Mohktar sē Bāharaurori |

Knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Mohktar pauses at the old man's recitation of what sounds like scripture. But they are words beyond his experience or study. Unable to recall, he instead dips his chin in agreement with Shiko. "The dark goddess is calling her servants south. Perhaps their final gambit is closer to hand than we'd like."
"We have two or three hours of travel on the day. I suggest we camp nearby, rest the animals, then set out at first light."
Mohktar spares a glance for the odd curator but turns back to the group to await their decision. In the back of his mind, the monk considers what would push a man to live alone in a place such as this isolated shrine. Was his duty passed down aso a part of his lineage? Or was it a calling of thus "central deity" to which he ascribes?
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (3) + 12 = 15
DM Fang Dragon |
Looks like the motion to move on is seconded. Any last questions? I'll move us forward in a couple of hours.
DM Fang Dragon |
Conversation with the old man dries up and at Shikyo and Mohkarts urging, Bala leads you south. The hermit sets about pruning the bushes with his secateurs and he barely notices you go. The jungle soon swallows the path and before long you're following what could at best be described as an animal track. Yet here or there Bala points out signs of recent passage, including at least one clawed footprint matching the others you saw.
Random Encounter?: 1d100 ⇒ 74
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
The light is staring to fade, and up ahead the trail fords a small stream choked with logs and vines.
Mohktar sē Bāharaurori |
.
My suggestion was to camp nearby and wait for first light. Is that what we're doing?
.
"Hmmm, camping near such a place with no ready exit..." Mohktar has a look around...
Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
Mohktar thrusts up a hand, signaling for the column to stop. He reaches forward and grabs Shiko by the shoulder. Then he quietly whispers, "Crocodiles ahead. Large ones. We need to get the elephants back before they panic." He signals whomever is manning the ballista and gestures to the logs. "Crocodiles." He alerts.
Bala Bel Kanash |
Bala leads the elephants back a short way, and tells you, "Hama magara cārōṁ ōra jānē kē li'ē sakṣama hō sakatā hai, ēka mīla pīṭha kē ēka quater kē bārē mēṁ ēka chōṭē jānavara kē niśāna nahīṁ thā. Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
Crocodiles not being something Alwyn wished to meet unaware he is grateful for Mohktar's warning. Listening to Bala's suggested route he picks his brain to remember the maps he studied before. loremaster gives him a 20
"That way has to be nothing but virgin jungle! Unless your elephants can push their way through we'll be lucky to make it half way up the hillside tonight."
Shikyomaru Kuro |
I wish I had known there would be a ton of overland stuff, I wouldn't have made Shikyo so city focused....I thought we would be spending the entire module in Niswan.
Why not lure the crocodile away? Then we can continue on. Is that even possible?
DM Fang Dragon |
The overland travel is almost over. The rest of the module is basically a dungeon crawl, I think Shikyo will be good there.
If you have a good idea to lure them, then sure try it.
Shikyomaru Kuro |
Shikyo shrugs and jogs out to the riverbank. Waving his arms like an insane man he shouts Hey! You Brother Crocodile. You want to eat Tien man for breakfast yes! Come and get some! if the Croc obliges, then Shikyo will lead him down the bank a ways, hopefully long enough for the elephants to cross, then Shikyo will disappear using his Ki powers and head back.
DM Fang Dragon |
A bold plan. How close are you going to get to it when you try that?
Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
Alwyn follows the ninja to see what he will be doing, laughing to see the ninja act so he figures to help him as well, speaking an arcane phrase he reaches his arm out and makes a swatting motions downward.
cast mage hand, swatting the nose of the croc to help focus it on the ninja, range 45'
stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (1) + 14 = 15 to avoid being seen by the croc in the meantime, or not....
DM Fang Dragon |
Does the dire crocodile get riled by Shikyo and Alwyn?: 1d100 ⇒ 70 --> Oh yes it does!
The huge dire crocodile furiously snaps it jaws and surges after the pair, however they stay frustratingly out of reach. The crocodile is the apex predator in water, but on land it's kind of slow. The pair lead it on a merry dance, although Alwyn suddenly realize Shikyo is nowhere to be seen.
Eventually the crocodile tires of chasing and ends up waddling back into the water a quarter of a mile up stream. Just as the light is starting to get bad, Alwyn jogs back to where the others where. But he finds only Master Bvar casually leaning against a tree.
Master Bvar eyes the bard wryly, "Apparently you are very good at running ser bard! Anyway Bala wanted to get to a particular campsite he knew of, with a fixed fireplace. It's about a mile past the stream, if you'll follow me."
He leads Alwyn (and maybe Shikyo - but who can say where the slippery ninja has got to?) to the camp and by the time they get there it's full dark. The had to use a lantern to see the road, and the various eyes shining from within the foliage was unnerving. Still they are greeted by the smells of cooking and a good size bonfire under a kind of wicker roof (but no walls) suspended by four stout timbers, in a small clearing by the trail. The roof isn't much but it will keep rain off the cookfire, and there are various hooks driven into the support timbers for hammocks.
Are you setting watch? If so please tell me the watch order.
Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
heheh, the idea was to attract its attention to you, not me, oh well I needed to stretch anyways"
Alwyn will offer to take first watch, gives him a chance to catch up his journal.
DM Fang Dragon |

Stealth: 1d20 + 28 ⇒ (16) + 28 = 44 -- Yes seriously +28, it's in the statblock. I'll post it later if you like.
Shikyo perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
The first couple of hours of Shikyo's watch pass peacefully, but suddenly the camp fire goes out and there's a commotion! Shikyo hears Pratavh yelp in pain, and hears what sounds like the snarl of big cat! Yet in the half light of the stars, he sees the vague outline of a monstrous humanoid with stripy fur and wicked looking claws.
Bite, Favored Enemy, Power Attack: 1d20 + 13 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 13 + 4 - 2 = 20 -> Miss Just as well!

Claw, Favored Enemy, Power Attack: 1d20 + 12 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 4 - 2 = 20 -> Miss
The stars are out providing dim illumination for the clearing, but under the jungle canopy it's full dark, and you'd be effectively blind there unless you have some way of seeing in the dark or a light source.
You are Ambushed!

Hirati & Shikyomaru are up!
Pratavh |
Hirati cries out, "Prat NO!!!" She breathes a cloud of gas at it and then moves back.
Standard: Use Breathe Weapon: euphoria for 1d6 rounds, DC 12 Fort negates. Creatures affected by euphoria are staggered, sickened, and immune to fear effects for the duration. A faerie dragon can use this breath weapon once every 1d4 rounds.
Free: Yells and alert and five foot move away.
DM Fang Dragon |
Hirati tries her best but her breath doesn't faze Pratavh's assailant.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Shikyomaru is up.
Shikyomaru Kuro |
Shikyo slips into the ki assisted vision he has come to rely on Darkvision Ki power and he moves closer to the beast, drawing his weapon.
Katana: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 Damage: 1d8 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
There are enemies afoot! Shikyo shouts
DM Fang Dragon |
Shikyo slips into the jitsu of vision and suddenly the nighttime world is reveled to him in all it's start lit glory as if he was a native. He thrust with his sword but the man tiger is unbelievably fast and twists away from the blow!
Still Shikyo bought Pratavh time, the bite didn't land, but two powerful claws did raking the mage and the sleeping bard next to him! The agile tiger-man dances to the west so he can't easily be flanked.
Bite, Favored Enemy, Power Attack: 1d20 + 13 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 13 + 4 - 2 = 19Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (4, 5) + 5 + 4 = 18

Lilly looks at the were-tiger.
"May your sight vanish for hurting my friends."
Cast Blindness, Fort DC 18.
She then moves in an arch, trying to get into a flanking position for Shiko.
Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
Startled awake by the commotion, Alwyn throws his hand out towards the shape standing over him and Pratavh. lúmini!!

DM Fang Dragon |
DOH! You got saved by the bell there Alwyn. lets just say it's a good thing the weretiger stepped away from you...
Alwyn dances away and suddenly there is light, and everyone can see clearly!
I've not forgotten you Lilly, but I'm going to try and run the fight in initiative order :)

Startled awake by the warning, the monk is greeted with a burst of light. The illumination bathes the beatial form of a half man half tiger, blood dripping from its claws. He leaps to his feet and races to put himself between the animal and Pratavh. Along the way he focuses his Ki for added protection.

Perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Trying to study the animal-man, Mohktar attempts to land a swift kick.
Kick (*): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 3) + 2 = 8
(*) Unarmed is considered Cold Iron, Silver & Magic
Pratavh |
I should really keep my mouth shut about it but my compulsively honest side is going to screw me just now. Those 20's from the surprise round did hit me, that is my ac with mage armor, buckler, and dex mod included.
Pratavh finds himself in very bad shape when he wakes up to the searing pain of his injuries and the mental screams of Hirati. Finally seeing what is attacking him Pratavh begins casting as carefully as he can so as not to draw the things attention then his body becomes blurry as the magic takes hold. He otherwise stays very still in the hopes that the thing will be drawn away from him.
Cast defensively: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (16) + 18 = 34
Standard: defensive cast blurr.
Holding off on recording my damage until I know for sure how much I take.
Shikyomaru Kuro |
Shikyo attempts to move into a flanking position and attack!
Stab: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 +2 if flanking
Stab 2: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 +2 if flanking
However, the tiger man dodges everything thrown at him...so Shikyo disappears (Ki power)
DM Fang Dragon |
@Mohktar what you described makes sense as an action but Pratavh says he's staying still. So I moved you so you flank with Shikyo San. If you want to ret-con this to some other position just draw an arrow for me.
AOO Vs Mohktar: 1d20 + 12 + 4 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 4 - 2 = 15 --> Complete miss.
Mohktar nimbly lands next to Pratavh and trades blows with the man-tiger but each is too quick for the other, and neither blow hits home!
@Pratavh So I'm not actually mean enough to treat those as hits, you'd be in the negatives which is more or less equivalent to saying "rocks fall you die". Yes a GM could do that, no it's not fun for anyone. That doesn't mean he's NOT gunning for you however! This guy is intelligent and likes the taste of mage...
Pratavh manages to hold his concentration, in the face of a fearsome attack, sufficiently to complete his spell and suddenly his outline becomes blurry and indistinct. The man-tiger snarls!
Lilly completes her spell and suddenly the man-tiger clutches at his eyes, and screams as Shikyo's blades bite deeply!
Fort DC 18: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 ---> He's blind.
Yikes, he looses all dex when blind which is very very bad for him. Shikyo please roll damage.
Hirati -- CAN ACT TOO
Shikyomaru <--- WE ARE HERE, DMG roll needed
Man Tiger
Alwyn
Master Bvar
Pratavh
Mohktar
Lilly
Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
Nice job Lilly
Shikyomaru Kuro |
Ouch...and honestly, if he were blinded then Shikyo would have used the Ki for an extra attack not to become invisible.
Shiko's blade bites deep

DM Fang Dragon |
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (7) + 21 = 28
The weretiger screams and runs away headlong into the forest, you hear him bounce off various trees followed by bestial noises of anguish receding into the distance.
COMBAT OVER
Unless you wish to pursue.
Pratavh |
Hirat flutters agitatedly over Pratavh, "Prat! Are you OK Prat, please be ok Prat!" Pratavh smiles at the dragonette and replies, "I will be just fine Hirati, particularly if someone can manage to help me up and do something about this wound."
Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
Alwyn walks over retrieving a wand from his side wrist sheath, reaching down to help Pratavh up with one hand and touching his side with the wand.
Wand CMW: 10d8 + 15 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 5, 2, 8, 1, 3, 1, 6) + 15 = 51 discharging 5 charges before he feels the wizard looks back in fighting condition
Alwyn of the Brazzen Peaks |
went by the totals on the combat map, showing you at 3/64, Think you got hit in both the surprise round and again with me in round 1 before we could move away.
Alwyn also expends some of his personal stores of magic to restore hisself.
CLW: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (2, 7) + 10 = 19
Pratavh |
Ah, for some reason I only thought I got hit once. That being the case yeah, I needed it. I see, I thought it turned on Shikyomaru for that flurry. That woulda changed some of my last post. Guess I shoulda read it closer.
Lilly Hennett |
With the weretiger running away, Lilly smiles.
"Al-right!"
She looks at all the others then.
"Pratavh, you're going to be fine it seems. Everybody else ok?
That big cat was no pushover."
Lilly Hennett |
"However, wasn't the tale there were werebeasts?
This would obviously suggest they are not 'extinct'."
Pratavh |
"Thank you Alwayn, the help is greatly appreciated." With Pratavh's health restored he starts to get up but feels instantly weak and wits right back down. Hirati has landed on him and is trying her best to burrow into his chest as she sobs in worry at her wizard's near death experience. Pratavh just sits there and holds the little dragon, scratching her frill an murmuring to her in an effort to calm her. "If anyone tries to convince us there are not any here anymore I will convince them myself."
