GM Dinketry |
Diamaante opens the internal airlock door onto what appears to be the main corridor of the ship. It seems to run the entire starboard-to-port width of the ship, intersecting with a further corridor halfway down. Low-light conditions persist as flickering fluorescent lights emanating near the bottom of the wall panels to the floor cast unnerving shadows. Signs of battle—bullet holes, scorch marks, smears of blood—pepper the walls and floors. Two doors open off the hallway, one before the intersection, and one after. A small body in a space suit lies sprawled on the floor in the middle of the junction.
Diamaante |
Diamaante points at the body. "Let's go check it out. Keep your eyes open and your weapons hot."
She draws her tactical pistol and waits for the tougher members of the group to advance before following behind them.
Ideally, Idar and Telion should take point, followed by August and I, followed by Jaxom.
Telion of Castrovel |
Telion pulled himself through the hatch, unclasped his tether and shuffled past the others to lead the way into the derelict vessel.
Telion approached the small body for a closer look, then poked his head around the corner of the intersection.
I don't have permissions to move my marker on the map, so if someone else could that'd be great.
August Vydoc |
Apparently chemical cartridges work in space! Yes I looked that up.
"Yes, he is charming. Good info broker too."
August covers the corpse (because he's paranoid) with his pistol and checks it for information - a name tag, race/sex, obvious wounds - and documents it with his commlink.
Take 10 on Perception & Medicine for 17.
Idar the Houseless |
Just to be clear, we're wearing space suits over our armor? Also, do we have gravity?
Idar unslings his laser cannon, keeping it pointed down the corridor. The vacuum silences the noise of it charging. Something was fighting in here, and there is no reason to assume everything is dead.
He does not proceed up to the central junction yet. The is a door on the left of the corridor, he'll check that first. No unknowns between them and their ride home, please.
August Vydoc |
August is but then he bought a space suit (I think ahead on my elaborate disguises). I assume that if you didn't buy a space suit you're using your armor as a space suit which can you do.
GM Dinketry |
Sorry about the map, folks. It's now in edit mode.
The Hippocampus was outfitted with spacesuits specifically designed for spacewalks. You're all wearing them over your armour save for August, who's wearing his own. Their is gravity on board the Acreon but no environment.
Telion and August approach the facedown figure in the spacesuit at the intersection of the corridors while Idar advances on the near door. Telion turns the figure over, revealing what once was a goblinoid face as its spacesuit helm falls away. Its lower jaw has been hideously dislocated inferiorly and a large blue-grey tongue protrudes from its mouth around a maw of teeth.
In a heartbeat, the thing's eyes snap open, revealing large inky-black pupils the colour of the void. It lunges at Telion!
I'm ruling that Telion and August get in on the surprise round. Everyone else will go in regular initiative.
Diamaante Initiative: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (12) + 0 = 12
Idar Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Jaxom Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Telion Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
It Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Surprise Round!
The thing lunges at Telion, its large tongue thrashing and plunging for his neck!
Feeding Tendril: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 101d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 MISS!
August and Telion may act!
Idar the Houseless |
Well, that explains what the crew of the Acreon had been shooting at.
Shoot it!: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 Pretty good
Low light miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 12 Nope!
Idar fails to predict the motion of a fast-moving target under the flickering lights, and a chunk of bulkhead further down the corridor suddenly flares red-hot at the impact of the invisible laser bolt.
August Vydoc |
"Zombie goblins. Why did it have to be zombie goblins?"
Sense Motive Trick Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Attack vs EAC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Damage (Electricity): 1d6 ⇒ 2
Telion of Castrovel |
"Not dead!" Telion rocked back, but recovered quickly. The solarian's customary purple black energy fist slammed down at the gnashing face.
Fist: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Everyone gets +1 to hit with ranged attacks since I threaten it. If I don't block your shot... which I do... I'll fix that next turn.
GM Dinketry |
Telion, correct me if I'm wrong, but activating your solar weapon is a move action, and attacking is a standard action. Per the Starfinder CRB: "combatants who started the battle aware of their opponents can each take either a standard or move action during the surprise round." By that definition, you wouldn't able to attack during the surprise round, but I'll allow you to use your roll on the AoO that the thing is going to incur at the top of this round.
Idar, you didn't get to attack during the surprise round, but we will use your action that you rolled on your round. You may only move on your turn in this upcoming round.
Telion energises his fist and readies an attack while August grazes the small hideous thing with his laser pistol as the thing's tongue lashes out at Telion but misses.
Round 1!
The thing scurries up off the ground as Telion punches into the floor near it. Intent upon tasting the solarian's flesh, the ghastly tooth-filled thing lashes its tongue at Telion again.
Telion AoO: Miss; August: Not threatening for an AoO with a ranged weapon
Melee Attack on Telion: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d4 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 HIT! - 5 hp dmg, Telion
The thing's tongue punctures Telion's neck, sucking blood from the solarian before whipping back into its maw.
Telion, you take 2 STR damage.
Idar fires a blast that scorches through a bulkhead further down the corridor.
Idar, you get a move action only! August, Telion, Diamaante, and Jaxom get full actions! Remember that there is low-light in effect.

Arc pistol! It's electricity damage. (These things matter.)
Sense Motive (Trick Attack): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
August tries to read the hideous thing attacking Telion but its movements are so wild he fires on reflex.
His arc pistol stabs out with an azure flash that slams into the thing.
"What in the nine hells is that?"
Diamaante |
"Telion! Hang in there, big guy! Don't let this zombie eat your brains!" Diamaante shouts as she rushes forward. She shines the flashlight on the creature, illuminating it for her allies.
Move forward and use inspiring boost, restoring 8 SP to Telion. The flashlight increases the light level in a 20-foot cone, so the monster should be in normal light now.
Idar the Houseless |
Idar, you didn't get to attack during the surprise round, but we will use your action that you rolled on your round. You may only move on your turn in this upcoming round.
Idar, you get a move action only!
I don't think Idar has anywhere to go, and I can't think of any of his gear that would be super useful at the moment, so no move action.
GM Dinketry |
The creature is illuminated in Diamaante’s flashlight as Jaxom attempts an arcane spell. Jaxom’s spell seems to have no effect on the creature as August’s electric arc blasts through it once more.
Awaiting Telion’s action.

August seems to hang frozen in the air with his pistol spitting lightning at an eldritch horror on a ghost ship. It's very dramatic but he hopes to snap back into action after the freeze frame ends.
GM Dinketry |
OK, GM-Bot for Telion...
"Still not dead!" Telion's telepathic voice reaches you all as he sidesteps ahead of August and slams his fist down on the thing's head. His purple-black fist grows a bit darker.
Attack. Charging graviton phase. 5 foot step. Not in that order.
Telion Melee Attack, -2 STR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 MISS!
The solarian's fist misses the shorter creature.
Round 2!
GM roll: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
As silent as death, a black form drops from the ceiling of the hallway to the aft - the hallway that Telion just stepped into. Tentacles too numerous to count writhe around a dog-like maw topped with beady yellow eyes. With a preternatural quickness, it sandwiches Telion in between the undead goblin and its toothy maw.
I've interpreted Telion's statement above (in his last post) to mean that he was going to get out of people's way in the next combat round. I assure you all that this thing was planning to drop from the ceiling this round - hence, me delaying a long time to try to allow Telion to post instead of the GM setting him up for a flank. SORRY.
Melee Attack on Telion, Flank: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 = 281d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 HIT! - 3 hp dmg, Telion
Telion suddenly feels a freezing cold emanating from the bite on his leg in waves.
Telion Fortitude Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
The goblin-esque creature turns his attentions to August, hammering at the android with his flailing limbs.
Melee Attack on August: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 HIT! - 6 hp dmg, August
The thing succeeds in ringing August's bell inside his space helmet, its blood-tipped tongue lolling from its mouth.
Everyone may act!
Diamaante |
"August, stay strong! We're here to help!" Diamaante shouts. "Everybody, take out the goblin-thing first. Get 'em, boys!"
Use inspiring boost on August as a standard action. He recovers up to 8 SP. Use get 'em on the goblin-monster as a move action. Everybody gains +1 to attack it until the start of my next round.
August Vydoc |
August steps back from the thing with a guarded step as part of his study of the monster then tries to line up the perfect shot.
Sense Motive Trick Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17 One day. One day.
Attack (Arc Pistol): 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 = 22
Damage (Arc Pistol): 1d6 ⇒ 3 Ten total damage, not bad if I do say so myself.
Lightning screams out the coils of the arc pistol and hammers into the goblin-zombie-thing again.
"Gods dammit! Forget staying strong, after we torch these things I say we go back to the Hippocampus and detonate this damn nest of monsters from a safe distance."
No chance Culture identifies these monsters I take it?
GM Dinketry |
It's a Life Sciences check to identify either one of the two creatures.
August successfully sizzles away more of the dead goblin-thing.
Idar, Telion, and Jaxom may act!
Telion of Castrovel |
Telion took a quick step back so he could keep his eyes on both the goblinoid and the blue quadruped, then slammed his fist towards the former. As it impacted, the deep purple flared to life with an internal orange glow.
Switching to photon attunement (1).
Fist: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22, Damage (B): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
GM Dinketry |
The solarian's fist begins glowing similarly to Diamaante's flashlight and Telion punches into the dead-goblin's face, shattering both eye sockets in a spray of blood and gore. The thing still remains on its feet, tongue snaking around independent of the rest of its body.
Jaxom, you may act!
Jaxom "Exo-G" Sandstrom |
Jaxom moves ahead of Diamaante to eliminate the cover, and fires at the goblin corpse...
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 181d4 ⇒ 1 Fire, Burn 1d4
Can someone move me on the map?
GM Dinketry |
Jaxom blasts a hole straight through the dead goblin's sunken head. It drops like a sack of space potatoes.
22 damage, to be exact, and it was already dead. Round 3!
The dog-like thing with tentacles around its head darts forward, slavering jaw aimed at Telion!
Melee Attack on Telion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 191d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 MISS!
The dark form misses Telion's attack, perhaps distracted by the now-glowing fist of the solarian.
Idar, August, Diamaante, Telion, and Jaxom may act!
Diamaante |
Diamaante moves forward and brings her pistol to bear as she fires on the blue alien.
Tactical Pistol: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 91d6 ⇒ 3
GM Dinketry |
Diamaante's bullet caroms off a corridor panel and into the ceiling, missing the blue-black thing.
Jaxom, Idar, Telion, and August may act!
Jaxom "Exo-G" Sandstrom |
Can someone move me on the map? Last round, I wanted ahead of D. Not sure what that does for us now.
Jaxom fires twice more at the goblin shape.
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 - 4 = 11d4 ⇒ 2 Fire, Burn 1d4
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 4 = 131d4 ⇒ 4 Fire, Burn 1d4
GM Dinketry |
Jaxom, firing on something within melee range - where you would have fired from had you not been moved - would provoke AoOs normally. Nevertheless, I've moved you as part of the end of your last round action, but since you're firing now into a now-truly-dead corpse, you invoke no AoOs.
Jaxom unloads his laser pistol into the now-still goblin corpse, missing wildly once, but searing the dead thing's flesh further.
Telion is moving house, everyone, so I'll GM-Bot!
The solarian's fist glows brighter as his power swells. He swings an uppercut at the many-legged blue-black horror as Idar's bullet grazes its hindquarters.
"Thanks!" Telion manages as the crew finish off the deformed goblin corpse.
Photon attunement (2)
GM-Bot Melee Attack on Thing #2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 HIT!
Telion connects solidly.
Round 4!
The thing's mouth slavers open, but it makes no noise, no sound, as it pounces upon Telion.
Melee Attack on Telion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 261d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 HIT! - 5 hp dmg, Telion
The thing bites into Telion's torso, leaving tendrils of blue-black dripping from the wound.
Everyone may act!
Diamaante |
Diamaante fires two shots at the blue meanie. "Jaxom! Focus on the one that's still moving!"
Tactical Pistol, Full Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 5
Tactical Pistol, Full Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 151d6 ⇒ 6
Telion of Castrovel |
Telion stepped back from both the beast and his friends, then slammed his fist into the deck. The light that had been growing within his energy fist suddenly erupted in a massive solar flare, scorching everything within 10 feet of the lashunta before extinguishing.
Supernova (Fire, DC 14 Reflex, half): 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 2) + 1 = 5
August Vydoc |
Did I not get a round 3 attack? If so here's two!
Trick Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 Eh, maybe?
Attack (Static Arc Pistol): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 Also maybe? EAC's are wonky.
Damage (Static Arc Pistol): 1d6 + 1d4 ⇒ (3) + (1) = 4
Trick Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 Nope
Attack (Static Arc Pistol): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23 Yep.
Damage (Static Arc Pistol): 1d6 ⇒ 1
World beating here.
Jaxom "Exo-G" Sandstrom |
Confident that the goblin is really dead now, Jaxom fires twice at the remaining foe.
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 - 4 = 121d4 ⇒ 3 Fire, Burn 1d4
Azimuth Laser Pistol: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 - 4 = 81d4 ⇒ 1 Fire, Burn 1d4
GM Dinketry |
Diamaante and Idar let loose a fusillade of bullets at the space-black thing, scoring two serious hits to the still-wriggling creature. Telion steps back and brings down his supernova fist into the deck.
BWOOOOOSH!
When the corona of light fades, the creature appears untouched by the flames. A laser blast from Jaxom fires into the creature, but also seems similarly absorbed without damage.
August fires his arc pistol twice, landing two electric blasts that paralyse and then topple the foe. As the corpse hits the deck, it begins to sublimate into gas, a blue-black ether seeping upwards from the foe until nothing is left but a greasy black stain on the floor grates near a desiccated-appearing goblin corpse.
COMBAT END! (I've replaced the dead goblin corpse on the map.)
Diamaante |
"Ew. Everybody alright?" Diamaante asks, hanging back in the corridor. "What was that thing? Besides flame retardant, apparently. We might want to avoid lasers for the time being."
August Vydoc |

August checks his pistol charge and keeps his weapon ready.
"Got me but it's definitely not friendly. Anybody not have an alternative to a laser pistol?" August asks a bit smugly with his many weapons covering his body.
Note to self: acquire disintegrator, sonic and cryo pistols soonest. Also figure out way to reliably carry six pistols without looking like a holovid pirate or, failing that, ensure I look like a dashing holovid pirate.
