Nikomedos |
Niko looks up from where he's come to rest, leaning against a post. A pained look is on his face, and he's clearly bleeding--somewhat heavily--from his shoulder and chest, but he forces a grin. "It's what I do, Sheriff. Don't--don't suppose they had a bounty on 'em? Least... that one?" He gestures vaguely toward the man he shot from a horse.
Doctor Devon McBride |
Devon hurries to Niko, If someone would get my bag from my room at the inn? And start boiling some water, clean cloths!
Devon quickly rips one of Niko's sleeves off and folds it into a pad, pushing it against the worst of the wounds. Looks like its just a scratch, another scar to join the ones you've collected so far.
Nikomedos |
Niko chuckles and winks at Devon. "Ah, give it to me... give it to me straight, Doc. I've been shot before. It ain't a scratch when it feels like this."
When Devon rips one of his sleeves to staunch the bleeding, the Greek chuckles again, and shakes his head if Devon gives him a questioning look. "Just thinking how much I--ngh--paid for this shirt. Guess I'll be buying a new one."
Lucas Brill |
Lucas stumbles over to the man he just killed. This wasn't supposed to happen... I promised never to do this again! He vomits out of fear and disgust and makes his way to where Niko is getting treatment.

The sheriff responds to Niko, "If what Mr. Christopher said was correct and that was Mysterious Dave, sometimes called Strange, he would definitely have a bounty on his head. The exact amount I would have to check up on. He normally works up in the Dakota territory. I have to send a runner. If you can bring him in there is definitely some serious money in it for you."
One of the residents goes into the hotel and fetched some water and all of the other things Dr. requested.

XP so far, since BH is so deadly it makes sense to hand out XP. You each get 20pts for helping get away from the Shotgun wedding. 20pts dealing with the horses, 50 pts for surviving the gunfight and 10pts for those who got the kill shots. And everyone gets 80 for bringing in two criminals.
Doctor Devon McBride |
Damn these deplorable conditions!
vs medicine 6: 1d20 ⇒ 1 Niko receives care!
vs medicine 6: 1d20 ⇒ 6 Lucas receives care!
vs medicine 6: 1d20 ⇒ 13 Erik... well, umm, sorry, out of bandages. Come back tomorrow?

Those of you who have injuries make their way back to the hotel to get some rest. The others help the sheriff bring the bandits into the jail.
The sheriff takes you off to the side and says, "Does one of you want to take a run at one of them to figure out where Dave is holed up?"
Doctor Devon McBride |
The Doc had seen to those he could help immediately, rest was what they needed now, and good food. He'd kept his black bag and followed as the bank robbers were led to the jail.
At the sheriff's comment, he gently set his black bag on the top of the desk. He opened the bag slowly. He sighed gently and pulled the bonesaw out, tilted it slightly from side to side, studying the teeth of the blade before setting it on top of the desk, in view of the bandits. He reaches and pulls out a roll of cloth, tied with a silk ribbon. He gently sets the roll down and reverently pulls the silk ribbon loose. As he unrolls the fabric, gleaming steel handles glint. He pulls a pair of forceps, long wicked prongs stick out on either side of a harsh drill sticking out between them. Well sheriff, the war often required unsavory methods of encouraging captured personnel to share their story. He replaces the forceps and next slides out a long gleaming, curved scalpel, razor sharp and near four inches long. The benefit of medical training was knowing how to keep the prisoner alive while giving them a glimpse of hell.
He next pulls out a mechanical contraption, a turnkey sticks out of one end while a drill extends from the opposite side of a small drum. Gripping the drum firmly, Devon gives the turnkey a few twists. Click, click, click. A faint clicking is heard as he ratchets the turnkey a few more times before releasing the turnkey. The racketing of gears turning fills the air with a hum as the drill bit starts spinning. Twenty seconds later the gears run down and Devon places the clockwork drill on the table.
He's not yet looked at any of the bandits, remaining focused on laying out his tools. He walks across the room and picks up a chair, moving it to a few feet from the desk and carefully placing the chair just so. You're going to want a couple of buckets. It's rarely the first guy. Why, once I went through half a platoon before someone got smart.
Devon didn't look at the bandits, he simply stared at the wall as he slowly, and carefully rolled his sleeves. He was careful to fold each sleeve evenly, until his forearms were bared.
Once his sleeves were rolled up, and his tools laid out, he looked at the chair, and shifted it a couple of inches to one side. Devon finally looks to the bandits, who's first?
Erik Volker |
Erik tries to hold still while the doc tends to his wounds. He grits his teeth and writhes in pain as the doc tries to remove the bullets. "Doc, this hurts just as much as getting shot. How much longer this gonna take?" he says, sweat starting to bead up on his brow. After a few minutes, Devon stops, unsuccessful at removing the bullets. "All that fer nothin? Ya can't leave those things in me, can you? When can you try again? How about somethin for the pain?" he says between gritted teeth. "Guess I'll be staying here a while longer. I'll be at the hotel when you have a chance to try again."
Doctor Devon McBride |
Guess you're first then. I do appreciate your volunteering. Hopefully your sacrifice will endear one of your companions to share what little information they may have. Why, one of them may even start speaking quickly enough to save your sorry hide.
Doc waves for the bandit to be tied to the chair. Oh, I don't want anything from you. You just get to sit here and experience. It's your companions that I'm interested in what your plans were. Where this mystery Dave will be heading to, and how many men he has.
Assuming the bandit is securely tied to the chair, Devon picks up one of his scalpels and approaches the bandit. Now hold still, I don't want you to start bleeding just yet. Devon starts cutting the man's shirt off, carefully so as to not nick the guy, just let him feel the back of the blade slide across his skin.
Doctor Devon McBride |
Anyone have a map of the area?
Devon sighs, I was so looking forward to practicing a new surgical procedure.
Devon steps back from the bandit and replaces the scalpel with the other tools. He leaves them out and in view as he moves around behind the bandit.

Lucas and Charlie mount some horses provided by the sheriff and make their way out into the territory surrounding Dead Mule. After about two hours you spot the cave where the information was given to. In front of the cave is a two large bushes and a lot of twigs.
Lucas and Charlie, I need an Observation roll.
The rest, in spite of your condition you make yourselves downstairs to have dinner and to partake in some of the gambling festivities. You see the old man and woman from before drinking Mezcal in the corner and an interesting game of Faro being played as well.
