As Kato darts ahead, Theo starts to protest, but stops himself and scowls.

He heads that direction at a more leisurely pace, calling for Fairbeaks as he goes. The axebeak, engrossed in eating the errant grubs still writhing on the floor, snaps up a few more, before squawking in protest, and following along.

12/15/18 - 10/11/13 Social Media Booster (CPR),

The corridors wind and twist towards the next chamber in a way that you expect would be very confusing if you were a charging invading army, but as seasoned explorers it takes more than a few extra lefts to discombobulate you.

Four large unadorned stone sarcophagi stand upright in alcoves along the north and south edges of this chamber, while a fifth stands on a small platform to the west. Above the platform, a large inscription reads, "They gave their lives to battle death."

Before this rather grim memorial stand three clearly deceased warriors. At the front are two headless riders class in ragged black robes and tarnished armor, their steeds clearly touched by one of the lower planes. Even looking upon them you can feel a shiver run down your spine. Behind them awaits a more substantially armored samurai, her eyes blazing with unholy fury. She sits a ghostly horse and levels a katana glimmering with a sheen of ice as you approach. From the illustration in the Tome of Righteous Repose, you think you recognize Michiko, one of the Yohanatotsu sisters.

12/15/18 - 10/11/13 Social Media Booster (CPR),

Nicklod identifies Theo's foe as a Dullahan, a knight among many undead courts, and a pyschopomp of the unwilling. Their most famous trick is a curse which can loosen the grip of a soul upon the body it animates. Succumbing to that curse means that you'll be staggered for d6 rounds, and for the next day all crits will automatically confirm, and all stabilization checks will fail.

Theo's baleful blade fells the creature before him, rendering the knowledge slightly academic but for the Dullahan's partner.

Concentration: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Concentration: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

Unfortunately Nicklod's faith fails him in the face of the unliving blasphemy that leads these undead, and despite his cries of condemnation, no energy surges forth.

It's hard for a creature with no head to appear arrogant, but the remaining Dullahan puts in the effort as it glides forward to join its mistress's battle against Kato, battering aside the desperate trickster's blade with callous ease.

Oh my god these things are vicious. How the heck am I supposed to survive! Katos mind was scrambling. Still he had backup now in the form of that Axebeak. That was excellent news indeed.

Had to go get a more tactical position. That's the coward's way to fight. Get a good spot, stab em in the weak spot. This whole going toe to toe thing was for the birds, like that one. And for Dwarves, I suppose.

Delaying Ash for now...

Flora's blast once more shatters against the thick plate of the Dullahan, while Kato manages to find a weakpoint in Michiko's armor and strikes!

Unfortunately at the last moment there is a flare of the same sickly green energy that coats her sword, and his own blade is deflected away.

You have run enough. Her voice is cold and frail, whatever's left within her armor unable to muster more volume.

But the same training and dedication now harnessed to the forces of darkness finally makes its mark on the brave kitsune, and he falls.

No worries. I'd guessed that full damage got added for the AE as it happened... with the intent of reducing it if the save was made... but then forgot it'd already been added it, and added half damage on top.
