The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

You are at the Grand Lodge in Absalom, where you have been told to meet with the mysterious character Osprey, who prefers to speak to you outdoors beneath a large tree in the courtyard of the Grand Lodge. You are walking with your companions en route to the meeting place.

The Exchange

As the group begins walking, the elven wizard has a book floating in front of him, and as he reads it he's taking notes. Whenever a turn appears or there's an obstacle you see the dark raven on his shoulder turn towards him, and he walks around it without looking up

An older human dressed in wizard robes and leaning heavily on a quarterstaff makes his way to the Grand Lodge. As he comes closer you notice that he is wearing a Leather Lamellar over top of the robes, his staff is well crafted, and his muscles bear the cording of someone well trained in armed combat. His hair whips in the wind, only briefly giving a glimpse of his violet eyes.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Osprey approaches the party from the shadows of a nearby tree. "This mission is easy," he says, "All you need to do is travel to Railford, find the son of Iodon Railford and convince him to let the Pathfinders use part of his distillery as a lodge. We have finances, we can protect him, and if nothing else, we can help him honor the work of his father, who afterall, was one of us."

Osprey drops a packet of letters on the ground before mysteriously stepping behind a tree and disappearing. Above the tree you notice a large bird flying away to some other part of the Lodge's grand estate.

Andoran/Silver Crusade:
Friend of Freedom,

It has come to my attention that a battalion of Eagle Knights has gone rogue, likely driven mad by some entropy lurking beneath Droskar’s Crag. While the sad fates of errant do-gooders rarely concern me, there are rumors that one of the survivors remains relatively sane, but has split from the rogue battalion and now lives in relative secrecy in Taldor, at Railford, trying to drink the horrors from his mind. I only need this information confirmed. It is imperative that he remain unaware that we know of his existence.

Sincerely,

Captain Colson Maldris

Cheliax/Shadow Lodge:
Exquisite Flesh Morsel,

I require the procuring of a rare and pungent swamp root. There are only a few regions in which this plant grows wild, though quite conveniently, it is native to the very region to which you are being sent. The name of the root is ygrat, though it is sometimes known as Crone’s Tongue. Vintners mash the root into an oily paste used for seasoning wine casks. The locals should know where it’s found, however I need it to be fresh. It has … useful properties that should server our evenings well.

Paracountess Zarta Dralneen

Osirion/Grand Lodge:
Hand of the Ruby Prince,

I am quite close with the family of a former associate of the late Iodun Railford, an accomplished wizard and fellow Pathfinder named Abta Nuatha. Abta disappeared almost a decade ago without a word. The family attempted several times to contact Iodun for further information, however he never gave a reply and upon Railford’s death, the family was forced to employ a seer to determine their son’s whereabouts, who found nothing. If he lives, he must be brought immediately before the pharaoh. If he died, it is of utmost importance that he receives a proper burial so that his soul may carry over to the land of the dead.

Respectfully,

Amenopheus, The Sapphire Sage

Qadira/Lantern Lodge:
Greetings,

Railford possesses secrets of distilling pungent and rare spirits. While these putrid western beverages provide little interest to us, the trade princes believe the distilling techniques used to create these spirits could prove invaluable in the production of tinctures, perfumes, and the preservation of spices, herbs, and other items. We require that you learn all you can about these processes from Becher Railford and forward your findings to us. Let Becher know we are sincere in our desire to bargain with him and if he shows interest, we may even consider sponsoring him for a bit, provided he can build us some of his devices and teach us how to use them.

Sincerely,

Pasha Muhlia Al-Jakri

Taldor/Sczarni:
Loyal Subject of the Empire

We are thankful indeed to have one of our own on this mission. As you know, the Pathfinders seek to establish a lodge at Railford, a cause both just and worthy. At present, several candidates already seek the position of Venture-Captain of Railford lodge. All we ask that we keep Taldor properties beneath the wings of its own people. Outsiders cannot understand our plight and we desperately need to make sure we maintain control of our own destiny. We need you to convince Becher to force the Decemvirate’s decision. Instead of asking Becher to sign the deed to the Pathfinders, request that he sign it to Dominicus Blelor, a fellow countryman and old friend and ally of Becher’s father. Ensuring Becher believes such a decision would honor his father is preferable.

For Emperor and Empire,

Baron Jacquo Dalsine

A young gnome in simple commoner's garb follows along hesitantly. His eyes dart about and peer at every shadow and passing person warily as if the entire city might jump him at any time.

A small pack on his back, and what gear can be seen hanging from it, look brand new and never been used.

When introduced, he mumbles a quiet 'Milo', but otherwise seems to try to avoid being cornered into a conversation, though he might be caught watching Tiasar surreptitiously from time to time as the later reads his book.

He quickly darts out grabs the letter with his name on it then backs away again before opening and reading it, scowling the whole time. The note then spontaneously bursts into flame, and he watches it burn with a strangely intense look.

After Osprey speaks, he responds simply "Yes m'lord", and reaches for a letter address to the Andoran Faction, opens it, reads it, then tucks it in his belt pouch.

After the rest of the band takes their letters and finishes, he introduces himself, "Marcus, forest warden in training."

Milo fidgets for a bit, eying the others suspiciously.

"So where's this Railford place?" he blurts out finally, "And what kinda rich tossers get a town named after them?"

If his accent is anything to judge, he's clearly not a local.

He starts to say more, but realizes the others are looking at him and instead clamps his mouth shut and takes a step back.

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

With passage booked by the Society, the party arrives off the Taldor coast with directions in hand on how to navigate their way to the small town of Railford.

Despite Osprey's promise of an easy mission, the path to Railford is hardly an easy one to follow, especially after the spring thaw waters turn the thick clay soil to slough. Only a few crudely scarred trees denote the secluded route as it winds through the syrupy mire of flooded vineyards and vague remnants of rotten trellis with grapevines choked out by prevasive briars and heavy blankets of peat. Luckily Marcus is able to keep his head and lead the party through the mire.

The rain lets up for a little, yet its cold sourness remains and the overcast sky shows no effort towards cheering the mood. The party continues travelling for several hours before the rain starts again and all darkens. The creepers and overgrowth do little to help the situation, blocking some of the rain but casting strange twisting shadows. Markers become more difficult to see.

Through the rain the party can see a small campfire in the distance, with the outline of a town beyond it, seeming the small town of Railford.

N Gnome Wizard 10 / Sorcerer 1

Milo is a truely pathetic sight, drenched in the rain. He has spent most of the trip relatively quiet, answering questions when asked, but rarely seeking company. He seems awfully introverted for a gnome.

His eyes perk up at the sign of fires up ahead. "In this godsforsaken weather, why build a fire when you're so close to town and a roof?" He grumbles, kicking mud futilely off of his boots.

"Then again," the gnome continues, uncharacteristically verbose, "A fire would probably do wonders for this mess of an orchard." He breaks off a small bit of nearby bramble, his thoughts seemingly elsewhere for a moment before refocusing on the twig in his hands, which momentarily catches fire, before he drops it into a puddle.

"If there is a distillery here, it ain't been making booze for some time."

Group initiative works like this: you guys can all hold for each other, so you can basically go in any order you want when you are up. If you would like you can say something like "I will let the ranged people get off their attacks before moving forward and swinging at Baddie #1", etc.

I will also roll the baddies' attacks and damages at the same time but I will leave it up to you to track your own HP. Be sure to update either your banner or keep a running total of your current HP state each time you post during combat. As long as you are keeping track of it in some way.

"This mean we're not likely to get a dry roof and warm bed over there then?"

We should head to the buildings. Be on guard, but alert. We don't know where these men that attacked us are from

The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

Having taken down the soldiers, the party continues their trip through the mire into the small town of Railford.

Atop a hillock stand half a dozen small stone cottages surrounding a tall brick and timber building topped with a massive tin-covered water drum. A sign over its looming doors reads Railford Distillery est. 4693. From a squat brick building sharing an adjoining wall with the distillery rises a long cylindrical chimney. A low, moss-covered cobblestone wall surrounds the entire property.

As the party walks down the main street, they notice that many buildings have their windows shuttered and the town seems totally vacant until several villagers begin popping their heads out of their windows to shout threats at the company, telling them to leave. They begin throwing garbage at you, calling you troublemakers and ruffians.

Eventually a band of what appear to be the home-town militia emerge from a nearby building. There are five of men who look to be amateur soldiers. The grizzled leader steps forward, "My name is Dalard Fritch. Who stands before me and what is your business in Railford? You don't bear the marks of Grald's men."
