Hello all! If you wouldn't mind, ninja dot here until we are ready to start!

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

You have been aboard the Peregrine for nearly three weeks now, and are finally reaching your destination: the newly established colony of Talmandor’s Bounty on the island of Ancorato (named after the ship captain who discovered it).

This island is located in the Arcadian Ocean. This ocean and the many islands that dot it are all that are left of the great ancient nation of Azlant after Starfall destroyed the landmass and changed not only the course of history, but the very geography of the Inner Sea realms.

The first group of colonists sailed aboard the Liberty’s Herald and arrived on Ancorato 10 weeks later.

These settlers began their work, constructing homes and community buildings and planting crops. Meanwhile, the Liberty’s Herald sailed back to Andoran, and another ship was scheduled to arrive 6 months later with supplies and additional colonists.

The Liberty’s Herald brought numerous tools, such as wood axes, shovels, saws, barrels of nails, and an anvil—everything necessary for multiple work crews to perform carpentry, farming, masonry, and smithing work. Foodstuffs, including grains, hardy vegetables, preserves, and salted meats, were also transported to help the colonists in their first few months while they planted crops, assessed the lay of the land, and located reliable game. The Liberty’s Herald also left one of its ship’s boats at the colony so the first group of colonists could move around the island by water. The Peregrine also carries supplies and materials, but as it was anticipated that the tools from the first ship are still available, its cargo contains much more food and a small herd of goats.

Just as you have, they left their homes, lives, and families behind in pursuit of the challenges of raising a brand new city state. The work will be hard.. both manual and mental.. as the colony sets up a working government based upon the Colony Charter and the Andoran backers and sponsors of this project. The individual colonists each have their own motivations for joining the colony, but certain incentives and potential rewards appeal to just about anyone. If the Bountiful Venture Company successfully exports goods from Ancorato, each settler in the first few groups of colonists is entitled to a small share of the profits. This occurs only after the initial costs of the settlement are recouped, which may take years.

Additionally, these early settlers receive a land grant once the colony becomes self-sufficient. These benefits serve to make early settlers feel invested in the venture while motivating them to work hard to quickly build an infrastructure for future settlers and industry. Colony leaders Rayland Arkley (from the first group to arrive on the Liberty’s Herald) and Ramona Avandth (on the Peregrine) are promised marginally larger shares.

The Peregrine is a three-masted sailing ship with a spritsail on the bow. The vessel is 100 feet long and 25 feet across at its widest point. There are three decks and the ship can accommodate a cargo volume of 180 tons. Two ship’s boats, used to ferry passengers and cargo ashore, are stacked on top of each other on the top deck.

Aboard the ship with you have been traveling with almost 50 other colonists, as well as a contingent of soldiers for the Colony security, and the 20 or so crewmen required to man the ship.

The day dawns fair and bright in this tropical area.. there is nothing but the same empty blue that has been surrounding you for oh so long now. The sun is cresting the horizon and you begin moving about, anticipating that landfall should be any day now!

Tall and muscular, Noiraigue has a weathered face, half of which is hidden behind a chaotic beard ranging from halzelnut to a deep black with red gleam. The beard is burnt in some places and thicker in some others. In one spot, the burnt area spreads through the flesh and the bone is barely visible, making the man a pretty ugly sight.

Noiraigue stands 6 feet 6 tall and has a thick provincial accent. Wrapped in a long and warm cloak, he wears a scale mail and an incredible set of weapon: scythe, lucerne hammer, estoc and shortbow is all he has on him, with a full backpack. Under his armor, he seems to wear a traveler's outfit.

You already noticed after weeks aboard the same ship that Noiraigue isn't very suited to social interactions but tries his best, often pretty clumsily. He however likes a good laugh and is very interested in religious debate. The man is also curious by nature but seems scarred both in his flesh and his mind.

He spends most of his time observing the sea during the day, taking down several notes in a heavy book, and sketching the sky and the stars during a part of the nights. He seems to have an odd custom: once the day is ending, he spends hours dancing in what seems like a random pattern on the ship's upper deck.

Katria Bitterstream has kept to herself for most of the journey. That is not to say that she has been impolite, or always rejected the company of others, but she has not sought anyone's company or been overly friendly. Handsome and lean, but certainly not slender, she keeps her dark hair back and away from her face. Her eyes are dark and beautiful, as most anyone who has spoken to her has noticed by now--she has a way of maintaining eye contact through silence and conversation and seems unaware of how it sometimes makes others feel uncomfortable.

She wears loose clothing with a sword, buckler, and bow on her most of the time. When not looking out to sea or engaged in the communal aspects of the ship, she studies what literature she can or takes notes in a journal.

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Typo noted in my original post: You have been aboard the ship nearly SIX weeks, not three.

For most of the trip, a trio of figures creates an odd sight. A battle-hardened dwarf with scars, tattoos, and the sides of his head shaved stands silent vigil over a pair of passengers, perhaps as a bodyguard.

The gnome the dwarf guards is a curious sight. Dressed in flamboyant attire, the gnome nevertheless seems like he's trying not to draw attention to himself. He's not very successful at this endeavor.

His eyes occasionally glow red. His mustache and beard are intermittently pure white or black. He speaks to no other passenger, though frequently to himself or to the third figure: a small, draconic creature perched on the gnome's shoulder. It looks weary, as if it hasn't slept in days.

The gnome frequently looks over his shoulder or the side of the ship. Occasionally, he draws a small compass-like device from his belt and checks the direction of the ship. If any passenger comes near, the dwarf puts up a hand to stop them from speaking with the gnome, but never says anything.

Having a little fun here...bear with me as I reveal my character. How long it takes depends on how astute you are. :)

DC 15 Spellcraft:
The gnome is using cantrips (prestidigitation, ghost sound) to create magical effects around himself, such as the glowing eyes or white beard.

DC 17 Will (if interacting with dwarf bodyguard):
The dwarf is an illusion! The gnome keeps the illusion going perpetually through Effortless Trickery.

A young grippli spends most of his voyage at the bow, staring at the ocean. He is dressed in oddly native looking garb, as if he were a relic from the past. However, anyone who approaches him is met warmly with an enthusiastic greeting.

I can't wait to see the look on Jonas' face! He really never thought I would make the cut.

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Ok, We will get underway. The last intro post can be worked into this next part or handled as a retcon.

The remaining days of the voyage drag on, as all journeys do. They always seem to take longer once the end is in sight! Finally, after six long weeks and a few days, this morning the crew of the Peregrine spotted land to the west.. the island that is to be your new home. Eagerly, the new colonists rush topside, clamoring to catch sight of their destination and whooping with glee at the idea of having solid ground under their feet once more!

A few hours later, the Peregrine sails into a natural bay with a sandy beach within rowing distance for the ship’s boats. As the crew begins to untie one of the smaller boats to lower it into the water, the sailors pass a spyglass among themselves and finally hand it back to the captain. Captain Jacob Markosi peers at the island for a moment before grunting and handing the spyglass to expedition leader Ramona Avandth. “You should see this,” he says quietly.

Ramona accepts the spyglass and peers toward the shore. When she lowers the scope, she is clearly distressed but trying to hide her worry. She turns to the press of passengers standing at the rail, and slips through the crowd. As she does so, she singles out five individuals, gently tapping them on the shoulder and motioning towards the far side of the deck, away from where most of the other colonists have congregated. Each of you get a whispered "Can I have a word with you?" before she moves on to the next.

Meeting you all along the outside rail, she looks between your faces as if judging your character once more before explaining herself. “We have a problem,” Ramona says bluntly. She offers the spyglass around the group and explains, “Something is wrong. Nobody’s in sight. There’s no smoke from cook fires or the smithy. Some of the buildings look burned out.”
Anyone using the spyglass to examine the island can confirm this report as stated. The town is too far off to make out very much, but there is no activity, no smoke, and no sounds make it across the water to your ears.

Ramona continues speaking even as you take turns examining the island, her voice low. “Sailors can’t keep their mouths shut. Soon all the other colonists are going to hear about this— if they can’t see for themselves already— and things could become... tense.” She pauses for a moment, allowing you to consider her words before she continues. "I would like to send a small group ashore to investigate the Colony while we sail around the bay to another site that was chosen as an emergency back up. I think that you will suffice for that if you are willing to assist me." She pauses expectantly, eyes roving from person to person as she awaits your responses.

"But of course!" replies Noiraigue eagerly, jumping on his feet, dropping from the railing where he stood sat.

He follows Ramona Avandth, genuinely interested in seeing what he can do to help. After all these weeks of travel and the general reclusion of the confined space that is a ship, Noiraigue can't wait any longer to use his feet to walk on solid ground. Solid unknown ground.

Once on the rail, he listens carefully and nods, while a large grin grows on his face.

"Aye aye ! Your command is understood and will be done ! You can me, Noiraigue, to lead this expedition without trouble." he replies when he thinks he's allowed to speak.

He really looks he tries his best to hold his feeling but all the cells in Noiraigue's body seem to display his eagerness to go on solid ground.

The gnome looks around at the five assembled passengers. He hasn't said a word to any of them during the entire voyage.

Uh oh...this is going exactly as expected...

"Excuse me...I must consult with my dangerous bodyguard," he says, then walks from the group to talk with the dwarf.

He says a few words to his dwarven companion, who nods. Whatever he says over there sounds a little bizarre, and is accompanied by some strange gestures.

DC 15 Spellcraft:
He actually cast ghost sound, which is amplifying his voice.

When he returns, his voice resonates and sounds amplified, as if he were a giant speaking inside a cave.

"You were wise to come to me, for I am none other than The Dread Mage Arcandantilus! Because I am so powerful and dangerous, I will accomplish this with relative ease! Any enemies of the expedition will cower before my might!" he bellows, perhaps a little too loudly for the secrecy the expedition leader was hoping for.

At the request for private conversation, Katria nods curtly and follows Ramona to her speaking place. Having learned by now that even whispered conversations rarely remain secret aboard a ship for long, she leans close as Ramona speaks.

My apologies, I've been very busy lately, but I should be able to post with more regularity now.

Appearing slightly shocked she was chosen by Ramona for this task, the young human woman slowly begins to nod her head yes. Slightly taller than the average for her gender, the woman's chestnut colored hair falls just below her shoulders, while her bright hazel eyes show a hint of worry as she contemplates the task put before the group. Clad in a form-fitting, stylish traveler's outfit, she appears quite athletic as if either she works on being fit or is constantly running from something. A rapier hangs from her hip, and a well-made backpack is slung loosely around her shoulders.

After a moment of processing the situation, an easy smile falls upon her face and all doubt seems to be erased, "Oh, sure, I'd be happy to help. It should be a cinch with such powerful companions by my side." She pauses then looks at the others, "In case we haven't met, Anastasia Asheton, at your service. Let's go make sure everybody is okay!"

The gnome nods in greeting to the others, but seems taken aback by Noiraigue's suggestion that he take the lead. His voice continues to resonate ominously.

"The Dread Mage Arcandantilus, though powerful, does not take the lead! I will take the most prudent course of action, where I can direct things from the rear. But do not fear! With my help, there is nothing that can stand in our way!"

The dwarf nods silently but appreciatively.

"I should say, it will not help you to speak with my dwarven bodyguard. First, he is mute. Second, he takes great offense if he ever thinks I'm in danger. It would be better not to talk to him."

bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

DC 28 Sense Motive:
The gnome is lying about the dwarf.

"So...shall we get off this boat?"

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Ramona looks over the small group and a measure of pride slowly replaces the trepidation in her eyes. "Thank you. There are soldiers here aboard the ship, but I need them here in case the crowd gets rowdy while we are figuring this out."

She casts a worried glance over the colonists assembled on the deck before continuing. "I have some potions here.. you most likely won't need them, but just in case I want you to have them. Here is what I will need. We will drop you off here, while we move over to the back up landing site to investigate that. I will need you to explore the colony site and see what is going on there. If there is anything amiss, you will have to travel overland to meet up with us at the alternate site. We will remain there for three days.. and then we must find another option. We don't have enough food or water to make it back to Andoran. We will rely on your reports to decide what our next course of action may be. I can provide you with a crude map of the island from when they did a basic survey after discovery. Do you have any questions?"

Concluding her statement, she motions a guard over and asks him to retrieve some items from her cabin. When he returns, she turns and hands you a battered and well used scroll case with a map of the island and a small pouch containing four vials.

If there are no further questions or comments, Ramona will gesture to the crew and call for a boat to be lowered. No mechanics for climbing in.. just go for it!

Oh right, physical descriptions are a thing! It turns out I did post one earlier, but I overlooked some critical details, so I'll repost it here.

Handsome and lean, but certainly not slender, Katria keeps her dark hair back and away from her face under a brimmed hat. Peeking out from under the hat are dark dark and beautiful eyes, almost always curious, as most anyone who has spoken to her has noticed by now--she has a way of maintaining eye contact through silence and conversation and seems unaware of how it sometimes makes others feel uncomfortable. Katria would be considered moderately attractive by most... if her more unusual features do not put them off too much. Although she appears otherwise human, she sports a pair of gills on her neck, and her skin always shines with an oily sheen.

She wears loose clothing with a sword, buckler, and bow on her most of the time.

Also, GM, although I took care of background, I realized that I forgot to take care of the rest of her adventuring EQ. I'll take care of that in the next couple of days.

--

"What are the potions?" Katria asks, all business, as she takes the pouch. "What will you do if we don't meet you in three days?"

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Katria catches Ramona's attention with her questions. Turning back to the group, she answers. "Hmm?? Oh, yes.. if you should get into some trouble, the potions shall help you heal. I pray you don't need them, but there's just no telling at this point."

The pause before she answers the second question nearly grows pregnant with dire foreboding as she considers before answering. "To be honest, I have no idea. We are too short of food and water to make it back.. That will have to be a bridge we burn when we get there! Lets just count on you being there. Technically, you should make by tomorrow night or sometime the third day so even if you run into some trouble, there should be plenty of time to reunite!"

He makes a silent yet compassionate nod at the dwarf.

The man then turns towards Anastasia to welcome her and listens Ramona's last information.

"Yes, yes ! We shall be wary and cautious. How can we contact you ? Do you have any means for that ? Also, do you have a map of the island ?" asks the man.

|Ruins |WBGoblins|RotRL| Emerald Spire|

Glickly's knowledge in these areas is light, but a creature in the water is nothing new to the shaman of the deep blue. He pulls out a net, and throws it at the very close attacker. Assuming AoO here.

Net Throw - ranged touch attack, sitting: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 2 = 16

Net Effect for easy reference:
If you hit, the target is entangled. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty on Dexterity, can move at only half speed, and cannot charge or run. If you control the trailing rope by succeeding on an opposed Strength check while holding it, the entangled creature can move only within the limits that the rope allows. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make a concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell.

An entangled creature can escape with a DC 20 Escape Artist check (a full-round action). The net has 5 hit points and can be burst with a DC 25 Strength check (also a full-round action). A net is useful only against creatures within one size category of you.

Delaying for now unless a boat square adjacent to the blue enemy opens up.

I think the rope is 10' length. The description doesn't say, but that's what max range is.

Glickly mutters a quick incantation and suddenly his long tongue shoots out into the water, toward the thing in his net.

Casting touch of fatique
10' reach touch attack: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18

M Human Stargazer 1 | HP: 12/13 | AC: 16 ; T: 11 ; FF: 15 ; CMD: 16 | Fort: +4 ; Ref: +3 ; Will: +2 [+4 vs charm and compulsion effects] | Init: +8 ; Perc: +6 [+10 vs ambushs] | Speed 20 ft.

Wow ouch! Are these creatures by any chance aberrations?

Noiraigue is taken aback by the mighty blow he received under his armor and, not wanting to tempt Desna, attacks while remaining seated.

Scythe: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 2 = 12
for Slashing Damage: 2d4 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12
+3/+3 if it's an aberration.

I took the liberty of adding an icon for my bodyguard, Grimnir.

acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12

'The Dread Mage Arcandantilus' shrieks in a most unfearsome manner as the bizarre creatures attack the boat. Apparently, his constant looking over the side didn't protect him from danger.

He scrambles to a safer position, where he extends a hand. A vibrant spray of color strikes one of the goblins-like creatures.

Color Spray, DC 17 Will

F Human Swashbuckler 1 - HP 11/11 - AC 18/T: 13/FF: 15 - Perception +4 - Fort: +1, Ref: +5, Will: +0 - CMB: +1, CMD: 14 - Speed 30 - Init. +3

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Anastasia stands up in the boat, keeping her balance. She then moves to the other side by the blue enemy while drawing her rapier. "Well, this certainly wasn't the welcome committee I was hoping for!"

Move Action: Stand up, Move Action: Move to the other side of the boat.

- INACTIVE - (GM abandoned game)

if standing up from a seated position is a move action rather than a free action then Katria will need to stay seated... She can't draw a weapon as part of a move action yet

F Human Swashbuckler 1 - HP 11/11 - AC 18/T: 13/FF: 15 - Perception +4 - Fort: +1, Ref: +5, Will: +0 - CMB: +1, CMD: 14 - Speed 30 - Init. +3

Conversely, if standing isn't a move action, then Ana will make a rapier attack this round.

Wow.. Ok. Lets take this one thing at a time..
Glickly: Sounds about right to me..
Noi: Actually, they are!! Thank you.. you will most likely have to remind me about that for a while until I get more familiar with yall.
Katria and Anastasia: Considering the circumstances, I am not going to consider standing up from your seats in the boat to be a move action. The only information I can find refers to Prone, and I am not going to penalize yall like that especially when the book goes out of the way to NOT do so either.
PW: My apologies sir. Thank you!

Katria re: Knowledge:
Nothing really special about these things, so I am not going to waste time playing 20 questions lol. These are aquatic aberrations that live underwater but surface to harass other species. They can use their tentacles to trip their opponents and are intelligent but very vicious creatures. No other special attacks/weaknesses/strengths.

Katria stands, drawing her sword and slashing down at the tentacled creature attacking the boat. Her sword neatly parts the things head from it's shoulders, leaving the newly created chum to season the waters.

Glickly flicks his tongue out into the water to lick the back of the icky goblin octopus thing, leaving the creature incredibly tired and fatigued!

The creature stays below the water, fighting the net! It brings its short spear in close and tries to saw away at the hemp!
Dmg: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

The rest of the group holds their breaths, waiting for the creature to reappear!
All other actions this round are considered readied and do not land because the grindylow didn't resurface. PW keep your spell. Glickly, you can try a Str check to pull it aboard and may be assisted by others as needed.. or whatever else you may desire o try :-)

Realizing the identity of the creatures, Noiraigue almost changes face. His expression darkens and he begins to grit his teeth. Eyes flickering with red, he drops the scythe on the boat, stands up and dives in the water towards the creature.

"Wretched creature. Your time has come." he mutters before diving.

Acrobatics: 1d20 - 3 ⇒ (15) - 3 = 12

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

Anastasia almost looks disappointed when Katria kills the grindylow with one hit. She instead moves back to her original spot and waits to see if Noiraigue will do the same. "Taking out the last octopus thing, I guess."

I'll go full defense just in case.

Katria nods and decides to watch. Delaying

Glickly holds the rope but doesn't try to pull it in. He was more just trying to delay it and scare it off rather than actually capture it.

Please refer to my post in discussion. NM if you so desire, you may still take a standard action.

The rest of the team looks on in shock as Noiraigue jumps into the water and starts to slosh towards the creature struggling in the net being held by Glickly.

"What is he doing!" the gnome asks nervously.

"This kind of shenanigans are likely to overturn the whole boat!"

If I can draw my estoc while moving, I'll attack the lad. If I can't, I'll draw my estoc. I'm rolling the dice in case you allow it.

Noiraigue attacks the filthy aberration with all his anger.
