Maps easily grabs Alie and starts to drag her, but then she starts trying to cast a spell!
DC 23 Defensive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
A ray of negative energy shoots out at Maps! This is a ranged attack so it provokes, except I'm guessing Maps didn't have a weapon in hand when he was dragging her.

"I'm sorry, Maps! I don't know what's going on...I can't even cast a spell like that! Something's taken control of me..."
Fendahl Silvermane |
Fendahl digs through his pack to pull out the potion of prot.v.evil
"MAPS! Are you ok? Get back. Master Wreck, do you want to try and pin her down, and I will see if I can force her to drink the potion? Or try to knock the spirit out of her as you suggest?"
Wreck |
"Wreck help!"

Sir Terramor the Blue Knight |
Seeing that the others have the grappling well in hand, Sir Terramor moves to protect the doll that allegedly houses Alie's soul. He scoops up the little figurine and shelters it behind his shield.
"What manner of evil is this?" he demands. "What curse besets us?"

Alie tries desperately to break free!

Wreck pins Alie to the ground with Maps' assistance. As the party readies to force-feed her a potion, her eyes roll back into her head and her body stops struggling.
Alie Saechel |
Alie tries to call out, but with Wreck and Maps on top of her she could only whisper. "I'm back...I think. And the two of you are very heavy," she groans, trying to smile as she does so.
Fendahl Silvermane |
Fendahl stops as Alie speaks.
"Hrmmm, are you sure it is really you, Alie? We want to make sure after what happened to Master Maps over there."
He turns his attention to Maps.
"Master Maps, I am not much of a healer, but that seems to have injured you beyond what we may be able to resolve."

@Sir Terramor: it's a life-sized mannequin, similar to Badru. Speaking of which, he fell to pieces and you can crush him up. . . maybe his gem. . . .
Maps |
I was wondering about that gem. Wasn't listed among Badru's items so I didn't follow up on it - probably should have in retrospect.
Going back to Badru's remains, Maps takes out his handaxe, flips it around and hammers Badru's gem against the stone floor.
EndlessForms |
The gem shatters and a whispy green smoke escapes, slowly dissipating into the atmosphere.
Where to now?

Alie leads the way down the hall to the south to the first set of doors. A small bed, a workbench, and several hanging blueprints occupy this room.
Alie Saechel |
Alie keeps her Detect Magic spell current and active while exploring. She looks at the blueprints. "Do these make sense to anyone? I can't make heads or tails out of them."

Knowledge Engineering: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 8 - 4 = 14
Maps shakes his head. The effects of the enervating spell weigh heavily on him, and though he has studied such schematics before, he has a hard time sorting out his thoughts.
Negative levels are painful. Maps has -4 to everything and his current max HP are also effected, putting him at 44.
EndlessForms |
Yeah, Maps got hit pretty hard with that spell. They are temporary, but that just means you get a save against them in 24 hours. If you get restoration cast before then it will be cheaper. If you take you chances and fail the save so that they become permanent, it becomes much more expensive.
Fendahl Silvermane |
"Hrrrmm, any sign of the missing portal? With Badru destroyed, who else may be working down here?"
Fendahl and Kirrah will move a bit further down the hall.
EndlessForms |
Fendahl leads the way down the hall and into a large domed chamber supported by a central pillar. Luminous glyphs cover the central pillar, providing dim illumination in the room. A large glass golem and a wood golem guard the room.

Alie Saechel |
"Ooooh goodness, this isn't good at all! The glass thing appears to be an invincible glass golem, meaning it has significant resistance to all energies and DR that requires epic weapons. It can reflect spells as if by spell turning and is immune to spell-resistant magic except for shatter, which treats the glass golem as if it were crystalline, and cold magic which slows the golem. Fire damage heals the golem, however. You all are going to simply have to try and beat it to pieces! Keep it away from the wood golem, and I can try to fireball that one..."
"Speaking of that, Adamantine weapons work best against wood golems. They splinter and release a barrage of splinters from their bodies and they are immune to spell-resistance magic except for warp wood or wood shape as well as repel wood. Cold damage heals them but they are vulnerable to fire."
A bit confused by the wood golem, DM. Can fire magic effect it, since it is vulnerable to fire, even though it is immune to spell resistant magic?
Fendahl Silvermane |
Fendahl draws his katana as he moves. He calls Kirrah to the side of the room and casts Greater Magic Fang on the lioness. Kirrah will ready to bite if an enemy approaches.
EndlessForms |
@Fendahl: Most people roll readied attacks ahead of time so when they go off the GM has the roll waiting for them rather than having to wait for the readied person to respond.
@Alie: Fire magic that doesn't allow spell resistance or normal fire or fire from things such as a flaming weapon. Fireball allows spell resistance and will not affect it, at least as I understand their ability.
