"This is a crypt. A sealed crypt at that. There shouldn't anything living down here, let alone monsters," Zilchus opines wistfully to Augustus.

Cats moves in, going right where Nidhi goes left. He's looks around for obvious trouble, but then does a scan of the sarcophagus.

If there is nothing of interest, he'll move to examine the double doors.

Nidhi goes left and Zilchus goes right. Nothing stirs, and nothing in particular attracts their attention. All seams peaceful and at rest.

Oh, Zilchus will note that the doors to the north are not locked, there are no locks on those doors, much like the ones from which they entered.

"If you want to be particular we actually have found quite a bit already - it just depends on what your idea of 'treasure' is," Florence points out as she carefully follows Zilchus and Nidhii into the room. Bynx trails behind her, sniffling the dusty air curiously.

She looks around, cautiously. "So, is this it? Is this Akhentepi's uh...coffin? It looks grand, but...I don't know, I expected a little more trouble to get to it..."

Florence has found a trap!

Stepping on the raised dias will trigger it but she's not sure what it does.

"This entire tomb does look rather expensive," Nidhi agrees, "Do you think he got to see his own burial chamber before he died?" Nidhi looks at each of her companions, curious about their opinions.

Benedictus enters the octagonal room and stares in awe at its glorious interior. “This…this is very beautiful, don’t you think?”, he says to the others, his voice clearly betraying his rapture. “Look at sarcophagus! And those statues of Anubis, they look…wonderful.

The scholar’s rapture is interrupted only by the discovery of a trap by Florence. “Stepping on the raised dias will trigger a trap, hm?” Benedictus tries to analyze the situation and scratches his chin thoughtfully, but not brilliant idea comes to him this time. Closing his eyes, the Osirionologist tries to detect magic auras in the room, turning on his himself in order to scan every corner of the crypt.

Roll20 Map - Treasure Sheet

Benedictus does not find any magical auras other than the few the party has with them.

Zilchus looks down at the dais that he had almost stepped upon. "Wow, that was close...uhm...yeah...let's exit the room and see if we can't disarm it or set it off from afar," Zilchus says as he retreats back to the stairway.

"We might be able to find something heavy to toss on the dais that might set off the trap, right? Maybe we'll put them spiders in a bag with some rocks or something..."

Wait to see if Nidhi can disarm, then we'll do with Plan Z from Outer Carapace.

Roll20 Map - Treasure Sheet

Nidhi will need to be next to the dias to try and disarm it. Is everyone leaving her alone in the room to deal with the trap? Just checking...

Neutral Human Bard/14

Hearing Benedictus point out a trap, Nidhi walks over to him.

Prof. Benedictus Dickens wrote:
“Stepping on the raised dias will trigger a trap, hm?”

"Another trap?" Nidhi asks, "Okay, let me try to disarm it." Map

Nidhi stares at the others expectantly. "Are you staying in the room or going back to the stairs while I try?" Nidhi can't access the trap as easily as she'd like because Florence and Benedictus are in the way.

If Florence and Benedicus don't move, Nidhi will shrug and half-haphazardly try to disarm the trap, standing at the side. I warned them... Oh well! Let's do this! If they move out of the way, Nidhi will proceed with the upmost caution.

Disarm Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23

Roll20 Map - Treasure Sheet

Stil not sure if Nidhi was left alone to disarm the trap or if others were nearby, but as she did not fail, we’ll move along. :)

Nidhi successfully disarms the trap!

As she does so, she discovers that the northern doors are false - a part of the trap. If the trap had been triggered, those doors would open while the others would close fast, flooding the room with the mighty Sphinx river, drowning everyone inside.

Had she been unsuccessful, and the party retreated out of the room, she’d have been left alone to die…

Neutral Human Bard/14

"The trap looks disarmed now," Nidhi calls to her adventuring party. "Don't touch those northern doors - they're fake. If you open them they'll flood this room killing us all."

With the trap disarmed, Nidhi cautiously approaches the coffin examining it without touching it.

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Roll20 Map - Treasure Sheet

Nidhi is impressed by the scroll work in the gold. It looks like gold leaf, as opposed to a solid gold sarcophagus, but it is impressive none the less.

Imagine what wealth must lie inside.

Assuming Nidhi reveals the nature of the trap...

"Oh, that was very close...Fortunately we have you, Nidhi!" Benedictus smiles at the girl and cautiously wanders the room. "What should we do with Akhentepi's sarcophagus? I suppose it would be very disrespectful to remove it from the crypt, although it seems to be very valuable." Benedictus squints at Nidhi. "What would you suggest?" Then, after hearing Nidhi's opinion, Benedictus turns to Zilchus, Augustus and Florence. "What's your take on the matter? As I see it, we should at least open the sarcophagus, in order to see if Akhentepi was buried with something valuable, at least from a historical or archaelogical point of view. In that case, we should throughly search the sarcophagus before actually opening it, since chances are that it's trapped just like the whole crypt."

Neutral Human Bard/14

"I think the sarcophagus is too heavy for us to remove." Nidhi imagines a crude rope and pulley system up the 60 foot shaft they'd descended earlier. Nidhi sighs. If they want to remove the cats they'll probably want to remove Akhentepi too. Nidhi frowns.

Prof. Benedictus Dickens wrote:
"In that case, we should throughly search the sarcophagus before actually opening it, since chances are that it's trapped just like the whole crypt."

Nidhi thinks Benedictus has a good point so she begins to search the sarcophagus for traps. (Can Nidhi take 10 minutes for a 20?)

Roll20 Map - Treasure Sheet

You can take-20 on your perception, but it only takes 2 minutes I think not 10. :)

You find no further traps on the sarcophagus.

Neutral Human Bard/14

"The sarcophagus looks safe to open. No traps that I can see." Nidhi walks out of the room into the stairway.

"I'd feel guilty about disturbing his corpse so one of you should do it... if you're going disturb his slumber." Nidhi hesitates but doesn't say anything else. Pharasma is this all part of my fate? To disturb someone's grave?

"Fake doors?" Zilchus seems confused. "Maybe this place isn't adorable after all..." He moves in to inspect, but not touch the fake doors.

"Yes, we could open sarcophagus. It's probably the things that Abdur would most want to hear about," Zilchus agrees, moving to one side of the dais. "Do you think its safe to open?"

"That was a really good job with that trap," Florence whispers to Nidhii, apparently a bit oblivious to the fact that she'd been standing in the way. "And it sounds like it was a really nasty one, too...death by drowning..." she shudders.

As Zilchus and Augustus ready themselves to lift the sarcophagus lid, she makes sure to stand clear lest they lose their grip or something else horrible happens. Longspear in hand, she watches - though she does cast a curious glance back out the southern doors.

If this is the main room, I wonder where the other doors go?

"Sure! One.... Two.... Lift!" Augustus attempts to lift the sarcophagus lid with Zilchus.

Strength: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7

Augustus strains to lift the lid, his muscles finally feeling the stress of the previous combats.

When Augustus gives up after one attempt, Zilchus looks at him.

C'mon, Augustus. Is there a reason why you only rolled once? If you're only posting once a day (that's fine), but you gotta make them count.

Zilchus waits for Augustus to try again.

No need to roll a strength check to drag someone away from the fight so long as you have the weight allowance to do it (likely), but it is a standard action. I'll assume you did not yet do so.

Round 4, Init 15

"Augh! I'd rather deal with the dolls or the bugs again!" Florence shrieks with frustration as the sarcophagus continues to prove resilient. Now unsure of whether she'd be better off trying to distract it for Augustus or not, she simply tries stabbing at it again and nearly slips on the stone steps for her trouble.

Attack (Longspear; Flanking): 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 1 + 2 = 4
Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Zilchus groans as if he was most of the way into achieving a higher state of consciousness but is waking to find he has been sicking himself in the bedpan.

*slurr* Zilchus reigns in the drool line from his lips.

Benedictus stares in frustration at the coffin and his group, unable to properly face the danger. Preparation is everything, in cases like this. We all need to improve and be prepared to face such threats, in the future...Provided we manage to get away from this place, that is.

Already knowing he won't be able to help his companions unless Desna would smile on him, bestwoing an innatural luck on his otherwise poor gifts as a crossbowman, Benedictus loads his crossbow once again and fires a bolt at the coffin.

Round 4
Init 10

Concentrating on not being eaten Augustus doesn't say anything as his flail barely strikes the construct. A split second later he is forced to raise his shield to block another bite attempts from the sarcophagus.

He swings again as the others get Zilchus out of the way, determined to take the enemy down himself.

Swings at the sarcophagus

Light Flail: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Bludgeoning Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Augustus is not well practiced with his flail apparently...
