Ok I submit Grulberk.

I made some finshing touches and changed a few things here and there, NOW it's finally finished.

Fluff:

Zoren Flink was adopted by an elderly human couple who believed he would become an excellent swordsman in service to the king, he did too until one fateful evening. The reason he killed them is simply a racial matter. One year earlier, the "rich kid" who is actually King Markadian V's nephew, had seen his family and was disgusted by the fact that a human would take in such a "vile creature". He got his friends together and decided it would be a good idea to beat up the tiefling and his adoptive parents. The tiefling took quite the beating but lived. His parents, not so lucky, they died of their wounds and the son had not been found guilty because, yep you guessed it, the king had pardoned him.

The tiefling had become so filled with rage and sorrow he embraced the dark side. He planned the moment he would exact his revenge. And on a particularly "misty" evening, the tiefling snuck into his house, and he killed that "rich kid's whole family and left him to weep over their lifeless bodies, just as the tiefling did. On the walls in blood he wrote

Well, still need to finish the crunch, but here is the background for Dyrhethia. (name subject to change)

Human Female Wizard/Alchemist(Mindchemist/Trap Breaker) Neutral favoring LE
- role will be arcane, buffing/debuffing, and lots of skills, especially knowledge
- will be a dex/int focussed character
- has trap breaking abilities and bombs

Background for Dyrhethia:

She was destined for greatness. Born under a new moon on the summer solstice. Brilliant and athletic, Dyrhethia excelled in every subject. Perhaps her judgment was not always perfect, but with a pretty smile and a sharp mind, she rarely got into trouble.

By the age of twelve, she had been apprenticed to a stern elderly wizard who had for years served with the Talingarde military, as an advisor, and on the front lines. For five years, every day she was up before dawn to perform menial tasks, cleaning and doing laundry. By breakfast, she would have already been studying for several hours, and the studies would not end until after sundown unless she was sent on some errand.

Around her seventeenth birthday, while running an errand one afternoon, she met a young man, actually a boy a year or so younger than her. Having little experience with social situations, she was taken in by his charm. The boy accompanied her on her errands, helping her to carry the various components back to the wizard’s compound.

Over the next several months, every time that Dyr went out, the young man, D’narieth, was there. During this time, the old wizard began to become more and more absentminded. Whether this was from using too much magic over the years, or simply failing health caused by old age, she did not know. But, what she did know was that it allowed her to spend longer times on her errands, and even to finish her studies earlier in the day so that she could spend time outside of the wizard’s laboratory.

What started out as talking and walking together soon became hanging out with D’nar and his friends. Well, when children of parents of means have nothing to do, often they find ways to cause trouble. So it was with the group she had begun to associate with. First, it was painting graffiti on places. Initially it was the back of taverns and stores, then it was government buildings, then a temple. Somehow, the group was never caught, but that did not stop the exploring.

At some time after she turned nineteen, Dyr began to experiment with various compounds and reagents that the wizard had in his storeroom. From these, she was able to make all sorts of interesting things. Small sacks that would create clouds of noxious gas, fun to toss into a crowded hall. Mixtures in flasks that would create loud bangs and a bright flash of light, spectacular for tossing into a crowded square.

Well, as might be expected, the group, more of a gang by this time, took to petty theft to up the ante. They would sneak into apartments and mug old people. Not for the money, which none of them really needed, but solely for the thrill. And Dyr, well, she found she loved this far more than the boring magic she studied most days. Not only did she love the thrill of planning some escapade, but even more, it was the look of terror in the eyes of an old woman or a young child when the person believed that his or her life was soon to be forfeit.

Assuredly the group would have been long since caught had they not all been the children of nobles and wealthy merchants. But they weren’t. Nonetheless, the group began to be broken up by the time that Dyr turned twenty-two. One boy had actually died when he fell from the balcony of a house he was breaking into. Another had been sent by his father into the military, to learn some discipline, or so the father had said. And, a third, had been sent off to a monastery for training.

Thus, there were but three left when the fateful night had happened. Dyr, D’nar and another young girl, Tallia, had found a sewer that ran directly beneath a small temple in Gastenhall. With the materials that Dyr had requisitioned from the wizard’s stores, she decided that it would be spectacular to create a giant explosion that would shake the building and scare all the worshippers within to death.

Well, the explosion went off, much too well. The explosion was far larger than she had expected, likely because of the use of alchemists fire in the bomb she had made. It definitely shook the temple, including causing a large portion of the building to collapse killing several worshippers and injuring several more. The explosion also killed both of her friends, D’nar being burned to death and Tallia getting struck by a piece of flying stone.

When they found her, there was no doubt who had caused the damage, and the deaths. Dyr could only look at the ground as the judge made the pronouncement that she was to be sent to Branderscar. As she walked out, she saw her parents and the old wizard standing there, but could not look at them. She knew that she had failed them, but at the same time, the thought of what she had done exhilarated her and brought a small smile to her lips, although she was sure it would be her last.

Here is Yulani Merilar, my Aasimar Mesmerist|Slayer.

The character is a predator and in more ways than one. Her crime is murder though that murder is just the only they could tie her to.

I haven't done the gear yet, but that isn't needed at the start anyway.

Background:
Born as a member of House Merilar, a halfling family raised to minor nobility for their support of House Darius, Yulani was considered a blessing. Her celestial heritage became apparent very soon after her birth when her parents noticed her cat-like pupils. As soon as she got her first teeth the sharp canines stood out, as did her pointy ears. Recognising in her the touch of their family symbol her parents celebrated her.

When she became older it became apparent that she didn't only carry the good characteristics of the House's Leonal ancestor but also the bad. It started with her sneaking up on members of the staff and scaring the living daylights out of them. This playing went well for a very long time, until Yalina scaring an old maid actually induced a heart attack. Unwilling to have their blessed daughter arrested for what surely wasn't intentional Yulani's family had the corpse vanish.

When something similar happened again, though this time as a result of a falling bookcase, her parents once more destroyed the evidence of any possible action by Yulani. Even when she turned from personnel to local villagers they still removed evidence and bribed relatives. When the deaths started to come from claw attacks rather than apparent accidents, right at the time Yulani started to develop claws, her parents locked her up in the manor.

It did not take long before Yulani escaped the manor and moved far away to a place where her parents would not restrict her, not realising they also protected her. Despite the lack of protection Yulani could continue her killings in the city as she mostly aimed at the poor and downtrodden, people nobody missed or cared about. She lured them into dark alleys using her budding mental ability and would then slay them. As this name game also quickly became boring Yulani switched to increasingly difficult marks. This would prove her fatal.

Not quite knowing who he was she one night lured a man into an alley. There she attacked him but the man fought back. It took her quite a lot of skill and effort but eventually she got him down. In her excitement she was too late to realise it when the guards closed her in. Apparently she had just killed a member of House Darius, a second cousin to the king.

It was thing murder that landed her in Branderscar, something she still considers funny seeing the number of other kills on her name.

Is it weird that I have more anxiety about getting in to a PbP Game then going to an interview for a new job?

In some ways I'd say no, you could be up against anyone in the job interview whether for good or ill, but generally speaking they're anonymous. For a PbP though the norm is that you can see the other peoples submissions, and there are some damn good ones here!

I am very curious as to how this shakes out. We have villains both monstrous, manipulative and fallen from grace. Very nice. I learn so much from these recruitment. Thanks everyone! :D

Tenro however frightens me. I hate Flayer-esq things xD! But that doesn't mean it is not still a very awesome character! :)

Edit

@Pheonix Hunter & Mefika

Mefika is darn right, I can say though that no matter what if you get the spot than awesome if you don't than there will be another. However I take notes from those who submit here. I like to understand the route they took for my own good so the next time I can make my character that much better. :)

But Mefika is right there are some Damn good submissions here! :)

So much fun seeing this I wish there was an evil gestalt making thread. Because these doozy's should be there lol. xD

Background Garryth Slayne:

The story of Garryth begins 3 generations prior, 80 years ago to be precise, in the battle of Tamberlyn. Greggor Slayne was a Griffon Knight under the house Barca command. Greggor was an accomplished knight, turning down being a field commander many times to continue to being in the famed griffon unit. During the battle Greggor had many kills against the pathetic paladin force before being slain by none other than Markadian himself. It disgusted my family to submit to Darius rule, but submit they did to save our minor house and continue our bloodline and in one day hope for revenge.

The generations that followed were more of the same, House Slayne continued to stay committed to the cause of overthrowing the usurpers. Grandfather Granous joined in with the Darius military, learning what he could from our enemies and biding time for the eventual coup to come. While in the military Granous met a Tiefling by the name of Johan. Johan was an excellent fighter, capable of blending magical and martial skill, beautiful forms with deadly grace, viciousness with art. In a battle in the Northland fighting bugbears Granous saved Johan from certain death from the goblinoids. Johan pledged himself to mind, body, and soul to my grandfather, thus becoming the house master at arms. Johan began training the household, particularly the patriarchs, in the arts of sword form and blending melee with magic. Th oldest son of Granous was born not much after that, being given the name Geoffry. Geoffry, like the generations before him, joined the military of Darius, this time to a mostly peaceful reign. During his tutelage under Johan he was the first of us to learn arcane arts in addition to martial, according to Johan that is the only way to defeat divine power of paladins was with arcane arts.

Lastly the story comes to Garryth, the current heir to the Slayne family. He was born 22 years ago to Geoffry and his mother Gwendolynn in the family estate outside the capitol. He was a very intelligent child and grew into a cunning strong man. Johan taught him as he did his father, but Garryth took to the teachings much faster, mastering combat maneuvers and spells his father never was able to. Quickly he became bored with the same training partners and decided to start an underground dueling club, only for noble lines.

This club began with a few disgruntled, minor houses such as Slayne, and began to progress to more noble houses. At first the clubs were only to first blood, Garryth would make quick work of any challengers, eventually choosing to raise the stakes, first with monetary gains then the stake of life itself. Goading others to fight him, often faking injury and ineptitude then striking quick fatal blows with either an unseen spell or vicious slice of his katana. Eventually the fights started to gain notice from the royal guard, and a set up was set with one of the major families connected to House Darius. The fight went much the same as usual right up to the point of the fatal blow and a huge regimen of Darius soldiers came in and arrested Garryth. The trial was a sham, no one survived to testify as it turns out, other than the latest victim, the coward paladin.

Here I am now, locked in a cell waiting for execution, I need out so I can exact my revenge for my family and myself, bring the right sort of order to this land, as it deserves.

Changed the race to human, swapped some things around, but the build is the same.

Aye. Watching other submissions while I was still writing a background for mine didn't help. In the end, I'm still not entirely happy with it as there was alot I wanted to develop but left out for brevity's sake. I just didn't want to wait so long that any character I submitted would be an afterthought. (Maybe it still is. lol)

Anyway, we got...less than 24 hours now? *que the everyday life montage*

Technically the deadline was a few hours ago, but I am extending it a bit further. Nothing like a migraine to screw with posting. Regardless, take this time to finish up whatever you were doing to your character, put on final touches with it, ect.

Ok, may I present a mostly finished Dyrkanine Nzeran - N(LE) human Wizard(diviner)/Alchemist(Mindchemist/Trap Breaker)

Still need to finish traits and clean up some stuff. Skills and most of the feats should be finished.

Kharne the Orc was born from evil. Born into evil ways. How else should he act? Compassion is for the weak. He has spent his entire short life pitted against his own kind. How does an orc stop being an orc?

Kharne the Orc, CE, Wild Rager Barbarian/Mutation Warrior Fighter

^That post^ Watch where you put that post on the internet! Some people get butthurt about how Orcs are written up and do the whole 'Orcs can choose to be what they want to be, blargh! Don't be a racist Nazi, blah, blah!'. I'm a Gygax/Tolkien loyalist, so people know my stance on it: Orcs and Red Dragons are 99% eat your baby, possibly as a side to roasted Halfling feet/1% sell your baby into slavery and use the gold for nefarious purposes.
EDIT: NO FLAME WARS! I have Mythic Meteor Swarm + GM In My Retinue. :P

Oh and I think people will like my character! Once I get her alias made anyway. Website was acting screwy earlier and stuff! I have done the improbable and made an EVIL DRUID!!! Totally didn't base her on Poison Ivy. :P

you do realize that by your response you could have started a war...lol

I'll just leave it as evil is based on personal perspective. ..

Ange ? >.>;

GM Darklord Sorry to hear you had a migraine, had one of those the other day and it sucked. Waking up with one in particular is just fantastic... Took a few days for me to get back to normal, luckily I don't get them often. Get sleep, hydrate and rest often. See you when your better! :)

i was once using a (3.5) VoP monk with the forced alignment conversion rules in BoED, and i had a GM actually yell at me when i tried to convert a Drow. i said i could convert the drow to Good, he said no. I showed him the converted red dragon in the book, he said no and yelled. hahaha he was a great DM though

Heh heh... That dragon was amazing though.

So was the wizard riding it with the Bionic arm. ;)

BoED my favorite book, along with its counterpart. Saint and Vop were awesome additions. Granted they seemed a bit OP but it was easy to lose them forever. Wish I could use those for pathfinder. :/

yeah, i finally got that monk to become a saint. combat was no real challenge for him, he could almost never be hurt but there were some enemies he couldn't touch because they were flying wizards. their spells did nothing for him, but they terrorized the other party members and he could do little.

the real challenge was not losing sainthood :D

he gained it by sparing a thief from death by offering his own hand to be chopped off in the thief's stead.

I am aware of that, Riuk! :P Still, if you're applying for an evil campaign, I suspect arguing morality is a little far down the list, no? :) I think the whole argument should be a non-issue, due to it being a fantasy game. It's still kind of fun to troll people about it, though I'm usually limiting it to the dudes at the comic book shop. 'Oh hey, you're a hardcore 1E guy? What does that alignment block say? SPEAK THE WORDS!!! Speak the words and kneel before the Guillotine Queen of Galt!' That title was fun in our 'taking over Galt' type campaign!

Do you guys all know each other? It seems there is history with that dragon and you three!

Shami, what's with the emoticon? I can't make out what it is! It vaguely resembles Kirby doing a dance move! <(-_-)> That's my Kirby 'come at me bro' emoticon I made a while back! ^_^

By the way, how do you create a campaign on these messageboards? I think my blonde is kicking in!

Ange de la Nuit wrote:

I just was looking that up myself. Scroll to the top of the page and click where it lists your name. Click that and it should bring you to your account page. There's a tab in the middle of the page that reads "Campaigns". Click that and create your campaign from there.

BTW, I don't know anybody from this thread. Just versed in having spent alot of time in 3.5.

3.X was our thing too until it was canceled. We briefly drink the figurative Kool Aid and tried to like D&D 4.0. That failed miserably, then Pathfinder came out and we were super happy! :)

By the way, does anyone know what sorts of campaigns do people generally get into on the boards? I had ideas for running a campaign or two but am unsure of what the other posters want!

My first introduction to any sort of organized play was from 4e. Certainly not my favored ruleset, but it had its merits that made it appealing to me for a time. I always openly laughed at those that started D&D at 4e saying how complex the ruleset was.

As for what people get into...oh I don't know. Anything? No, seriously. Set it up well and people will apply.

people will apply to most anything. high power games get tons of applications but also tend to burn out the fastest.

We Be Goblins! and Way of the Wicked tend to get a lot of applications as well.

I can't put the link up since I'm on my phone but if you look into my profile there's a link to a Google doc with a lot of submissions and a link to the border about that ^_^

I will need a little bit of time to decide which idea to go with as far as campaigns go, but I hope I have something up by next week.

What is the cause of high-powered burnouts, Tenro? I am curious why that is. Is it the GM getting annoyed with all the paperwork and glacial pace of combat? Is it the PCs who overoptimize? I am curious as to why.

Thanks Tenro and Tsriel!

Ange de la Nuit wrote:

Yes and yes.

Honestly, the reasons as to why these things burnout is so varied that it's hard, if not impossible, to specifically pin it down to one reason.

Yes, its true, sometimes GMs bite off more than they can chew. Sometimes a player soon finds out it wasn't exactly the game they were expecting. Sometimes it's both sides simply not being motivated enough to post.

You have to be consistent and persistent. It's pretty rare to get a game going and everything just "clicks". No one just disappears, everyone is active and appears to have good chemistry with each other. More often than not, you'll cycle through a few players until you find the right balance. Sometimes you might have to reboot entirely. Whatever happens, if you're 100% dedicated to completing a campaign, you'll make it. Falter once and...well, there's just one more dead campaign to add to the flotsam sea.

EDIT: Here, you'll want to read this.

OSW, I am changing my submission which after watching the comments and character creations, I feel Adaline fits this game more than Mulroch who will be recycled for another game. My new and official submission will be Adaline. I guess that is what happens when you are one of the first group of submissions?

@Ange Tsriel is correct, theres no way to pin down why games burnout quickly, sometimes half the party drops for no reason. Had that happen in one game, we were fast pace and it was fun. But two out of the four players both up and vanished. It was sad.

However whatever game you do just make sure you don't overwhelm yourself with what you have to do to maintain the game. Making Maps online and such can be very time consuming if you don't have the right programs/experience.

Ocean Shield Wolf Thanks for updating! :D

Kharne the Orc stirs restlessly in his prison cell and eaten all the rats to his fill. What he thirsts for cannot be drank out of a goblet. Kharne stares with studious intent beyond the prison bars and swallows in anticipation. He can taste the spoils of his plan fermenting in his head while incarcerated kept from satiating his hunger for revenge.

Kharne bellows in a gutteral intonation of orcish tongue, "Go ahead. Laugh. I will have my revenge. If not in this life, then certainly the next. I will watch you suffer and cry then slowly die after you witness as I do the same to first upon your (pauses in disgust) loved ones. For this has always been my way and I will be remembered living the way of the wicked."

The grotesquely heavy orc softly chortles that quickly rises into a hysterical crescendo of maniacal laughter.

As he blushes and looks away to continue his prison patrol, Adaline sees a rat walk nearby and smiles mischievously.

I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way.

Grulblerk sat hunched in his tiny cell. He considered ripping the door from its hinges. Under the right circumstances he could moved over 50 tons. It would require some extracts and mutagens and raging though. There would be a lot of noise and alarms. It would be short lived, but even if he tore the wall down or smashed through the wall, he would be captured again and placed in more secure holdings most likely. Plus while enraged he wouldn't be able to think clearly. He needed to keep things straight and watch for an opportunity. There would be plenty of time to crush people to a pulp after his escape. He lifted a roll of greasy fat making sure his reagents and extracts were secure. He chuckled as he recalls the guards hastily searching him, holding their noses as they tried to inspect his pus oozing boils and scabrous body for hidden weapons. They could barely reach his armpits. "HARRRR HARRR HARRR" he let escape as he tried to stretch out in the cell unsuccessfully lying diagonally corner to corner. He tried to doze a bit, his little eye closing, but his big eye, the eyelid never did close over it, it was reddened and bleary to look at, the sort of eye that made people look away lest their own eyes start tearing up from how disgusting it looked. That eye watched the cell door. As he relaxed, he farted loudly. Eating children always made him gassy.

Zoren, listening to Kharne while trying to rest, laying on the floor with rocks under his back, gets angry and yells to him.
Calm down you lowborn idiot, your cackle is less frightening to them as finding a rat in their soup!

Ok, I think that Dyrkaleen is just about finished. She is still a wizard(diviner)/alchemist(mindchemist/trap breaker). Chose traits and adjusted feats a little. I also changed her name slightly.
