Sh'yl M'sshakul |
Are you sure Xerxes ? It seems to me a long fall... but I you are for such a brillant entrance, who am I to deny you the right to do it !
We can go through swiming also
Said Sh'yl after the protos' suggestion
Xerxes of Aiur |
How high is it, actually?
EndlessForms |
Sorry, forgot: the ring is a ring of swimming (how convenient!).
The cliff stands 40 feet above the water's surface.
Xerxes of Aiur |
That sounds manageable. If I use my grappling hook and rope to go down the cliff, I wouldn't need to fall for a great distance. Clearly that entrance would be dashing, worthy of a space pirate! What do you think?
EndlessForms |
Sounds good to me! Is everyone climbing down? You could also just dive (or belly-flop) into the water.
Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |
"I like this ring. It's like water wings but on your finger!" Francis says as he admires the silver band on his ring finger.
Francis casts Mage Armor on himself and jumps into the water. "Cannonball!"
I'm crazy!
Pudding follows suit and leaps into the water too. The human makes a small splash, but the yak seems to be like a bomb went off. The splash coats Xerxes and Karter with seawater.
Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
The two rise up to the surface and Francis waves at the group, a big smile on his face.
Xerxes of Aiur |
Diving sounds good! Tally-ho!
For Aiur!
The protoss drops into the ocean below, attempting a dive to arrive right on top of the sentinels, like an angel of death.
Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
EndlessForms |
Everyone decides to dive-bomb into the water! After the splashes subside, you see that four large-headed creatures stand in shock, guarding the entrance. The unsightly creature resembles a goblin from the waist up but a greasy octopus below.
grind: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Francis: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Xerxes: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Sh'yl: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Karter: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Initiative:
1. Sh'yl, Karter, and Xerxes
2. Octogoblins!
3. Francis
Sh'yl, Karter, and Xerxes are up!
DC 15 Swim check to tread as a move action.
Xerxes of Aiur |
Assuming that I dived with both blades active but that 5-ft steps aren't possible in water.
Xerxes spring from the water and stabs one of the octogoblins. The Red one.
Psyblade (cold iron), PA: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 1 = 181d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 2 = 7
KarϮer |
"Uh-uhh, no way man, I ain't diving off no cliff into no wat-", Karter shakes his head as Francis yanks him off by the collar , "aa--AAARHHH". Wilhelm scream
Swim: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Wading out of the water, foamy salt water dripping from his fro, he balks at Francis, "NOT COOL man! NOT COOL!" He yanks off the safety from the plasma grenade and hurls at a spot mid the octogobs.
Acl fire, surprise, throw anything: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 2 = 12 >>1d6 + 1 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 1 + (6, 2) = 10
Xerxes of Aiur |
Sorry, forgot about the swim check!
Swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
EndlessForms |
Xerxes dives into the water and resurfaces with his psyblades whirring, quickly taking down the aquatic guard! Sh'yl flounders and is unable to swim close enough but Karter hurls a grenade at the creatures! It completely explodes one of them and injures the other two!
The remaining octogoblins lurch forward and stab their spears at Xerxes!
spear: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
spear: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19

Their tentacles whip around the protoss and try to drag him under. (essentially a trip maneuver)
trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Lol on those trips!
Confirm:

Initiative:
1. Sh'yl, Karter, and Xerxes
2. Octogoblins!
3. Francis
You guys are up!
Xerxes of Aiur |
Wounded twice, Xerxes appears to feel no pain. He revels in the truth brought by this confrontation, retaliating with his blades forged of mental matter.
Psyblade (cold iron), PA: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 - 1 = 211d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 2 = 9
Psyblade (cold iron), PA: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 - 1 = 201d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
EndlessForms |
Xerxes seems to be a master of the waves and takes down the two creatures easily!
Out of combat!
The water becomes shallower, enough so that you can wade through with the water no higher than your knees in most places, ahead through the tunnel.
Xerxes of Aiur |
The protoss quickly checks the bodies to see if they have anything valuable, then checks the path, leading the group inside.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
EndlessForms |
The octogoblins had nothing valuable beyond their small spears. Heading inside, you find the eponymous cove; high cliff surround the deep cove which churns with dark seawater.
Deeper in, the cave system splits off in two different directions with narrow winding caves leading randomly about.
Xerxes of Aiur |
Xerxes takes point, leadins his companions on the rightmost path.
EndlessForms |
Xerxes leads the way to the right! The passages are narrow and rough-hewn but at least the water around your ankles is not too cold. However, as you round a corner and come into a smaller cavern you see that you have stumbled upon the nest of a purple, seven-armed octopoid monstrosity the size of a horse. It turns its cold, blue eyes to you and scoffs, "Intruders! You dare disturb my layer, I'll be gone with you!"

Your layer? What are you, an onion? Xerxes taunts telepathically before moving up to the creature and striking it.
Psyblade (cold iron), PA: 1d20 + 7 - 1 ⇒ (2) + 7 - 1 = 81d6 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6

About a minute later, Francis drags himself to the ledge. Pudding follows suit, mooing as he floats easily in the water.

The battle is over before either can react.

Withdraw action, 8 hp left.
Francis Ulhutch, Ex-Professor |
"Let's draw it back into the cavern!" Francis says as he retreats!
EndlessForms |
Yes, it's very tight spaces. Ranged attacks from the narrow corridor or one person in melee really. Or draw it out of there as Francis suggests.
Xerxes and Francis retreat back to where they have more maneuverability!
