12/15/18 - 10/11/13 Social Media Booster (CPR),

You've been called to a briefing in the Absalom Lodge by Venture-Captain Adril Hestram. He's a bear of a man with only a few teeth remaining in his head, and he motions you into the meeting hall with a casual wave of his grizzled hand. The human captain outweighs most of Absalom’s half-orcs, and though a layer of beefy blubber coats his frame, those of you who have tangled with him in the Lodge sparring ring know that beneath this thin veneer of fat lies nothing but solid, steely sinew. Adril’s wild beard wags to the ponderous shake of his massive head as he examines a scrap of ancient parchment on the table before raising his eyes to greet your gaze and speaking:

Come in then, friends, and thank you for answering my summons so swiftly. The Society is in need.

An old and quite penniless historian, a bespectacled wag-beard by the name of Yargos Gill has recently made a discovery in an old archive that
we have a great interest in obtaining: an ancient codebook, left behind in the wake of one of Taldor’s many failed attempts at invasion. This several-hundred-year-old text would prove an excellent addition to our collection, and must be preserved.

Yargos makes his home in ‘The Puddles.’ It’s never been a kind place, but recent reports reveal some new nameless terror on her waterlogged streets. Several persons claim to have seen cloaked, skeletal-like figures marching through an unnatural fog. Ill tidings indeed - unless there's a bad batch of rotgut going around.

Find Yargos, fellow Pathfinders, and find the codebook. Your exploits
will be recorded in the Chronicles if you succeed.

Now I can't imagine you have many questions for a milk-run like this, but I've got a couple minutes if you need me. Otherwise best go soon-lest some yellow-toothed thug cut Yargos down, or, he snorts, one of these strange wraiths carry him beyond the pale.

A tall man with features equal parts Varisian and Ulfen stands front and center. A greatsword lay sheathed on his back with the sword-and-sunburst symbol of Iomedae etched into its handle. He wears a breastplate adorned with the same symbol. The man breathes in slow, deliberate, as if preparing himself for battle.

He asks Adril, This evil, I assume if we have the chance, we may exorcise it, provided we do not compromise our mission? The citizens of the Puddles must be protected.

He turns to the others assembled. Greetings. Hamith Caid, at your service. I have been commissioned by the Society to destroy evil in the lost and secret places of the world.

A slender elf stands and hears the Venture-Captain Adril Hestram.
She has on a well made but simple leather uniform like outfit. Thou of no army any one there knows. In her right boot is a simple cold Iron Dagger, Handing from her belt a light cross bow. Her Hair is long bit tied back, She has on a pear of smoked glasses. She nodes as Hamith asks his question.

Lady Alya De-Qill

Then as he gives his name she smiles and says.

"Salutations and greetings Hamith and my fellows. I am the lady Lady Alya De-Qill, of the Dusk elf Family De-Qill. It is nice to meet you all. I have been requested to assist in this endeavor, because of my specialty of solving such conundrums as this."

The dwarven lass that was removing dirt from under her finger nails looks up. She is wearing a chain shirt with a darkwood buckler strapped to one arm. The buckler is has the sigil of a charging badger painted on it. A heavy crossbow leans against her chair.

"Hi Hamith, Alya and the rest of you. I am Kara. I am here to find my uncle. Have you heard of him? His name is Harsk and supposedly he works for the society. According to the society my best bet to find him is to do some assignments for them, as I should find myself on the same assignment on a lucky day. So here I am."

She turns to the Venture Captain "These wraiths, do you have any information on them?"

A massive half-orc, as tall and nearly as bulky as Venture-Captain Hestram, leans against the wall. A small gold ring pierces his septum, and he has long grey-black dreadlocks bound simply together at the back of his head. He's not clad in any armor, nor for that matter much clothing--his outfit is little more than a chest wrap, loin cloth, and sandals. When he speaks, you hear a clipped, Osiriani accent.

"I am Hengist! Fist of the mountain, bearer of great rocks, and sole pupil of Rajana Shul-Therax Jawahi, the Emerald Princess, First under the Mountain, Whose Praises are Sung by the Xill. Well met, Kara, Alya, Hamith. I am pleased to have gained entrance into this Society. I know none of you; perhaps you have seen me performing in the Petals district, though. Yes?" He grins and strikes a pose, muscles bulging.

Relaxing, he turns to the Venture-Captain. "I too am curious about these spirits. Can they be fought, as a man or beast can?"

12/15/18 - 10/11/13 Social Media Booster (CPR),

Any undead evils you want to exorcise around here are fair game, Hamith, but I don't want any of you getting too worked up about these 'misty spectres' - the best way to fight them might just be by staying sober!

He spends a while laughing at his own joke before continuing, If they do turn out to be real undead, don't panic. Just let your Cleric deal with- He looks around at the group again, realizing his mistake, Umm... Carry some Holy Water? Aside from that, if they've got skin, chop 'em up; if they don't, smash 'em. That's always been a good starting place for me.

Anything else for Adril?

Sovereign Court

Alya and not asked much as she was taking notes into a small note book, with what looked to be a silver point pen. She says still making notes.

"You said Yargos Gill, could I ask how you came to know he had found this ancient codebook? And said he found it in an old archive, could I ask who's old archive that was? and last of all, do you have a more complete address for him other than the The Puddles"

She stops and looks up expectantly, waiting for his reply

12/15/18 - 10/11/13 Social Media Booster (CPR),

I don't know exactly where he found the book, but ol' Yargos isn't exactly shy when he thinks he's got a score. That's part of why we're sending you off to collect him. He's the kind who spends a lot of time drinking his chickens before he stops to see if they're even eggs, let alone before he puts them away so the Fox doesn't get them!

He pauses, clearly lost in his own well stretched metaphor before he shakes his head and continues, You could try his house, but you'd be more likely to find him at The Soggy Piper - it's a bar near there.

He turns to the Venture-Captain and asks, "Do we have time to purchase a few things or is this Yargos Gill in eminent peril?" "And further, how will we know Yargos when we see him?" "Can you describe him?"

You can go ahead and stock up if you feel the need. We want you to get out there and find him soon, but it's not like he's dangling from a cliff or anything.

Aside from that, Adril gives you a pretty good description of Yargos:
Older human, stringy white hair, spectacles, fullish beard that sort of thing, likely to be wearing somewhat threadbare robes.

Hamith smiles, but in his eyes there is a hint of pain behind it. "I have not chanced upon Harsk, but have heard of his mettle while talking with others at the Grand Lodge. I know too well of family within the Society. My little brother is a newly confirmed initiate."

Scars criss-cross the palm of his right hand and down his forearm. He rotates his wrist, working it loose. As he does, he says to Hengist, Alya, and Giladref, "I confess, I haven't much experience with elves, or the Petals District either, but I am sure we will become fast allies and keep each other safe. In about an hour you all reassemble and head out to The Puddles. By the time you make it to the Soggy Piper you, and your drenched boots, have no doubt how this district got its name. The surroundings are made more miserable than usual by a thick fog - though at least it has stopped raining for now.

That moment of luck seems to have deserted you though, as the frightened staff of the Piper have a tale of fresh woe.

Yargos is gone.

A gang of young tattooed thugs arrived ahead of you, grabbed Yargos and the friends he was dining with and headed off towards the cliffs at Torsen's Maw. The watch has been called, but in the Puddles, you'd be surprised if they bothered to even show before dawn.

You race towards Torsen's Maw, where you see six brash young toughs covered with tattoos of vicious, snarling dogs are circling four terrified older men at the edge of a short cliff above the sea.

The prisoners are shackled together with shoddy, heavy chains, which shall surely drag them to the sea floor in short order should they tumble from the cliff’s edge into the churning waters below.

These would-be-murderers have seen you, and with sneers and tattooed snarls, are about to fling these men to their deaths - what do you do?

Seeing that the team around him has things pretty well in hand, and seeing that the man clinging to the edge of the cliff is not doing well, Hengist turns to Hamith. "With your permission, friend!" Then, moving carefully, he backs around the paladin and suddenly takes off sprinting toward the dangling victims.

"Hello friends! Grab hold!"

I provoke an attack of opportunity from blue war hounder. If I can grab the victims without spending a standard action, I do so! Hengist can lift up to 600 pounds off the ground, so hopefully he can at least hold them. :P

Actions:

Full-round: Withdraw. Careful combatant allows the first two squares I move through (to the right of Hamith) to count as unthreatened.

Hamith's foe flings himself out of the way of the paladin's great blade and swipes at Hengist as he runs past to grab the hand of a very weary retiree.

Dru's daring slide carries her out of the way of Alya's second bolt leaving one War Hounder standing there, weakly clutching at the bolt in his back, and the other yelping in pain trying vainly to pin down the halfling.

@Lady Alya, Hengist is spot on about flanking and precise shot, but happily for you, on this occasion by the time you took your shot, Dru had moved into Green's space, so yellow wasn't engaged.

Giladref points his finger at the nearest thug (yellow) and whispers something that sounds like "zap".

A glowing bolt of liquid erupts from his finger at the man.

He then skirts up the cliff side of the battle to try and help Hengist with cliff hangers drawing a dagger. Bow in left and dagger in right.

I think he can move that far without provoking AOs.

Giladref's bolt of acid flies past its target, but the thug removes his bladed gauntlet with a groan, I yield. Mercy, please.

His companions are less impressed. One lashes out at Dru as she darts in and around his legs, the other continues his assault on Hamith I'm winning so far! Neither of them have any success.

Hengist sets his feet at the cliff's edge and, gritting his teeth, attempts to haul the first man in the dangling chain back onto solid ground. "Hrrrrahhhh!"

Not sure what kind of action that is, but I'm guessing at least a standard? Also not sure if a check is required.

Strength check if needed?: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

"Drop your weapons, lie on the ground, face down with your hands behind your back." Giladref orders in a gruff voice at the thug.

Once the thug is on the ground, Giladref kicks the gauntlet away. "My lady, hurry and help Hengist. I will watch this one."

Giladref keeps the dagger handy if yellow tries to get up or attack unarmed.

"Kara, come forward. Do you have any rope by chance?"

12/15/18 - 10/11/13 Social Media Booster (CPR),

Yep, Standard and a Strength check are both required.

Hengist the Mighty is able to keep the men from slipping farther, but his footing slips, and he cannot haul them up. Yet.

Round 3

Alya passes Giladref saying

In evlish:

"I shall Giladref, I thank you"

Then she is past him and skirting around the fight runs to Hengist, she drops her light cross bow, and looks to grab hold of Hengist Belt. Hoping to keep him from falling over. So long as he can keep hold of the old ones.

"I am here Hengist, hold on, the others will be here soon"

double move 60', then grabs hold of Hengist belt, Acrobatics check to grab hold. 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17 I don't think she can aid this round.

Hamith tries once more to connect with his greatsword. His voice sounds hoarse from being unused for awhile, and he nearly startles himself when he speaks aloud.

"We finish this now, villain!"

Kara quickly goes through the saddlebags on her mule and removes a rope. She quickly moves to Giladref with it. Well, quickly for a dwarf anyway...

Hamith drops his opponent with a well practiced swing, and with that the other War Hounder gives up, dropping his weapons.

Hengist and Lady Alya are able to haul the very grateful prisoners to the top of the cliffs where they lie gasping until you are able to break them free from their shackles.

Yargos enthuses, Thank you so much! I-I don't want to think about what would have happened if you hadn't been here. How did you know that the Black Echelon have risen?!

"Sorry not really, here to get a book you said you had for sale, but I have to ask, who are they?"

She then goes and picks up the shackles and her light cross bow. Fixing the later back in place on her belt.

"The Black Echelon have risen?! Here?!!" Hengist bellows, sounding quite furious despite not knowing what they are. He points at the remaining War Hounders. "Tell me, O Yargos--are these they? Or their accomplices?" He cracks his knuckles menacingly.
