to hurt them!

The chasm is only 20 feet deep, and its rough walls make for a relatively easy DC 5 Climb check thanks to the numerous roots hanging from the walls. The loopknotted roots between the two passageway ledges form a sort of crossing—by using the loops, a creature can clamber across the chasm with a DC 5 Climb check.

After exchanging a few words with the Mik-Mek*, Kryolani responds, "Cold Iron. He says that Cold Iron weapons cut their flesh easily enough." He chirps something back to the Kobold**, and makes his way to the chasm.

The cavern here smells earthy and dank, but also somehow comforting. As Kryolani gets more used to being in the cave, he is becoming more relaxed. It's an unusual reaction, he knows, but there's not much time to think about it. There are Mites to chase down.

After the last pit had a solid half-dozen of the little buggers, Kryolani doesn't trust this chasm at all, tossing his light-pebble into it and readying a burst of flame for any Mites that could by waiting to poke at people crossing the makeshift bridge.

Mik-Mek quickly answers Kryolani’s question in Draconic: “Xashfravlar shennor mur nosk fariesken! Shark as rustash shana nash?*”. In the meantime, Roksana begins the climb down the chasm, followed soon thereafter by Jacobus, while Serolt keeps an arrow nocked in his bow.

---

Just when you think you’ve everything under control, something unexpected happens. Serolt hears something hissing, deep in the chasm, and he soon informs his allies. The hissing comes from the north of the chasm, and everyone now is able to hear it. But in a matter of seconds, you start hearing also something slithering in the chasm, and…slithering towards you! You lighting spells allow you to see the creature producing those eerie noises: an immense, 25-foot-long giant whiptail centipede slithering towards your from the northern end of the shaft. The creature has two whip-like tendrils that thrash at the end of its tail and its eyes glow red. Fortunately, the creature is too big for this chasm and its movements and hopefully its attacks as well might be somehow hindered.

As he sees the creature, Mik-Mek jumps in both surprise and terror and hurries towards the dead bodies of the mites, grabbing one of their knives.

---

The chasm is only 20 feet deep and Roksana and Jacobus have already climbed down 15 feet, which places them at a distance of 5 feet from the ground below. Jacobus and Roksana are adjacent. The giant centipede is advancing right towards them. Currently, the creature is 10 feet away from Jacobus and 15 feet away from Roksana.

Kryolani is able to hit the long creature with his acid splash, and just a moment after the creature gets hit by Jacobus mace again! The hit is so strong that almost breaks the creature’s carapace, but still the giant thing survives. Roksana finishes the job quickly though: with a powerful swing of her warhammer, the half-orc manages to smash the creature’s worm-like head in a triumph of red ichor spraying around and on Roksana’s and Jacobus’s clothes and armors.

---

Combat is over!

---

With the beast defeated, Kryolani, Serolt and Mik-Mek soon climb down the chasm and then, along with their companions, climb up the chasm in order to reach the other side. As always, the first one to attempt the climb is Roksana, who easily manages to take advantage of the handholds and climbs her way to the other side of chasm.

Rows of wooden pegs line the earthen walls, some hung with tiny, filthy cloaks. In the center of the room stands a rickety table held together with twine, covered with a filthy redchecked tablecloth and heaped with mounds of dirt and twigs and gravel, apparently arranged to form some sort of map. Sitting at the edge of the map, weighing down a scrap of paper, is a bloodstained ivory statuette of what looks like a crouching reptilian devil. A bulging burlap sack sits under the table.

A mite with a particularly large gap between his teeth and a particularly unsightly scattering of pimples decorating his face and tongue stands near the table, mounted on a stocky tunnel tick the size of a bugbear named Tickleback. Along with him there are 6 more mites, and it seems like they’ve been waiting for you. As Roksana steps in this cave, she’s targeted with tiny darts thrown by the furious mites. Two of these darts actually hit the half-orc cavalier, causing only superficial wounds though*.

Putting the skin and bow away, he carefully starts climbing over the chasm when the new mites show themselves. He climbs across the rest of the way and draws his bow.

If Roksana moves up, I move into Rok’s spot. If she does not, Serolt is hanging over the chasm waiting. In that case he'll ready an action to climb back to the other side if any mites appear or if the kobold attacks him for some reason. :)

Normally I can draw my weapon as I move (BAB 1) however climbing requires two hands so I think I’m stuck drawing my bow when i get to the other side. Two moves. No shooting. :(

ROUND 1
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔

Roksana’s swing is inaccurate, and due to the low ceiling, she’s forced to strike without her usual accuracy. The mite avoids her swing, amidst the shrieking screams of its little blue fellows.

Serolt, who’s still at the bottom of the chasm, hears the noise of fight coming from above and tries climbing up the chasm as fast as possible, in order to help his ally before it’s too late. The Shoanti archer had already prepared for the climb and had stowed his bow on his back already. Looking up, he begins his climb. Quick as a dwarven miner, Serolt climbs up the wall taking advance of the numerous hanging roots and manages to get in position behind Roksana, ready to draw his bow and attack as soon as possible.

Kryolani was already climbing up the chasm, but he had just begun his climb when he heard the sounds of battle coming from above. As a consequence, the noble man tries to climb up as quickly as possible, although his body is anything but athletic. Fortunately, the climb is not that hard if one understands how to use the hanging roots as handholds. In a matter of seconds, Kryolani emerges on the edge of the shaft and quickly positions himself at Roksana’s side with a single step, unleashing a cone of magic flames from his right hand right after. The mites caught in the flames begins moaning pathetically as the fire devours them. Unfortunately, two of the mites caught in the area of flames manage to jump away just at the last second. Their blue skin gets burned and turns in a strange, darker hue, but the two are still standing, although critically wounded. One of the three has been completely devoured by Kryolani’s flames though, and its dead and burned body lies still on the ground.

It’s now Jacobus’ turn to attempt the climb. As Kryolani, the Brevic man had already begun climbing up the wall, but he was forced to stow his mace in the process, in order to have two free hands for the climb. Very unfortunately, as he climbs up, Jacobus clings to a false knot, maybe a trap from the mites to slow down the enemies. The fact remains that Jacobus loses his hold on the root. The rigged knot tears loose, but thankfully Jacobus is able to grab another hanging root and avoids falling down. Once the danger is passed, Jacobus stubbornly tries to climb up again, but he runs into a false knot again. This time, the Abadaran is not so quick to react and can’t avoid falling down the chasm: the inquisitor hits his head against the solid ground below and must begin his climb from the beginning*.

---

One of the mites squeezes to his right to allow for his captain to join the fight and engage their foes in melee. The mounted mite does little more than riding his mount, but it’s the mount itself the real threat. The strange, giant tick moves forward and tries to bite Kryolani, who’s guilty of having burned down several mites in a single strike. The giant tick bite is quick and powerful, and horribly delves in Kryolani’s throat, causing the Brevic noble man a deep and bleeding wound**. Then, the captain’s mount also tries to grab Kryolani, but even though he’s staggered and shocked, the sorcerer somehow manages to avoid being grappled.

One of the mites, the one who has squeezed to allow for the giant tick to move closer and attack, now tries to steal the glory of the kill by piercing Kryolani’s belly with his small dagger. Quite surprisingly, the little blue creature succeeds and his hit is enough to knock Kryolani down, bleeding and unconscious***. As a sort of retaliation, the mites falls unconscious and dying just after hitting Kryolani, due to his effort.

A similar fate awaits another mite, who manages to hit Roksana **** with his knife before collapsing to the ground, unconscious. The other mite in front of the half-orc similarly tries to pierce Roksana’s belly with his knife, but his miserable attempt fails.

The two mites in the back starts cursing at Roksana in their unintelligible language, targeting her with the same fear effect as before*****.

---

Mik-Mek slowly attempts to climb as well, but the kobold is very wary due to the accident previously occurred to Jacobus, and takes its time as he tries to climb up. The black-scaled kobold manages to avoid all of the false knots as he climbs up, but he moves only 10 feet upwards.

Roksana aims for the mounted mite, but her swing is inaccurate once again, and the mite easily dodges the strike.

Serolt successfully heals Kryolani and wades in the fray with his scimitar.

Kryolani manages to cast his spell although being prone and hindered by Serolt, who’s just above him. The sorcerer succeeds in a very difficult challenge, that of casting his spell without allowing the giant tick to attack him as he does so. A cone of flame spreads from his palms and invests both the giant tick and its rider. Both manage to jump away just at the right time and avoid being consumed by Kryolani’s flame, although they both get burned nonetheless.

---

The giant tick tries to bite Roksana, as commanded by its mite rider. Fortunately, the half-orc interposes her warhammer between herself and the monstrous tick, fending off its attack.

The mite in front of Roksana attacks her again with her knife, but its efforts is useless as the half-orc pushes the blue creature away with a kick before she could even hurt her.

The two mites in the back start to shriek and shout desperately as they continue spitting curses against Roksana*.

Roksana holds up honorably against the relentless mental assault, even as she nears the limits of her physical endurance, but a crack in her mental armor allows the mites foul curses through and she starts to shake where she stands. "RUN!" She cries as she turns away from her foes, withdrawing from battle without even a second thought to her companions as the magical fear takes over her every thought.

With Roksana fleeing, and the disadvantageous terrain, Kryolani scrambles to his feet and then down into the chasm as rapidly as possible. They can take these guys, but not all at once. Still, depriving them of the giant centipede minion was a good day's work, if they can survive disengaging.

As he moves, he draws the wand of Burning Hands from it's sheath. It's nearly drained, but still more effective than tossing globs of acid, especially if the mites get bunched up trying to chase them.

He then touched the half-orc and blessed her in the name of Abadar.

"C'mon, let's get out of here!"

ROUND 4

Roksana partially climbs down the chasm, and she’s now at a 5 feet distance from the ground, quickly followed by Serolt and Kryolani. The Brevic noble man grabs Serolt’s belt and the two try to climb down the chasm together, Kryolani on the Shoanti archer’s back, as the latter desperately tries to climb down the chasm without falling. Although weighed down by Kryolani, Serolt heroically manages to climb down the walls, using the hanging roots as makeshift handholds. Fortunately, Jacobus has already broken all the false knots on this wall. The two don’t go far though: it’s a hard task to climb down with Kryolani on his back for Serolt already, and he can’t climb down more than 10 feet.

Jacobus, in the meantime, draws his wand of cure light wounds and heals Roksana while the half-orc is still struggling to climb down the wall.

---

As they see you fall back, the mites start to exult loudly, spitting insults and curses at you as you flee. One of them is bold enough to move to the edge of the chasm, determined to throw a dart at you as you try to climb down. However, as soon as he spots Mik-Mek climbing the opposite wall of the chasm, addresses his dart at the kobold, screaming nastily.

---

Mik-Mek is hit in the back as he climbs up the chasm and screams whiningly, but the kobold is able to reach the edge of the chasm nonetheless.
