slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15

Cretien uses that distraction to 5' step (down+right, avoiding AoO), then spends a few seconds setting up his turret.

Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
Johnathan screams again when the tremor strikes. He sobs and mutters loudly in a strange language, but keeps fighting, some spark of determination in him refusing to die.
"Ee'lw'nafh kadishtu throd'ebumna, fm'latgh! fm'latgh!"
Destruction foretold wrought upon shattered earth, burning! burning!
Withdraw action to move by Angus, lining up for a Color Spray on the approaching east-most gardeners.

Cretien Dufrene |
the map showed him having 5ft between him and any enemies...
Cretien Dufrene |
ah, i thought he was an ally, as i recognized that avatar from the boards.
In that case, i will 5ft step south and fire instead at the gardener north of me.
also my mechanus should be getting AoOs (only 1 per round) when people are moving all around him. I think this gets overlooked when he doesnt have a token on the map. Not trying to be picky, but i need all the help i can get putting people down when i am at 3hp.
Falko Escheus |
Falko grabs the mayor and drags him back towards where Delft is located: "Sir! Would you mind stabbing those in the way? That would be splendid!"
Put him on my back or drag him, whatever makes sense, then move to where Deflt is, to avoid AoO.
Once he reaches him, he adds: "Still no on the retreat order?"
GMEDWIN |

Sarya
Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
Seeing the gardeners he was preparing to Color Spray retreat, Johnathan runs back over to Cretien and Sarya, stopping short seeing the enemy there.
He aims the crossbow at her, couched under one arm, and fills his other cupped palm with bubbling acid. He shouts above the melee of combat.
"The Mayor is defeated and the earth under our feet is collapsing, this is over! Surrender and let's all get out of here."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Cretien might be surprised that the awkward boy he first met has changed quite a bit, even if he does have some of the same quirks. He looks older, more tired--and right now dangerous. His growing power is actually a little worrying, given how unstable he is. A crossbow bolt fired in a panic today, but years from now it could be a building destroyed.
Cretien Dufrene |
Cretien's Turn
Cretien's mechanus attacks the woman nearest him

Combat Over
Delft walks moves to Macbannin and slaps on some Mage cuffs to prevent him from casting any spells, he then pours a potion of CLW in to his mouth and says, "He should be up now."
The mayor comes groggily to, and says "drats!"
Cretien Dufrene |
Cretien looks to the boy, Jonathan, seeing him as more and more of a young man. "How best to get rid of this mess?" he asks of the youth.
GMEDWIN |
Macbannin speaks up "Constables, I did not know there would be such catatrophal failure but if the flow of witchoil in my lab isn’t stopped, the whole mountain will collapse, releasing all the evil spirits trapped within. It could destroy the Parity Lake and NORTH SHORE districts completely!!!!!!! I know best how to fix allow me to help."
Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
Johnathan turns his eerily piercing eyes to the Mayor.
"He didn't want these tremors and collapses, but he did want the witchoil. I think we can trust him to stop the tremors, but no further than that."
Shaking his head, he looks to Delft.
"We might die in the process. Sayra and the Bravura should leave...no reason for them to sacrifice themselves. But I'm ready, sir, send us in."
Sarya the Dream Merchant |
@Bravura"Companion I advise keeping the mayor under arm and club, if he tries to escape I want to see his brain in the canal."
intimidate (mayor)1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
@party, Sarya snorts at Johnathan's suggestion. "I am accompanying you like it or not, the dream merchants need customers and they can't buy anything if they are dead!"
"And besides, "Dream merchant saves the city!" Will be exceptionally good publicity".
Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
Johnathan salutes Delft sharply, a grim resignation in his eyes, like he knows they're not making it back out. "Off to take a nap, sir?" He smiles slightly, keeping out of reach of Delft's cane.
The weary young man looks back at the apocalyptic scene and takes a breath, steeling himself, then jabs the Mayor in the back with the loaded crossbow. "Lead on."
He nods to Cretien, "Back we go into certain death. May the fates smile on you, Professor."
Cretien Dufrene |
"You see our deaths? Or just being grim?"
Johnathan Eli Holbrook |
"Both my visions and the skyseers words warn that no one should go near Cauldron Hill, that great destruction and death await there. Maybe I was being dramatic--but we're going against all omens."
He wipes a spatter of blood from his cheek and looks at his hand, unsure when during the battle with the mayor that had happened.
"Besides, what will this be, the third time we've faced certain death? We seem to have a knack for getting out alive." He grins at Cretien.
Then smiles sadly at Falko.
Cretien Dufrene |
"True, and once again, I am gravely wounded. Does anyone have something to heal wounds?" i am at 3hp
Cretien Dufrene |
"Haven't enjoyed a drink like that since yesterday." Cretien says, wiping some blood from above one eye. "Well, I guess we had better get on with it," he adds, packing up his turret.
GMEDWIN |
Delft says, "Gods' speed!"
Macbanin in chains leads the way around the side of the house to what looks like an innocent shed for garden tools and the like and then opens the door with his highly polished loafer and inside you find a metal grate manhole in the floor, hidden by a wooden crate. You open the lid - it leads nowhere, just stone and earth under the shed. There is no way down below.
MacBannin chuckles and he points you to the Cauldron Hill amulets that you remember from a couple of days ago except for Sarya and he says, "Put one on and then put one on me so we can descend into my lab, which is partially in the real world and partially in the Bleak Gate. Yeah dreamie, you can turn back now before you get real dirty. By the way, why did you Berans kill almost all of the dragons. They were such magnificent beasts..."
GMEDWIN |
Potions only have one dose in them. You could ask either Falko or Angus to heal you. The mayor only had one potion on him.
You all put on your amulets and then the bravura says, "I am not going into the bleak gate."
This time you slip through the iron frame into the Bleak Gate - and climb down rungs of a dark shaft until you reach the elevator. You press the call button and wait for the elevator to come.
Falko Escheus |
Falko's face covers with cold sweat.
He's serious! We're going between worlds!?
He grips the iron rungs with a tight grip, afraid to think of what lies below. As the elevator takes its time to come to them, he regains control a bit and manages to ask: "So tell me mayor, how did you manage to put together a lab between worlds. I mean, this is an amazing feat! Is it easy? Can anyone try it in the garden shed?" hoping to lure the mayor into revealing his backers.
Is he that powerful? Did he get help?
Bluff: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Back for two days, then away again for a week.
GMEDWIN |
The mayor says, "Well, there aren't many places in the world where it is as easy this to go to the Bleak Gate. You do know that as opposed to the other mayors of Flint my position is appointed due to my expertise with magic. I have had to pay almost triple for my staff to work here than one would normally pay at Pardwright for the research I am doing here. But to answer your question, theoretically yes but realistically no, you would need to have a great deal of knowledge of the arcane, a plethora of cash and privacy."
The elevator stops at the first underground floor of two and you all get out of the elevator and you see toppled blackboards here which list experiments scheduled in the lab.
There’s enough discarded paper and supplies to suggest a good dozen
people managed to flee here in the past few minutes. The air stinks of burnt oil.
There are two doors going to the east, a northerly door and a southerly door.
