Again, D'lack uses his heritage to attack Bellu and flanks with Thorn

thorn grunts from the hit. He looks about for back up, knowing that a couple more of those and it's lights out. He tries to end the fight quickly (going for the flank with D'Lack and concentrating on one sword.

The combination of excellent attacks has brought Bellu down. In fact, Thorn's attack hit an already unconscious Bellu, but I believe that is to your advantage.
Round 2 (bold may act):
Vimar (blessed)
Bellu/Blue (29 dmg), Lura/Red (invisible)
D'lack (blessed), Wyatt (blessed), Kyra (blessed), Taidus (blessed), Thorn (blessed)

Kyra moves to Thorn and heal his wounds.

Vimar Slipquick |
"She just disappeared. I think we'd better search here quickly and see if we can find that medicine. She might be trying to get help."
We might still be in initiative so just consider that a free action to speak for now.
GM Fuzzfoot |
I forgot you had grappled Bellu. That would prevent the 5' step, although she was still able to attack Thorn without moving. However, the -2 penalty for fighting while grappled would have made the attack miss, so no damage to Thorn. This would mean that Kyra need not use the spell.
That being said, I am going to call this combat over. The scenario says that Lura fights to the death, but as she is invisible and you seem to have no way to detect her, and that she is basically out of tricks now. I would think she should dismiss her practically dead eidolon and slink away. Being defeated in front of a crowd in Bloodcove pretty much ensures she will not show her face again.
Thorn the Savvy |
totally understandable.... still want her dead.

Vimar Slipquick |
While Thorn tries to spot Lura, Vimar concentrates on trying to find the medicine. He searches the eidolon's things and looks for evidence of a back room or upstairs area that we might be able to search.

D'Lack turns to the crowd and said
Tell us where Lura's stash is ! We are know the Pit's champions !

Gambling winnings change hands as the crowd gets quieter. Then D'lack makes his speech, and the place goes NUTS! People run everywhere, some loot the til, others grab free drinks, one pair of guys starts to carry away a table. Most just run out the doors, however.
As the last few stragglers leave, you see only the bartender remains of the staff.
"Um, ok, I guess Weigo big boss now. Weigo makes nice, no trouble for youse. You wants a share of the night's take? To show no hard feelings?"
In fact, you expect he is pretty happy you have won the battle, as this seems to have promoted him. He offers a round of drinks to celebrate.
You also are keenly aware that this event is likely not to go unnoticed, so your cover may be in danger - especially since D'lack has failed every roll to stay under the radar so far... :)
Wyatt, meanwhile, is exploring and finds a locked, sturdy wooden cabinet behind the bar. It is filled with narcotics, top-shelf liquors, and the medicine you seek.
Thorn the Savvy |
"Dammit. We've got the stuff, let's get the hell out of here. When I say here, I mean Bloodcove. The sooner the better. Let's get the medicine over."
Vimar Slipquick |
"Agreed. Let's get moving." Once we have the medicine and other things from the stash, Vimar re-assumes his scholarly mien to head back to Senzer.
Diplomacy to pass as scholar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
To Senzer then to the caravan, correct?
D'lack Firestar |
D'lack was very convincing at not being a Sage :P
D'Lack agreed with his comrades. He was time to get out the town.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 to pass for a scholar
I'm happy that we find the medecine. Let's give it to Senzer and get away from this town.

GM Fuzzfoot |
Yeah! D'lack passed one! Still need checks for Kyra, Taidus, and Thorn.
You return to the apothecary shop, and give Senzer the medicine. He is very grateful and immediately gives it to his son, which then has a very fast recovery!
"OK, Pathfinders, I am grateful, but now you need to get us out of town. We won't be safe here any longer." They pack up a few belongings, and join you in getting the caravan organized.
You all feel safer as you leave Bloodcove, happy to finally be able to move towards your goal. But the journey itself is not entirely pleasant. If anything, the blistering heat of the Garund plains grows more intense away from the coast. The trade routes cut through winding switchbacks, avoiding the marshiest ground and occasionally crossing a shallow river gorge.
As the caravan crests a hill on the edge of a large river gorge, sudden activity silences the ambient jungle noise. Armed guards pile out of the foliage. An ebon-skinned woman strides out alongside them, brushing back her tresses and grinning from ear to ear. “Let’s not mince words, Pathfinders. Give me the key you carry, and I shall let you continue on your way. Refuse, and my men will toss you in the river and you can swim to your destination.”
Thorn the Savvy |
"Sure it's right here. We don't want trouble."
Thorn is going to instead go for a dagger and deliver it to her face...

GM Fuzzfoot |
OK, that conversation went south quick.
D'lack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Kyra: 1d20 ⇒ 7

Before anyone gets a chance to speak, Thorn launches a dagger right into the witch's chest. She tries to start casting the spell on a scroll she was hiding, but moments later an arrow from Wyatt's bow strikes her in the other side of her chest, and she flies backwards and hits the ground, apparently dead.
The armed guards look at you, at the which, and at each other, and then simultaneously turn and flee. Taidus chases them with a few flying shuriken, but there is no need. You won't see them again soon.
You approach the witch, and she opens her eyes slowly and grins. “Travel safely, Pathfinders, but travel swiftly,” she says. “I’m far from the only Consortium vulture looking to pick your bones today.” She looks toward the road back to Bloodcove, where in the distance birds and chattering monkeys scatter from the canopy as if frightened by a large force moving in this direction and, at best, two hours away.
With that, she expires.
To be continued... (Part 2 trailer)
You are all weary and mere hours ahead of the Aspis Consortium’s own force sent to overtake you on their way to the Azlant Ridge excavation. Combat against such odds all but guarantees death, and the only tentative safety available lies inside the protective walls of the fortified expedition camp 2 days’ journey away.
Quickest end encounter I have ever seen. And this ends Part 1! Congratulations - Chronicles will be out shortly.
Please make sure your details at in the discussion tab, and please note if you are in or out for Part 2, which I will start shortly if we have a full team.

Thorn the Savvy |
So close! Grats Wyatt, and thank you very much GM! Thorn will be level 3 after this (I have a GM chronicle to apply.) I'll be super quick to level up, so count me in as ready for Part II. Will you keep the same thread or start a new one?
GM Fuzzfoot |
Usually I start a new thread, but if we have everyone, I'll just keep this one going.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Is everyone ready for Part 2?
You are several days northwest of Bloodcove—days of dusty, dirty running and riding as your caravan guide, the scoundrel Raimondo Scevola, whipped his horses and wagon-drivers to go faster, faster! Closing in behind you, no more than an hour by horse now, ride dozens of Aspis mercenaries. Your activities in Bloodcove, it seems, were not as secret as you hoped.
So, we are playing Tier 1-2, regardless of Krya being 1st or 4th it seems. Kyra, you should determine by your first post if you want to move up to 4th or not. The fact that you all did so well in hiding through Bloodcove does give you significant advantage in this part!
A sudden cry goes up among the wagons, and all eyes look back the way you came. The days-old familiar sight of pursuing horseman has vanished. “They’ve given up the chase!” Raimondo declares and a tired cheer erupts from his caravan.
They settle down, and you move up to a small clearing to rest and chat away from the caravan. Suddenly, you hear horses galloping, closing in on you from two directions.

Aspis: Red/Captain, Green Archer, Blue Archer, Purple Archer
And you got very lucky on initiative!
Thorn the Savvy |
Using his fancy new shortbow, Thorn unleashes ab arrow at the sloest rider (purple)
I'm guessing during the surprise round they're NOT within 30' so no sneak attack.

Vimar Slipquick |
Once Thorn's arrows have flown, Vimar bolts from the pack, hoping to quickly end the threat from the rear. His quick movement catches the rider by surprise and planting himself in the middle of the path, he thrusts up with his longspear, skewering the purple rider through his chest. He gets ready for the second rider to come at him.
Longspear: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Confirm: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1d8 + 3 + 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (1) + 3 + (1) + 3 = 15
AoO if the Blue Rider closes: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
GM Fuzzfoot |
Thorn's first arrow knocks the purple rider from his saddle, putting him out of the fight. Wyatt launches an arrow at the leader (red), but misses.
Thorn's second arrow likewise kills the blue archer. The rear now seems clear.
@Vimar - you may redetermine your course of action for round 1, since both rear targets are gone.
Surprise Round - 1 standard action:
Taidus
Round 1 (bold may act):
Thorn, Wyatt, Taidus, D'lack, Vimar, Kyra
Aspis: Red/Captain, Green Archer, Blue Archer, Purple Archer
Taidus Raine |
Taidus will hold on both counts as going into the fray without help would be stupid.
Surprise: grab shuriken x2
Round 1: readied action to flurry should enemy get within 10'
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 191d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
1d2 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
D'lack Firestar |
With his heavycrossbow, D'lack target the leader waiting to be in close range to shoot.
Heavycrossbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 5 + 1 = 17
Damages: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
GM Fuzzfoot |
I see Vimar has moved on the map, and so I may be ninja'ing his post here, but in the interest of moving forward... This is a bit confusing with the charge and flatfootedness (or not) based on the readied actions, but we'll give it a go.
Wyatt lets another arrow fly that the leader ignores, as it zooms past his head. He lowers his lance and charges at Vimar.
Taidus readies his small projectiles, and as the horse closes, he throws them at the charging rider. One clanks off his armor, while the other finds flesh in his arm.
D'lack, also ready for the charge, let's loose with his bolt, and thanks to the charging attack, lands it in his shoulder.
Vimar, having moved into position with his longspear, sees the charge coming and braces for it. (using the rolls from above)
The lancer charges, and Vimar stabs him in the chest as he closes For 19 points!.
Double Damage addition: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The leader is unseated from his horse, and essentially dead.
The remaining archer, seeing this unfold, turns his horse around and flees.
Out of combat!
Vimar Slipquick |
That is exactly what I was going for GM Fuzzfoot! My post from the train got gobbled up :(
Vimar turns back to the rest of the party and wipes the blood off on a wide leaf. "Hopefully that will get the rest of them to come at us more cautiously. We'd better make haste though. It looked like there were more coming."
Probably should check them quick for anything useful and then move on.
.Pregen/3. |
@GM Fuzzfoot: as you said that the tier still 1-2, here I am with Kyra at 4th!
Kyra didn't react to the Aspis' mercenaries assault. For her luck, her comrades were fast in solve the problem.
"Are you ok? Does anybody wounded?", the cleric offers her help to anyone that's been hurt.
"Let's see if they carry any useful thing..."
