Idar, I've fired a tractor beam your way via email. We love having you here in the group, but life is life sometimes.
Still (and this goes for everyone), I LOVE the makeup of this group, and I've also been enjoying the somewhat-relaxed method that we've been posting in (save for when I keep trying to swindle Telion out of a RP or two).
Nevertheless, please let this serve as a notice of the fact that I'd like to offer people a chance for us to put our AP on ice when we need to do so. We're not yet to the end of Book 1, but this would be a fine place for y'all to have a breather (though I'm very much enjoying starting to flesh out Jagjug).
If that's the group's wish, then we can come back to this after a few weeks/months. And if not, we'll press forward. I personally would love to still count you amongst the crew, Idar.
Thoughts, all?
Diamaante |
My free time will decline significantly once my second daughter is born in a couple of months. I'd like to at least finish book 1 as well before taking a break.
Telion of Castrovel |
I'm happy with continuing as we have, or putting a small hold on things, whichever works best for people. I like the group dynamic we have going, and I regret that my own posting has been somewhat erratic lately. In addition to my illness last week, this week I'm actually taking leave from work for additional baby bonding, and am actually typing this up with him sleeping on my chest right now.
Rather than burning it all up at once after my son was born, I'm spacing 4 weeks out over the allowed first year, so I can have more experience with him at different stages. He just started giggling last week and he's adorable. :D

Grenades allow a save for half damage and to negate the effects. The DC is 10 + half the item's level + the thrower's Dexterity modifier.
"Explosives have the explode special property, which lists the amount of damage the explosion deals, the damage type, special effects (with a duration, if necessary), and the radius of the explosion. When you attack with this type of weapon or ammunition, aim at a grid intersection. Each creature within the blast radius takes the listed damage but can attempt a Reflex saving throw for half damage. If the explode special property has any special effects other than damage, they are negated with a successful saving throw. Some exploding weapons, such as smoke grenades, don’t deal damage, so they don’t include the damage and damage type entries."
GM Dinketry |
Thanks for that, Diamaante. I'll get everyone's Reflex saves up and check to see what damage that mitigates.
UPDATE: It only mitigated Jaxom's damage, as both Telion and Idar had failed the save previously. It did alter the Initiative Order and the actions of Round 1 substantially, and I was able to edit the post in time.

By all means! I think Idar is the only other person who can use sniper weapons at the moment?
Also I'd love the aeon stone for character reasons - Aigust is precisely the sort to buy this type of item because he doesn't want to be poisoned.
It's no ring of sustenance but it's a great first step.
GM Dinketry |
Congrats to both August and Telion. You have levelled up!
I'll give y'all a break to send me your 3rd level character sheets. Share with the rest of the group something fun that your character gets at 3rd level, please.
(Also, Jaxom and Diamaante are very close. Jagjug is still a bit away from 2nd level.)

Question!
I'm running my own Starfinder game (my enthusiasm for sci-fi RPG's cannot be denied!) and I've introduced an advanced piece of technology I call "the sling" (trademark pending, all rights reserved.).
Basically I let my players attach slings to longarms, heavy weapons and sniper weapons so they can "drop" the weapon as a free action and transition to a small arm as if drawing the weapon normally but, and this is crucial, without actually leaving the two-handed weapon in some random square. I don't allow lanyards because lanyards are not sexy. No one thinks "thank goodness I can attach this lanyard to my pistol!".
Well, mountain climbers, maybe, but why you'd climb a mountain with a pistol is beyond me.
The mechanics remain the same for switching weapons but you don't have to retrieve it if you take cover in the middle of the battle and want to reload your two-handed ranged weapon.
Can we use the same advanced technology in this game?
GM Dinketry |
Advanced technology - I love it.
Yes, I'm all for The Sling (trademark pending, all rights reserved).
August and Telion - you get all of your SPs that you would get from your new level, but not all of your SPs, once you level up.
Telion of Castrovel |
Cool, I'm looking into the level up right now and I've forgotten the procedure. Did we send full leveled up character sheets to you before updating profiles, or just changes?
Telion of Castrovel |
Character sheet is in the mail, or in alternate format in the spoiler in my profile.
For everyone else, Telion picked up a new skill ability that allows him to add 1d6 to either Mysticism or Diplomacy rolls while not in combat, by meditating for 1 minute. He also is ready to give up light armor for something a bit sturdier, once he can find some decent armor and enough atmosphere to get changed.
August Vydoc |
So I get many things at level 3 but mostly:
Operative's Edge becomes +2! I now have +2 to skill checks and +2 to initiative.
Quick movement: my movement speed when wearing light or no armor because 40 ft.
Weapons Specialization: gain weapon specialization feat across all Operative weapons.
Also, emailed sheet, also linked on character profile and updated in string.

My wife and I are expecting the birth of our second daughter any time between now and her due date of July 13th. When that occurs, I will likely be incommunicado for a few days. I will also be taking a month off from work, and since I usually do most of my posting from there, my posts will be sporadic and infrequent during that time. Things should get back to normal when I return to work though.
GM, please feel free to bot me during this time.
Telion of Castrovel |
I meant to post before I left, but I'm traveling until Monday, so I probably won't be able to post, please bot me as needed.
GM Dinketry |
I've realised that I've done afflictions wrong - they work differently in Starfinder!
First off, Diamaante, Jaxom, and Telion - all were damaged by akata - will get a Fortitude save for the new day. I forgot to have you do it at the beginning of the day prior to you lighting out for the Drift Rock.
Telion, you're a special case, as you were damaged multiple times (x3). Afflictions work along tracks now. Technically, you should be at the impaired state, but your GM screwed up. We will resolve things further in the gameplay thread. All of this is on pg 414 in the Core Rulebook.
Telion of Castrovel |
Do diseases stack exposures? The last line of the Poison description (page 415) indicates that's the case for poisons, but I can't find anything about that for diseases.
August Vydoc |
The book doesn't say specifically but for my game I've been running I've had the disease track running from date of initial exposure so you can't double contract a disease.
My theory is that once a disease enters the player it begins its course based on checks so subsequent exposure does nothing.
Since poisons specifically mention the multiple doses it stands to reason disease track doesn't work the same way, not to mention that the disease track is (to me) worse than the poison track.
But if you want to split the baby you could require subsequent saves for each hit? But if that's the case there's no difference between poison and disease except disease doesn't cause you to take initial HP damage.
GM Dinketry |
No. Diseases do not stack with exposures.
Unfortunately, Void Rot (that’s the disease you’ve got):
That’s why you’re in the Diseased state, Telion.
Telion of Castrovel |
Hooray! I'm sick!
EDIT: My illness has been incorporated into my stat line. The status spoiler shows the abbreviated full penalties, but effects are already incorporated.
GM Dinketry |
Treat Disease:
You can use Medicine to treat a creature suffering from a disease. This takes 10 minutes and requires a medkit, a medical lab, or a medical bay on a starship. Every time the diseased creature attempts a saving throw against the disease, you can attempt a Medicine check. If your result exceeds the DC of the disease, the creature receives a +4 bonus to its saving throw against the disease.
Jaxom, you can help Telion with his next saving throw, which will occur tomorrow. You'd need to treat him at some point using a medkit, a medical lab, or a medical bay, if you have access to one of those things. You'd also need 10 uninterrupted minutes, and you don't have that right now.
