GM Enchanter's #5-08: The Confirmation (Inactive)

The minotaur begins to laugh at Ford's proclamation. Between that and Brayden's fire, he shifts his attention to the neophyte Pathfinders. He sees Draylan at the foot of the tree bridge and lowers his head and charges the man. He manages to strike the fighter in the side with his horns.

Powerful Charge: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10

"No!!" Janira shouts. "Attack me!" She loads her crossbow and fires it at the minotaur. The bolt slams right into the back of the minotaur's knee. He roars in pain.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 1 = 26
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 = 23
Total Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8

Crazy! Everyone up again. Janira is still providing Inspire Courage, btw.

Draylan will delay until the ranged attackers fire, then try and trip the minotaur

Ford seems very indignant about the laughing. Clearly, this big brute needed an example. "Lady Janira!" Ford shouted back, glaring firmly at the halfling female. "This is for your safety, and we are more than capable of dealing with this monster. I will not request again: fall back! We will handle this behemoth!"

Grasping his spear in both hands, Ford stamped his spear into the ground again. Waves of searing energy rippled outwards, passing fluidly up and around his allies. However, when it connects with the bull-headed beast, it'll cut nasty lashes into the minotaur's skin. "I warned you!"

Channel Negative Energy against the Minotaur, using Selective Channel to prevent everyone nearby from taking damage (Janira should be out of the range, if my counting it right.) DC 17 to save
Channel Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Ragnar shoots his bolt at the minotaur.

Heavy Crossbow Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Damage: 1d10 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

The wave of negative energy cuts into the minotaur's skin and Ragnar's bolt embeds into his arm. The powerful creature is bleeding heavily, but its muscular form is still a huge threat.

Janira shouts back, "I won't abandon you! We work as a team! This beast will not break us!"

Kassi will continue to move to the Minotaur but not before she casts Divine Favor upon herself.

Brayden hurls another bomb at the beast, targeting his right shoulder away from Kaneka.

bomb fire damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 3 + 1 = 8

I think that's everyone, my trip attack will can happen now.

Kassi, did you move on the map or do you need us to move you? Also, do you intend to go into the stream or across the bridge?

Another bomb strike the minotaur and burns him. At nearly same time, Draylan sweeps the minotaur's legs out from under him and the large beast goes down with a crash.

The minotaur suddenly realizes the tide has definitely turned. He scrambles to his feet and tries to move away from the Pathfinders. Unfortunately, the tanglefoot glue is now sticking to itself as he moves, seriously slowing him down. He only manages to get about 15 feet.

Draylan, you get an AOO for him standing.

Janira moves back toward the safety of stream, clearly feeling her wounds now.

Everyone is back up. Unless, of course Draylan ends it all with his AOO.

Of course you do. The minotaur wasn't smart enough to think about that.

As the minotaur rises and turns to flee, Dralyan seizes the opening and with a pair of strikes, cuts down the bull-headed beast. It's body collapses on the grass and blood begins to stain it red.

Janira shouts at the victory. "You did it! Thank you so much for arriving when you did! I feared I was on my last legs against that beast."

Taking a moment to rest, her head suddenly comes back up. "Oh, but what did you find in the caves? Did you see the gillmen?"

"Yes, we did. Would you like my notes now, or back at the lodge?"

"Milday! If you would..." Ford asked, motioning for her to approach as he waded through the waters of the river, pulling out his wand. "We saw more than that. The cave is apparently an old temple to Aroden, my predecessor, but that's not what brings the gillmen here. One inside, Uroi, said they come here because the waters are sacred. And apparently, someone else had the plan to kill them and turn them into an army of the undead. Ironically, his plan seems to have eaten him, so his threat is removed."

Ragnar reloads his crossbow, just in case.

Brayden looks about the company, impressed by their achievements. "indeed, we have learned and seen a great deal. Yet a part of the chambers still lies unexplored. Shall we go back and have a look?"

Whatever is closest to the Minotaur. Go ahead and move me I can only post from my iPhone.

"All of that?! My stars..." Janira waves away the notes. "Save those for Master Shaine. You can tell me about it on the way back instead. I love hearing the stories."

"But if there is more to explore you can most certainly go back. It sounds like you've solved the crux of our question, but this is your Confirmation, so only you can tell us when a Pathfinder's work is done."

Up to you if you want to go back, you can. But you've gotten enough to get full credit.

Everyone's gonna hate me, but Ford would not be satisfied until the cave is fully explored and the gillmen are safe. However, if nothing else big is inside, we can just go ahead and call it a mission.

I'll narrate it, since it doesn't really warrant the extra time.

At Ford's insistence, the group head back into the caves to finish mapping them. It goes smoothly until they stumble on a pair of kobolds who seem to be scouting the cave as well. The kobolds attack the group, but easily succumb to the more powerful Pathfinders. Ragnar trips a poisoned dart trap laid by the Kobolds, but luckily it doesn't penetrate his armor.

After a couple of hours, the group makes their way back to Janira who is still sitting by the stream with the minotaur corpse nearby. The corpse has begun to stink, but the halfling is busy writing in her own journal of the day's events. She look sup and smiles at them. "Well, ready to head back? I think Master Shaine will be very proud of you."

The trip back is much less eventful. Janira leads you into the Grand Lodge and goes to fetch Master Shaine. She returns with the elf in tow. "Janira tells me you had quite the adventure. As Pathfinders, you should know to never expect a boring assignment. Even something as mundane as this task can have danger and excitement. Now, your notes please."

The elf gathers the scraps of paper from each of you, peering at the scribbles, scratches, and sketches. He nods as he reads and also make seemingly random murmurs. [b]"A temple of Aroden? And a gillman worship site? Interesting. Very good." He continues reading. "Undead and kobolds? And some blob creature? Bad." He finally looks back up.

"Well, good work all of you. I like the detail several of you put into these. Often people can't even remember what they had for breakfast in the morning. That's why you need to take your notes while the events and details are still fresh. Janira, good work with your team. I may recommend you for this type of thing again." He folds the notes and puts them into his satchel.

"Now, one thing is left. Since you were the first group to scout the cave, you get to name it. What shall it be called?"
