A short while later someone comes along the river from town towards the memorial. It is too dark to see who but you can hear the steps as the person comes close and see a silhouette against the slight reflections of starlight on the water of the river.

He walks up to the statue laughs an evil laugh that sounds like it comes directly form the abyss and starts splashing the memorial with a liquid.

Kendra opened her mouth to speak up, but then hears the abyssal laugh and is startled breathless.

Jorfa sighs and gets up - her bones stiff from the long sitting. Drawing her axe she moves out of the shrubs to face Gibbs "Well old man - what do you think you're doing here."

The old man roars in a shockingly deep and powerful voice, "You shall not prevent our escape! The woman will die again!" Then he attacks Jorfa with a large razor.

"That man seems to be possessed somehow. Father, how can we drive the spirit out?"
Kendra tries to see if the same thing works that has worked so far, and casts her spell.

The shock of the violence of the attack shocks Vauran to such an extent he draws a blank as to a possible cause.

Kendra's ray hits Gibs but to no effect.

"If you want it the hard way, this is going to hurt a lot." Jorfa tells wiping the blood off her face. Taking her axe with two hands she cleaves into Gibs.

Even though he is hit really hard, Gibs doesn't stop. Continuing his rage he cuts at Jorfa.

"Jorfa!" Vauran shouts as she swings at Gibs.
Turning to Gibs he proffers his holy symbol and shouts "IN THE NAME OF PHARASMA, STAND DOWN!" Hold Person DC 17 Will

Kendra isn't keen on murdering someone and so first decides to help Jorfa, tapping her quickly on the shoulder after muttering her spell.

Whatever is posessing Gibbs should now have a harder time hitting Jorfa.

Gibs freezes in place.

Jorfa is not fond of finding out how long this spell holds. But as Gibs isn't moving she uses the flat side of the axe to knock him out.

"Do you have some rope to tie him up before we bring him to the Sheriff?"

I is still not enough to knock Gibs out.

"Yes, I still have the rope we used to lower me down." Kendra says. "First though..." She mutters the same words again, this time touching the immobile Gibs.

Jorfa uses the rope to tie up Gibs' arms thoroughly and also connects his feet to ensure he doesn't run. "Let's bring him to the Sheriff then, before the spell wears off."

"Such a good plan."

Jorfa thinks about dragging him at his feet, but instead shoulders him as long as he is still unable to move. "Onwards then."

Just when Jorfa picks Gibs up he starts to struggle again.

Jorfa puts him down and punches him into the face until he stops with the struggling. Then she picks him up again and continues on her path.

On your way to the sheriff you come past the dead and drained body of Old River the town dog. The Sheriff is not in his office. Only one of the deputies is there telling that Caeller is on patrol in the town somewhere.

Jorfa pushes past the deputy and drops Gibs in a cell. "Lock him up. And stay away. There is something wrong with him."

Shortly thereafter the Sheriff comes back. "So many people at this time? What happened?"

"It appears we've found and apprehended the culprit responsible for defiling the monument." Kendra says, and she gestures at the cells.
"And however much I might dislike mister Hephenus personally, I do believe that in this case, it is not quite his fault. He seemed... possessed by an evil spirit."

The Sheriff takes a closer look into the cells. "Hard to tell in that state. Father, could you do something about him being half dead? I'd like him not to die in my prison cell."

Grimburrow offers his holy symbol and a burst of energy radiates from him

Gibs is almost back to full health and jumps up immediately. Rattling on the bars of his cells he shouts in the deep and powerful voice "You shall not prevent our escape! The woman will die again!"

The Sheriff backs off from the cell "What's that?" he asks wide eyed.

"It's one of the ghosts from Harrowstone." Kendra explains calmly.
"Hean Faramin. Also known as the Splatter man. He has been defiling the monument. We're looking into how we banish him."

"You're going to try to banish that ghost here?" the Sheriff asks.

"Well, for now we just need a place where he can be kept from doing more harm." Kendra says.
"I'm certain your gaol is up to the job, Sheriff."

"I'm sure the bars will withstand that treatment. But if he continues with that all night I won't." the Sheriff replies. "But go and do what has to be done. We'll take care of that here."

"Let's head to the temple. I'm sure there's some books there that can help us, Father."

"Sorry Ma'm, but it is in the middle of the night. If you don't mind, I'm going to bed, now that the job is done." Jorfa replies "See you tomorrow."

With that Jorfa leaves the Sheriff's office and heads to her house and her bed. On the way she grabs Old River, that the kids don't find it the next day.

"Our library would be a good place to start." Vauran says as he steps towards the door

Kendra adresses Sheriff Caeller once more. "We'll be back as soon as we're able, Sheriff. Just make sure you keep this man here, for his own sake as well as ours."

She then turns after Vauran, and lets him escort her to the temple.

Together you walk through the nocturnal city. With all the undead around lately this is no pleasant experience. As you pass through the fields on the western side of the river you are scared stiff as an owl approaches without noise and passes just a few feet of you on it's way to it's prey.

You're glad to be inside again once you reach the temple and prepare for a search in the temple's library and archive. Which gives a bonus of +4 on history, local and religion checks related to Ravengro and the Harrowstone including it's inhabitants

Kendra first picks up the books where she found the information on Hean Faramin before and reads through them again. After that she mostly assists Vauran as she advises him to research how to banish a ghostly possession.

Together they peruse the shelves, referncing and cross referencing what they find in the books.

After much research it seems clear: A ghost that possesses a person is located inside the person. With Vesorianna telling that she keeps the ghosts imprisoned in the Harrowstone and even Gibs acknowledging that the ghosts are after Vesorianna to get out this seems very unlikely that Gibs is possessed by the Splatterman. It seems the Splatterman has some other means of influencing Gibs.

Kendra looks at Vauran. "That explains why nothing worked so far. But I know how he does it."

"All my research into the Splatterman points to him having control over people through their name. That must be how he's controlling Gibs. But one way or the other, he is still in Harrowstone."

Her eyes widen in shock all of a sudden. "Father, can you send one of your acolytes to the sheriff's brig, and tell them to under no circumstances tell the prisoner their name, or give him any writing implements, and to stop him from writing anything if they see him doing that?"

Sheepishly she adds "I would go myself, but I'm nearly falling asleep as it is."

Grimburrow listens to Kendra, and once she is done he quickly shuffles off to send an acolyte as requested

It is still early so the acolyte wonders about being waked. But it is dawn already and so he jumps in his clothes and leaves to tell the Sheriff the news.

When Vauran returns, Kendra is slumped over the table, her head on a book, and fast asleep.

Jominda sleeps in and doesn't wake until the sun is shining brightly through the window already. She wonders that no one showed up to check on her and to get her for the next travel to the Harrowstone. "Did they go without me?"

She feels great again and the creepy holes in her body are gone. So she readies herself, getting into her clothes and equipment, making a slapdash sandwich for the way and leaves the house. First she checks on Jorfa knocking at the forge's door.

Jorfa comes to the door greeting whoever stands before it with a half asleep "Today it stays closed!" squinting into the sun.

"Good morning. I see I'm not the last one. Shall I check on the others while you get ready?" Jominda asks. As Jorfa agrees she moves on to Kendra's house. As no one reacts to her knocking she wonders. But maybe Kendra is out groceries shopping to make some trail rations for their trip to the haunted house.

So finally she moves on to the temple. To her surprise she finds Kendra there. It's a shame there is no possibility to make a quick picture of that and share it with the world. Someone should invent that." she thinks. She pulls the book out from under Kendra. "Are you trying to digest the knowledge externally before taking it in?" Jominda asks wiping the book dry.

Kendra wakes up with a start. "Wh-, father?" she asks bewildered as she tries to make sense of her surroundings

"I haven't seen Father Grimburrow. He must have fallen asleep somewhere else." Jominda replies.
