Used my Recall ability on Terril to reroll the Kn check with a +3 bonus!

That's one of those "GM-discretion" things. I usually don't allow it since I think Knowledge checks are supposed to represent what you know. Other GMs allow it under certain circumstances, calling it "brainstorming". I can understand their argument but it's one of those things I've just (somewhat arbitrarily) chosen to draw a line on in order to be consistent.

Thanks, Cadaecus, but I doubt I'll roll better, so I'll stick with the first roll. With the bonus from EF based on previous play with him, I at least make the lower DC.

Terrill looks at Bizzle and says, "We've been in a place like this before, Bizz, also in Nidal." turning to the rest of the Pathfinders, he says, "We have passed into a different plane - what they call a demiplane, most likely. It feels like another time I entered one - it's related to the Plane of Shadow in some way, so lights, and light spells, are dimmed and harder to cast but shadow spells are more powerful. And last time there were lots of fetchlings and other shadow creatures. I don't know if the same will be true here."

Terrill ventures further into the room, finding that by a stream of shadowy ichor and a small arched bridge. He finds that when he tries to turn back towards the exit, the chains move and stiffen to prevent his exit.

Looking across the bridge Terrill can see the rest of the room beyond: At the end of this macabre hall, a desiccated humanoid husk stands propped up by chains. Dozens of hooks of all sizes dig into its flesh, suspending the frail looking corpse a few inches above a throne of rusted iron like some corpse marionette. Its head hangs limp against its chest.

As soon as Terrill and Bizzle approach, a dry coughing breath escapes the man, sending ripples of motion up and down the chains that suspend him. Ancient, empty eyes lift to see who disturbs his rest, though he can barely to lift his head and can only speak in a rattling whisper. His voice carries out to the pair of approaching adventurers, "I am the horselord Telendrak, the last chieftain to defy Zon-Kuthon, and a prisoner for more than 9,000 years. My companions and I have come to stop an evil group, the Onyx Alliance, from breaking in here and stealing the obsidian obelisk. Though I must confess, I thought we were safeguarding a tomb, not a prison."

EF - are we close enough that the others can hear us through the chains? I don't want to be rude and shout over my shoulder to them while waiting for a 9,000-year-old guy to answer. Terrill doesn't tend to show a lot of respect for age, but this is a pretty extreme case.

The man's voice suddenly becomes powerful as he shouts, "I AM TELENDRAK!" He looks up to the chains hanging above him. "I said I am Telendrak. It doesn’t need to come. I obeyed."

He grows calm again, frail and desperate as before, "Always, we’ve always been here. The horselord Telendrak came to the Cairn of Shadows in the time of darkness, and before true darkness descended on the land called Nidal. That’s what the last Telendrak said."

The chains above his throne go up much higher and you may be able to reach a higher level by climbing them (but the GM does not advise that route). There is a passage behind you on the north side of the chamber. The chains will not block you if you head back that way.

Unlike the areas near it, this wide hall has no chains within. Rough, uneven stairs run from landing to landing. There is the scent of old blood, and disturbing stains mark the walls. A single black wooden door sits at the end of the run of stairs.

Hawk notes that the last landing at the end of the hall contains a pit trap that he is easily able to disable.

However, the party finds that the door at the end of the hall only opens on solid stone. . .

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Terrill and Hailey find no hidden doors in the hallway but, working their way around, they find a secret door to the left of the throne:

This large chamber is more than twenty feet wide and thirty long. Two walls have black wooden doors set in them, each tall enough to allow an ogre to pass through. Spiked chains fill the chamber, stretching upward endlessly. Dozens of corpses hang from the chains, cruel looking hooks dig deeply into flesh, suspending the bodies several feet from the ground. Some of them appear to be the subjects of extensive unnecessary surgeries with chains, hooks, or spikes replacing limbs. The faint rasping of labored breathing fills the room.

The bodies hanging from hooks in this room all seem alive, but most are actually dead, only retaining the semblance of life due to the nature of the demiplane. Only two of the bodies here are truly alive, and they are both in training to be the next horselord chieftain when the current Telendrak dies. They can both answer questions much as the current horselord does. They are weak and starved, weighing no more than 100 pounds each, and are too frail to move at any pace more than a slow shuffle should they be removed form their chains.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Heading through the door to the west in the room full of bodies, the party finds two other smaller rooms. The first is empty but the second is seems to be a disposal: Blood, rusted chains, and corpses cover the floor of this room. It smells of rot and cold blood and the air is heavy with moisture seeping from rent body parts.

I won't make everyone roll to get up the chains; you can get up there eventually.
