Herman gladly leaves the smelly fungus areas, his little tummy still lurching from the stench.

"For once I agree with Gorum. Let's move out."

You make your way back through the unwholesome fungi-choked hallway, where once again mats of slimy material squish under and - perhaps a little to animatedly - suck at your feet, and tendrils hanging from the ceiling are wet and cloying about your arms and faces as you push your way through. Oz leaves you at the relative sanity of the temple to Torag, and vows to guard the nearly-helpless victims.

You round the corner, taking the southern hallway only peeked at before, and it is just as choked, and you make your way slowly and careful around the largest growths.

After passing through a curtain of sticky yellow filaments, you suddenly hear you what appears to be a crazed, cackling argument in a strange and terrifying tongue.

Glowing fungi bathe the chamber in dim blue light, revealing dozens of incomprehensible devices and texts heaped atop tables and shelves. Half torture chamber, half alchemical laboratory, one table holds the dissected remains of a mountain goat, surrounded by parchments. Strange wires project from the goat’s remains, connected to odd-looking metallic boxes.

Behind the low table are two strange-looking humanoids with bulging white eyes, wild hair, and four-fingered hands. They are recognizable as the derro Jani warned you about. The appear to have odd crossbows on their belts. Stopping their argument, they both turn towards you and curse in broken Common, "Heh! You die interrupters experiments! Heh!"

A third creature looks like a bestial version of Wuliem a savage human, with green-gray skin and greasy black hair. It responds to its masters' anger with a toothy roar and a raised falchion!
It's an orc.

Conditions: The creatures are just outside of Hagan or Storn's torch range, so they are in Dim light (20% miss chance from concealment) without Low-light or Darkvision. The whole area is also Difficult Terrain, so double movement and no 5' steps.

R1: Jani, *T, Turan, Storn, *O, Hagan, Torvic, *S, Herman, Wuliem
Jani is up and can see the AF11 Derro (cover, however) and a little of the Orc.

Looks like I'm first!

"You shall be enlarged, friend Storn," whispers Jani, and begins the process of casting.

One of the derro twins says something about "Tnarat laugh at #%$^@&@...", ending with what sounds like a horrible curse, although the exact language is unknown, before instantly plunging a large section of the room into darkness. The light from your torches, magical and mundane, seems to hit this curtain of darkness and disappear to no effect.

The shaded area within the black border is Darkness.

The yellow-haloed icons are their last known positions for the folks without darkvision; the actual happenings are in the "Darkvision" spoiler below.

Someone with Darkvision can describe where something or someone is located using a Standard Action (a precedent I think I will follow).

The floor is Difficult Terrain already. Within the Darkness (without Darkvision), you are essentially Blinded: 50% miss chance, -2 to AC, lose Dex bonus, DC 10 Acrobatics to move greater than half speed. (I would think that this would mean 4 squares of movement become 1, if you are moving safely.)

This is going to be a troublesome combat to do, I can tell. I don't mind feedback about how others do Blindness/Invisibility/Total Concealment.

Darkvision:

Derro T at AE9 - readies a repeating light crossbow.
Derro S at AF11
Orc at AF12

"If you are not a derro, please let me know when I'm decapitating you! Jani, still casting that spell?"

While Storn delays and Turan assumes a defensive posture, something happens in the darkness... and the darkness grows again!

Darkvision:

Actually, nothing much.
Derro T at AE9 - readied a repeating light crossbow.
Derro S at AF11- readied a repeating light crossbow.
Orc at AF12 - doesn't seem to do anything

Torvic furiously shouts, "You! I remember you!" and runs, sloggingly, towards the darkness.

Jani finishes casting the spell, and Storn grows even larger. "Anyone have a Daylight spell? No? Ah well." Jani flexes their arm and a wand springs from a loaded wrist sheath. So with 'careful' movement, Storn doubles moves... two whole squares.

Storn, you can still move 4, since you aren't currently blinded. I moved you straight down, which looks to give some cover from the derro on the way. (I was looking through the scenario, but it does seem that all of the hallways and areas with the big growths are difficult terrain. Had my AC with mage armor at 20, it's actually 19 because the Haramaki no longer gives a bonus. But yes Jani is pointing out where the baddies are. It'll still be hard to hit them without darkvision -- hence the suggestion that Wuliem, who has it, start peppering them with bombs. Or would that be assaulting them?

Yeah, that was the scenario's idea to have him go in... Rage overtaking his sleep-deprived common sense, it seems. He doesn't even have armor, and would be better directing others or something.

Hagan, Good point. It is kind of unclear about short Diplomacies, or whether the even exist, unlike with Intimidate. But, I was thinking that a few 'diplomatic' words could be a free action, like regular speech.

(Perhaps Wuliem's intense, analytical mind was too occupied formulating the positions of the enemy in a strange code than concentrating on a good throw of the bomb.)

I always do High is Good, since that makes the most sense to me, high rolls normally being the ones that hit.

Turns out it is unnecessary, though, since the roll itself misses when considering cover: "When making a melee attack against an adjacent target, your target has cover if any line from any corner of your square to the target's square goes through a wall (including a low wall)." So, since you and the derro are the same distance from the wall, it has cover.

Sorry! I failed to read where I was on my initiative. I'm good now!

Fortitude: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Storn's eyes go wide at the injury and he bellows something incoherent. He swings his table-sized sword down at where he hopes the derro is.

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Damage: 3d6 + 4 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) + 4 = 16
Miss Chance, 1 Misses: 1d2 ⇒ 2

No problem. :)

Storn hears a thwack, numerous crunches and snaps, and then the sound of steel striking mush and stone.

"Ye got him!" Torvic adds, a little unnecessarily.

His ears attuned to fine sounds in pitch and tone, Herman screams in pain as the thunderstone stuns him. He drops the crossbow, and covers his ears, his eyes watering with the pain.

He looks around in shock as he world becomes soundless and fails to hear the satisfying crunch from Storn's smashing of the derro.

"BAAHA-ow-HAHAHAH-ooh-AAA! DESTROY EVERYTHING!" Storn woozily tries to keep his balance, blood pouring from the wound in his neck and his bell clearly rung by the explosion.

Torvic: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 181d8 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5
Fort save, DC 14: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 1 = 201d2 ⇒ 1

Rage tempered by his dwindling strength, Torvic finally sinks his battleaxe into the derro, and the rush of righteous satisfaction helps him fight off the insidious poison.

Wuliem's confidence seems to be waning with every errant toss.

He seems to be preparing a vicious toss at any remaining enemy!

Is there still one up? If so please toss a frost bomb at him!

I think that this would have been easier if I remembered to drink my mutagen!
Next time perhaps!

Although, I am playing him absent-minded, I actually forgot myself!
