Runk |
Fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
The discordant scream washes over Runk making his bones hurt. The pitch and vibration cause his muscles to twitch and tighten but just as it seems they'll seize up the shriek ends and he manages to shake off the lingering effect.
Whew!
Blake Deverin |
FOR Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
The creatures scream echoes off the stone walls, throbbing in his ears and forcing his muscles tense. By sheer force of will he fights of the sounds attempt to freeze his body in place.
Waiting for Ethan at the end of the round and Runk at the top of the next before making my next action.
Ethan Sower |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
The creature's howl penetrates Ethan's very soul. He freezes in place, trembling, as a cold sweat breaks out upon his brow.
Help me, Dead-Eye! Help your servant!
Runk |
Still unable to reach the flying abomination Runk sends another dagger flying.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Damage (CI): 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Dex check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Heh...almost got it back
He curses when the creature jinks out of the way. The dagger rebounds from a beam and lands, point first, only a few inches from Kestens foot. His eyes following their foes flight, Runk draws another dagger.
Zizouket |
Fort save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Zizou cringes as the creature shrieks. Angered by the noise that shakes through his body, he sends a fiery ball at the thing. "Surezko eskura!"
Reaching shocking grasp (ranged touch), converted to fire damage: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Fire damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 5) = 9
GM Dak |
Ziz's ray of fire smashes into the creatures and it explodes into a flames and smoke, the ashes falling to the water below. Moments later the water clears once again with nothing remaining of the creature.
Out of combat - paralyzed people will snap out of it after just a short wait
Runk |
Runk shields his eyes from the blast of fire. Once the wave of heat passes he lowers his arm and, finding nothing but bits of falling ash, lets out a low chuckle. He makes his way around the pool and collects his daggers.
Turning back to the pool he takes a closer look going so far as to get down on his hands and knees to peer across it. He takes one of his daggers, still showing signs of having been plunged into their earlier foes, and dips the blade into the water.
Perception if applicable: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Runk |
"Neat trick.
Rising he leaves the pool for those more magically inclined and turns his attention to the door on the other side of the room.
Standard search and listen. He'll wait until the party is ready before opening it though.
Blade did you take the Ransuer from the statue?
Ethan Sower |
After a few moments, Ethan feels the blood return to his arms and legs, and they respond to his mind's instructions again.
"I am sorry....my resolve failed me, and I was of no use in the face of this demon."
He moves behond Runk, ready to cover him when he moves beyond the next door.
Blake Deverin |
Blade did you take the Ransuer from the statue?
No, I took it off the body of one of the spawning creatures. The first one we killed I think.
Seeing the creature fall, Blake quickly looks to tend to his frozen companions. Seeing them shake off the effect of the creatures scream he turns his attention to the magical pool.
Detect magic
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Know-Arcana: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
GM Dak |
Kesten |
"Mhmm.. Are you detecting the same as me?" Kesten says while observing the pool.
When he realises not everyone is capable of detecting the magic, he states "This pool will keep clean, no matter what. It was intended this way. Why we find it in this dungeon of foul creatures, I have no idea. A bathtub?" he says while shrugging.
Some time later, far away from this all.
"Oh, I should get a few vials to take samples from those things."
GM Dak |
With everyone ready Runk opens the door. On the other side is a spiral staircase leading up. Moving part way up the stairs you come to a wall of rubble where it appears whatever is above has collapsed, blocking off the rest of the stairs.
Runk |
Runk gives a huff followed by a shrug. He takes a moment to look over the rubble in case there's a way through or some sign of it's cause before reversing course.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Passing the statue again he points at the Ransuer and says, "Nicer than yours." to Blake.
Blake Deverin |
Blake sees the weapon Runk indicates in the statue. Taking a moment he looks to see if it can be removed or if it part of the artwork itself. He will also give it an appraising eye, both mundane and magical. "It seems we have exhausted all the exits from this place. Before we return topside and report the tunnels are cleared of danger, I think there is one think left to investigate."
Take 10 on Appraise (13), Know-arcane (18), Spellcraft (19)
By looking at the map I think we have searched all the chambers, anyone want to go back and study the strange pools in the temple room?
Blake Deverin |
** spoiler omitted **
Is the weapon functional, or merely high quality art?
If we run into anything tough my spells are limited and I only have one burst of arcane pool left. I also think we should check out the magic pools before delving deeper.
Kesten |
"You won't get much out of me, if there is still a fight to be had. My muscles feel like unbaked dough, and everything hurts. I got a spell or two left in me, if you want."
Kesten talks more to himself than to anyone else, but at a tone that everyone will be sure to hear.
Ethan Sower |
"I still have a small resevoir of Erastil's strength in me, but not much. If we encounter another creature of the Dark Realms, my use in the fight will be limited," Ethan replies, running a hand over his bow for emphasis.
Blake Deverin |
"Well, if we're just going to offer this thing some great ideas on how to find innocent people to hurt, then maybe we should talk outside, instead. Let's bust up the summoning pool here, and sneak out the door."
Zizou casts detect magic on the pedestal and the pool for good measure before anyone begins breaking things.
I am not sure we know anything IC about the pools. Kesten did some attempts at defiling it and you posted this on March 7th but I don't see a reply from the DM about the magic. We immediately went back to the surface and then when we came back down we only paused in the room before going and killing the demon in the jail cell chamber. We have explored this level except for the pool. Didn't she use it to make the creature...Blake is very interested in figuring that out and stopping it to protect the town. Of course I may have missed a post somewhere so if I did please point it out. Thanks. Or where Kesten's efforts enough to make the pool useless.
Runk |
When it sounds like his companions want to return to the surface Runks says, Back up then. Before doing so however he leaves his companions to contemplate the pools and heads off to the stairway that leads upwards. Taking a bit of string he stretches it lightly across the bottom of the stairs in such a way that anyone passing would knock it to the ground but have little chance of noticing it.
I don't know that Runk would put much thought into it but it might be interesting to take water from the "clean" pool and dump it in the summoning pool.
GM Dak |
The summoning pool is beyond your knowledge so you do not know abouything about it aside from the fact that it is magic and has an extremely strong aura of conjuration. It still glows with magic even with the stuff that Kesten did to it.
Runk do you mean the stairs down? The set of stairs you haven't gone into yet? The stairs up are the ones on the other side of the create/purify water pool.
Runk |
Sorry my mistake, I thought the ones we hadn't taken yet were up but yes, the set down we haven't gone down yet. He's just setting an indicator to see if anything passes from/to the area we haven't explored yet.
Blake Deverin |
By the DM's response I'll take that to mean we have done all we can with the magic pool at least until we are higher levels. I say we take a quick peek at the down stairs. If it looks like a dead end or only a few rooms then let's get it done, but should we find another full complex level we should come back up and rest for the night.
Blake will take and use the statue's ranseur and leave the old monster one behind.
GM Dak |
After Runk returns from scouting the steps and confirms they are blocked you all head back out of the tunnels and up into the Glassworks. After having been underground for so long it takes a little time for your eyes to adjust but it is nice to get some fresh air. It is about noon when you emerge from the underground passages.
Runk |
Runk slides his dagger and sword into their sheaths and stretches his arms out wide as he takes a deep breath.
Noting the position of the sun he simply says, "Lunch." before heading back towards the inn. The imps wings, still hanging from his belt, flop and flutter in the breeze caused by his quick pace.
Zizouket |
Zizou follows Runk and Kesten to get some food. He uses prestidigitation to clean himself up while they wait for the food to arrive. After having a meal and an ale at the Rusty Dragon, he goes to the Hagfish to sit in on a game as usual.
Blake Deverin |
As the others head of to fill their bellies, Blake instead seeks out the mayor to report on what they accomplished. "I will catch up with you all later." He is eager to enjoy a good ale and a good meal but duty insists that be put off for the time being.
