Jake ! Come back we need your strength to protect Kalkamedes from the hands ! Elen just blow his weapon.

Hedra had not much against the hands, but she tried something

Conjuring the elemental force of ice and snow she throw a snowball on the hand in front of her with the help of Gamin.

Ah, I was thinking a knowledge check would be a free action that could occur out of turn, like talking. Or am I wrong about the talking, too?

Oh, well. Zombies have bones, too, don't they?

Tevaga swings at the stupid undead dragon, then backs away to draw him toward her.

Talking is a free action, but you cant take any actions til you've had your first turn, unless you have something like combat reflexes.

I think Elen is right about the hands being 'in melee'. They are diminutive so they have to be in someone's square to be in melee.

Swarmholio shoots fire at one of the hands, although the charred hand still moves.

Jake move over to help Tevaga.

Ran moves up and calls a smite on the undead dragon.

Elen fires his gun but only hears a click as the bullet lodges in the chamber.

Hedra throws a snowball but misses the small target.

@Tevaga: I'm assuming you're using your mace?

Tevaga connects with the zombie dragon but doesn't do as much damage with her mace as another weapon might do. She then backs away which will provoke:

bite on Tevaga: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

The hands move for Kalkalmedes and Hedra! Provokes from Hedra as it moves in to the square.

damage: 1d1 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

claw against Hedra: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Does anyone know where the rules discuss how long it takes to repair a broken firearm for characters without the quick clear deed?

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

I believe it is a standard to clear a firearm (assuming you have gunsmithing, I think, which you do as a gunslinger, of course). Quick clear takes it to a move. Getting Lucky and/or Reliable will save you a lot of work (coming from my archaeologist/mysterious stranger).

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Hedra swings and hits the hand as it crawls near but is unable to damage it. Rolling less than 1 damage normally deals 1 point of nonlethal but they're undead, which can't take nonlethal. Bummer. Hedra then covers Kalkamedes with magical protection.

They are not immune to daze actually. The Dazed condition isn't specifically mind affecting; ear piercing scream can affect objects, so undead trait immunity to fort saves does not apply either. I think the zombie template overrides dragon immunities too.

Found the text I was looking for. Gunsmithing feat lets me fix my gun, but it'll take an hour. "Restoring a Broken Firearm: Each day, with an hour's worth of work, you can use this feat to repair a single firearm with the broken condition. You can take time during a rest period to restore a broken firearm with this feat."

So, is the elf what she appears Ran? Or is it another demon like the gnome?

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Elen:
No, that's only to fix the broken condition. You want to clear it from being jammed. You'll want to look under the misfire paragraph in the firearms section of either Ultimate Combat or Ultimate Equipment I think. I don't have them on hand at the moment but it should be a standard to clear or a move action with quick clear (which you don't have as a mysterious stranger). I play a mysterious stranger so I'm almost positive that's how it works.

No evil from the elven woman.

Koth'Vaul is cackling curses at you in several singularly sinister languages. "Miserable mortals! Your time to termination has decreased dramatically with that demonstration of folly! Koth'Vaul will remember your faces for eons to come and I will not rest until your souls be forever damned as the lowliest of my servants!" etc.

"Ran believes Koth'Vaul is very angry, Ran says with great certainty. Perhaps Koth'Vaul will appreciate Ran tell some demon jokes, Ran says as she begins to taunt the demon trapped in a magic circle."

"Ran begins by asking 'What is a devils picket line called?'
A demonstration!"

"No? Koth'Vaul didn't like that joke? Maybe Koth'Vaul doesn't have a funny bone in his body, Ran says as she uses her words to metaphorically poke the tiger with a stick."

"Ah, Ran knows what to do, Ran says while smacking a clenched fist into his open one. Ran will attempt to convert the evil demon to good. Ran can start by opening up the scriptures of Chaldira Zuzadlara and forcing Koth'Vaul to listen. Then he will know the great virtues of Ran's Trickster God.

Ran will indeed proceed to recite the scriptures of Chaldira Zuzadlara to Koth'Vaul.

It is already angry, and wants to devour our souls. I don't think it can get any angrier. May as well have fun with it.

Is taunting the demon wise Ran? I mean I can certainly see the fun in it, but it may well have a longer memory than either you or I do.

GM:
As I understand it, the misfire causes the gun to gain the broken condition.

"Misfires: If the natural result of your attack roll falls within a firearm's misfire value, that shot misses, even if you would have otherwise hit the target. When a firearm misfires, it gains the broken condition. While it has the broken condition, it suffers the normal disadvantages that broken weapons do, and its misfire value increases by 4 unless the wielder has gun training in the particular type of firearm. In that case, the misfire value increases by 2 instead of 4."

But I'll happily spend a standard to clear the misfire if possible, after which I'll reload with powder and bullet.

"On the other hand, there is potentially a 0.0000000000000001% chance that by Ran doing this will successfully set him on the path to redeem himself, in which case there is a greater than 0% chance that he will not come after our souls later."

You have done a great service to the demonkind for providing us such pleasure when we one day tear apart your body and soul and feast upon its worthlessness."

Let's just hope Koth'Vaul doesn't show up in any other scenarios ;)

Elen:
I guess you're right. I was told wrong then and I've been playing my Mysterious Stranger wrong. He's only got one level of Gunslinger and has Reliable on his pistol so it doesn't matter that much at this point I suppose.

Tevaga is able to pull up the stone pots easily enough. They are sealed with wax but breaking the wax you find inside the following glowing items: a scabbard, some sort of head ornament, and a potion. There are also five polished pieces of amber.

Hedra thinks that this circle looks similar to the one holding in Koth'Vaul and also that the elven woman is simply unconscious; a bit of healing would bring her back up.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Kalkamedes has been slowly walking across the chamber and has been standing in front of the circle with the woman in it.

You can't break the circle by walking over it or reaching through it but really the only way to heal her with a wand is to reach over and tap her with it. Nothing bad happens so I'll assume you did that.

The elven woman's eyes flicker open. You notice that they are pure white and as she regains consciousness a radiant glow emanates from her presence. You realize that you were previously mistaken and that this is no elven maiden but an azata.

"Oh! Oh, thank you!" She looks around at the friendly faces around her. "Oh, I'm so glad it worked. I'll need your help a little more. But let me explain first."

She begins, "My name is Sulianna; Sulianna the Luminescent to be precise. Let me explain to you the history of this place. Millennia ago, during the reign of the runelords in ancient Thassilon, a conclave of powerful thaumaturgists known as the Thrallkeepers experimented with calling forth all manner of horrors to further the cause of their runelord overlords. Thinking their techniques flawless, the Thrallkeepers summoned numerous otherworldly creatures and attempted to force them into servitude. Thousands of years later, the Thrallkeepers have long since gone extinct, but several of their forgotten projects remain, lurking in ancient, abandoned vaults. One such forgotten conjuration was the powerful glabrezu demon known as Koth’Vaul. The Thrallkeepers imprisoned Koth’Vaul for centuries in one of their subterranean outposts, a small vault once named the Black Edifice; however, ravaged by time, the binding circle that holds Koth’Vaul is now decaying and will soon hold him no more. Once he is free, there will be nothing to stop Koth’Vaul from unleashing his unique brand of terror on present-day Varisia."

"And so about a month ago I took it upon myself to seek out Koth’Vaul and destroy him before he could complete his escape. Unfortunately, with the protective runes that bound Koth’Vaul already breaking down, he was much stronger than I anticipated. The demon used his undead dragon to push me within reach and then battled me for two days and three nights, and despite grievously wounding me Koth’Vaul was unable to deliver the killing blow before I withdrew and sought shelter in this second summoning circle. Koth’Vaul, though, is very patient—it is only a matter of time before the last magic circle that holds him degrades enough that he can escape."

She then looks at the dazed Pathfinder ex-paladin still wearing his nightgown. "Enter Kalkamedes, a semi-retired Pathfinder known for occasionally undertaking solo expeditions. Interested in all things pertaining to the runelords, Kalkamedes had been slowly mapping the Fenwall Mountains, having set up a rustic cottage as a comfortable base of operations. Although he didn’t realize it, Kalkamedes’s travels recently took him past the hidden ruins of the Black Edifice. As soon as he came close enough, I sensed his presence, reached out to him with my mind, and tried to contact him with a plea for help."

"Koth’Vaul, however, used his own limited powers to dampen my magical link, blocking the communication. Kalkamedes walked on by, never cognizant of the dueling forces that had touched his mind. That night, however, when Kalkamedes returned home to his cabin and fell asleep, his subconscious quickly remembered my call for help and took control of his body. My magic, thankfully, continued to work through his subconscious. I was hoping that it might lead help here; it was truly the only option I had available."

She smiles sweetly to all of you. "Now, I cannot escape the binding circle on my own and so I must call upon your aid to destroy it."

Hardness 5, 50 hp. You can eventually beat through it, even if it takes you an hour.

"Thank you. Koth'Vaul needs to be banished back the Abyss still. However, I am too weak to deal with Koth’Vaul on my own. I find your heroic perseverance admirable, though, and I think you can help me. Please, one of you volunteer to take on a bit of my power. This will allow you to banish Koth'Vaul from these premises. It is not as good as destroying him completely, but it at least spares Varisia the chaos that would ensue should he break free."

Phew! Sorry for the novel!

Sulianna brings Swarmholio closer and takes his hands as she says a blessing over him. You see the gnome's countenance brighten as the angelic power is transferred over to him.

You basically just have to walk over there and allow the spell to be cast through you. I would not recommend going into the circle with him but otherwise I'll let you narrate how you'd like to do it.

Sulianna places her hands on the skinny little gnome's head, and some of her luminescence transfers through her hands and into his ridiculously small form. She steps back to let him move towards the trapped offensive creature, and the glow in his eyes is clearly visible.

As he moves, the color of the glow in his eyes alters, it moves away form the gentle glow of Sulianna's power, and moves to a swirl of yellow, orange and red, though the glow form the rest of his form remains the gentle light she had displayed.

The Great Swarmholio moves up near the edge of the circle containing the evil, and starts waggling a finger at Koth'Vaul. When he opens his mouth and speaks, it is still, really, the annoying squeak of a voice that it seems like never shuts up, but, somehow, it resonates. "Bad Koth'Vaul! You are NOT a gnome! You do not deserve to pretend to be a gnome! Bad, bad Koth'Vaul!. Foxy Lady read you a nice bedtime story. Now it is time for you to go home and go to bed." The gnome inhales deeply. Far deeper than makes any sense for as small as his form is. He cries out "GO HOME!" exhaling the luminescence towards Koth'Vaul. The glow seeks the outsider out as he tries to flee it, surrounding him, forming itself to him. As the exhalation ends, the last flicker of light leaving The Great Swarmholio's lips, the glowing form of the outsider flickers like a flame, vanishing somehow during the flicker, taking the outsider home.

The Great Swarmholio is on the ground outside the circle, looking smaller than he did before. And quiet.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Upon being freed and ensuring Koth’Vaul’s banishment, Sulianna heals Kalkamedes of his affliction. With both of them restored, you earn powerful, lifelong allies. Sulianna accompanies the group back to Kalkamedes’s cottage and then departs for Elysium, but not before promising a favor in return for your assistance.

Venture-Captain Sheila Heidmarch expresses visible relief upon seeing your return (and astonishment at the sight of Sulianna) and offers them heartfelt thanks for their patience and hard work. Kalkamedes is also grateful, spreads word of your good deed to his long-time Pathfinder colleagues, and—with Gamin’s consent—gives his sword to you as a gift and companion. Kalkamedes also offers to take any of you who is willing under his wing, to act as your mentor in the Pathfinder Society from now on.

Congratulations everyone! That about wraps everything up! I'll get chronicle sheets sent out and the game reported tomorrow.

I had a lot of fun with this group and normally I would love to continue with another scenario but I've already got quite a few going on and I'm trying to slim down. However, you are all invited to join the Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge (linked at the top of the page). You can use the Gameplay thread to hang out in character. Once you post in the Gameplay thread the Flaxseed Lodge will show up in your campaign page like a normal campaign. Why should you do this? Because I often use the Flaxseed Lodge for advanced recruitment! The Flaxseed Lodge generally gets a 1-2 day advanced notice of my new games before the recruitment goes public (and sometimes they fill up before they go public). Also, there is a high-tier scenario sign-up sheet at the Flaxseed Lodge if you have a character at level 5+. It may be a while before I start up a new game because I have several others I need to finish first but that's the place to go to keep track of my future games if you had a good time with me here.

Thanks everyone! Hope you enjoyed this one! And yes, Gamin does appear on the chronicle sheet for 7015 gp. One of the few ways to obtain an intelligent item in PFS.

His text notes "Only a master swordsmith might repair Gamin’s imperfections, and the Pathfinder Society does not have access to such a resource at this time." but Season 5's goal is to find the dwarven Skyfortress of Jormurdun and dwarves are often master weaponsmiths; my theory is that we'll meet up with someone who can fix Gamin for you very soon!

Good work Swarmholio.

That was a lot of fun and moved along at a good pace; I wasn't expecting pbp to that smoothly. Getting access to Gamin really fits Elen wonderfully too as he's at least partially inspired by harry Dresden - inheriting a paladin's holy sword matches that extremely well.

[ooc]Glad it was a good experience. I've been around the block a few times when it comes to PbP and my games tend to most a lot faster than most. Whether or not that's a good thing is up to you but most players tend to like the faster pace.

Swarmholio, good job.

Said Hedra after the annoying gnome bannished the demon.

Ran, I think you've made a powerfull ennemy in this Kauth'Vaul. Hope you don't or we don't, cross his path again...

===============

It was a pleasure to meet you Sulianna and hope to see you again, safe and sound. Don't forget Aroden's blessing as His return has begun.
I'm happy to help saving a good soul and banish a bad one from mankind.
Be Aroden's Wisdom our guidance in all things.

Said before the Gaele came back in Elyseum.

Gamin, thanks for your help in this adventure. I hope to see you again in the future as you're like Aroden, broken, but still powerfull.

Then she thanks Kalkamedes

You're determination in helping people is great, and as a follower of the Inheritor your are worthy of Aroden. Be His blessing upon you and your futures tasks.

Thanks for this great game all, and for EF to GM it so well !
