And so it begins...
This first event is a bit unusual and doesn’t translate to pbp well. So it’s going to require a bit of patience from everyone involved. The Fortitude save I asked for determines the order in which your characters wake up. Grimma was highest with her bonus added after the roll, so she wakes up first. Unfortunately, she wakes up to an immediate fight. The rest of you will wake up in descending order of your saves, one per round.
Round 1: Grimma
Round 2: Finn
Round 3: Viata
Round 4: Miles
The NPCs won’t wake up until the battle is over. An exception to all this is if any of you take damage at any point while still asleep, you will wake up immediately and be able to join the battle. I realize this means those of you with the lowest saves (particularly Miles) could have a bit of a wait before being able to join in. You’ll just have to patient.
Everyone awakes wearing whatever clothes you had on while eating, including any armor. The rest of your equipment, including weapons, is in a pile on the beach.
Until everyone awakes, I will be placing the battle in spoiler tags.
During battles, I’ll clearly mark the round number at the beginning of every round, and I’ll indicate who’s up next. Feel free to post your actions for the round before your turn comes up to help speed things along. If you do, I’ll simply wait until your turn to resolve them. If the situation changes before your turn arrives and you wish to change your stated actions, you may do so.
If you have any questions about how I’m handling this and other battles, feel free to ask.
Now on to adventure...

Yikes, the dice aren't in your favor so far, Grimma!
Viata d'Foc |
Remember, when we tell this story later, this thing was at least 10' tall and incredibly armored. Also it breathed fire, because everything is that much better when it breathes fire.

Oh Dice Gawds in the Celestial Bag, please let it be dead!

Friendly Informational Post
I'll be attending Gencon next week from the 14th to the 18th. During this time I'll pretty much be not checking the forums with any sort of regularity. I apologize in advance for this! Please feel free to bot me as necessary during that time to allow the game to continue.

Judging from the fact they're listed in the player's guide and whatnot, it felt like the NPCs might be important. So I made up a spreadsheet to keep track of what we know about them. I figure that's easier than going back through pages of threads. I made it so anyone can edit it. Please feel free to throw in additional notes of what you feel might be good to remember later on.
The spreadsheet can also be found by clicking on my status bar under my name :D

Back from the convention and playing catch up. And boy am I exhausted from it!!
Viata d'Foc |
Sadly no. The group of friends I go down there with are my normal weekly pathfinder group, and they don't feel playing PFS a worthy reason to go to Gencon. I ended up doing a 2 hour Artemis session, a Battlestar Galactica boardgame tournament, and played a game called Fiasco. Still a good time!

Ah, haha, so you were on the ramparts firing war machines. I was playing in the mid-tier running around in the field healing crusaders and getting them back. We stowed in the lower left hand quadrant of the city the whole damn time. We felt like we were the only ones!
A buddy of mine played in the low tier and was beset by a mythic fiendish bee that wreaked havoc. It sounded fabulous.
Aside from PFS, I was at many Paizo seminars and watching Rockband in the arcade room.

I figure most of this would be discussed in character, but wanted to bring discussion over here since mechanics talk vs. RP talk would sound pretty different. Also note if the adventure has any special rules, I apologize for not knowing them (and for good reason!).
It seems to me our concerns at present are.
- Water
- Food
- Shelter
- Rescue
Water So going down that list, I put water at the top. I think Grimma and Finn can both handle that, and if Jask is a cleric (I'm guessing that because of the holy symbol that may be his, but this could be a longshot), that would give a third. We should probably ask him (Viata calls not it!!). So I think water should at least be covered.
Food is the next concern. We have 24 days worth. With Gelik being a gnome, I believe he eats less (1/4 if I recall). Please correct me if I'm wrong on that. Yana should also eat less being Tiny, but in all honesty I have no idea how much there. I'd say we should try to avoid using the food from the Jeneviere and hunt/gather as much as we can for now. The skill on the PRD says it takes from a few hours to a full day for a check, but no other guidance than that, so GMEDWIN's call there. I seem to recall a rule about rolling a check more than the amount needed to feed becoming additional rations for later, but I assume that's a houserule because it's not on the PRD either.
Shelter We probably should explore to find something, or see what we can make. At least something to keep the sun off of us during the day if needed, or rain if it storms.
Rescue Miles already looking at charts covers the first part, where are we. I've been assuming an island, which may well not be the case. Hell, there could be a town 5 miles from here for all we know, and all this discussion is moot. My recommendation is wherever we set up shelter, we set up a base camp, prepare a giant bonfire to light in case of passing ship. That would help if we're on a shipping lane, but if well off of one, who knows what may happen.
So these are just my thoughts on the subject from a mechanical view point (which like I said, I figure we probably discuss on the RP side, the two discussion posts just might sound different). What are your opinions on it?
Viata d'Foc |
Pretty much exactly mine (and Miles') personal list, and in that order. He'll be elated to know about the Create Water.
That's good to know! This is the part where I think I can relate to Viata the most. Being a fairly intelligent individual, I know most of the things I should be concerned about from camping and survival, but implementing those things is an entirely different story. I'd probably be Gilligan, but in a much darker version of the story, lol.
And I did forget item 5 on that list. Cannibal order. Whenever you end up in a survival situation, you always need to know who gets eaten first. Someone dying does trump the list of course, but still good to know.
DISCLAIMER: I do not support cannibalism.
Viata d'Foc |
Miles is kinda beefy for a rogue, so he gets hungry. Frankly, Yana is probably at the top of the list, then Gelik (he'll probably taste a little funny), then one of the NPCs. Or Finn.
Run, Yana!!
Viata d'Foc |
The best part is we all start making our cannibal lists, then we start sharing them with others, but lying to make alliances. In the end, half the group gets killed because we're down to half our rations, lol. Hopefully the guy with Craft (cooking) stays alive long enough to preserve some of the juicy meat.
Also would it really be cannibalism? I mean, there's a few different races presented here. Aerys is the only one with elf-blood, so that'd be like half cannibalism, right?
So Miles, what do Samsaran steaks taste like?
Viata d'Foc |
We have fresh water in supply even if in the area there was no food we can survive for a month.
After all the sea is close => fish and we haven't explored the land area.
=> insect, fruits, trees etc...
To actually address this point, those are all perfectly plausible reasons in game for survival. The difference comes to 1) The mechanics of actually performing these tasks in Pathfinder and, 2) Any special rules/considerations we need to take into account.
Acquiring food, be it fishing/hunting/trapping/gathering/what have you all boild down to a survival check in Pathfinder. Now we could do the take 10 if we all have positive wisdom modifiers (if allowed in this situation). But that takes time. Also it may be modified, or even negated. There may be sharks in the water that prevent us from fishing, or other aquatic life we don't know about. Or it could be so easy we don't even have to make checks.
That's why I listed a plan to start us off. So we have an idea what to do and to avoid the stagnation that comes when actions are left for the players to decide (way to easy to get into that lull, as I have witnessed and been guilty of!).
So I say, since we have time, Miles explore charts while the rest of us (PCs and NPCs both) see about doing some fishing and gathering. I know I have a couple fishhooks from my Pathfinder's kit.

So the rules for setting up basecamp, hunting or fishing or whatever. In character tell me what you want to do and give me a D20 roll and I will add the modifer and then give a standard one for each time.
Taking 10 won't be allowed for gathering food but you can do that for gathering water.
