Dunia Mbani |
Craft(Traps): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Dunia gives a cursory glance around the room, but doesn't see anything of interest. Moving to stay with the group she heads around to the other side of the room Kuriq's next to and opens the door.
Barl Kestad |
Barl follows the tiefling. "Now those look like some comfortable beds!"
survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

The Man Behind the Curtain |
Dunia (and anyone else who goes into the room she just opened):
A stone pillar bearing numerous lines of runic text stands amid pieces of stone furniture and heaps of miscellaneous junk.
Barl: Among the weapons is one that stands out. It is a finely crafted blade bearing the glyph of the open road.
Kuriq: The rubble piles fairly high, and bears the weight of the material from within the collapsed wall. While you could possibly dig through doing so may result in another (smaller) cave-in.
Dunia Mbani |
Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Dunia looks around the room, eyeing the runes carved into the prominent pillar.
"Barl, c'n take a look in heah? Summin look like Dwarvish."
Barl Kestad |
Barl says, "Can anyone tell if this is magic? It looks valuable."
He follows Dunia into the other room and examines the dwarven script. "It looks like each line here is just a name of a dwarf followed by a number."
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Whoever casts detect magic on it first, it's definitely magical.
Ajaline |
Ajaline inspects the sword. "Hmm. Let's see."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
"This is very interesting. It is a Pathfinder blade. In fact, it is an Aspis Bane longsword -- usually held by high level Pathfinders. I would bet that this belonged to Sharrowsmith."
Dunia Mbani |
"It looks like each line here is just a name of a dwarf followed by a number."
Like a yea'? Were dese kangs or sumpin'?
Barl Kestad |
Heal: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 = 2
"Not that I know of specifically. I'm not sure what this means."
Kuriq |
This was the corner with the beast Kuriq moves very slowly to the corner, and tries to hear around both sides, to try to pinpoint where the beast is coming from, and if there is any movement.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
The Man Behind the Curtain |
As Kuriq peers around the corner, he sees a small lizard-like creature gnawing on some rubble. It quickly turns around and with a glance, Kuriq feels his body begin to seize up.
Dex Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 Fort save DC 12 negates
The creature sits back, chattering and hissing a bit.
Notes on Gaze attacks: You may choose to avert your gaze from a creature with a gaze attack. Doing so will greatly reduce your chances of being affected by it's gaze, but grant it the benefit of total concealment against you. Alternatively, closing your eyes negates its gaze altogether, but you are treated as blind until you open your eyes.
Farith Redloss |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21 +2 if it is an evil outsider
hearing the hissing sound he glances inside and quickly pulls away while averting his gaze. "Careful with this creature and don't stare or look at it, it has some sort of gaze attack!"
Kuriq |
Kuriq quickly turns back to the party to avoid any further gaze from the creature that could hurt him."Everyone, the creature is here, the door to the temple is around the corner, we can make for a break if we don't want to engage it, it does not seem like it is going to engage yet." While saying all this, he signals the party to hurry up, and ask them to cover their eyes so they don't accidentally sight on the creature.
Kuriq will start rush to the door if at least one person is agreeable to the plan. He's not going wait!
Dunia Mbani |
Dat sound good t' me!
Dunia hustles over towards the door, avoiding looking directly at the creature giving it concealment from me, I believe
Farith Redloss |
Hearing Kuriq he gives him a nod before pushing himself into a run to get to the door, skipping and sliding past Dunia before coming to a stop in front of the door.
20" normal movement, running will give me +10" due to fiendish sprinter. Cannot move my char, but will end at the door, and then 1 below (if that makes sense)
Barl Kestad |
Barl agrees with the plan to run past the creature. He wants no part of its gaze attack.
Kuriq |
Was about to say a number of my players in other games slowed down this week due to thanksgiving.
Kuriq dashes to the door along with the others, holding his hands to his eye to avoid any gaze from the creature, also hopefully the party doesn't provoke any hostility. At the entrance to the temple, he pushes the door open slowly, but forcefully to ensure they don't get caught by the creature behind them.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
A group of kobolds is frantically praying to a massive golden statue as if they wanted it to wake up. The winged statue is standing atop a fifteen-foot-tall block of stone, its back against a wall decorated with many gold-leaf murals depicting historical scenes.
1d20 + 4 - 7 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 7 - 5 = 51d20 + 4 - 8 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 4 - 8 - 5 = 51d20 + 2 - 9 - 5 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 9 - 5 = -61d20 + 4 - 10 - 5 ⇒ (6) + 4 - 10 - 5 = -5
The kobolds don't seem to have noticed Kuriq slowly opening the door.
Farith Redloss |
Peering into the room and seeing the kobold he raised an eyebrow before pulling back and then whispering to his companions "Speak to them in draconic and see how they react?"
Dunia Mbani |
"Soun' good t'me. We don' wanna be fightin' dem less't necessary."
Kuriq |
Kirin silently nods to Farith's idea, but also draws his bow in readiness for back stabbing. is that the guardian? It's huge.
Thermidor Belier |
Though some distance away, Thermidor will try to analyze the significance of the statue and murals, hoping for information which will help them communicate peacefully with the kobolds. He begins slowly entering the room for a better look.
History: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Barl Kestad |
Barl says, "I don't think we will want to be around if that thing actually comes to life. I could try Undercommon too but I don't really want to hear what the lizards have to say."
He tries to see if anything on the statue or murals triggers a memory from his ancestors.

The Man Behind the Curtain |
The camera closes in on Ajaline's face as he says the last sentence...
Suddenly, the statue starts moving, flexing its wings, and roaring in a voice resembling a metallic hunting horn.
The kobolds jump to their feet and one of them turns about. "There they are!"
The golden guardian turns and looks down at the lot of you and bellows, "You should not have come here!" as he slowly arises and spreads its wings, preparing to fly towards you!
Thermidor and Barl, I'll get to your knowledge checks in a bit... but for now...

Barl
Thermidor
The Golden Guardian
Ajaline
Farith
Dunia
Kuriq |
Kuriq, frustrated that they are going to be attacked again, without saying a word moves slightly forward and lets his arrows do all the talking if the enemy approaches the party.
Move action and ready standard action to attack any hostile creatures that come within 35ft
longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
dmg: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Ajaline |
Ajaline quickly rummages through his bag until he finds the object the Grippli had given him. "Here it is." He lifts it to show the others. "Remember that she said we just have to break it open in the presence of the guardian beast. I am assuming that is now. Are you ready for me to break it?"
Dunia Mbani |
Da' soun' good t' me Aj'line. He be lookin' angry!
Farith Redloss |
He regarded Ajaline for a brief moment before raising his hands towards the kobolds while speaking in draconic. "Don't attack us, we are friendly!"
Barl Kestad |
Barl steps forward with the others. In Undercommon he says, "Your people and mine have a long history of bloodshed. But he speaks true- we mean you no harm. Please. We need your assistance."
diplomacy+inspiration: 1d20 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (12) + 3 + (4) = 19
Could probably use some AAs.
The Man Behind the Curtain |
The golden guardian swoops down off of the mount. As it approaches, Kuriq looses a single arrow which flies straight past it as it dives down, slams into the archer, and vaults back up into the air with a strong beat of its wings.
Gore: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Fly check: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15 Succeed
It makes an about face to prepare for it's next flyby when Ajaline cracks open the talisman and the parchment falls to the ground.
It halts and begins to hover. After a few silent seconds, its booming voice ushers forth yet again.
"Welcome, friends of Ashkurhall."
It halts, beating its wings to hold its position before slowly turning to return to its mount.
The kobolds begin to panic. "What is this? You put a curse on our Golden God with that trinket!"
Another one yells "How did you get past Stinkeye? Did you murder him?"
Dunia Mbani |
Stinkeye be de stone-makin' lizard? He be fine, jus' lazy. He still back dere.
Kuriq |
"Ow, my back." Kuriq picks up after himself, confused at the whole thing. "What did the trinket do? Was it magical?"
Farith Redloss |
Regarding the kobolds for a brief moment he shook his head "nobody is hurt or murdered, everyone is more then fine.." the words spoken were in draconic
Dunia Mbani |
"You don' seem troubled by 'em, but we din hu't you' guards eider"
The Man Behind the Curtain |
Barl's words appear to put the Kobolds into a better mood to at least listen to you, and while they keep bows in hand, they are no longer drawn back, nor pointed directly at you. The guardian seats himself back on his pedestal and adopts a much more comfortable pose.
Dunia and Farith, can you give me diplomacy checks? Along with anyone else who wishes to address the kobolds give me some form of social interaction check.
The kobolds still seem uncomfortable with your presence and one of them pipes up. “The idiot human who collapsed the corridor was a friend of yours, wasn’t he?”
A second one chimes in as well. “You attacked kobolds a few weeks ago just outside these ruins, didn’t you?”
Farith Redloss |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 +2 if they are evil outsiders
Listening to the kobolds he pondered the answer for a moment. "The idiot that collapsed the corridor isn't a friend of ours, he is a thief that is trying to steal everything he can find and murder those who opposes him...."
Dunia Mbani |
diplomacy: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (18) - 3 = 15 Thanks dice!
Somehow Dunia's dismissive attitude and chelish-polyglot creole haven't prevented her essential good intentions towards these kobolds from coming through.
Kuriq |
Shouldn't Farith's check be bluff now? :P
"Let's all be rational here, as you can see, we mean you no ill will in our presence, only to search for the human you speak of, let us talk to him."
Kuriq joins in the conversation in order to stop hostilities.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
The Man Behind the Curtain |
They are speaking in poor common, but if you speak to them in Draconic they do seem happier.
One of the kobolds looks a bit confused at Farith's comment. "Hrmf. He was one of you pathfinders. Had one of those pathfinder swords. I guess you not all... erm." He switches to draconic to make his point. "...made of the same scales."
The second speaker snaps back at the first. "You just say that because you in charge now after they killed the others!"
