Brak, Umaga, and Zax work together to take care of the skeletons!
Out of combat!
"Well," the Devil's Claw mercenary says, lowering his sword. "I guess my contract is up. Is that creep Janks still in the hall above? No? Good. I've got no quarrel with you now that it seems my paycheck won't be coming so if it's all the same to you, I'll just show myself out."
Brak Thunderstriker |
I need your clothes, your boots, and your bike.
"Not so fast. What's beyond this room? Be specific and say true."
EndlessForms |
"Back there's the archives. Celeena Deckland has been in there searching for something, documents of some sort. We were just hired to watch over her while she did her searching or researching. I don't know much more."
Pierre Bouthillier |
Pierre asks Rhy to heal his wounds as he tries to give the man his wand.
Three charges later...
Pierre cracks his neck and tests out his shoulder from the near dislocation. "Much better."
He stows his wand and gets caught up with the group. "We're Pathfinders. Let's handle this and be on our way."
Zax Groud |
Zax doesn't think they should simply let the man go, however he does not wish to engage in combat with him either. If the group elects to let him go he will not impede the man. Let's complete our mission.
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
CLW Wand: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 Is this a CLW or a Magic Missile Wand? Damn defects. I need a better supplier.
Brak Thunderstriker |
At a Con this weekend, will post when able.
"Drop yer gold and yer weapons. Then get the hells outa here."
Brak hefts the crossbow again. "This time I'm shooting first."

Ok, back now! Moving on:
Great, upright stones dominate this room, evenly spaced out to allow for easy passage between them. The stones have been perfectly carved to form bookshelves, each with six different shelves containing various books, notes, maps, and other crammed-in documents. A perpetual thick gray fog covers the floor of this room to a height of six inches, and most of the documents on the lowest shelves of the bookcases appear to have rotted away because of condensation from this fog, giving the room a pungent, musty aroma.
Celeena Deckland is here waiting for your entrance, looking around the corner of a bookshelf. A lemure devil, no doubt brought along by Deckland, guards the way towards the woman.

Pierre, Rhyfelwr, Hingle, and Zax are up!
Hingle McCringleberry |
Kn (planes): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Hingle shares that the lemure is a devil (and whatever otehr information his roll provides) and assumes Zax will deliver smiting goodness — literally — on it. Meanwhile, he double moves around the room in an effort to get closer to Celeena. One good color spray should take her alive, he says aloud to no one in particular.
Brak Thunderstriker |
Posting now, in case I'm too busy drinking to enjoy my new job and summer vacation!
If there's a clear lane on his turn
Snarling, Brak takes aim with his crossbow, the barb of the enchanted bolt forming the end of his sights. Seeing the literal mound of flesh, the dwarf drops the loaded crossbow and charges forward...
CHARGE! (Power Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 2 - 2 = 19 DMG: 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12* (Oil of Bless Weapon should still be in effect I think.)
If there isn't a clear lane, I'll double move to get into position somewhere. Either way I'll try to check in ASAP.
Pierre Bouthillier |
Pierre chuckles, "Now this is something I can get behind." He dashes into the room and disappears into the stacks, drawing his gleaming mithril sickle.
EndlessForms |
Hingle remembers that lemures are minor devils but still require silver or good-aligned weapons to fully damage them. They do not suffer from fire and resist acid and cold damage. They are also immune to mind-affecting effects and poison.
The party moves into the room and spreads out!
Initiative:
1. Pierre, Rhyfelwr, Hingle, and Zax
2. Celeena and devil
3. Brak and Umaga
Rhy is up!

@Zax: the lemure is gone.

1. Pierre, Rhyfelwr, Hingle, and Zax
2. Celeena

Heading to family for the 4th of July. I'll be very intermittent until Monday. I'm ready to go for whatever the group does, rolls are below. I'm good for anything Core form Season 3.

Moving along:
Rhy pulls back an arrow and as Celeena tries to cast a spell he sinks his arrow into her side. Brak then smashes her leg in and she yelps in pain. "Surrender! Surrender, please! Just give me my life!"
Brak Thunderstriker |
"And let's make sure we get all the relevant information outa this place. Seems like a scholar's wet dream in here (pardon my Elven.)"
EndlessForms |
Celeena reaches into her robes and pulls out a thick roll of parchment. "My father's notes about Absalom. That's what I was here to recover. Take what you will from this library then, if you'll just let me go. You're Pathfinders, right? Historians? Scholars? The history of Absalom is told on these shelves and you would gain much from the study of these scrolls. I carry no gold on me, take these that I offer you. My plan will not come to fruition now."
---
With Celeena stopped and the documents secured, Absalom is once again safe from invasion. She is put on trial for treason (a family tradition, it seems) and sentenced to a lengthy prison term.
And that's it for 01-55 The Infernal Vault! Chronicles coming soon and then we'll start a new one in the next couple days!

The summons from Drandle Dreng is brief and a bit odd: “Meet Kreighton Shaine in the stables to discuss missing artifacts.” Aside from some briefings during training, few Pathfinders deal with the Society’s Master of Scrolls. In the muddy stables, Kreighton’s scholarly robes drag through the muck, and his soft shoes are clearly soaked through, though he doesn’t seem to notice.
“I’ve been working on an extensive study of religious relics, trying to ascertain whether items gain a certain aura of divinity that cannot be detected through normal means. I’ve been collecting these artifacts through a series of well-known dealers in the God’s Market. We’ve never had any trouble before, but recently several of our couriers have been waylaid by a particularly elusive bandit.” Kreighton pauses briefly as his mud-soaked robe snags on a nail and he nearly falls over, but a stable boy catches his arm and steadies him.
“As they were headed through the Ascendant Court,” he continues, “a group of thugs ambushed our couriers. The first time I thought it was a coincidence—a random mugging. After the second time, however, Grandmaster Torch had some harsh words with me. He suspects someone has targeted our couriers specifically. The Drandle boy suggested I have you investigate the disappearances.” There is a long, uncomfortable pause and for a minute it seems the elf has completely forgotten he was discussing something.
Finally, he glances up with a sort of stunned look on his face. “Oh yes, here, this list will help you. The Grandmaster has helpfully provided it as a starting point.”
You may already know some information about the God’s Market.
Zax Groud |
Theft! How disgraceful. We'll get to the bottom of this. Zax has no idea about the Market, however.
I suppose we can simply go down the list one by one.
