Digger,

Would you allow a paladin that worshipped Pharasma (Wee Jas)? Have an idea for his bkgd but needed ok before I submitted him.

Replied off list. :)

Sounds interesting. Let's see what I have to work with:

4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 5) = 19 17
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 4, 3) = 18 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 1) = 17 16
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 4, 2) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 6) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 4) = 18 15

:o Somebody want to double check that for me? I'm not believing my eyes. Did part of the bundle come with a RNG upgrade or is all the traffic throwing it off?

Well, I will have to work on something worthy of those rolls. I'm not even sure where to start. Not used to a 47 point buy.

Thank you dice gods!

@AGamer70: As generous as it has been with some, it has been as cold to others. It is much like the lotto in that regards. :)

Well I suppose I may as well see where the dice fall.

4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 3, 2) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 6, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 2, 5) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 5, 2) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 5) = 20
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 5, 5) = 19

EDIT: Adding some re-rolls since I have some duplicate low dice in there to re-roll.

1d6 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 6
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 6
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 5
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 2

EDIT the 2nd: By my count that leaves me with stats of: 7, 15, 15, 14, 17, 15. I think I can do something with that, we'll see.

Thanks for the chance to submit. I'm taking some time to read over a little about Greyhawks campaign setting so I can flesh out backgrounds for character concepts. I definitely prefer the fluff before the crunch.

The gods will be Pathfinder ones, as well as the lands. I will get an exact location posted up tonight if people want to try to zero more in on a specific feel of the region.

4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 6, 1) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 1, 3) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 5) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 4, 1) = 10
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 4, 5) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 5, 5) = 20

Trying it out.
Refills
1d6 ⇒ 2

I'm toying with the idea of a halfling unchained rogue...I know extremely original but the backstory will be fun.

Either that or going with a Hunter.

Dark Archive

I have two concepts. First being.

Klaern (Bard)

Klaern is a well known actor about town. Well at least he believes himself to be. He can often come off as haughty and condescending to others. He makes a decent paycheck and was born to wealth so spends money frivolously (There is always more right?). He has become bored of acting as a hero on the stage and has decided to set out to become one right and proper like his great grandfather who has passed down a well shaped bow throughout the lineage.

If you don't like Klaern then I also have:

Davian Pegason (Life Oracle)

Davian is a young (16 years old) orphan that was raised in the Lantern Street Orphanage. Knowing little of his parents and not much for the orphanage life Davian escapes and sets out on his own. He has currently been living on the streets of Cauldron for a little over a week now, stealing what food and belongings he can to survive. Recently he aquired an unsuspecting guards breastplate armor (Lucky him).

If the messageboards allow it XD Paizo has been getting its butt kicked these last couple days. I've had to extend deadlines for submissions for my pbp because of it

So we can roll stats and if we don't like them go with 20 point buy? Assuming that's the case...
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 5) = 23 18
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 4) = 17 14
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 2) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 2) = 14 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 2) = 16 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 6, 2) = 18 16

EDIT: wow, and I normally hate rolling stats cuz I'm almos at always the guy with three 8s and a 6.

Also, no hybrid classes? I made a warpriest for a Giant Slayer game that I didn't get in that id like to play, but I can convert her to a straight cleric.

I'll look over the campaign info and adjust her background around.

@Tyranius: Thanks! After looking them over, I am guessing you didn't want to tempt the fate of the RNG and went with the more controlled path of the 20pt buy? You also are keeping the cold iron workers of Cauldron in business and I am sure they appreciate that as well. The concept of Klaern seems to have the most fleshing out, as there is not really a mention of how he has learned to control his powers and where/when he learned of them.

@DMSnowe: Yeah, the humble bundle has been a blessing and a curse for the boards.

Nymani wrote:

Most people seem to be knocking the rolls out of the park, so not many have wanted to go back and use the 20pt safety net. :)

Correct. For now just the core and base classes with a few of the unchained ones as well.

What is the ruling on archetypes? I'm looking at making some kind of wizard, possibly an exploiter, but I haven't decided yet. He'd be the bookish type; a collector or rare knowledge and spell forms, not matter what archetype I may or may not end up using.

I am not opposed to Archetypes if they make for a good story. Feel free to draft the char up and as I review it if I feel that something doesn't sit right with what I am looking for, we can discuss.

Yes, I have not had a lot of luck with RNG. If you would rather have me roll it I most certainly can.

I am still fleshing out each backstory on their character page. Davian has a bit more now. Those were just the core concepts to them as the Paizo boards have been a bit unfriendly as someone let the goblins out of their cages for a couple of weeks. They were not letting me post much last night.

Hey Digger, just noticed you posted a game, talk about an interest check blowing up! I would be interested in applying with a melee or skill character, You said core and base classes, what do you think about a ranger with the trapper archetype? Probably would go half-elf, unless I could talk you into a Tengu. I saw that you said you might consider non-core but there would potential RP reactions to deal with. So let's see what the dice offer.

stats:: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 2, 6, 5) - 2 = 16
stats:: 4d6 - 5 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 5) - 5 = 18
stats:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 1) - 1 = 10
stats:: 4d6 - 1 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 5) - 1 = 13
stats:: 4d6 - 2 ⇒ (5, 5, 6, 2) - 2 = 16
stats:: 4d6 - 3 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 3) - 3 = 11

Wow! that's insane, a 41 point buy... let me see what I can put together!

No worries on using the pt buy and with the boards acting wonky, it has been tough on everyone these past few days.

I will have to read up more of the archetype, but feel free to draft it up as you want. As a more urban ranger may be a better fit, would the trapper convert to that? Or is the goal of the trapper to maintain the woods?

I am always willing to discuss a non-core race, but the more removed from what people are used to seeing, the more their reaction (both pro/con) will be brought into play in terms of situational modifiers.

With all the really high rolls you might want to adjust the point buy.

TheGodd*mnGM wrote:

The stats right now are less important than the character concept and write-ups. If someone who uses the pt buy gets into the game and feels they are underpowered compared to those who rolled, I will work with them to reach an equal footing.

This does raise a good point that I need to finish up the char creation guidelines and what I am looking for with people applying to the game. :)

While Nymani is a cleric, she's built to be up front in melee.

Updated the char creation section a bit with what I am looking for in the background/appearance section

Background: I want this character to be someone that you will look forward to playing for a long time, as this campaign is designed to do just that. I would like to see how your character is formed through your background. If someone taught them to read the runic letters of the Giants, who did and why would your char wish to know that? What experiences shaped them into taking the Bullied trait? Did a lifetime of childhood pranks lead to the keen eyes and ears of the Alertness Feat? If you have the blood of dragons in your veins, or perhaps the slightest traces of lycanthropy, how do they manifest? Are your eyes yellow and slitted like those of the dragons, or perhaps do you have a course covering of thick body hair that regrows during the night of the full moon no matter how often you shave or wax?

As these forums are the sole RP outlet for some of us, embrace it as deeply as you would like, but at the minimum give me the feeling that your selections are more than +/-s on the character sheet. Give me a chance to use what you provide me to give you a better game. Like I have said many times, I am really all about the story with just enough crunch to keep things interesting.

Digger wrote:

Urban ranger would be cool. I usually do "trapper" so I can get "Trapfinding" at first level and avoid using spells, but since were in a city environment "urban" would make more sense.

As for the race, I have a soft spot for odd Tengu's, when I saw the trait "touched in the head" I immediately thought of a tengu character. I didn't know if we could use tengu's instead of catfolk or ratfolk, If a bat crap crazy tengu would not be in order would a catfolk who is a little odd be more appropriate? I do not want to hinder the party with too strange of a beast, if neither work I will put together a half elf, probably with the trait "Lantern street orphan" please let me know, thanks Digger!

@ Robert Henry: If you are willing to give up Sword trained, dropping the race cost to a 9, I am ok with the race. I will expect a good listing of how the tengu community, small as it may be, exists in the bottom tier of Cauldron which is the slum area of the city.

As a martial class you will have access to most of the blades you are giving up, so I think it is a fair trade off if you want to go that route. The social modifier will be that when dealing with those from the upper tiers of society, you will face a situational -2 due to the bias against them.

Presenting Rorimac Lindenbrook:

I went with a more narrative approach which I hope is alright. Please let me know if you have questions and I will do my best to answer them. The crunch is after the

Backstory:
A gentle breeze moved across the Parego Dospera in the Chelaxian port city of Westcrown. The breeze picked up the smells of the Cader Boneyard as it went. Freshly turned earth mingled with moldering flowers from a funeral that occurred the day before and being borne aloft by the breeze, ruffled the black hair of a halfling boy crouched upon the windowsill of a noble's home. The boy smelled the amazing aroma of baking bread, as a cherry pie cooled nearby, causing the boy to salivate. It had been three days since he last ate and had taken to torturing himself by sneaking up to such windows to smell the food cooking within. It was getting to the point where he could no longer take it. In a fit of madness that he would come to regret for years to come, he snuck in to steal the sumptuous treat. Just as his hand was about to reach the tin, a callused hand closed around his small wrist with a grip of iron. Looking up into cold black eyes, Rori knew his life was about to change drastically.

--------------------------------------------

Six years later:

Rori wiped the sweat that was pouring from his brow as he crawled through the pipe, cleaning the filth that built up from thousands of gallons of olive oil flowing into large tanks awaiting shipping. This job, known as ramrodding was one of the worst of the jobs that could be done due the high rate of getting stuck. The masters, when that happened, would reopen the oil flow and just hope the pressure would shove the offending slave out. This invariably caused the death of the slave but there were always more where that came from in Cheliax, especially halflings. Rori was the longest in the position due to his ability to manipulate his body in ways that would make others pop their joints. Climbing and jumping between the pipes and fixing clogs became second nature to him. He also learned to fix the mechanical issues with the pumps and found he had a knack for contraptions. That all came to an end one day when the Bellflower Network conducted a raid upon the factory and released the slaves. Rori went and for the first time in his life, was taken out of Cheliax.

----------------------------------------------

Four years after that:

Rori ducked under the guards blade and lashed out with one of his blades. Not wanting to kill the man, he aimed for one of the straps on the man's armor. Slicing through, the breastplate flopped free and entangled his burly attackers sword arm allowing Rori to melt into the crowd. He bounced the pouch of coins that he had cut from the guard and smiled. Sweat cream and cakes danced in his head as he made his way toward his favorite inn. Along the way he spied a pair of children sitting in an alley with what looked like their mother. The mother had the blank look of a woman who had given up and in the city of Daggermark, that would be a death sentence for the children. Rolling his eyes up to the sky and sighing loudly in exasperation, the lithe halfling moved over to the small family and said to the children. Make something of yourselves little ones...and you madam, speak to Jansibar over at the Widow's Peak. Tell him Rori sent you and that you are looking for a job and he'll sort you out. Here, this'll get you started. he says, tossing the pouch of gold to them. When the tears and thanks started to flow Rori merely nodded and melted back into the crowd. Another halfling shakes his head as he moves up next to him. You keep giving your take away, you're going to end up as skinny as when I met you. He was slightly taller than Rori and fair haired to his dark but these two were opposite sides of the same coin and for the last few years had been inseparable. Rori laughs and says Then I'll just have to eat you then, tough and stringy as you are. That was the last day he and Felix had together before tragedy struck in the form of an orcish arrow during a particularly brazen job at a moneylender that evening. Rori left Daggermark after that, the pain of losing his friend souring him to the city.

----------------------------------------------

Two years later (Present Day): Rori had been in Cauldron for a little over a year and found the city to be to his liking. This was a city that was truly alive. He could feel the beating of the heart of the masses as they descended into the caldera. He passed the Lantern Street Orphanage and dropped a gold piece in the donation box. He had a soft spot for children, especially orphaned ones like himself. Taking a deep cleansing breath of the crisp morning air, he went to one of the local pubs to see if anyone was looking for a burglar for their adventuring group. His last had all died rather suddenly and violently when they went ahead when he twisted an ankle and missed the deadfall trap that Rori would have easily spotted. Shaking his head at the memory he walks into the pub and orders a drink, hoping that today he would get lucky and find a group.

Dirty Fighter You wouldn't have lived to make it out of childhood without the aid of a sibling, friend, or companion on whom you could always count to distract your enemies long enough to do a little bit more damage than normal. When you hit a foe you are flanking, you deal an additional 1 point of damage (this damage is added to your base damage, and is multiplied on a critical hit). This additional damage is a trait bonus.

Fearless (Ex) Halflings receive a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against fear. This bonus stacks with the bonus granted by Halfling Luck.

Finesse Training (Ex) At 1st level, a rogue gains Weapon Finesse as a bonus feat. In addition, starting at 3rd level, she can select any one type of weapon that can be used with Weapon Finesse (such as rapiers or daggers). Once this choice is made, it cannot be changed. Whenever she makes a successful melee attack with the selected weapon, she adds her Dexterity modifier instead of her Strength modifier to the damage roll. If any effect would prevent the rogue from adding her Strength modifier to the damage roll, she does not add her Dexterity modifier. The rogue can select a second weapon at 11th level and a third at 19th level.

Fleet of Foot Some halflings are quicker than their kin but less cautious. Halflings with this racial trait move at normal speed and have a base speed of 30 feet.

Halfling Luck (Ex) Halflings receive a +1 racial bonus on all saving throws.

Keen Senses (Ex) Halflings receive a +2 bonus on Perception skill checks.

Skills

Sneak Attack (Ex) If you can catch an opponent when he is unable to defend himself effectively from your attack, you can strike a vital spot for extra damage. Your attack deals 1d6 points of extra damage anytime your target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC, or when you flank your target. Should you score a critical hit with a sneak attack, this extra damage is not multiplied. Ranged attacks can count as sneak attacks only if the target is within 30 feet. With a weapon that deals nonlethal damage, you can make a sneak attack that deals nonlethal damage instead of lethal damage. You cannot use a weapon that deals lethal damage to deal nonlethal damage in a sneak attack, not even with the usual -4 penalty. You must be able to see the target well enough to pick out a vital spot and must be able to reach such a spot. You cannot sneak attack while striking a creature with concealment.

Trapfinding (Ex) You add +1 to Perception skill checks made to locate traps and to Disable Device skill checks. You can use the Disable Device skill to disarm magical traps.

Two-Weapon Fighting

Weapon Familiarity (Ex) Halflings are proficient with slings and treat any weapon with the word "halfling" in its name as a martial weapon.

Very good write-up and it was easy to see the progression of Rorimac.

One item with the Crunch, I won't be using Stamina pools, so the abilities referencing them should be modified out please.

No worries. I know many of these characters may be retreads from previous games. My hope is that asking for a more robust background on them, it will help spark the creative juices that made you want to play them in the first place. :)

One other thing, don't forget when you do decide on your MW item to work it into the backstory as well. I want to know why out of all the things in the world, this particular item means so much to your character.

In my tabletop game the items were as follows:

MW Flask - The flask the party monk took from his trainer after the old man's heart attack.

MW Bug Sprayer with St Cuthbert's symbol engraved on it - Party's cleric has it filled with holy water and it doubles as his holy item in combat.

MW Platemail - Custom fitted armor for the Paladin by her family upon taking the oath of service to Pelor.

MW Violin - This violin belonged to the elven bard who taught the group's gnomish bard. Only he and I know if the instructor gave it to his pupil willingly.

MW Composite Shortbow - The party's rogue spent 20 years in the Cauldron Salt mines for taking the virginity of a consenting priestess. Upon his release, this bow was in the scant items he was given as a free man. A sealed scroll listed a bowyer's address in Cauldron with the simple message of "We must talk"

MW Spear - As fitting a graduate of the Warmage College in Sasserine, this was presented as a status symbol for all to see. Etched with runes and carvings this weapon is one designed for both war and peace times.

Oh no this character is completely from scratch. I just created him in pcgen and haven't played any of the unchained classes before so I thought it would be fun. Plus I love playing rogues. I'm glad you mentioned terrain and things like that because I LOVE to be able to use things in neat ways. Jumping off/crawling under tables, dropping chandeliers, pulling tapestries down on top of enemies stuff like that is so much fun.

How do you feel about Occult Adventures classes, Digger? Specifically thinking about an Occultist who seems to have a lot of flavor that you can play around with (discovering items, learning history, etc). The player's guide (and your listed classes) didn't mention anything so I thought I'd check before I started building a character.

Edit: I just notice you didn't list it as part of the source material. I assume that means Occultists are right out?

They are out right now. I do not have that material and am too unfamiliar with them currently.

Alright, thanks for clarifying. I just wanted to make sure they were a purposeful omission. :) I'll have to think about what other concepts I want to play around with.

Rori's item:
Rori looked at the lock in front of him with a critical eye and as was his habit, began to talk to it. Alright now let's see what you've got for me. Now we know you're going to open in any event...you know it and I know it so let's cut through the chatter and just get to business. What do you say? His companions rolled their eyes at their burglar's idiosyncracies. They put up with him because he was really good...and he said yes when they asked if he wanted a mission with nearly certain death but high reward.

Rori pulled his tools out, soft kid leather swaddling them gently. He paused a moment and thought of Felix, whose name was embossed in gold leaf on the cover. These tools, made of the finest steel, had served him well since he recovered them off his friend's body years ago. Putting that thought out of his mind he got back to work. Ah I see honey, you're going to play hard to get is that it?

Hello, I'm very interested in participating, but I am wondering if you allow Gunslingers in your game (I mean eventually)? Also, do you have an restrictions on "Archtypes"?

There are a couple of ways that I am working in over the course of the game that might introduce guns into the game, but they would require the PCs to do the leg work.

As far as Archetypes go, no 3rd party ones and only a single archetype can be taken. Also if I review it and it just "feels" broken, then I will call that up front.

Hey Digger, this is the crunch for RH’s Tengu Urban ranger, I am still working on the fluff; two questions for you.

Since Taicho’s family came from Tian Xia several generations back, could he have an “heirloom” weapon or armor that is “eastern” in nature for his masterwork item? I’m thinking either Kikko armor or a Nodachi.

Also I just noticed that the trait required was “a community campaign trait” I had discussed with you taking the “Touched in the Head” trait which is from the “Original publication traits” which have both a benefit and drawback. Would it be ok if I keep the “touched in the head” and add a third trait or should I just switch it to one of the community traits?

@Taicho: Replied via PM.

@All: If you take an Adventure Path that has a drawback associated with it, you can have a total of 3 traits. If you do not see an AP trait you like, then select a community trait and a standard trait. The traits that are specific to a different AP are not allowed for this game.

Digger,
Thanks for posting this up, but I'm going to withdraw my submission; you've plenty of good, interested players who haven't experienced Shackled City, so it should be a good time, at least I wish it so.

Shackled City! Awesome. Played this once shortly after it came out, but didn't get very into the opening segment before it fell apart. I have a few ideas for a cleric of Abadar or a rogue both an investigating, detective type. Let me see what the rolls say:

4d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 3, 3) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (1, 3, 1, 6) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 1, 5) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 5) = 19
4d6 ⇒ (1, 2, 1, 4) = 8
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 6) = 17

Plus a few re-rolls, just in case:

1d6 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 3
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d6 ⇒ 1

EDIT: If I did this right, that should be a set of 13,13,13,17,15,9. Definitely adequate for the ideas I have. I will put a character together as soon as I can.

Here's the crunch for my exploiter wizard submission. Name is still a work in progress maybe, haven't decided yet.

Background is incoming, I've got an idea where I want to go with him, its just a matter of taking the time to write it out. I'll transfer stuff from mythweaver's sheet to an alias here if he gets selected!
