Either recombination or, as seems more likely given how many people there are in your various groups, recruiting new people sounds great to me.
I suppose it serves us right that we didn't have rope to bind our goblin. Next time! But I don't think Ioxeia will get bitter about it. :)
Ioxeia Androdaixa |
Well, looking on the bright side of things, in the absolutely worst case scenario, we won't have to worry so much about how to incorporate the new folks. We can all take on new roles of adventurers finding out what happened to the Heroes of Sandpoint!

I'm mostly afk at the moment, but I had a chance to look over the applicants. Will have comments by PM later today or tomorrow.

GM Dak |
We should have one more incoming. In both players cases you would have reason to already be at or arriving to Thistletop. So once he gets here I will let you dicsuss whether you show up together, independetly or what.
Thought as Thorfinn mentioned they could use the help sooner rather than later!
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Coming just as fast as my horse will carry me, and that Dak allows! :)
Just curious, but the party is composed of only three PCs? What happened to everyone else? Did you set off on this suicide mission with three folks? I haven't read through all of the old gameplay so I'm not sure how you came to be in this messy situation!
Thorfinn Feigrsson |
We had a party of five when we started out for Thistletop. That was a while ago in real time, though, and at least one of the other two players has dropped off the boards completely in the interim.
ETA: The other player has also not posted anything to the boards since last fall.
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Yea, I saw where Dak had to take a break. I had to do the same thing last year when work and life got the better of me, so I do understand how that goes. Luckily I made a job change to resolve the majority of the issue, and after the wedding fallout calmed down it resolved the other piece, lol. :)
In disclosure, I play with Dak in an online game of Reign of Winter on Mondays, so I've got a little experience with him from that perspective. I am also the one that runs that game, so if he decides to get out of line or doesn't give us enough loot I'll make sure to take it out of his character's hide. :)
Syuviel Malethrin |
Aye, thank you for the invite, GM. I'll have this alias filled up with the stuff I posted in the recruitment pretty soon - just have to reformat the stat block since apparently I forgot to keep it handy...
Thorfinn Feigrsson |
You know, Matsuno and Malethrin both start with M and have three syllables....
"Mr. Goblin never hangs around when he hears this mighty sound:
'Here I come to save the day!'
That means that Malethrin/Matsuno is on the way!"
OK, I'll stop now.
Syuviel Malethrin |
I suppose we should show up together, to hopefully stop them from getting eaten by goblins. Perhaps Matsuno happened upon where Syuviel's been hiding out, and they went on from there? I'm sure crossing the fallen rope bridge wouldn't have been a huge issue, seeing as you're a monk and I'm a wizard (*wiggles fingers*).
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Matsuno would have been headed for Thistletop based on the directions available within the city, on horseback. It would not be unrealistic to think he'd happen upon the wizard, especially since he has a pretty keen perception skill and any signs of passage could be a clue to the direction the heroes of Sandpoint were headed.
If Dak is ok with this we can assume that they encountered each other, at which point Matsuno would have stated that "heroes" had set off to deal with the threat at Thistletop and it was his intent to join them at least long enough to discover what was the cause for this recent flurry of goblin activity. Based on Syuviel's background it would make sense that he'd want to jump at the chance to explore the secrets that the place might hold while also enjoying the perk of doing so in the presence of "seasoned" adventurers.
Ioxeia Androdaixa |
Hi, folks! Nice to meet you!
Please excuse the mess; there's little a girl can do when she's lying unconscious in a pool of her own and goblin blood, you know? I think we may have got in over our heads after all. :)
GM Dak |
Matsuno/Syuveil you will be entering Init at the end of this round. Since the baddies are up at the beginning of next round feel free to post your actions.
I've placed you on the map on Roll20 you will just need to login and give me your name so I can give you permission to move them. Note I only use Roll20 for tactical maps and HP tracking.
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Gotcha. Can you spell out the situation a bit? The bridge is collapsed at this point? Are the three remaining goblins visible from the far side? The party was backing away from the fight, but does it look like they will be able to cross given that one is down?
GM Dak |
Sure so the bridge is partially down. The souther side came undone from both sides where it was connected. The northern side of the bridge is still intact meaning you can climb across. Before Chim left to get lost in the woods forever he re-tied the end of the southern bridge back up where you all are arriving from. The side the rest of the party is on is still untied.
There are 3 live goblins visible from your side and a bunch of dead or dying goblins and goblins dogs scattered about area across the way.
Dan Townson |
It's the 'climb across' with Ioxeia in such bad shape that Dan is worried about. He's thinking they'll have to carry/drag her over the bridge, which isn't doable with the bridge in its current state. I didn't realize Chim had fixed the other end of the bridge, though. That's helpful.
Syuviel Malethrin |
Okay, here's the plan: You all leap off the cliff on blind faith, and Syuviel will come leaping out of nowhere, casting feather fall on everyone, and we all just happily float on down... Okay, maybe not.
In all seriousness, I should have an action up soon. I logged onto Roll20, so I should be on the site now... I think.
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
So we are all in agreement that we are returning to town? Obviously this is going to suck all to high heaven if they have a chance to reinforce. I'd be happy sitting here and watching the whole place burn to the ground! :)
Also, one of you mentioned a tunnel? Was there something I missed that you discovered when scanning through the previous posts before I joined?
I assume we are operating under the "body washed out to sea" idea?
Ioxeia Androdaixa |
I’m inclined to agree, but then three of us are hardly in any condition to stop them. On the other hand, I think we’ve cut through most of their rank and file and cavalry, so I’m not sure who they could spare to look for reinforcements, and how impressive a figure they could cut with their own tribe a shambles, while more horrible adventurers might sneak in during their absence. I’m more worried that Nualia and her cronies didn’t put in an appearance, but again, we’re in no shape to find out why that is. I guess we should just be grateful that we can have another night in our own beds, and hope for the best! :)
As to the tunnel, there was another branch in some smugglers’ tunnels we found under Sandpoint that we didn’t explore fully, but I don’t remember any signs of recent passage, and I wouldn’t bet a long shot rather than stick with how we know to get places, if we’re worried about time. And yes, I think we are operating under the “washed out to sea” idea.
Thorfinn Feigrsson |
We followed the tunnel for some distance and it kept on going, so we turned back.

Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Gotcha, and that is back in town? Might be worth a look when we go back then. Just a thought.
Since the building is described as a one story wooden building by Dak's account, Matsuno would prefer to stay vigilant until the blaze was going well. His main concern being the archer towers. If there was any limit to our return approach it would be those. Otherwise he'd suggest a water assault and attempt to approach from another side of the structure by climbing.
Syuviel Malethrin |
I think the tunnel can wait. As far as urgency goes, Thistletop is far more important. There's not much reason to think otherwise, especially since the quasit's dead. (Plus Syuviel might be too busy gushing over the ruin to be of much help if we go there first. And god help you all if he ever meets Brodert.)
And as far as the fire goes, I honestly think we're just better off hoofing it while it burns. Worst case scenario, goblin reinforcements show up to pelt us with arrows while we're busy trying to roast marshmallows.
Dan Townson |
I'm not a fan of coming back and assaulting the trapped bridge, closed gate, and archer towers again. Dan can put lots of goblins down at once, but they'll definitely get the bridge rigged again before we get back and climbing across the bridge one at a time while getting shot at was bad.
I'd prefer to try the tunnel or a water approach, in that order. Unless Ioxeia or somebody else has a good, clear plan for dealing with the bridge trap and the closed gates, Dan is going to be strongly against trying Thistletop this way again. Now, if we had a Ring of the Ram and a Portable Bridge, that would be different. But we don't.
Ioxeia Androdaixa |
Ioxeia can't, at the moment; looks like we'll have to do a bit of shopping. At our level, vanish won't help those of us who aren't trained climbers if the bridge is down again, but why not? More spells for the book! Levitate and spider climb might also be worth looking into, if we're going to be bugging the local merchants.
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Just checking in to note I am still here. I think we are at a point where the three at the Red Dragon are waiting for the rest of the group to show up. No rush on their part at all, but wanted to explain the silence.
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Just a heads up to everyone, I am traveling for work today and tomorrow. I will not be able to post until later tonight when I am back at the hotel, and likely not until tomorrow night after that.
Matsuno Kaijitsu |
Wanted to give everyone an update on my schedule for the next few weeks, since I'm about to hit convention season full stride.
I am supporting or running conventions this weekend, next weekend, and the first weekend in May. Basically what that means is I'll be doing prep in the evenings, starting tonight, and will be mostly unavailable between Friday and Sunday of those weekends.
After this spat of weekends I will also be gone the first week of June supporting Origins and the last week of July for GenCon. During those two weeks it is likely I will have no time to post, and those specific conventions run from Wednesday to Sunday.
I apologize in advance if my gameplay lags during these dates. Please GMPC me along as needed.
