GM Eddv |
Hugo marches on his way taking a mostly straightforward path and finds quickly - a pit trap beneath his feet!
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
He manages to jump out of the way of the pit trap leaving an easily passed with a jump or rope pit for the group to traverse.
He then pivots and finds himself once more....with the floor giving way beneath him
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
This time Hugo is less successful, falling down in the pit.
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
He falls and dusts himself up a bit but is otherwise fine.
There is a mechanism here where you are supposed to search the room. In person this takes around 10 seconds but PbP I have had it take the better part of a week so I am skipping it
Hugo, a little worse for wear, makes it to the door on the otherside and opens it, the rest of the group able to avoid the pits he "found".
There are multiple ways to go behind the door, but the wailing is coming from the room I have marked with a little lightning bolt.
Daereon Phoenixstar |
Does the wailing sound human?
Capone~ |
Capone waits for the party to deal with the door.
GM Eddv |
Sorry - vacation led to illness and I am behind
Deluge throws open the door just in time for it to stay shut and for a crossbow bolt to shoot out at him
CROSSBOW: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 51d10 ⇒ 9
The voice behind the door does indeed sound human. It wailing and screaming and he is clearly holding the door shut.
Hugo Bearbane |
No worries - been there... hope you are feeling better now!
Hugo says "Stop crying like wolf pup! Coming in!"
He tries to push his way in. (Hugo's form of diplomacy)
Strength check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
GM Eddv |
Hugo finds the door to be made of sturdier stuff than he was expected and is repelled.
Deluge-Core |
"Stubborn goat."
"Look fellow, are you going to sit in there until you starve or are you going let us help you. Or do you think we are undead? Do we look like undead? Do undead drink?"
Deluge pulls out some nasty smelling fermented goats milk and takes a chug.
"Do undead eat?"
Deluge pulls out an apple and starts munching NOISILY and belches.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
"We are the poor saps that they sent to do this ceremony thing, which has obviously gone very bad. We bumped off a few animated skeletons and found a few corpses along the way, but the way out is clear if you can get a grip."
Daereon Phoenixstar |
The sorcerer raises an eyebrow Let us listen to him, he might be unhinged
Meran Thanlos |
"Come on fellow. Let us in. We aren't going to hurt you. We have a cleric with us for Pharasma's sake."
Diplomacy Aid: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
GM Eddv |
responding to the prodding of Deluge - responding particularly to the bits with the belches and the mention of the town and ritual manages to calm him down.
He looks almost wild, his hair mussed up and his eyes sunken hollow of despair and he opens the door.
Were 6 of us he mutters
Was here to set up the traps and the fun - the fun and the traps for the ...for the ritual.
He looks shocked and shakes as he whispers something about "The one with with the voice of death" and "the walking bones stalking and destroying the villagers."
Just as he begins to lose all semblance of coherence his eyes widen DIMIRA!
" MY SISTER...she's alive the bones took her...they TOOOK her" he wails in desperation.
Capone~ |
"They took your sister where? And what happened to the rest of them?" Capone inquires.
Daereon Phoenixstar |
Know Religion 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 to see if he knows what the mad man might be talking about
GM Eddv |
DOWN BELOW
He shouts in a panic.
The Ancient Voice Down Below....
Deluge-Core |
"Ancient voice? Down below? Do you mean at the bottom of some steps? Can you point them, I mean us, in the right direction?"
Meran Thanlos |
"Calm down. We'll help your sister." If we can. "What is her name? What does she look like?" Meran checks out the room while she speaks to the man.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
GM Eddv |
He seems a bit too far gone to specifically answer questions like these things with one exception - the name of his sister.
D-dimira. her name is Dimira. Dragged off by bones! Go SAVE He shoves his big crossbow into Deluge's hands. And sit back down in a ball.
In the room there are bedrolls - one for each of you with your names on them, with a pair of bullseye lanterns, 4 flasks of oil, a trail ration for each of you, and two potions labeled 'heeling'.
It seems this chamber was intended to be a resting place for you to stay the night if you needed.
GM Eddv |
If you have no further acts here, let me know where to next.
Meran Thanlos |
Meran follows Hugo shortbow at the ready. "No sure it will do any good against "bones", but I feel better having it ready." She comments about her bow as the group heads out.
GM Eddv |
This small chamber is mostly empty, save for the body of a
villager sprawled in the center and the yellow and brown beetle perched on its body enjoying its dinner.
Deluge-Core |
"I don't suppose I can convince you all to leave the beetle alone?"
Or the beetle to leave us alone!
Daereon Phoenixstar |
There is no need to attack the beetle. he says.
GM Eddv |
The beetle however may not be as inclined to leave you alone - it is agitated and feeling territorial!
Deluge can attempt a Wild Empathy if he would like to mollify it.
Deluge-Core |
Deluge casts guidance and gets an idea. He takes out some of his fermented goats milk and splashes it around a bit.
"They like the smell"
Wild empathy: 1d20 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 + 1 = 24
... and indeed, miraculously, it seems to work, though the rest of the party may not feel the same way as Deluge or the Beetle.
"It would be more effective if we all douses ourselves, but, unfortunately, I do not have enough for that."
Capone~ |
"That's gross... but academically I see no reason to disrupt the natural wildlife inside here. I shall follow your lead, Deluge."
GM Eddv |
Deluge and his stinky, stinky milk seems to have mollified the territorial beetle who will now allow you to pass!
Hugo continues on to the next door presumably and finds another chamber
The remains of a small fire smolder in the center of this broad
chamber, letting off a plume of oily smoke. Fed by a heap of
burning gear, debris, and more than few bones, the fire casts a
flickering light across the walls of this room, partially obscured
by the veil of smoke.
The smoke is thick and gives a -2 penalty to all perception and attack rolls.
Smoke Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Daereon: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Meran: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Capone: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22

"Can you enter the room? What's in the smoke?"
Delay.
Daereon Phoenixstar |
The sorcerer will cast detect magic.
GM Eddv |
Capone :
For every 5 you beat the DC by you can ask me for more information
GM Eddv |
Daereon senses magic coming from the base of the fire right beneath where the smoke currently is.
Meran Thanlos |
Know Religion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Meran studies the smoke. "It's not smoke it's an incorporeal creature that can drain strength with a touch." She pulls out her wand of burning hands. "Don't know if this will work, but it's worth a try."
Resistances and Weaknesses, please.
GM Eddv |
It has some channel resistance.
Like all undead it is immune to anything mind affection.
It is thus only susceptible to magic.
Mundane weapons pass right through them, while magic weapons deal 50% of their normal damage.
I am counting a free and move action there Meran. Anything else?
Deluge-Core |
I believe CLW does full damage to them so if you have a wand you can always use that.
Capone~ |
Capone going against a shadow is not going to be a pretty sight.
Standard Action
Capone converts a Bane into a Cure Light Wounds.
Move Action
He moves towards the shadow and unleashes his spell.
Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
He misses with the touch but holds the charge.
Hugo Bearbane |
"What is smoke? Does Hugo smash it?"
Not really clear on what to do, Hugo delays.
In truth, there is nothing Hugo can do here, but if someone tells him it is an enemy, he will charge in and wear himself out trying.
Daereon Phoenixstar |
This might get ugly
GM Eddv |
The smoky wisp reaches a shadowy cold tendril out to Capone....seeking to sap the life from him.
Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d6 ⇒ 1
Capone is able to JUST BARELY dodge the creature

Hugo - DELAY
Deluge-Core |
Deluge casts Shillelagh and tries to push his way into the room past Hugo, who seems to be taking his bloody time getting into the room.
[i]First time I've seen a barbarian hesitate. Perhaps he does not have stout wood such as I?{/b] I like that he hesitated though. I mean, its just smoke, right!
"Good stout wood is what is needed here!"
Capone~ |
Standard Action
Capone again tries to touch with his held charge of Cure Light Wounds.
Cure Light Wounds Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
"Darn it, hold still!"
Non-Action
Capone takes a step back.
