Oxirane |
Ready to go, but I'll be fairly busy the next couple of days, you know...
EndlessForms |
You guys earned quite a bit of influence (just shy of the maximum tier actually) so this should make the upcoming encounter easier, as it means the Averakans have sent plenty of additional aid to help you (i.e. the abstracted troops have higher HP so they can stay in the fight longer).
The Little Thunder comes to a sudden stop at a crude dam, built with mud, stones, and logs. Muddy water trickles through the dam and drifts sluggishly to the north. A small stone outpost on the east bank of the river has been heavily damaged, its outside walls chipped and scraped.
A group of hill giants defends the dam. The hill giant dire werebear Tulgra and a pair of trained rocs assist in the defense. A loud warcry goes up from the Averakan troops, answered by a harsh bellow from the giants.
giants: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Siruss: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Buckwheat: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Bizzle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
George: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Oxirane: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Baaldryn: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Initiative:
1. Baaldryn, Siruss, and Oxirane
2. Giants
3. Buckwheat, George, and Bizzle
Baaldryn, Siruss, and Oxirane are up!
Map is linked at the top.
Oxirane |
Would we have recognized the giants' presence soon enough to do some buffing before making ourselves known? Also, did the alchemists hand me any extracts for today?
Buckwheat Rainbow |
Extracts Buckwheat would have shared ahead of time, all CL 10:
- Shield -> Oxirane
- Shield -> Siruss
- True Strike -> Baaldryn
- Fluid Form -> Oxirane
What is the expected travel time from the dam to the ruins? I've got some medium to long term buffs to put up depending on travel timing and possibility of warning ahead of the giants.
Baaldryn Ozemson |
should have had the GM roll for me to influence the elders...
Baaldryn prepares himself for the journey and eventual combat and then spends time before departure talking to and inspecting the half orc troops sent with the party on the mission.
Upon seeing the hill giant horde, Baaldryn gives a short prayer to Iomedae, casts BLESS upon the party, draws his falchion and readies himself for combat...
casts bless for the benefit of the half orc troops/ cant open the map right now
George Demonspawn |
I wonder if there is time for another hit of Angel's Trumpet... George wonders as he travels with the other Pathfinders and half-orcs through the countryside.
Mr. Chips reads George's mind and conks him on the head. "You're right... of course there is time!"
The monkey jumps off the assassin and skulks into the shadows, tired of his obstinate master.
"Hmm... the effects and aftereffects are becoming weaker after every passing day however. Probably not much longer until I'm immune to the stuff..." George muses aloud as he looks for his mind-altering substances pouch.
It is in this moment that the party is beset by giants.
Damn...
Siruss |
Holy smoke, that's a big map!
Siruss bobs his head, praising Master Buckwheat for his kindness in sharing his alchemical remedies, but not before he ensures that this, too, is a free sample.
Siruss limps along ahead, working to keep pace with Baaldryn, while calling out the obvious.
"GIANTSSSSS!"
He then curses his nagaji followers for once again always disappearing when hostilities break out, but then catches himself as he realizes they have also taken all his trade goods out of harm's reach.
Double moved ahead, drawing weapon as part of the move.
Oxirane |
Oxirane takes a moment to concentrate until his skin hardens, then runs toward the giants.
Barkskin ki power, then move. FYI, I have a +4 dodge bonus to AC vs. giants, not listed in my header.
EndlessForms |
Yes, you could have probably put up some longer buffs before arriving. The trek to the ruins is another four hours.
Baaldryn blesses the army and the party as everyone moves forward to engage the giants.
Two of the hill giants pick up boulders and fling them across the dam, aiming for Oxirane and Baaldryn. The other two also pick up large rocks but aim for the Averakan army.
rock at Oxirane: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
rock at Baaldryn: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
damage: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
rock at Averakans: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
hit for 1 damage
rock at Averakans: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
hit for 1 damage
The rocs fly out to either side of the dam, waiting to swoop in on attackers.
Tulgra, part bear and part giant, moves out to the edge of the dam and hurls a rock at Oxirane.
rock: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
damage: 1d8 + 16 ⇒ (1) + 16 = 17
The Averakan army begin to fire across the rift, focusing their ammunition on the giants. Not only do many of the arrows hit the giants, but some of the soldiers have had the ingenious idea of tying strings to their neighbor's arrow, creating a weave of netting from the many arrows and entangling the four hill giants.

Bizzle Goodwager |
Bizzle casts Haste on the party! Hopefully before Baaldryn could move so he can benefit. I would have cast [i]Mage Armor on myself beforehand as well.
Buckwheat Rainbow |
Long term buff ahead of time...
"Whoa, any of you guys tired of geometry of the world getting in your way, want all open your minds eye and keep all your foes in front of you? Then drink this."
2 identical mystery surprise buffs for melee characters, first come first serve.
Countless Eyes - 10 Hours
The target sprouts extra eyes all over its body, including on the back of its head. It gains all-around vision and cannot be flanked.
In the present...
Seeing this combat is going to take place at a distance Buckwheat Rainbow moves up while drinking a Bomber's Eye
Siruss |
Siruss would quaff Buck's eye-opening offering, but he'd also give it up to Ox or Baal.
Siruss continues to hobble ahead, favoring one leg more than another, albeit much faster thanks to Bizzle's magic.
"GIANTSSSS! SSSSSTOP throwing boulders! Come ssssswing your clubsssss!"
Another double move, although I probably should've done a Run action last round in a straight line...
Oxirane |
I'm pretty sure I was outside the haste when it went off. And I forgot last round: swift action, go into Dragon Style.
Wary of the the rock barrage, Oxirane moves to close the distance between himself and the giants.
"Alchemists, keep those birds off of me!"
George Demonspawn |
Mr. Chips will take that Haste to enjoy his newfound Mauler abilities! :D
George feels the arcane magic surge through him, giving him heightened speed and reaction time as Mr. Chips bounds along side of him, growing in size until he is roughly George's height.
George pulls an extract from his pack and downs it on the run, letting his own skin get rougher and more tree-like. "I figure they can carry you away and we won't have to deal with them!" George responds, half in jest.
Barkskin
Bizzle Goodwager |
Depends on where you started. I did move up before casting and I believe it has a 45' range. If I had to.
George Demonspawn |
@Bizzle: All creatures must be within 30' of each other when you cast Haste, despite the range of Haste being 45' for you.
EndlessForms |
Everyone prepares for the battle ahead....
Hmm, the map showed the rocs as huge but their stats say gargantuan. That's a big bird!
The rocs fly past each other as they bite at Oxirane on their way past. Flyby attack. 15' reach so no AoO.

Baaldryn moves forward getting as close to the monk as he can while spending a blessing from his diety to make his falchion Holy (Warpriest Blessing- Good)
Siruss |
Round 3
Siruss continues to hastily hobble ahead before pointing a scaly finger at one of the giants (red).
"YOU! KILL friend! Do it now, yessssss!"
Murderous Command, DC18 Will. Will use an immediate/swift from next round to force a re-roll (misfortune) if GM rolls 15+ on dice since we may be seeing a dam collapse otherwise...

Going to assume that the bird has me grappled, thus I can't be tripped by the dam.
George dodges a talon and a bite from the roc, but ends up getting snatched by the other claw. He grunts as the talons dig into his flesh. "You'll pay for that bird..."

If the Roc goes down, Buckwheat will stop throwing bombs.
Bizzle Goodwager |
Bizzle gasps as he sees his friend fall from the sky, wishing he were close enough to help! I have Feather Fall but George is out of range. Instead, Bizzle strikes the roc with Magic Missile! Just use the rolls from before, 10 damage.
Per our previous discussion I'm going to forgo the Toppling MM if it is ruled that it doesn't seem to do anything to the roc.
EndlessForms |
Fort: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24
Oxirane gives Tulgra quite a beating but somehow the resilient werebear is still standing. Meanwhile, Buckwheat and Bizzle work together to take down the roc!

Baaldryn Ozemson |
earlier post was in a different game. got confused with characters.
Baaldryn takes a step back, offers a prayer to his goddess and casts Holy Smite and directs the burst at the back square of the blue bordered foe (20 foot burst should still hit the lead foe and not the LN dwarf). DMG: 5d8 ⇒ (7, 7, 2, 1, 5) = 22... plus blinded for 1 round...A successful Will saving throw DC18 reduces damage to half and negates the blinded effect.
SR check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Siruss tilts his head to the side again, his yellow eyes narrowing at another giant.
"You... giant! Come to Sirusssssss."

George Demonspawn |
George falls from the bird with a giant splash as the roc plummets next to him, incinerated and blasted by Bizzle and Buckwheat.
Swim: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (9) - 1 = 8
Floundering in the water, George's mask automatically activates, letting him breathe normally. Bubbles rise to surface as he seraches for a Cure Light Wounds extract in his pack.
---
Mr. Chips reverts to his smaller form as he runs and leaps onto Buckwheat's shoulder, pointing at the giants breaking the dam. "Ook!"
EndlessForms |
@Buckwheat: sorry, it only took the first three. Looks like you are too far to redirect to someone else (safely) but you've got that bomb back for the day!

Buckwheat Rainbow |
After only throwing 1 bomb at a time for the first 8 levels, it feels weird to burn through them this fast.
Buckwheat begins quickly walking along the ridge before taking a sharp turn off the edge. Rather than falling Buckwheat does not believe that gravity is an irrefutable law and merely walks across the air to the other side.
Double move, using sandals of the lightest step to gain airwalk as a swift.
Buckwheat also pets the monkey on her shoulder.
Baaldryn Ozemson |
Baaldryn charges the Hill Giant with his Falchion ready to skewer the foe...
Charge ATK: 1d20 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 16 + 2 = 29...DMG: 1d10 + 17 ⇒ (8) + 17 = 25
