Bronwenir |
"Hmm, a potion. Ah, moderate curing." Bayani looks at Savarend, and then at his own partially-healed wounds. "I think you have a little more need of this than I, Master Dwarf."
Next time I'll put it in my status line so you know how many images I have.
Justified* |
If we have no other healing in the group, then drink the potion Savarend. There still may be enemies about. Let us complete our search of the house and ground. Justified shoots Moira a disgusted look when she mentions eating a sentient being. He picks up at least one of the hand axes testing its balance. Who wishes to carry one of these?
Graythan Fist |
Graythan's expression remains tight and stoic as the bullywug falls limply to the floor. His eerie eyes sweep over the whole group as Bronwenir regards the curative potion. He nods in agreement with Justified, "You're all pretty cut and bloodied, Bronwenir. I don't think that potion there would be misspent on any of you."
At Moira's question, Graythan turns to Lavinia, "I'm sorry for all this, Lavinia. You and your household don't deserve all this bloodshed." Shaking his head at Justified's offer of one of the axes, Graythan reloads his crossbow and waits for the others to mend their wounds however they may.
Moira Greyshadow |
Moira responds to Justified's questions on who should carry the hand ax. "If no one is going to use it then I suggest we sell it."
Moira grabs a frog leg and begins to drag the body out of the room and outside the house. "I'll help with doing a little clean up. Gotta get rid of these bodies before they start to stink."
GM Fanguar |
"My thanks Graythan, but you owe me no apologies. My brother on the other hand has much to answer for." Lavinia gives the fallen Frogman a kick of disgust.
"Anyways, the armoury is right through here. We might as well grab what we can."
Lavina opens the door to the adjoining lavatory. Inside it is all sparking white porcelin and shining copper. The floor tiles are marred by a trail of blood that ends abruptly at one wall. "What...?" Lavina says in surprise before quickly fiddling with a piece of wall moulding. At her touch, that part of the wall slides away, revealing a stone-floored room
lined with weapon and armour racks, many of which are empty. Still remaining on the walls are a silvery bastard sword, a light crossbow, a glowing dagger,a suit of studded leather armour, a light steel shield, and a small wooden coffer. The wooden coffer lies on its side, the lid open and its contents (several potion vials and a pair of boots) strewn on the floor. Slumped on the ground nearby is what appears to be a recently slain dwarf.
"Oh My!"
@All: you recognize Kaskus, the dwarven druid. One of the members of the Ravens.
Graythan Fist |
Graythan glares at Justified, "Bronwenir just said we were too late. Did you not hear him or just not believe him, Justified?" Shaking his head at the man's gall and his own frustration at being too slow to save more people in the manse, Graythan turns and curtly walks back into the previous chamber.
Bronwenir |
"I'd be welcome to being proved wrong, but generally removal of the spleen and splanch -- do dwarves have splanches? It looks like a splanch -- well, wounds like this are rarely survived, I think. That said... if any of you are familiar with identifying blades from the wounds they cause, I've heard that can be very informative."
Justified* |
I was unaware Bronwenir was a healer. I do not understand you Greythan. I meant no offense. With that Justified moves to the dwarf to see if he might yet draw breath.
Gall? I think yo might be reacting a bit too strongly Greythan. How does asking for someone to check him offend you? I certainly meant no offense????
Savarend Whiteroot |
Savarend sighs, seeing one of his brothers lying bloody on the floor. He walks to the body and takes a knee, placing a hand on his brow. "The blessings of the All-Maker upon you. Return to the stone from which we are wrought. Take up the hammer, and join your brothers and sisters in fashioning the world. Wait for us, and prepare our place beside the forge of creation." He closes the dwarf's eyes and stands, shaking his head in sadness.
GM Fanguar |
.... Slumped on the ground nearby is what appears to be a recently slain dwarf....
Savarend's touch finds the dwarf still slightly warmer than the surrounding stone. Muttering to himself about the softness of elves, he roughly checks his fellow dwarf for signs of life. Pushing down on the fallen dwarf's neck with enough force to make the rest of the party cringe, he finds the faintest of pulses The dwarf is at death's door, but he is still alive, if just barely. (Stabilized at -9 HP)
Bronwenir |
Bronwenir isn't a healer, he didn't really even check, just saw what appeared to be deadly injuries and made an assumption.
"If you think he might be alive, I'll defer to you, cleric -- though only with the aid of the gods can I imagine that being the case. That said, more improbable things have happened. He might want his splanch back in that case."

Savarend Whiteroot |
Savarend's eyes light up. "He's only MOSTLY dead. There's a difference between MOSTLY dead and ALL dead. If he's mostly dead, he's slightly alive." He furrows his brow in frustration. "But I am out of healing magic, and I am not a physicker by any means. He is stabilized, and should not worsen, but I need to rest to pray to Moradin to heal him as soon as possible."
Graythan Fist |
In the adjoining room, Graythan's expression relaxes in relief when he hears Savarend speak of how Kaskus might yet be saved. His expression hardens again soon after as he considers whether anything could have been done differently to save more of Lavinia's people. He stays where he is though, listening for trouble elsewhere in the estate as he continues to dwell on the faces of those he lost.
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
GM Fanguar |
Lavinia sighs with relief, "With all that blood I had feared the worst. I would hate to have another person die in my service. Tend him best as you can Friend Whiteroot. The rest of you feel free to take whatever you might find useful. We still have some frogs to kill and a friend to find."
The weapons and armor in this room are of masterwork quality. The glowing dagger is in fact a +1 keen dagger(DC25). Four of the potions that were once in the coffer are smashed, but four potions of cure moderate wounds survive intact. The boots are boots of striding and springing (DC18).
Bronwenir |
"Let us use one of these potions on Kaskus, and if you don't mind, I'd like one myself."
If no one objects, Bron will take a potion and lift it to his lips (with his pinky finger extended).
cmw for healing Bron: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 3 = 7
If we agree to use a potion on Kaskus: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (6, 4) + 3 = 13
Bronwenir |
Taking 10 on the potions to identify them, by the way. As for the dagger and the boots:
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 231d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
"Hmm, they're very nice boots, yes. They're magic, too, but I can't quite make out what the command word is."
Justified* |
The boots are nice, but that dagger might server you better.
Justfied picks up the Silvery bastard sword and gives it a swing. Anything to the silvery part? and then, picking up the light crossbow he asks Anyone need this? I do not have have missile weapon myself, but shooting would be a last resort to me.
GM Fanguar |
@Justified: Not officially, but why don't we just make it an alchemical silver sword
@all: There is still one Jade Raven missing, the sorceress, Liamae Teslikaria
While raiding the armoury, you head a feminine shriek of pain followed by a chorus of croaking laughter coming from the stairs leading to the basement.
Moira creeps down to the base of the stairs to scout out the situation. The basement is dominated by a stream of water that drains from the pool in the courtyard and empties out through a series of grates into the cities sewers system. The grates themselves appear to have been dissolved.
In the muddy room, Moira sees that a large, overstuffed chair has been dragged down here from upstairs and a rather large Bullywug sits lounging in it. A trio of other frogmen cluster nearby. In front of them is a battered human woman dressed only in a shift to which has been affixed several pieces of silverware. Stalking her is a large insectile creature with long feathery antennae.
Moira Greyshadow |
"Guys, I have an idea." She looks over to Lady Lavinia.
"Lady Lavinia can "accidently" walk by the room. They will probably send a few of the frogmend to deal with her. She can lead them to a location of our choosing and then we surprise them."
"Sorry Milady, but they know you to be the owner of this home."
Bronwenir |
I take it the basement is not on the map.
Bron steps carefully as he moves down the stairs, trying to make no noise. It doesn't work, as he steps on a squeaky stair he didn't know about.

Bron moves forward, pulling out a scroll of Grease as he does so, hoping to catch the bullywugs unprepared.
I'll wait to see what everyone else does in their surprise round before I post.
Graythan Fist |
Graythan slips a heavy, sodden pouch from his belt as he descends the stairs. As the swelling conflict begins to explode into motion, he dashes forward and tosses the bag at the larger bullywug, hoping to keep him quite stuck and on his backside.
Tanglefoot Bag (vs touch ac, 3rd range inc): 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 = 13
Surprise Round (move): draw tanglefoot bag
Round 1 (swift): activate relentless footing (+10 ft to move speed)
Round 1 (move): move to beside/beneath Bron
Round 1 (standard): toss tanglefoot bag at chief jerkbag mcgee
When you throw a tanglefoot bag at a creature (as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet), the bag comes apart and goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, it can move only at half speed. Huge or larger creatures are unaffected by a tanglefoot bag. A flying creature is not stuck to the floor, but it must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be unable to fly (assuming it uses its wings to fly) and fall to the ground. A tanglefoot bag does not function underwater.
A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately.

I can't update the map through my phone and it's blocked on the office network - if someone could slip me up beside Bron that'd be super helpful. If not, I'll adjust the map when I get home this evening
Bronwenir |
I think I'll go ahead and post the round 1 action:
As Graythan moves up to toss the tanglefoot bag, Bron is reading his scroll.
Grease on square drawn on map. Save is DC 12 because it's from a scroll.
GM Fanguar |
Thank you guys for posting spoilers with the spell/item descriptions. It's super appreciated.
@Moira: Nobody is in flanking position yet. You can hide and advance and wait until next turn, but you do have line of sight on the enemies and could get 2 ranged sneak attacks off on them.
Tanglefoot ref save DC15: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 Glued to the chair
Grease 1 DC12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Grease 2 DC12: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Green guy on his butt
The alchemical and magic effects wash over the unsuspecting frogmen, leaving them a shambles.
Savarend and Moira are still up.
