Sonavut nods at Miso, "We would much appreciated you helping us out here and if time is of the essence, a dragon can be dealt with on your own time but I'm afraid there is naught you can do about the storms except wait for them to pass."


The Flaxseed Pathfinder Lodge

When you leave Sonavut’s home, they find a crowd has gathered in the square outside, led by the village shaman, Tunuak. An aged man, though still hearty, Tunuak leans on a twisted staff, wrapped in a heavy gray cloak decorated with Erutaki tribal designs. His brown eyes are yellowed with age, as are his few remaining teeth, and his balding head is a patchwork of short, wiry white hairs around his temples and the back of his head. Tribal tattoos decorate his liver-spotted pate and face, wrinkled and worn by wind and sun. He carries himself with an air of importance, expecting to be heard.

Addressing the crowd, Tunuak proclaims that your intrusion will only inflame the dragon’s anger. The villagers have turned away from the spirits of the wind and invited outsiders into their midst, and the spirits will repay such faithlessness by sending the dragon against Iqaliat once again. Now, even the traditional sacrifices to propitiate the wind spirits will not suffice. The outsiders’ taint can be removed only by sacrificing one of them, and the rest must leave at once.

To counter Tunuak’s harangue, you must make an opposed Bluff, Diplomacy, and Intimidate check against Tunuak (one of each). Only one person may attempt each check, though one other character may use the aid another action to assist each check. The hearthmistress Sonavut argues on your behalf, providing a +2 circumstance bonus on one of your checks.

Miso looks over the crowd and tries to find the Erutaki word for "defender."

Jennix listens quietly to the man's words, the moves up with a swagger in his step and smiles to the assembled villagers. "DO not fear my friends! We are mighty heroes from the south! We have vanquished many a mighty foe, and as my companion put it, if the dragon interferes with us, it won't be around to interfere anymore. If we rid you of this white dragon, will you aid us in crossing?"

Miso:
You get the hunch that there is more to Tunuak's action than a simple desire to protect his village from the dragon, but you are unsure of his exact intentions.

"Listen not to these foreigners! They will only anger the dragon and bring its wrath down upon us even harder!"

The villagers relent and seem to be siding with Tunuak. They no longer demand a sacrifice but many of them are yelling at you to leave their town immediately.

Sonavut and Chief Nalanaq apologize for the behavior of the villagers and regret that your stay will not be as comfortable as they hoped. Perhaps the only way to win the villagers' trust now is to defeat the dragon....

Terflynn grumbles in Zachary's ear, "This is why I lived outside of Sandpoint in the first place."

Miso whispers to his companions, There is more to this Tunuak's words and deeds than a mere attempt to save his village. He is as true as the chameleon.

The monk then clears his throat and continues aloud to the assemblage. A great many foes indeed, as Jennix has mentioned.

Can Miso show his claws to auto-aid Jennix' Intimidate roll? That looks like it might be our best shot at this...

Tunuak's face stats are all really high. I honestly didn't expect you to make any of them; be glad that you didn't fail all of them at least (something about an angry mob chasing you out of town and destroying your caravan). . . .

hunt the dragon, Sonavut gives you each a set of claws of the ice bear. Chief Nalvanaq offers to provide a guide to take you to the dragon’s lair while the caravan stays behind in Iqaliat.

claws of the ice bear:

Aura faint transmutation; CL 3rd
Slot hands; Price 1,300 gp; Weight 1 lb.

Strapped to the hands, these spiked climbing claws crafted by the Erutaki grant a +2 competence bonus on Climb checks and Acrobatics checks made when using both hands to aid in movement, and allow the wearer to ignore the normal penalties on those skills for slippery or icy surfaces. In addition, up to 3 times per day, the wearer can activate the claws as a swift action to gain the benefits of spider climb for 1 round. The wearer cannot hold anything else in her hands while using claws of the ice bear. If used as a weapon, claws of the ice bear function as spiked gauntlets.

Miso would be all about going after the dragon, particularly after seeing the snake oil salesman speak against it. Or maybe that's just Miso"s player being contrarian, I'm not sure. LOL

The white dragon Vegsundvaag makes her lair underneath the icepack about 60 miles north of Iqaliat, in a vertical rift that spans a vast gulf over subglacial rock-spires. During sunny periods, meltwater slicks the icy walls of the rift before cascading in an algid spray into gravelly pools below. The 20-foot-wide rift stretches over 100 feet long at ground level but narrows to half that width below before widening into a massive subglacial chasm 400 feet deep.

I'm having some trouble visualizing the environment. There's like, a cliff in front of us, with a chasm splitting it in half, and then that chasm continues to the ground where we stand, splitting that in half as well. The ground-chasm tapers down into a 10ft wide slit before opening into an actual chamber below. Is that right?

Vegsundvaag lairs on the eastern side of the rift, a large dragon with scales glittering like polished ice edged with silver. Her scaled face is marred with claw marks, and the horned frill surmounting her head is tattered and scarred, enhancing the menace of her dark, deep-set eyes. Her body is stout and muscular, and measures about 15 feet from her snout to the base of her thick tail.

Vegsundvaag shrieks at you in Draconic when you enter her chamber!

Draconic:
"Murderers and dupes of the hateful two-legs who killed my unborn children! You work for baby-killers and monsters! You will not survive my wrath!"

If permissible, Miso would have used a charge from the flame arrow wand for Zachary before we go in.

Miso, clearly surprised, translates. She claims we, or some like us, have taken her eggs.

Draconic:

This is unheard news, Miso responds in fluent Draconic. We are not aware of your lost eggs. We are here only to seek an end your attacks on Iqaliat. If this can be done peacefully, we welcome it.

Miso will ready.

Miso's readied action:

Miso will release the wand of scorching ray from his spring-loaded wrist sheath and fire a charge at the white dragon.

Terflynn casts Mage Armor. "What did it say, Miso?" he asks, noticing that Miso apparently speaks Draconic.

The dragon shrieks back at Miso, clearly hysterical:

Draconic:
"They smashed my eggs! The people from the village, I found their markings around my nest! I no longer seek peace, I seek vengeance!"

As it seems the dragon is not interested in peaceful solutions, Miso takes out his wand and fires. You can roll if you get to it before I do.

Terflynn recognizes this dragon as a young adult white dragon. Dragons of this age usually resist mundane weapon damage and white dragons are, of course, immune to cold and vulnerable to fire. They resist spells and are immune to sleep and paralysis, as is usual for dragons.

Teflynn's arrow bounces off the dragon's hide, which also absorbs Miso's spell as if nothing can harm it! The dragon tries to cover itself from ranged attacks by producing a snowy, swirling fog cloud between herself and the party!

I think the dotted red lines are supposed to represent the overhangs above. If you look at the side view you can see there's sort of a small entrance above, so that's showing where that comes out I think. In other words, nothing you really need to worry about unless you want to fly up that way.

Terflynn conjures up a tiny orb of surging and burning arcane energy. He eyes the fog cloud and extends his arm toward it, the orb hurtling forward with incredible speed. "Get down!" he calls out, hoping to avoid catching anyone else in the blast.

Zachary's arrows fly into the mist as Terflynn explodes a fireball but you only hear the laughing of the dragon from within!

Suddenly the great dragon burrows up from the ground behind Jennix! Jennix's quick attack misses but Miso scorches it with a blast of fire!

The dragon goes for Jennix!
