Cretien Dufrene |
would Cretien have any reason to distrust Prof. Weber, or trust him more than usual? Or would he be just another colleague?
Cretien Dufrene |
Responding to Lemond, Cretien says "Well, I mostly know of him by reputation, so I couldn't say one way or another."
Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
Johnathan says softly, "Had a dream, last night..." then waits to see if anyone wants to hear it.
He takes a deep breath, smiles awkwardly, then frowns.
"I was walking through the Cloudwood, through the trees, carrying something. I activated it, and the memories inside form into an image: A ring, a mechanical skeleton, ghost figures in the bayou--then a voice says: 'His master watches a sinister conspiracy unfold, how many were there? Who? Is there a clue in the inscription? Watching... Run away, run away! They call me a traitor but I will escape to stop them!'. Um...what else, oh the inscription on the ring read: 'overcome the dark arts'. And then the ring and mechanical skeleton exploded and I woke up."
Rubbing his hands together nervously, he looks down. "I hope it gives us an edge when it starts to make more sense."
Cretien Dufrene |
"Your syntax confused me. What parts were said be each participant in this dream?"
Angus McCormick |
Well it does appear that someone is lying between both people. And with all the witness dead or the people form the expidition we can't, for the moment know who is. Let's hope we shall uncoverstuff. But if it is the woman who is lying then why did she insist on us going to the dig ? Is it a way for her to remove us from the city so that the rest of the masterplan can unfold ?
LeMond Asher |
I wanted to stop by the RHC headquarters in Bole and see if they had investigation records already made, as well as requisitioning those potions.
I tell everyone to expect rain.
Cretien Dufrene |
Cretien will make sure his cloak is good and oiled against the rain.
GMEDWIN |
At about noon, you get a knock on the door of your hotel rooms and you then open up and an Ork woman with orange skin and red hair stands in front of you, she says, "ACI Ademira Da Gama, I am the head of operations for the RHC here in Bole. I understand you will be in our AO for the next bit. Delft sent me a cable which was a bit vague. How can we help you?"
Falko Escheus |
"ACI Da Gama, a pleasure!" says Falko as he makes his classic bow and lifts her hand to his lips, looking once more as though he's never met anyone so charming in his life.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
"What do you know of the archaeological work being done around Agathe? Did you visit the place yourself?" he asks with a twinkle in his eyes.
GMEDWIN |
Da Gama says, "Holbrook, yes, you were one of those that saved the King, I have heard of you. A pleasure to meet you."
She then looks to Falko, "Well, it is a pleasure to meet you constables. We hold down the fort here in the south. We keep an eye on the Berans mostly and watch out for smugglers. The Dreammies have a small compound here but they seem to be on the decline."
She says, "Well, the last thing I heard was about four days ago when the Agate commissioner came into town talking about a monster attack reported to him by some archaeologists returning from the city, something about brains being eaten very macabre. We were going to send some folks up there, but most of our best men are undercover or on missions elsewhere. Bole usually only gets one or two academy grads per year. We know we aren't the capitol or even Flint but we should get as many as Shale, shoot, the King's own sister a traitor."
Angus McCormick |
I am Angus MarkCormick ACI he says introducing himself
We would like to read the report that was made about that dig and the murders, as well as to have a copy of all the filed paperwork that was done in order to get the approval for that dig. We are looking to try and solve this case and to know what really happened. We want to know the name and race of those who died and of any who were sent to that dig
GMEDWIN |
Da Gama looks at Angus quizzically, "What murders are you talking about? As I said you would need to speak with the commissioner of the Agate police, who may have more information. Permissions, paperwork or other such thing we don't have. The High Bayou and the marshes for the most part belong to the animals and the fey. What the commissioner asked us to do was send a team out there but we haven't been able to collect a group. You guys look like you want to investigate this further. We heard monsters or thought it could be an unknown animal or even one of the fey could have done this but maybe it was murder. Agate is another day walk from here. If you leave first thing tomorrow, you should be able to get there by nightfall."
She then looks again at Angus and says, "Constable, you should check your tone. Although I may be stationed in Bole, I still need to be addressed with the proper courtesies and I am the Assistant Chief Inspectress of the RHC."
She then smiles, "I want to help you but we knew that there was a dig but that is about it. Anything else that I can help you with?"
LeMond Asher |
"Constable Asher, ACI." He says, nodding when Da Gama enters. "If you find it acceptable, consider us on loan to be your field team to investigate the matters at the dig thoroughly."
"Can we requisition items we might need through you?"
Cretien Dufrene |
Cretien remains quiet throughout the exchange, having nothing to add.
Cretien Dufrene |
"Ach, what a poor time to scrap my mechanus for parts."
LeMond Asher |
Asher thinks hard for a moment, going over his clipboard of notes.
"As for requisitions..." he hands her a sheet of paper.
-5x Bedrolls
-Enough tent space for 5
-4 Days of rations for 5
-4 Days of fresh water in waterskins for 5
-2 Potions of cure light wounds
-2 Pack Mules (+1 for Constable Esheus has been scribbled next to this one)
-Bug repellant If this exists
-Map of the area
-Waterproof scroll case
-5 All-weather cloaks
-Here Asher has written down a number of pairs of hiking boots for each member not currently wearing their own
-4 days of firewood (Unless the jungle will provide)
"Anything else you'd recommend, ACI? You know this terrain better than us. I was considering hiring a guide... As for other questions, Doctor Xambria Meredith, did she check in with your HQ at all during these incidents, or will the Agathe records have that?"
GMEDWIN |
She looks over the list and says, "Well, I can provide those to you except for the mules. You would need to rent them from one of the mining companies. The mountain trail is pretty obvious. Once you get to Agate, you may want to hire a guide because the high bayou and the marsh is pretty dense."
She then says, "When you get to Agate, you would probably do well to ask around. There is a community of only 200 people they notice everything out there. Here is a big city so the people just go to work and then home."
Later that evening, the camping equipment arrives and is divided into five rucksacks for hiking.
Do you rent the mules or not?
LeMond Asher |
"I meant originally for the mules to carry the firewood, and any evidences we were to find at the scene." Asher says, making sure that one of the two healing potions are in Falko's kit and the second is in his own. "As well as carrying any bodies that might want it, or even require it." he finishes grimly.
Yeah, lets say three mules and and a guide when we are in agate. Falko can ride one of the less burdened mules all he wants, but if we end up using it for other things eventually, he'll have to tough it out.
When we are in Agate, Asher would very much want to get a report of everything they have on the case so far, but I can understand if you don't want to roleplay through that, and just bill us and list learned information.
GMEDWIN |
Mark off 25gp for the mules.
FALL, Day 5
The following morning you leave the hotel, rent three mules and you trek across the forested plateau up to the foothills of the Athras Mountains to Agate. The weather is hot, the forest dense and steamy, the rain relentless, and the footing difficult despite following miner's paths. Numerous small branches lead off towards mines, but luckily there are a few signs so you don't go the wrong way. You encounter a small band of miners (an emerald and sapphire mine) heading from Agate to their site in the afternoon, and they nod politely as they pass.
By nightfall you reach the small town of Agate, sitting at the edge of the High Bayou. There are two pubs (the 'Reckless Adventurer' and 'Miner's Gold', the latter also having some rooms), a cluster of well-built masonry warehouses near the gate, and a spread of shacks hosting a mostly temporary population of 200 or so. It looks poor, quiet, and depressing.
Cretien Dufrene |
5 gold each for the mules sound good, guys?
marked 5gp off my sheet.
"Better get some rooms." Cretien says, nodding his head towards the Miner's Gold.
LeMond Asher |
"Yes, we had better."
He looks to Falko. "Constable Escheus, since you'll be the one of us most developing a bond with these beasts, could you see to their care for tonight?"
"I'll be drinking in the local gossip." Asher turns toward the Reckless Adventurer.
Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
Johnathan stares off vacantly while they work out the supplies details.
He murmurs to himself, "His master watches a sinister conspiracy unfold, how many were there? Who? Is there a clue in the inscription? Watching..."
Blinking rapidly a moment, he smiles at Asher. "Can I come?"
LeMond Asher |
Asher cringes a bit when asked by Johnathan.
Stormy seas... We are trying to LEARN rumors not create new ones.
He gives the other constables a look, as if asking non-verablly if they'd have other tasks for the young constable to perform. "Well, err... That depends... Can you have a drink without freaking everyone out?" he says at last, sternly.
Falko Escheus |
"Yes, we had better."
He looks to Falko. "Constable Escheus, since you'll be the one of us most developing a bond with these beasts, could you see to their care for tonight?"
"I'll be drinking in the local gossip." Asher turns toward the Reckless Adventurer.
"See to their care!? If only I knew what that meant..." replies Falko in a tone that clearly means he doesn't wish to do anything more having to do with mules.
Cretien Dufrene |
"Well, I will go get a room. Not sure how much they cost yet, anyone else want me to make their accommodations? Not on my dime, that is."
Cretien half-turns toward Miner's Gold and steps, though his head is turned toward the party for a response.
GMEDWIN |
Reckless Adventurer:
Miner's Gold:
'Meredith. Meredith Xambria' says John, and brings up his hands to make breasts drawing quiet chuckles from the patrons.
The barwoman ignores them, and says, "How may I help you gents, rye whisky or a room?"
Cretien Dufrene |
Cretien's expression seems to brighten at the barwoman's question.
"Both sound lovely. How are your rooms? Mainly how expensive, and how many people to a room?"
LeMond Asher |
"Well, I will go get a room. Not sure how much they cost yet, anyone else want me to make their accommodations? Not on my dime, that is."
"Of course. We are on business after all. Consider the cost of any expenses paid for me to be reimbursed once we regroup. If you don't have the coin on you now, I can give you a few."
"Whiskey." Asher orders for himself as they take seats at the bar. He waits for their response to Johnathan's question with a mild interest.
