Kudor |
I thought not having technologist made them untrained knowledge checks which maxed them out at 10. If there's a DC increases by 5 option I know a lot of people who will be very happy.
EndlessForms |
Oh I was thinking of something else. Maybe Tek was too.
Knowledge (engineering): This is the most important skill with regard to technological subjects. Knowledge (engineering) can be used to identify a robot’s abilities and weaknesses. Knowledge (engineering) is also used to identify and understand unknown technological objects in a similar manner to how Spellcraft is used to identify the properties of a magic item. The DC to correctly identify and understand an unknown technological object is equal to the object’s Craft DC. An object with a Craft DC of 15 or less can be automatically identified and understood by someone trained in Knowledge (engineering) who also has the Technologist feat.
Nikomedes Diogenes |
In case Niko can make the checks.
KN: engineering: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (18) + 8 + (2) = 28
KN: engineering: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 8 + (2) = 24
KN: engineering: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 8 + (1) = 11
KN: engineering: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (16) + 8 + (3) = 27
Niko waits to see if he can aid the robot in repairing the damage.
EndlessForms |
Those that Niko doesn't identify can be ID'd by Tig-O: flash grenade, timeworn flashlight, timeworn brown force field, two zero grenades.
Tig-O begins a long catalog of the supplies and steps necessary to fix the walls. Remember you have better things to do than fix the walls. You should probably get him (and yourselves) back on task. Diplomacy to get him to do so.
Maps |
"Tig-O, I heard something's wrong down further in the Forge. The walls can wait." Maps tries to get the robot moving again, but he's just too soft-spoken.
Diplomacy Aid: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
Bizzle Goodwager |
Umm, I'm sure this is all terribly important and all that, but we really do have better things to do, don't you agree? Bizzle hopes to get the robot back on the proper task.
Diplo: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21
EndlessForms |
Tig-O pauses, apparently processing the new information. "Affirmative. Further investigation required before repair scheduling should begin." Tig-O turns abruptly from the hole in the wall and starts marching down, leading the way through the bored-out shortcuts.
At the end of the corridor is another lift. Touching a panel just inside the door of this lift causes the chamber to descend approximately 100 feet to its lower level. Another series of descending switchbacks greets you as you exit the lift, and someone has bored another tunnel through these walls, granting quick access to the lower levels. As with the staircases above, Tig-0 refuses to take the shortcut to circumvent these ramps until you convince him to do so.
You can see from the map an overview of where you are. There is a door that seems to lead to a small room on the upper level of the sloping hallway and a door at the end of the ramp, at the very bottom.
Bizzle Goodwager |
Err, would it be quicker to go this way, my friend? Bizzle tries to lead the robot on the faster path.
Diplo: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (18) + 15 = 33
EndlessForms |
"Affirmative. The walls will be fixed but in the interim they will serve as a shorter route." Tig-O starts descending through the bored-out holes in the walls.
Nikomedes Diogenes |
Niko follows after Tig, keeping an eye out for traps and such.
Perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 +2 more for traps, trapspotter.
Still looking: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15
Too busu following Tig-0: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
EndlessForms |
No one seemed to pick up on my queue that you might be missing a door at the top but I'll assume you check it before heading down:
Unintelligible red symbols flank the door of this small room. The door is locked with a technolgoical lock (-5 penalty to DD unless you use an e-pick).
Bizzle Goodwager |
Hmm, is there a way to get this door open, my new friend? Bizzle looks a bit perplexed at the technology.
Nikomedes Diogenes |
Niko heads back up the tunnel to examine the door. "Tig-0, do you have a way to access this door?"
Niko gives the door a try, after checking it for traps.
Perception T20: 20 + 15 = 35
Disable: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
EndlessForms |
This lock seems quite difficult for Niko, especially as he doesn't not have the proper tools.
"Negative," Tig-O answers. "Incorrect authorization level."
Bizzle Goodwager |
Oh, well how do we get the correct authorization level then? Surely there is something you can do.
Maps |
Maps approaches the locked door and fiddles with the lock a little to see how it works, then offers a little advice to Nikomedes. "You try this?"
If it would help, Maps can auto-aid disable device to give Nik a +2 bonus.
EndlessForms |
DC 30 to get it open and you guys have a -5 to your check for not having an e-pick. So it's possible if Niko takes 20.
Eventually Niko is able to get the door open. You find several items that Tig-O is able to identify for you: a timeworn filter mask, a pair of timeworn magboots, an inssuit, and 3 doses of cureall.
Maps |
Maps raises an eyebrow as he examines the suit. Bizzle must have been reading his thoughts. Though his mithril shirt offers better protection from conventional weapons, the suit might offer more against the dangers of the Red Redoubt. He gives the others a questioning look.
EndlessForms |
The southern edge of this rectangular room is damaged, offering an obscured view of vertical red lights that suggest a massive, bottomless, circular chamber beyond. A wire mesh catwalk encircles most of the room, accessible by three ladders and a staircase. Discarded scrap sits in tall piles around the room, casting long shadows to the west, and two long tables stand in the center of the floor with various components spilled across their surfaces. The piles part to the east around a circular, fifteen-foot-wide pit. A large button stands by the pit's edge. At the eastern extreme of the catwalk, a wide, metallic red slab serves as a door.
Each scrap pit contains hundreds of pounds of material, provides cover, is about five feet tall, anca can be scaled as though it were difficult terrain with aDC 15 Acrobatics check.
The 15-foot-wide, 20-foot-deep pit emits a red glow. Three aquat, brass-skinned humanoids occupy the room, bickering in Ignan as they strip valuable components. Heat ripples the air near them and their heads and shoulders blaze with a mane of fire.
Able to channel heat through metal weapons and tools, azers almost never use nonmetallic weapons, and usually engage in close melee rather than using ranged attacks. Azers frequently take prisoners, bringing them back to their fortresses and forcing them to labor for a year and a day.
Immune to fire, vulnerable to cold, and they have spell resistance.
Two of them on the ground are having a heated argument when you enter.
Suddenly, a horrible grinding and screeching sound fromt he catwalk drowns out conversation as the third one takes a functioning chainsaw to the husk of a disabled repair drone.
The two that were arguing on the ground have progressed into an actual fistfight and none seem to have noticed you. Over the din of the chainsaw, however, Tig-O says to you, "Repair drones: dismantle aggressively malfunctioning robots at earliest convenience."

Looking over at his companion, Giradoux says, "Get them, Rowles, stop them before they do too much damage."
Rowles the dragonkin |

Maps |
@GM: Could Maps wear the insuit over his mithril chain shirt? Neither has an armor check penalty.
Maps pops the seal on a small flask, and quickly drinks the contents. Almost instantly his movements become fluid and graceful, his balance enhanced as the mutagen takes effect. His skin seems to tighten, giving his narrow features a hard, predatory look.

@Maps: no, it is essentially a piece of armor and you can only wear one suit of armor at a time.
Bizzle makes your presence known by sending a missile flying at the chainsaw-wielding azer! Giradoux hastens everyone as Rowles rushes into the room. Niko shields himself, Maps drinks an elixir, and Kudor studies the room.

Endless Forms, do you count charging as a straight line (i.e. I put a piece of paper down and there's nothing between me and it) or a STRAIGHT LINE (I must move in a line of squares that is perfectly staright)?
Giradoux races into the room and attacks the fiery creature that attacked Rowles,

The grid lines should never be limiting in making a charge, if that's what you mean. In real life I don't follow a grid when I walk or run. I've never understood that ruling. However, something else is preventing you from charging:
Each scrap pit contains hundreds of pounds of material, provides cover, is about five feet tall, and can be scaled as though it were difficult terrain with a DC 15 Acrobatics check.
Niko moves into the room, followed closely by Giradoux. Kudor tries to hit the azer but it dodges away from his shield!

The grinding sound from below (from when the azer stomped on the button) grows louder as the pit nearby rises, bringing a seething mass of bubbling molten rock with it! The blob of magma moves towards Rowles and slams the eidolon!
