Silver Crusade

You've all been summoned to the office of Venture-Captain Ambrus Valsin in the Pathfinder Grand Lodge in Absalom. When you arrive, Valsin is busy lecturing another group of Pathfinders, leaving the group of you to wait outside his office for a few minutes. This would be a good time to introduce yourselves and get to know each other.

Dazai arrives at Venture-Captain Valsin's office with his head freshly shaved and beard neatly trimmed. His armor and tabard are clean and detailed, helm cradled in the crook of his arm. The Tien-Dtang man greets the secretary pleasantly, "I am here to meet with Venture-Captain Valsin, please."

He paces the room slowly when told to wait. Other than a practical dagger at his belt, he is unarmed.

Orin slips into the office. "Am I in the right place? where is everyone? I thought there'd be more folks here..." he spots Osamu and nods... "Hello, are you here for the briefing as well? I'm Orin and pleased to meet you and all that fol-de-rol... I am indeed pleased, but it seems silly to have to say it."

Before you stands a being with rock-like skin and the features of a dwarf though he stands man-tall. His scale mail, steel shield, and the sickle at his belt, crossbow on his back are clear indicators that he's ready for a fight, should there be one. The symbol of Yuelral on his shield is perhaps the clearest indication that he's not a dwarf... for what self-respecting dwarf would worship an Elven deity.

A roughshod but neat-looking tengu strides in, dressed in simple robes and a chain shirt. The rebus of Irori hangs on a chain around his neck, and he carries a bulging backpack on one shoulder. "Looks as if I'm not late, if the VC is busy chewing out other recruits...How do you all do? I am Davor, holy hand of Irori and aspiring Pathfinder."

Dazai chuckles at the dwarf's pragmatic view of greetings. "I am. Osamu Dazi. I too am pleased to meet you," he says with a smile, the moon-shaped birthmark on his right cheek wrinkling slightly. "I was told that the Venture-Captain was delayed in his lecture but should be here shortly."

The Tian-Dtang tilts his head to the side slightly. "If it is rude of me to ask, please say, but what sort of man are you? You seem elemental."

It suddenly dawns on those present that there is a draft in the room, despite its solid construction. It is the closest thing to footsteps announcing the arrival of a handsome young man in light leather armor, whose Keleshite features sorely mismatch the incredible pallor of his skin and hair. Silver Crusade

Good timing. I'm ready to start just as everybody's checked in.

After a few minutes of waiting, Valsin dismisses the previous group of Pathfinders he was working with, who look none to happy. He then ushers you into his office.

“All right, Pathfinders! Listen up. I know you are new recruits eager to make names for yourselves in the organization, but first we need to make sure you are up to snuff and won’t get yourself killed out there. I have a number of small assignments for you and your team, and it would be best if you could finish them before the day’s end.”

“Every day we get some doe-eyed hopeful or some sniveling bootlicker willing to do anything to join up with the Pathfinders. Most of them are good kids, but not all of them have the salt to make it in a world like this. It’s rough out there and I’m not just talking about the ruins, tombs, and wilderness Pathfinders find themselves in on missions. We’ve got people who look down their noses at us, folks who think we squander our resources, and agents who want to take everything we have collected. This wealth of knowledge and these items of lore make us the most powerful organization on the planet. That said, since we are fractured and widespread, it’s difficult for that power to light on anything for too long. For every friend of the Society, there are two enemies.”

“Your first mission, to test your mettle and loyalties, sends you to meet a few people important to the Society living here in Absalom. These are other venture-captains or close allies of our organization, so follow their orders as you would mine. I’ve prepared a list of things I want you to do. They’re not arranged in any particular order of importance, but I want them all completed as quickly as possible. Only report to me once you complete them all. Included in the envelope you hold in your hands is the list, complete with the name of your contact, and directions to the meeting location.”

Silver Crusade

Arriving at Zarta Dralneen’s townhouse in the Ivy District—one of several homes the noblewoman keeps around Absalom—the PCs come upon a magnificent gothic structure three stories in height. The ebon lacquered double doors wrought with gleaming silver fixtures greet the characters, a prickly brass cone hanging from a chain serving as the door chime. Moments after ringing it, a servant in loose casual attire opens the door, greeting the Pathfinders as if expected.

Led through well-appointed sitting rooms, ballrooms, and a grand stairway granting a view of an elaborate study, the PCs finally arrive on the third floor of the house, at the door of Zarta’s personal study, which lies beyond her bedroom. Knocking upon the door and announcing his presence, the servant opens the darkly stained wooden door.

A large intricate carpet dominates the marble floor in this sitting room. A chaise sits along the north wall and a desk spans the southeast corner, its chair positioned with its back to the southwest corner of the room. Three comfortable chairs are positioned around a small, low circular table.

Sitting in the chair behind the desk, Zarta Dralneen regards the PCs with a wry smile, putting away a few papers before standing to address the hopeful Pathfinders.

“Aldor, you are dismissed. Close the door behind you and attend to your other tasks.”

She then turns her attention to the group. “It’s always so incredibly adorable when I see a fresh faced batch of Pathfinders. I mean, look at you scrumptious little teacakes. I could eat each and every one of you up. Well, maybe not you.” Zarta points at Orin.

“I assume this isn’t a pleasure visit since most of you are terribly overdressed for that manner of occasion, so that must mean you are here for that trinket Valsin has been nagging me about. Seems I can’t get that man around these parts anymore,” she gestures, sliding her hand down her body and widening the gesture to sweep out and across the room as if her home were a secondary thought. “On the good side, he always sends me all the precious new recruits.”

“Many think those of us from Cheliax serve and worship devils, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, we use the creatures for their power. They serve us and we sculpt their power in our own interests. It’s my experience in controlling dark powers that led to the Pathfinder Society putting me in charge of the Dark Archive. We collect, safeguard, and study some of the more powerful and dangerous items that the Society’s agents collect on their missions.”

As the paracountess talks, a cacophony of booms and crashes sounds from beyond the room’s west door. She sometimes pauses at an extended eruption of these noises before continuing with the conversation.

“As you can hear”, Zarta gestures to the door, “A servant is greatly misbehaving. You’re going to have to deal with it in order to get the trinket.” She opens a drawer in her desk, drawing out an exquisite silver letter opener shaped like a dagger (treat as a masterwork silver dagger). “You might need this to get it to submit,” she offers with a sly grin.

Picture added to “pictures and handouts” link, and new “map” link added above, showing the room.

Dazai has difficulty hiding his discomfort with the paracountess' familiar manner. When the first crash occurs, he glances towards the door, startled, but as they continue, he finds relief in the prolonged interruptions as it gives him an excuse to avoid the woman's eyes.

At the destination

Voarima looks around at the opulence before her. She disregards the woman's brashness at the "tea cakes" comment. She listens to the job she wants done. She looks at the finely crafted letter opener, made of polished silver.

Seriously, the society, pits us with a devil worshiper?! This doesn't sound like it's going to be easy, for I have heard that silver harms devils. , her thought weave in and out while the Chelish woman speaks.

She looks at the others, and if nobody wants to take it, she will take the offering, and looks to the others.

Shall we do this, and quick? The need of a silvered letter opener, gives me cause for concern. Yet I do too wonder what "servant", is disobeying you?!

Silver Crusade

Sirius beat you to the silver dagger, Voarima.

At all the questions about her servant, Zarta grins slyly. "Nothing a group of trained Pathfinders can't handle, I'm sure." With that, she gestures to the western door, inviting you to open it and see for yourselves.

Assuming someone opens the door

Zarta’s bedroom is decorated in the colors of Cheliax— ebon black and crimson red. Silk, rare woods, and carefully carved marble compose every bit of furniture in the room. Goose down now litters the room, covering almost every surface and the silken shreds of the cushions that contained it lie about like flayed skin . A post on the massive screened bed is snapped in half, collapsed on the bed and drawing the screened curtains into a ripped slope of formerly fine cloth. Vials of perfume and crystal jars of other cosmetics sit smashed on the marble floor around the dresser. A prominent fixture in the room, a large “X” made of stout wood sits along the west wall, complete with leather shackles and chains. A table sits to its left strewn with various items intended for pleasure, but outwardly resembling implements of pain.

At the far end of the room, you see the creature responsible for the destruction. A devilish, red skinned creature with horns, wings, and a barbed tail beats repeatedly on an iron box, which remains tightly sealed by seven locks. It completely ignores you, continuing to angrily smash the box against any available surface.

Sirius, you technically need a clear path in a straight line to charge an enemy. Since I just randomly put down the "minis" without asking for a marching order, I'll let you have it this time, since you might have been in front. But keep that in mind for the future.

Orin, Lead Blades is a self-only spell, so you can't cast it on an ally's weapon. If you cast it, it'll affect your own attacks. Or I'll let you take a different action.

Chakrams actually do 1d8 damage.

Gunthur steps into the room, but continues to guard the door.

Readied Action: Attack if the imp appears in attack range.

Davor does not seem at all perturbed working with devil-worshippers, nor so when their target disappears. Internally, he fumes for his allotted second before entering a more centered state, racking his brains for anything he might have on such a creature. The tengu enters the room and begins to twirl his sling in preparation.

I would like to know about special attacks and SLAs of the imp.

Readied Sling Attack, it it comes into sight: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Sirius just stands there for a moment. "Ah. Well. Nice trick there, Mr. devilkin. Still," He begins waving the silver letter opener around. "As long as I've got this, you're in troub-OOPS!" He cries as he accidentally flings the dagger out of his hand, across the room, and hopelessly deep into the mess.

Or so it would appear....

Sleight of Hand to make it appear I've lost the dagger when in fact I've hidden it on me, dagger bonus: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24

Silver Crusade

When the imp disappears, Osamu takes a swing at it, but misses. He then runs to block the exit and listen for the sounds of the imp, but the devil is too quiet for him to detect.

Voarima, Gunthur, and Davor prepare to attack the devil if it reappears, while Sirius seems to lose his silver weapon.

Davor recognizes that the devil is an imp (Tiny outsider (devil, evil, extraplanar, lawful)), and knows a couple of other things about it.

Davor:
You know that its main attack is a stinger on its tail, which contains a poison known to harm the balance and reflexes of victims (dex damage).

Spell-Like Abilities:

Davor - Readied sling
Voarima - Readied chakram (I'll let you keep the higher damage roll)

Round 2 (go if bolded):
Orin
Osamu - Move and search
Sirius - Hide dagger

Orin at a loss for what to do next, inscribes a rune on his sickle, making it temporarily masterwork. He will continue scribing for a second round as well, making this last for one full minute. forgemaster's blessing, and his actions for 2 rounds are set then

Gunthur normally uses the horsechopper (reach weapon). With the readied attack, he could end up using a bite if the imp popped up right next to him.

Silver Crusade

The imp reappears within a foot of Sirius, setting off readied attacks from Davor and Voarima. Davor's sling stone goes wide, doing even more damage to Mistress Dralneen's possessions. Orin asking for Yuelral's blessing seems to help, as Voarima's chakram flies true, striking the imp. But it doesn't seem to do as much damage as she expects. I gave you the better damage roll, but it has DR.

attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3

The imp, still carrying the iron box, strikes at Sirius with its tail stinger, cutting his arm.
3 HP damage, and make a fort save vs poison

Bless active

Round 2 (go if bolded)
Orin - Preparing weapon
Osamu - Move and search
Sirius - Hide dagger
Davor - Readied sling (miss)
Voarima - Readied chakram (hits for 3 HP)
Devil (-3 HP) - Appears and attacks Sirius
Gunthur

Round 3 (go if bolded)
Orin - Still preparing weapon
Osamu
Sirius (-3 HP)
Davor
Voarima

Does the imp provoke AOO from Sirius as it has to move be into her square to attack?

She curses slightly as the Chakram seems to glance off the imp's putrid flesh.

Hmmm, this little bugger is gonna be a pain!

She moves forward, drawing shield and sword. She stops next to the Dwarf, and takes a swing at the tiny foe.
