The floating droid moves around the room, recording the audio files as well as the group's actions via its video camera.
Telion of Castrovel |
"Sounds like they jumped off the ship, but could be hiding out on the rock itself, hitching a ride back here where someone could rescue them. Wouldn't have been much of a trip if they flew into a star. Wish they had said more about that 'something else' though.
"Let's see if we can root it out and neutralize it before we head out to the rock. Comms didn't pick anything up from the rock so I have a bad feeling that things didn't go well once they abandoned the ship."
Diamaante |
"We still need to locate the ambassador's package as well. I'm ready when you are! Let's sweep the rooms up here first and work our way to the stern."
August Vydoc |
August shakes his helmeted head and his altered voice does nothing to conceal his hope for survivors.
"If they did go to the rock what are the chances they could have held out this long? Most spacesuits carry 1 to 2 days of air at most. Even if they took extra environmental packs they've probably died of dehydration - if whatever wasn't the akatas didn't follow them back."
He'll download all the logs to turn into Nor and checks the charge on his arc pistol.
Did August find the manifest showing where Nor's package was during any of his searches?
"Telion's right though. First thing we need to do is finish liquifying these akatas and securing the Acreon. Then we'll need to go down to the asteroid and find the crew. Or what's left of them."
August will tilt his head as he looks at the solarion.
"Are you going to be good to keep going or do we need to send you back to the Station for treatment?"
Telion of Castrovel |
"I'll be fine, I'm just going to try to actually hit the nasty little things this time instead of flailing about uselessly."
GM Dinketry |
August finds the ship manifest, detailing the contents of two separate cargo holds on the ship - starboard and port.
Diamaante |
Looking over August's shoulder, Diamaante points to the line that reads "ShipBox8." "There! That's what the ambassador is after. Let's go."
Jaxom "Exo-G" Sandstrom |
”Maybe they jury rigged some sort of power unit, and they have been conserving power for life support, and not ‘wasting’ it on Comms? Any of that stuff things we intend to take back, besides what Nor wants? Are we salvaging the ship?”
Diamaante |
Diamaante shrugs. "I don't really know about mining equipment. If anything is valuable or lightweight, we can definitely take it with us. No sense letting it go to waste!"
GM Dinketry |
The crew prepare to leave the bridge and head for the port cargo hold.
I've marked your destination on the map. I'll await your movements.
GM Dinketry |
Idar re-opens the door to the main hallway of the ship, the lighting and atmosphere now restored. Jaxom gets up from his game of Drift Invaders to join the kasatha.
Anyone else?
GM Dinketry |
Map updated - everyone has been placed in their relative positions.
Idar opens the door, expecting the worst. The large chamber seems devoid of inhabitants and contains much of the ship’s supplies - extra food and water stores, replacement air filters, spare parts, and the like. There are a few sturdy high-density plastic shipping containers, and the largest (approximately 8 feet square) is addressed to 'Eoxian Embassy on Absalom Station'.
Diamaante |
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Diamaante looks around the chamber before inspecting the container. "This must be it. Should we crack it open and peek inside? Or just bring it in sight unseen?" She communicates telepathically so the recording drone can't overhear, though her companions' responses will be audible.
Telion of Castrovel |
"For some reason I thought it'd be... smaller. We're going to have to bring the ship in for proper docking I think. I don't want to try to chuck this across the gap."
Woo, the map loaded! Moved myself up for a closer look.
August Vydoc |
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
August will look for any external clues as to the nature of the package - power sources, life support systems, a bill of lading, etc.
He'll quickly pull out his commlink and pretend to be using it to inspect the package.
"This is a lot bigger than a 'mere' package. I'm not sure we want to be shipping back a nuclear device or some forbidden exotic item. I'm definitely sure we don't want our interaction on camera if we can avoid it. Any chance any of you can lure that camera-bot outside to another room?"
Telion of Castrovel |
Telion replied to the group telepathically, "I'm more concerned that it's a person, despite what the ambassador said. Though I suppose it could be a crate of people's... leftovers... that they signed away for their use? I had a buddy that signed one of those contracts." Then, tentatively, he sent out a simple thought towards any possible prisoners in the box, "Anyone in there?"
GM Dinketry |
August, you see nothing on the outside of the case (think of it like a huge Pelican case) that indicates what's inside, or instructions on how to get it open.
August Vydoc |
"You ever hear of the Vesk Statue? The Vesk put a super soldier in suspended animation and coated him in a solution that looked like a bronze soldier complete with stylized plasma cannon. They gave him as a gift to the planetary despot on Solustaran IV who put it in his throne room to show how the dumb, scary Vesk respected him."
"One fine court day the Vesk woke up and used his bronze painted weaponry to annihilate the court. The Vesk conquered the planet because the brass in the throne room couldn't activate the defenses and none of the underlings wanted to "accidentally" start a war with the Veskarium and get messily executed."
"Bottom line, don't move s+@+ around without knowing what it is."
Engineering to open?
GM Dinketry |
Yes, August, it'd be an Engineering check to open. If you wanted, you could attempt a more difficult Engineering check to 'steam open the edges of the envelope' and open the case without anyone knowing that you had opened it, constant video-recording drone-bot notwithstanding, of course.
Telion of Castrovel |
"Idar, let's check the other hold across the hall. The manifest didn't mention anything, but there could be more of those blue things lurking."
Diamaante |
Knowing that the cambot is following her, Diamaante joins Idar and Telion, hoping that the drone will continue to stick by her side.
I'm ready for one of the beefy boys to open the door.
GM Dinketry |
I'll move Jaxom halfway in between August who has not left the port cargo hold, and the rest of the crew, who have moved to the starboard cargo hold (as he asked in a previous post to keep him moving with the party).
Idar opens the door to what appears to be the starboard cargo hold. This large room contains a small science lab, compact mining equipment, and collected rock samples. Your attention is drawn however to two of the horrific akata circling each other silently within the hold. They react immediately upon Idar opening the door.
COMBAT START!
Diamaante Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (8) + 0 = 8
Idar Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Jaxom Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Telion Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Akata A Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Akata B Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Prepped though he is for trouble, the kasatha still doesn't get his attack off before the first akata closes the distance and attempts to bite him.
Melee Attack on Idar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 151d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 MISS!
Idar's armour deflects the hungry beast's fangs.
Idar, August, and Telion may act!
Telion of Castrovel |
As the tentacled beast rushed the group, Telion's gauntlet flared and pulsed with light. As soon as Idar was clear, the lashunta did his best to drive it back.
Looks like I have a clear attack from where I am, so I'll full attack. If the doorway provides cover from where I am, please just take the first attack and I'll guarded step to a better spot.
Fist 1: 1d20 + 5 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 1 - 4 = 4
Fist 2: 1d20 + 5 - 1 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 5 - 1 - 4 = 4
Well, I provide a +1 to hit with ranged attacks at least. Also, Photon 1.
GM Dinketry |
Idar blasts into the nightmarish creature, scoring a solid hit. The solarian pumps with his light-infused fists twice, unable to land a hit.
Awaiting August.
Diamaante |
Tactical Pistol vs. KAC, Full Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 19
Crit Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6
Tactical Pistol vs. KAC, Full Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 11
Diamaante swiftly raises her pistol and fires two shots at the akata.
GM Dinketry |
Diamaante's initial blast scores a big hole in the akata's shoulder, though the second blast misses.
Awaiting Jaxom.
