The skald takes up a song as the group comes to a rest, telling the tale of the sea snake--a creature that lies in wait, lets its prey approach, lets its prey all but sink in their teeth, then strikes in when its prey is least prepared, least guarded, least expectant. She gazes directly at the halfling as she sings. Bluff (Pass Secret Messages, Versatile Performance): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

When the tale is done, she sidles over to Gima. "Wait," she whispers. "We have a plan. You will be free soon. Wait until we're inside."

Glad not to be in irons this time, Graz watches the actions of the prisoners but watches the gnoll slaver even more carefully. He looks for the head man, but has a hard time discerning much about the strange hyena-creatures.

He watches the rest of his companions also, making sure none are too mistreated, or are giving other signals.

Gima takes a deep breath and nods at Sundr. She lays back and tries to take a nap while she has the chance.

On the morning of the third day of travel, a roc flies high overhead, casting its shadow across the group. The gnolls seem worried and order the prisoners to hustle for the remainder of the trip. Everyone needs to make a DC 16 Fort save or take 1d6 points of nonlethal damage and become fatigued.

No we do not! Sündr begins a rhythmic chant which helps the group keep an even but quickened cadence. Using the necessary rounds of raging song to get us to the fort with a song of marching. GM, please let me know how many hours of hustling we do. I will consider the other slaves (and Graz) as allies, but not the gnolls.

Song of Marching details:
From the ACG: "At 3rd level, a skald can use raging song to inspire his allies to move faster without suffering from fatigue. By expending 1 round of raging song, the skald invigorates allies within 60 feet, who may hustle for the next hour; this movement counts as a walk (not a hustle) for the purpose of accruing nonlethal damage and fatigue. The skald must continue to perform the song for the remainder of the hour, otherwise its effects end, but only 1 round of raging song is expended for that hour."

Awww, and here I thought my Endurance feat was going to actually come in handy for once, lol. The only reason I have it is for a prestige class, hehe.

Naiar hustles along next to the halfling and continues to remain stoic, his mind mostly pointing inwards to file through his many bits of knowledge and occasionally giving a quick smile and a single "Heh" everytime he thinks of something funny or unusual. Fort DC 16, just in case: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 missed it by THAT much...

Graz approaches the gnoll slaver nearest him, "Why does the roc in the sky worry you so much? What does it portend?"

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Very cool!

And yeah, it's a shame the Endurance stuff doesn't come up more often, at least not in PFS. In homegames it can be a lifesaver if your GM likes using environmental effects.

Unfortunately the scenario doesn't specify how long the trip is (it just says "for the remainder of the trip") but the hustling happens in the morning and it describes the day-time guards at the Fort so I'm going to say 4 hours of hustling.

---

On arriving at the gate, a female gnoll in the watchtower shouts down to the ones escorting you.

Gnoll:
“You missed it! Chief finally ran the veiled lady off! We’re gonna celebrate tonight with her best wine!”

Even those who don’t speak Gnoll can tell that she’s in a good mood and might catch her use of the Common word “wine.”

On your way in, you observe that the entrance is guarded by an iron portcullis which leads into the bailey, where stands the guardtower. B1

The gnolls lead you into the fort and tell you to drop the chest in the next room, which features several hyena pens. B2

After dropping off the chest, the gnolls direct you to the slave pens, which consists of a single long room with several bunk beds against the back wall, a pair of buckets in the corner, and a heavy wood door that can be barred from outside. B3

A Kelishite man wearing a pale linen scarf about his head and an excessively wide grin on his face, resides here with two other slaves (not including the new arrivals). As soon as the door is locked from the outside, the Kelishite man speaks up.

“Welcome! I am Korshad, overseer for our masters. Though I wear a collar, you’ll find it’s best to do as I say! Now, they lock us in at night when they go hunting, but mostly we have the run of the place, nearly as much liberty as the hyenas. You’ll be trained to be excellent house slaves, then taken back to the ships to be sold to nice noble families. It may seem harsh, but if you take to it, it’s probably a better life than you were used to before. Meanwhile you should get some rest and we can begin your lessons in the morning. As the proverb says, ‘When the day is hottest, even the busy must rest and wait.’”

And then the one time you don't think about it, you're stuck in a Winter's Reign AP with a gunslinger PFS character who takes nonlethal every 2 hours which knocks him out, lol.

After hearing the door become barred from the outside, Naiar gets with his fellow Pathfinders and whispers among them. "What should we do about this Keleshite? Tonight should be a good night as ever to break out while they're gone, don't you think?"

He reaches into his pocket to feel his shrunken longspear, ready to get this mission over with so he can get back to taking care of Boots.

Also, sorry, but I forgot to mention something earlier: any animal companions or familiars would not have been allowed in with the slaves. They are locked up in the room with the cages.

On the other hand, he would rather work in a temple than a slavers' compound and misses his clerical duties to the Dawnflower. "Fine. I'm in. Let's get out of here."

After a few moments, you are able to pick the mechanism on the door to let yourselves out. The next circular room contains the kennels but also the chest with all of your gear, which lies in the center of the chamber. To the side a shattered wooden box and several dozen scraps of sodden, torn paper lie scattered across the floor.

A hyena, which seem oddly malformed or mutated, guards the chamber and growls as the door swings open unexpectedly.

gm rolls:

Initiative:

1. Ruprecht, Naiar, Kalendir, Xerance, (Graz), Sundr
2. Hyenas

You guys are up!

@Graz: You will hear the commotion and be able to react on round 3.

DC 14 KN (nature):
The hyaenodon, sometimes called the short-faced hyena is a slightly larger relative of the common hyena. Hyaenodons (and hyenas) are generally thought of as scavengers but, in fact, most are skilled hunters quite capable of taking down large prey. When food is scarce, hyaenodons cover large areas individually in search of food, relying primarily on their sense of smell to locate potential prey.

These ones seem mutated to heal themselves unless dealt fire or acid damage. They also seem sensitive to light.

YAY BOOTS!

Naiar redacts half of his adventure, adding Boots to the mission and having him come along without his armor (I’m assuming) and forced into a cage.

Naiar pushes his way through the door, allowing everyone a path outside as he moves around the left side against the wall, pointing his magical longspear at the large beast. ”Watch out, that’s a.... I don't know what it is, blast it!” Unable to affect an unintelligent creature with his curse, he lets the random bits of knowledge flow from his mind as he grips his spear and stabs at the large hyena-like creature.

Sündr begins a rousing chant, filling the chamber with the throaty melody of an Ulfen war song. Although the words are of the far northern Ulfen language, its rhythm and magic fills the party with adrenaline--making them capable of great feats of strength and endurance.

Activating Raging Song as a standard action as I move around to the northeast. Each ally chooses to accept the raging song (or not) as a free action at the start of their turn, on a turn by turn basis (so you can switch on and off). Here are the details:
+2 morale bonus to Strength
+2 morale bonus to Constitution, and therefore +1 HP per level
+1 morale bonus to Will saves
-1 penalty to Armor Class
Unlike normal rage, there is no fatigue at the conclusion

Please state at the start of your turn (each round) whether you are accepting the song's magic!

GM: please note that Sündr also gains Fast Healing 2 starting next round, and that my Rage stats are in a spoiler on my header.

GM EF: Graz would hear the commotion and know what's going on. He would do what he could to either a) distract the gnoll guards or b) take them on to slow them down so his friends had a fighting chance. Does either of those seem feasible even in the early rounds?

Ah, yes, thanks for reminding me: under the song, you cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration. But again, if you can switch in/out round by round if you plan on using such skills sometimes but not always.

Oh! And I didn't even notice you're a barbarian. This will be of interest: "If an ally has her own rage class ability (such as barbarian's rage, bloodrager's bloodrage, or skald's inspired rage), she may use the Strength, Constitution, and Will saving throw bonuses, as well as AC penalties, based on her own ability and level instead of those from the skald (still suffering no fatigue afterward)." So basically, you use your stats but don't suffer fatigue and don't consume rounds of rage (because I supply them).

@Graz: the waiting two rounds is for the gnolls to even notice the commotion. If you want to delay them longer, you can make Bluff checks or take some other strategy, sure.
