Harold Henry Howard Higgins IV |
Being half-elf I'm not affected, correct?
Harold attempts awaken those that have fallen asleep!
Glub Glub, The Drowned Frog |
Will Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Glubby decides that a nap is the right course of action, so he pulls out his quickdraw pillow and falls asleep on the spot.
EndlessForms |
Yes, half-elves are immune to magical sleep effects. I forgot about that!
Harold kicks those nearest him 2d5 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7, Patches and Ursion. With no one sensible at the helm, the ship is closing in on the rocks, now no more than 30 feet away from the pinnacle and the siren flying near its precipice!
She dives down towards the boat, aiming for the tasty grippli.

Ursion Crispin |
Ursion takes a quick look around. If there's more than one charmed sailor on the tiller, he'll try to drop the anchor; otherwise, he'll try to get control of the ship.
Profession (Sailor) check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Glub Glub, The Drowned Frog |
"Glubby is gonna be food! Help Glubby!" the frog yells as he leaps to his feet and draws his net, trying to rope down the siren.
Net - Touch Attack: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 9 + 1 = 12
EndlessForms |
Ursion rushes over to the tiller where the two previously charmed sailors have fallen fast asleep. He pushes their bodies aside and steers the ship away from the treacherous rock. Meanwhile Harold hurriedly kicks everyone else awake. Glubby tosses up his net but the siren leaps away from it.
Initiative:
1. Harold and Ursion
2. Siren
3. Glubby, Patches, Shoallana
Patches and Shoallana are up!
Patches Sarsaparilla Whitepaw |
I think Patches is still asleep. If not, he will stand and cast an aggressive thundercloud at the Siren.
Electricity Damage - DC 15 reflex negates: 3d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6) = 10
School evocation [electricity]; Level druid 2, magus 2, sorcerer/wizard 2, witch 2
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M/DF (a piece of a tree struck by lightning)
Range medium (100 ft. + 10 ft./level)
Effect 5-ft.-diameter sphere
Duration 1 round/level
Saving Throw Reflex negates; Spell Resistance yes
A crackling, spherical storm cloud flies in whichever direction you point and deals electricity damage to those it strikes. It has a fly speed of 20 feet with perfect maneuverability. If it enters a space that contains a creature, the storm stops moving for the round and deals 3d6 points of electricity damage to that creature, though a successful Reflex save negates that damage. It provides concealment (20% miss chance) to anything within it, and its flickering light illuminates the same area a candle would.
The sphere moves as long as you actively direct it (as a move action for you); otherwise, it stays at rest and crackles with lightning. It can be moved by wind effects and counts as a Small creature for the purpose of determining how winds affect it. The sphere has no physical substance and cannot exert any force on corporeal creatures or objects. It disperses if it exceeds the spell's range.
EndlessForms |
Ref: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31
Shaken awake by the others, Patches and Shollana get to work fighting off the siren. The jolt of electricity only leaves a small burn wound though.
The siren retreats back up towards the pinnacle of the rock. Double-move 60' up.
Initiative:
1. Harold and Ursion
2. Siren (5 dmg)
3. Glubby, Patches, Shoallana
You guys are up!

OK, that sucked. Calling on Besmara's Blessing to reroll that:

A little better.

Gah! I knew I forgot to mark a buff in Hero Lab for one of my guys... this was it! Thanks!

Movement to ballista. Arcane point to imbue ballista (+1).

Shoallana's arrow and the oversized bolt from the ballista Patches fired send the siren tumbling down into the water....
Out of combat!
"Bring her in close, but nice and safe!" the Captain calls out, having finally made it out of her cabin. "Let's see what the b#+*# has brought in over the years! No doubt other ships were not as prepared as you lot!"
Indeed, it takes some climbing over the treacherous rock but you eventually find the siren's nest. Aside from a large quantity of fish bones, the nest contains a bottle of messages , a jeweled ivory comb worth 1150 gp, an intricate scrimshaw figurine of a sea hawk worth 200 gp and a collection of jewelry worth a total of 1550 gp.
Harold Henry Howard Higgins IV |
Ugh, I just realized I forgot to purchase a wand of CLW. I have the cash but I'm so used to using PPs to get it that I forgot.
Harold grimaces as he tends to his wounds. Who else is injured? Harold has two slots left for cure light wounds if someone needs them.
Shoallana |
Shoallana has a wand of CLW.
Shoallana nimbly leaps down to the beach and scrambles over the rocks to the creature's nest. Glancing over the items, she picks up the bottle and studies it.
Is there a cork, like it contains a message?
Patches Sarsaparilla Whitepaw |
With his cat's eyes narrowed and unreadable, Patches watches the Siren fall from the sky. If I had a pouch of pipeweed, and actually smoked the nasty stuff, I'd lite up a pipe right now.
As the others disembark to loot the Siren's lair, he stays on the ship, taking time to reload and ready the ballista for another shot, just in case. When the group returns with treasure he takes a fair share of jewelry, but expresses no interest in the other items.
EndlessForms |
It is apparently ununsed and does not currently have a message in it.
Having secured the siren's treasure, you head off back out to sea. Soon, rocky islets and a massive stone arch jut out of the ocean, causing the waters to churn and foam. The arch is taller than a ship's mast. Thick chains hang from the arch, and corpses dangle several body-lengths from the top. The island coast is only a short row from the arch, but only a few short stretches of beach are accessible along the rocky shoreline. A cave is visible on the shoreline; the ocean water flows freely in and out of it.
"Blackwarn's Gallows!" Varossa declares as you near this structure. "The Besmarans execute heretics and religious malefactors. If I'm not mistaken that one there is Captain Rahil Harkalm. That crazy Rahadoumi took his nation's atheism to an extreme, vehemently hating all gods, priests, and religions. He murdered every priest on the ships he captured. Eventually his crew turned him over to a temple and it has been made known that no one should try to recover his body."
"Now, if all is as it should be, Rahil's piece of the Three Reasons to Live is hidden in his peg leg. I'll need you to retrieve it. You'll need to row up the coast. Careful, there could be beasts there. And be respectful just on the chance that Besmarans are nearby."
Glub Glub, The Drowned Frog |
"Sounds completely reasonable to me." quips Glubby as she mentions the man's execution.
He scowls as she mentions that he has to go retrieve something from the man's body.
Harold Henry Howard Higgins IV |
That's reasonable? Well, he doesn't need his pegleg anymore and its really not part of his body, exactly. I guess we can do that. Let's go.
Glub Glub, The Drowned Frog |
"You should never go against the wishes of the Mistress of the Deep." Glubby states reverently.
EndlessForms |
As you near the arch, the treacherous waters become even more turbulent but you quickly realize that this is not the motion of the sea, but rather something beneath the water nearing your small rowboat! Soon a hulking mix of ogre and crab has one huge pincer reaching out for the side of the boat, its other arm a twisted humanlike hand!
The pincer reaches out for Ursion!

Harold casts Liberating Command so that Ursion might work his way free!
If he's not actually grabbed I'll try something else, I'll wait and see though.
Glub Glub, The Drowned Frog |
Glubby steps forward, draws his rapier and net before striking out at the giant crab. "Time for a crab pot for dinner, guys!"
Net - SWF | On Deck of Ship: 1d20 + 9 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 1 = 19 10’ range increment; 10’ reach; Touch Attack
Entangled on hit; -2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty on Dexterity, can move at only half speed, and cannot charge or run. If you control the trailing rope by succeeding on an opposed Strength check while holding it, the entangled creature can move only within the limits that the rope allows. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make a concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell. An entangled creature can escape with a DC 20 Escape Artist check (a full-round action). The net has 5 hit points and can be burst with a DC 25 Strength check (also a full-round action). A net is useful only against creatures within one size category of you.
Patches Sarsaparilla Whitepaw |
"Claw meat is the best part." Patches says as he whips out his sword and weaves it in a complex arcane form, drawing electricity into the blade before slashing at the crab monster.

Ursion was injured; he took full damage from the siren's sonic attack, so he was down 21. And now he's down another 14 from the claw hit.
Escape Artist check due to liberating command: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 - 1 = 20
And he's still held fast.
Ursion studies the peculiar creature, then slashes at it with a kukri.
