Dot in here, introduce yourselves, and we'll get started in the next couple of days. I would like to get at least one more player, but if not we can make do with four.
Kaya Yoshida |
"Interesting name, the Laughing Lizard," Kaya commented to the others say they entered. "Think it was drunk?"
She grinned, clearly amused, and added: "I'll bet it bodes well for our work. I'm Kaya by the way. Kaya Yoshida."
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir grunts in greeting. "Guntir Mithr'lf'st." He moves over to the bar "Ale."

Kaya Yoshida |
"Glad to eye we both made it! He said it was obstacles, right? What do you think they'll be?" she wondered aloud.
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir looks at Maya with a blank expression for a second or two. "Well, likely, I think 't'll be..." he pauses, "obstacles." He turns back to his drink, muttering under his breath, but his voice is so deep that what he says is perfectly audible: "Damn overcurious newcomers"
don't take it personal. He's always like this

Lissa Villasani |
Lissa slips up to the bar, thankful for the rest that she had after her last mission. "Mead," she calls out to the barkeep, placing the coins for said drink on the counter. After receiving her drink, she turns her attention to the rest of the room, wondering what all this particular mission will entail.
After all, 'Obstacle Course' could even one of a great number of things.... She shrugs noncommittally and grins a little. At least this done won't have a dummy like that obnoxious device that Janira set-up.
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
"Agh, Don' mind 'im, lass," Graxzos says as he follows Kaya and Guntir in. "'E can't 'elp it. Stoneless northerners all got a stick up their butts!" He hops adroitly onto a bar stool next to Kaya, on the far side of Guntir. "Whiskey!" he calls. "An' a side i' beef, if'n yeh have it. Rare. Real rare!"
Turning back to Kaya, he says, "Ne'er got a chance t'innerduce m'self. Name's Graxzos, Graxzos Khar-Bulkhet. M'friends call me Grax. You can call me Graxzos."
He tossed his head back and roars with laughter at his own joke. "AHAHAHAHAHA! Eheh, tha' ne'er gets old!"
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir's face sours at Graxzos' initial comment but he offers a deep chuckles into his ale at the following joke.

Kaya Yoshida |
Kaya shrugged, deciding that she'd leave the dwarf be for the time being. A woman called for mead, but before Kaya could engage with her, the dwarf from the Lodge caught up to introduce himself.
She grinned at his easy introduction and smiled at his cheesy joke. "Nice ta meet ya, then! I'm Kaya, as I was sayin'. What d'ya think we'll be up against?"
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Graxzos grins when Guntir laughs at his joke, and cheers when the bartender delivers the whiskey. Taking a deep sip, he smacks his lips and turns to Kaya. "I can't imagine it'll be anythin' too difficult fer a group o' experienced Pathfinders like ourselves! Test some obstacle course, eh, no worries. In 'n out like nothin'. Probably some traps or...I dunno, maybe illusions that the Grand Lodge's set up?" He shrugs. "Like I said, no worries."
Papy Shayn |
Dot in, proper intro to come.
GM Evil |
Welp, Paizo apparently ate my gameplay post yesterday. Sorry Everyone! Let's try this again..
Once you've all finally gathered at The Laughing Lizard, Kel comes out of the back area.
Mates, you don't get a fancy greeting and mission briefing from a Venture Captain for this one, I'm afraid. You'll be off to Karammoss shortly, to The Red Redoubt. There, the obstacle course will be waiting for you. More seasoned pathfinders than yourselves set it up, and you'll be there first to run it, so before you leave I suggest you purchase anything you think you'll need. Before you ask, yes, they've probably got some real beasties in there for you, so I would be prepared for combat as well. Any other questions?
Some of you may know a bit about Karamoss and The Red Redoubt already
While the Redoubt has no permanent residents, bandits, outcasts, or the occasional monster sometimes use it as a lair. Infighting for territory among these groups usually nullifies their threat, so Absalom’s authorities don’t interfere.
[spoiler=Knowledge (History)DC 20] Karamoss’s armies included initial waves of hobgoblins, followed by legions of strangely intelligent constructs. After several years and some close calls, the fight turned against Karamoss and the Redoubt fell.
Kel waits patiently for any last questions.

"Ya'll might've run a few rodeos, but this here'll be my first." Kaya grinned. "Guess I've got a lot a' examples ta look up to!"
Knowledge(Local): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
Considering the mentioned locations, Kaya paused, before wondering aloud: "Wasn't there a guy that joined the BloodRed Raiders, recently? From the Clockwork Cathedral?"

Guntir's right, Kaya--you can look at the lower ones as well. Please do, since my roll's not good enough to do so! :P
Graxzos listens to the briefing with interest, but doesn't comment much. When she asks her question, Graxzos blinks at Kaya in surprise. "Got yer ear to th'ground, fer a rookie, don'tcha?" he asks with a chuckle. "I don't know much about th'Bloodred Raiders, but I do remember the Redoubt--some kinda fortress, I think (going by the name there). Mostly just occupied by a bunch o' squatter these days, humanoid an' otherwise. Best t'be prepared fer anythin'! If those o' you what can use 'em have them 'ealer sticks people're so fond of, I'll take a look around an' see if I can't find some things that go boom, make pretty lights, an' whatnot." He chuckles.
As the group sets out into Absalom, he claps Kaya on the shoulder (well, the mid-to-lower back). "Don't you be worryin', girlie--we'll take care o' yeh!" He turns to the other two who were clearly listening to the briefing as the party falls in together. "Now, sir an' lady, who're you lot?"
Grax will buy:
2 paper alchemical cartridges (24 gp)
2 alkahi flasks (30 gp)
1 flask of alchemist's fire (20 gp)
2 iron pellet grenades (100 gp)
Total: 174 gp
Kaya Yoshida |
rip, my bad. <3 Thanks!
Kaya listened as Graxzos spoke and nodded. "I try, here an' there. 's not much else a wee greenling like me can do!"
Understanding that not everyone had heard about the place, she then added: "They're a group of bandits that robs travelers near the moral cesspit that is the Redoubt. The Redoubt has no permanent residents, but the groups there are always fighting each other for the territory. It's mostly bandits and outcasts.
"Absalom's authorities won't bother with them because of all the infighting. We'll have to be careful."
She grinned when she was clapped on the....not-quite-rear. She was helping out already!

So, from now on mi rolls will be awfull. To compensate this.
A sturdy half-elf who was apparantely occupied sharpening his longspear, waits until Kaya ends her lecture about the social situation of the Red REdbout to talk.
I was told to come to this test to "hone" my skills. Well, let´s start filling out what Kaya hadn´t said about the siegue castle:
The Red Redoubt is constructed almost entirely of a strange, dark red metal. Supposedly, the entire structure rose in a single night. The red metal of the Redoubt is called djezeteel—a unique alloy of iron and the liquid skymetal djezet invented by Karamoss.
The Red Redoubt of Karamoss was a siege castle created more than 1,000 years ago by the “machine mage” Karamoss in a failed attempt to conquer Absalom. Karamoss’s armies included initial waves of hobgoblins, followed by legions of strangely intelligent constructs. After several years and some close calls, the fight turned against Karamoss and the Redoubt fell. While the Redoubt’s upper dungeons have been cleared, many levels lie hidden beneath. Karamoss himself was never found; some say he lives on below.
He waits for a moment, to see if someone has something else to add. But I doubt there will be an exam in this "obstacle course with beasts", so we should be prepared to facewell whatever our more seasoned mates think we should face in a field mission ends shruging.
Lissa Villasani |
Lissa finishes her drink and stands, smoothing out her skirt as she does. "So, If I'm understanding what you all are saying, We're going to one of the siege castles that's a local den of bandits and montsters in order to 'run a test' devised by our betters, who could have put who knows what for us to deal with and that has the possibility of been co-opted by whatever critters live in the site." She pauses for a moment before grinning. "Sounds like fun, who's got the map?"
After a moment's pause, she looks about the entourage,"Oh I'm sorry, I should have introduced myself. I'm Lissa."
Papy Shayn |
A stout dwarf is sitting in a corner, barely rising his grey eyes from his mug of ale. He's clad in a worn out full plate, witnessing the battles of its host. A big warhammer is hung in his back. A strange person sits next to him, not touching his own mug. His pale skin suggest he doesn't belong to this world. Not entirely. He seems to be clad in a breastplate made in the same white-green matter.
Turning towards the party, the dwarf downs his pint and burps loudly. He then looks at his companion with a black eye. "Ya could hold it, Tog!" he says with his teeth grinding.
The phantom bows, as if to apologize, but looks at him fiercely.
The dwarf looks to each member of the squad and grins with a crooked smile.
"Name's Papy Shayn. Knight serving... Well... Just a knight."
Pointing at the big phantom beside him, he spits on the ground. "And that's Tog."
"Looks like we have a dwarvish party. Let's drink to that!"
Sorry for the delay. I'm all good now. I'm excited to play this one as I already played Fires of Karamoss :)
Toggeli |
The phantom bows low and displays some unnatural manners for an ectoplasmic creature. Looking at the party, he quickly avoids being side by side with Papy and goes near Kaya.
"A pleasure to meet such a wonderful and beautiful creature! My name is Toggeli. Das Toggeli. Pleased to meet you!" he says with a deep but gracious voice, kissing Kaya's hand.
Kaya Yoshida |
Kaya blinked, a bit puzzled by the familiar treatment, but smiled all the same. She'd heard Pathfinders were an interesting lot before she'd gone and signed up - thus far this lot was proving those rumors correct!
"A pleasure to meet you as well, Mr. Toggeli," she responded, blushing slightly as he kissed her hand. She was a thief and mischief maker first and foremost, so this was... dare she say it? It was fun. She got the feeling that the lot of them would get up to a great deal of mischief and she also felt that it would be the exciting sort.
After all, here before her was a flattering phantom with manners and a rather lively group of dwarves, with a few exceptions.
"This is going to be quite the adventure, isn't it?" the kitsune grinned, before adding, "And I'm Kaya, for those who didn't catch it the first time."
To Lissa, she said, "I ain't got no map, but it can't be too hard to get there, seein' as they've tasked us with it."
GM Evil |
Once everyone is ready, Kel nods to the group.
Well, good luck to you. And remember, if you're ever on this side of Absalom and need a drink and a bed, fellow Pathfinders always receive 10% off at The Laughing Lizard!
You are all ushered into a carriage that takes you out of Absalom, and into the Cairnlands. It's a fairly quick trip, and you arrive at your destination around noon, in the idst of the ruins of The Red Redoubt. Follwing markers driven into the ground, and painted on bits of still standing walls, you make your way to the beginning of the test.
The noonday sun shines brightly in a cloudless sky, but the rugged landscape diffuses the light as if through a stained glass window composed entirely of crimson panes. Deep red metal walls, broken but mostly untouched by rust even a millennium, form an obstacle course through the landscape. Clearly, when the Red Redoubt of Karamoss was named, it was not done ironically. The marked path through the siege castle’s ruins leads to a large central chamber open to the sky above. Aside from the metallic flooring, walls, and rubble, nothing remains of the so-called “machine mage” Karamoss or his lost armies. Refuse, old campfire rings, and other signs of life attest to the place being a haven for scavengers and vagabonds. The chamber is filled with a large, circular shaft in the metal floor, with smoothly rolled edges that demonstrate superbly uniform craftsmanship. A rope ladder descends into the pit, anchored by pitons hammered into the floor panels.
Once you descend, the entrance shaft opens into the center of a red steel chamber. The floor beneath the shaft is canted at a slight angle; it seems to have originally been a circular platform that fit flush with the rest of the room but at some point unevenly sank a foot or so. The floors around the room’s perimeter are solid and even, with a textured surface to give better footing on the smooth metal. The walls are riveted metal plates, fallen or torn off in places to reveal solid rock behind. Recessed slabs of metal with adjacent panels, presumably exits, are centered on each wall. The northern panel glows dimly, illuminating scorch marks and glistening red stains around it.
No map for this room, unfortunately. The scenario only gives maps when they are needed, apparently, so if you need more info, just ask and I will provide the details
Graxzos Glyphkeeper |
Graxzos keeps up a running chatter as the party makes its way to the Red Redoubt, though he quiets down once they're within the walls of the old structure itself.
The dwarf squats over the edge of the shaft in the metal floor, peering down into it. "Welp, here goes nothin', I guess," he says, climbing down the rope ladder. At the bottom, he peers around cautiously.

"My eyes ain't what they used to be...Anyone got a light?" Glancing around, he takes in the doors. "...well, either tha' glowin' one is th' one tha' leads us to our death, or...it's the way we gotta go." He strides over and examines the panel more closely (without touching it).
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir grumbles not so quietly about the chatter on the walk.

Lissa enjoys Graxzos' running commentary and interjects her two copper in whenever she feels she has something to add, which admittedly isn't that often.
---
After slipping down the ladder, she reaches into her belt pouch and pulls out her Wayfinder, lighting it as she steps toward the glowing door. "It's something at least, and this isn't somewhere that'll garotte me for having it." after a brief look around the room, she agrees with Graxzos. "I don't think our more experienced colleagues would make a instant death trip, so that's our path, I guess."

Kaya Yoshida |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Following the others down, Kaya peered into the darkness, frowning a bit. Still, it wasn't as bad as it could've been. There could've been pitch blackness and no hope of sun, but as it were, there was the reflection of light along the shaft as well as the light from Lissa's compass. She considered the light from the Wayfinder and her own meager skills before deciding that a torch might be of some use.
Drawing one from her backpack, she scowled. "Dagnabbit, I went and forgot to get me some flint n' steel!" She felt foolish.
"I've got us a torch here, but no way of lightin' it! Has anyone got themselves a bit o' spark?"
Irudiel |
Graxzos, you mean one light similar to the one orbiting around my head, or do you prefer something different. ;D Says Irudiel pointing the ioun torch, then he turns to Kaya. Save your torch for another day, or think in buying one of this, they´re handy.
Even if I agree with Lissa in this not being an instant death trip, I´ll prefer to check for harmless traps. You know snare traps, pit traps filled with something soft at the bottom... something like that.
Perception, inspired: 1d20 + 13 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 13 + (6) = 32 +1 more for traps
Papy Shayn |
"No need for torch for me either. Dwarves can see in the dark. This one can also." says Papy, spitting at the feet of his phantom which eyes begin to glow red. He does nothing, however.

"Oh, that's a fair 'nuff light, I think," Kaya said, blinking at the ioun torch. She grinned at the half-elf, nodding agreeably. "I think you're right. I doubt my torch'll add enough light to that to make its use worth its copper."
She stowed her torch and handed the flint and steel back to Guntir, saying, "My thanks! May I count on you to lend these to my later if we find we need 'em?"
Guntir Mithralfist |
Guntir grunts noncommittally.

Inspecting the door, you are all able to discern that the red stains are in fact a harmless paint, and the scorch marks are from tiny black powder explosives used to scatter said paint.

There´s no test here for us, lets go on. Says Irudiel drinking his heightened awareness extract before tresspasing the door to inspect the other side.
Perception, heightened awareness, inspired: 1d20 + 13 + 2 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 13 + 2 + (3) = 36 +1 for traps
First, heightened awareness will last 30 minutes, wich I hope is enough to last the whole dungeon, if not let me know when it expires.
Second, as we were warned about traps Irudiel is going to search the rooms looking for them. If you like it, you could make hidden rolls only when necesary so we can rid of unnecesary rolls. As Irudiel is confident of his abilities if he fails a check he will trigger the trap unless someone warns him.
It´s ok for you?
Papy Shayn |
"Fine. Let's go." says Papy, entering just after Irudiel.

Graxzos shrugs. "Seems weird t'me tha' they went t'th'trouble o' coverin' it in paint...but I guess I got no better ideas." He checks his gun, and follows the others.
Graxzos keeps his gun loaded with one round of regular shot unless otherwise noted. He always reloads after a fight if his gun is empty.

Seeing that some of the others were arming up, Kaya followed suit with her rapier. As she moved with the others, she kept an eye out for traps.

No worries, GM :)

The PDF gave me an insane amount of trouble trying to copy the map, so I just drew my own. Hopefully the problem doesn't persist with later maps...
Not finding any traps, you use the panel by the door. A simple touch opens it, and the light from your various sources reveal a corridor ahead that branches in four directions. North and west,
the tunnels continue unobstructed, but the eastern branch is
blocked with a stout metal grating marked with three crimson
circles within a triangle. A large, white “X” is scrawled in chalk

"What's the usual procedure for these things?" Kaya asked, curious. "Mind lettin' me check about for traps?"
She looked around to see if there was anything of note to help the ioun torch owner and then stepped closer to the friendly dwarf to look for traps. The kitsune wasn't entirely sure what was supposed to be happening, but they'd encountered some sort of red paint and now they were looking at a chalk marking.
