@casty-people: you can roll your SR checks. I just rolled it for you because you didn't know she had SR at the time. I forgot about Phos' elf bonus but you made it without it so it doesn't change anything.
Phos recognizes that she has just put stoneskin on herself.
Kyra casts a spell and blinds the lamia. Aamiri moves up and gives the woman a good gash across her rune-covered serpentine body. Elizabeth follows with two deft stabs of her rapier. Both girls' hits don't do as much as they would have hoped due to the stoneskin but Miakovna nonetheless is starting to look hurt.
DC 19 Defensive Casting: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
Miakovna responds by casting another spell and turning invisible.
Initiative:
1. Phos and Elizabeth
2. Miakovna
3. Aamiri and Kyra
Miakovna: 62 dmg; 9 dex dmg; 30 pnts stoneskin gone
You guys are up!

Ah yes, thank you for reminding me for the 3rd scenario in a row that I need to purchase See Invisibility. I will learn my lesson this time.
Am I correct in assuming that I am unable to target her with a Dispel Magic because I cannot see her? Since I have Arcane Sight happening, can I determine the approximate location of the illusion? That may not be enough to target her, but I want to make sure she's not heading out the door.
EndlessForms |
With arcane sight I believe you could make out the auras to know which square she is in. It's not as if she is being cloaked by nondetection.
EndlessForms |
Is it enough to target her with a Dispel Magic?
I'm going to say so. She is carrying magical items and has spells cast on herself so presumably you can make out her outline from all the auras.

Phos casts a spell and Miakovna reappears, spitting in fury.
Initiative:
1. Phos and Elizabeth
2. Miakovna
3. Aamiri and Kyra
Miakovna: 62 dmg; 9 dex dmg; 30 pnts stoneskin gone
Ladies are up!
Aamiri Yngveldur |
Aamiri blinks as Miakovna disappears...shaking her head as she reappears. "Neat trick, that. Not very effective...but neat!" Aamiri shifts five feet to her left and attacks.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22, Damage: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (6, 6) + 16 = 28
Power Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10, Damage: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (6, 1) + 16 = 23
Power Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34, Damage: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (4, 1) + 16 = 21
Crit Check: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19, Damage: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (8, 4) + 16 = 28

Miakovna: 91 dmg; 9 dex dmg; 50 pnts stoneskin gone
Elizabeth and Kyra are up!

Oh yeah, I think my Summon Monster V should have gone off by now. I'm guessing they should attack on my init (it's usually easier that way) but let me know when you want them to go.
Celestial Deinonychus summoned: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Edit: summoned lizards added. Smite evil is factored in. Their placement is marked on the map (cause I don't know how to use icons).

Kyra Glimmerdawn |
Seeing the unexpected summoned dinosaurs appear, Kyra steps up into combat and takes a swing at the creature.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 8 + 1 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 = 5
Ugh!
EndlessForms |
Yes, you can have them act on your turn. Celestial dinosaurs is a new one, I'm going to have to remember that one. Everyone knows I'm a sucker for dinosaurs.
"Phos" |
And these are basically raptors. Raptors with smite evil AND a charisma bonus of +2. So full of win! Anyway, should these boogers have gone when I dispelled the invis, or should I wait till next round?
Miss Elizabeth |
[Ooc]I can't access the map. Feel free to adjust my post as needed. Sorry.[/dice]
Elizabeth closes the gap between herself and Miakovna. She thrusts withthe rapier; twice, if possible.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 11 + 1 = 14
Damage?: 1d6 + 3 + 4d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (6, 1, 6, 2) = 22
If she's able to get a hasted attack in:
Attack: 1d20 + 11 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 11 + 1 = 20
Damage?: 1d6 + 3 + 4d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (4, 3, 1, 5) = 17
EndlessForms |
Kyra and Elizabeth hack away at the lamia but neither is able to connect. Realizing that her spells are not as effective as she would hope, Miakovna strikes out with her weapons, dual-wielding a whip and a scimitar.
+1 whip trip attempt on Aamiri: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
I'm pretty sure Aamiri is raging at this point so I don't think that'll do it.
+1 whip trip attempt again: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
+1 scimitar attack on Aamiri: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27

+1 scimitar attack on Aamiri: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

+1 scimitar attack on Aamiri: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
plus 1 Wisdom drain if any of those hit; DC 23 Will to negate
Initiative:
1. Phos and Elizabeth
2. Miakovna
3. Aamiri and Kyra
Miakovna: 91 dmg; 9 dex dmg; 50 pnts stoneskin gone
You guys are up!
Whoever wrote this scenario really likes whips.
Kyra Glimmerdawn |
Did you take the 50% miss chance into effect from the Blind? I wasn't sure how much I beat the CMD by, but if the blind expires I will renew the attempt each round.
EndlessForms |
Wait, I just realized she couldn't have tried to trip Aamiri from where she is without provoking. Instead turn those into regular attacks. Here's the damage from the first attack, although she doesn't have anything special that lets her do damage if you are wearing armor so I don't think it will do anything anyways.
nonlethal damage: 1d3 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Aamiri Yngveldur |
Wouldn't my natural 20 have hit?
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Aamiri reels from the Scimitar strike but feels no less wise. She strikes back with vengeance, sidestepping another five feet.
Power Attack - Surprising Accuracy: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (8) + 18 = 26, Damage: 2d8 + 16 ⇒ (6, 3) + 16 = 25

Phos pulls a rod from his pack, points his finger at the enemy and unleashes 2 searing rays of fire at her.
Lesser Piercing mm rod (+5 vs. SR)
Spell Resistance Penetration: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 2 + 5 = 29

Miss Elizabeth |
Elizabeth carefully shifts around Miakovna, into a flanking position with Aamiri.

She then unleashes more stabs with her rapier.

Sorry, I did forget about the blind miss-chance. I think I also forgot about the AC adjustment for being blind last round but it won't matter in a second. . .
@Aamiri: your 20 did hit. Kyra and Elizabeth were the ones that missed.
attack 1 50% miss chance, high good for Aamiri: 1d100 ⇒ 59
attack 2 50% miss chance, high good for Aamiri: 1d100 ⇒ 64
attack 3 50% miss chance, high good for Aamiri: 1d100 ⇒ 46
attack 4 50% miss chance, high good for Aamiri: 1d100 ⇒ 78
attack 5 50% miss chance, high good for Aamiri: 1d100 ⇒ 28
Aamiri makes another solid hit on Miakovna and eats through the remainder of the stoneskin. Aamiri then follows up with two more fierce slashes which drop the lamia matriarch to the ground.
Out of combat.
Miakovna carried a potion of cure serious wounds, +1 scimitar, +1 whip, ring of counterspells (invisibility purge), silver holy symbol of Lissala, and 700 gp worth of diamond dust.
Having time to examine the room now, Elizabeth notes that there are four traps around the edge of the room. The party also locates a sliding oor in the rear of the dais which opens into a small cavity containing valuables used in services plus some Thassilonian antiques. A sheaf of what seem to be sermons and homilies to Lissala radiates faint transmutation magic and are protected by a secret page spell. Additionally, a gilded coffer contains Miakovna's correspondence with other Lissalan cults; cursory reading reveals that a number of Thassilonian artifacts tithed to the cult by the Aspis Consortium have been sent forth to other shrines throughout Varisia, including undisclosed locations in Kaer Maga, Magnimar, Palin's Cove, and Riddleport.
Once the PCs have secured the Well of Tainted Virtue by removing all opposition, the Pathfinder Society is able to move in to the locale, secure it against further intrusion, and establish it as a research and storage facility for artifacts pertaining to the Hao Jin Tapestry. Artifacts that had been stolen from the tapestry are reclaimed and cataloged, though frustratingly many have already been sent elsewhere either by the Aspis Consortium or the Lissalan cultists. Furthermore, the now-secure portal allows the distinct advantage of near-instant and free transport for vast numbers of personnel and materials between Absalom and Varisia; while the Well of Tainted Virtue is not the most convenient of locations in Varisia, traveling from the portal’s location to Riddleport, Magnimar, Korvosa, or other points in the region is still much faster than the months-long voyage by sea or the costly option of teleportation from Absalom.
The news that the cult of Lissala is still active is met with both astonishment and concern. Word quickly spreads through the Society that the Ten are eager to look into this reborn ancient religion, and many venture-captains can be heard weighing among themselves the potential value of studying the ancient faith in the flesh versus the danger posed by a religion clearly favoring a return to the old ways of the Thassilonian empire.
That's about it folks! Congratulations! You survived 03-26 Portal of the Sacred Rune! I'll get chronicle sheets up soon!
