Haska O'Wydroe |
Haska moves back down the sewer to escape the smell and hopefully recover more quickly. Is the stink cloud something visible? Could you mark its extent? How does this cloud thing work? Is it just a round to round save and you can attack if you make the save or are the effects lasting rounds and we just suck now?
spellcrft stinking cloud effects: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Shlevin |
Getting sick once again, Shlevin has no choice but to move out of the clouds presence.
Spellcraft to identify: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
GM Fuzzfoot |
Spellcraft result: The way that the stinking cloud works is that you make a Fort save each round that you are in it until you fail, at which point you are just nauseated, which lasts while you are in it plus 1d4+1 rounds. Since it pretty much filled the first room, the only way out was forward or back out to the sewers.
@Shlevin - because you failed the save, you could not have thrown the second coin, so you still have it.
The green dretch falls from the attacks by Sumil and Lady Finley.
Haska O'Wydroe |
Hopefully last dumb question...can you defeat a stink cloud by holding your breath? I think you can hold your breath for several rounds without difficulty. Just wondering if this is a legitimate approach to the stinking problem.
"Once...ahrugh... you are out of the stink the sickening feeling will pass in a few moments, but while in the cloud you will always be susceptible to becoming sick." Haska fights through his sickness to let those in hearing distance know about the clouds effects.
GM Fuzzfoot |
I had to research that, but it seems no - holding your breath won't do it for you here.
Blue steps into view as the cloud begins to fade away. He attacks Sumil, one of the few still standing from the stench.

Still withstanding the smell as he cuts down the dretches, Sumil tries to finish off the final beast.

Haska O'Wydroe |
Haska though still ill will move into the room if the cloud has cleared enough for it to be safe. Else he will pull out his wand of cure light wounds. Haska's intent is to get near Sumil and heal him as conditions and movement allow.
"Hold on, friends. We are almost clear. We are coming back."
Shlevin |
Shlevin isn't doing anything until he isn't nauseated anymore.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Sumil manages to slice the dretch deep in the neck, ending the threat for good.
A few rounds later, everyone is able to regain control of their stomachs, and look around the place again.
Sumil |
Sumil falls back after the final dretch dies, he's bloody, scratched and bitten all over. His beggar disguise is tattered and slick, he looks every bit a half dead Beggar Knight.
"I think, my friend, that I could use some healing from that wand I lent you, yes?" He says from his spot on the floor.
Once he's healed back up he'll move to pick up the journal he had started to read before the attack.
GM Fuzzfoot |
Go ahead and save your charges - that was the last encounter, so Sumil will heal up just fine during the downtime.
As you read, you find that it is the personal journal of Relios, who it turns out is Gandros' father. It details the goings on of many of his wealthy clients, as well as Relios’s personal life including the details of his ancestry and his son’s birth. One of the last ledgers mentions that Relios was falling on hard times and intended to sell his wayfinder back to the Pathfinder Society. The ledgers also show that Relios was selling a steady stream of yellowcap mushrooms to members of the pre-revolution high society in Augustana.
The next rooms are vaults lined with shelves thick with growing yellowcap mushrooms.
More faerie effigies hide among the mushrooms, and on the very back wall, Gandros has painted a portal, a large circle of swirling color patterns. On the floor lies an open and empty scroll case next to a slightly charred, blank piece of parchment.
The following items are mixed among the wreckage of the vaults: brooch of shielding (30 charges), potion of enlarge person, screaming bolt, wand of shocking grasp (50 charges), and a gold necklace worth 300 gp.
With the information you have found, and the threat of demon invasions "stopped", you can now return topside to report your findings to Venture-Captain Wallace.
Haska O'Wydroe |
I was not sure an alchemist could use a wand of cure light wands. It is on the spell list or extract list. Here it goes.
Cure light wounds wand charge 1: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Cure light wounds wand charge 2: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
"That was a very heroic stand, Sumil. I am truly sorry for my actions or more appropriately my lack of actions to help you."
Oops, I must have crossed posts with the GM. forget I tried the heal Sumil.
spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
knowledge(nature): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
"This parchment must have been a scroll to summon the Dretches." "Well this must have been this started." "Shlevin, you want to take a look at the mushrooms." "I can't make heads or tails of them."
Sumil |
"This...this is unfortunate." Sumil says with a frown as he flits through various pages of the journal.
"Our Prince seems to have been nothing but a beggar, the son of a man who lost it all. He has lived down here among the filth and sewage believing he was a Prince."
He hands off the journal and looks at the parchment that Haska identified, confirming the alchemists suspicions.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
"Curious, no? That a beggar in the sewers managed to summon demons. Gandros might need to be supervised, to make sure that this does not happen again, I think." Sumil folds up the old parchment and prepares to bring it back to the Society along with the rest of their findings.
"We should tell go make our report." He says solemnly, more than a little disturbed about the truth of this whole matter.
That's an awfully depressing ending.
Lady Finley |
"The poor man. I'm suspicious that these mushrooms have something to do with his delusions. I don't know much about them. It just makes sense." Lady Finley says.
Very depressing.
Giovanni Stellaluce |
Still dabbing his mouth with a handkerchief, Giovanni looks over the books for anything else of interest.
Right behind you, Sumil. The sooner to a bath, the better. It's been a demon of a day.
Shlevin |
"These mushrooms definitely had something to do with the Prince's story. It's unfortunate there wasn't any truth behind it. Maybe it's best we lie to him so he's not too embarrassed. I suppose he will want to see the journal though." Shlevin says this as he contemplates the best course of action to save the feelings of the crazed man, wanting no more harm to come to his pride.
"I'm afraid I have no clue Haska, but I'll be taking a few handfuls of these home with me... for research of course." He pulls out his pouch and fills it with the interesting mushrooms.
Knowledge (Nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Haska O'Wydroe |
"There is really not much else to do or say here." "Let's go home."
Haska helps everyone pack and transport items and paperwork back to the lodge.
