Kess inspects the goblin, not coming up with much. The force of Obozaya's blow practically tore it to bits. Still, its gear remains salvageable, though likely no better than what Zo! has provided.

Goblin Loot!:
  • Studded Flight Suit
  • Dogslicer (does 1d4 slashing damage)
  • Makeshift Engineering Tools (engineering tool kit with a -1 penalty)
  • Unstable Scrapshot Pistol with 8 rounds (let's say make an Engineering check to learn more)

With that grisly salvage out of the way, the goblin's point of ingress looms ahead: A hole in the chamber 20 feet above the ground. He likely blasted through and climbed down somehow, but the wreckage left behind should get you in reach. The film crew sets up once again to record you clambering up a large pile of debris.

To do this, make a DC 10 Athletics check. You can try as many times as necessary, though failure by 5 or more causes 1d6 damage from falling off. You can use grapples, cable line, and the like to help yourselves or each other. Doubt it'll be too hard for this party, tho.

Unstable Scrapshot Pistol:
This goblin-made gun is cobbled together from all manner of damaged material. It shoots jagged shards of metal, but on particularly awry shots, it may jam itself or even explode!

The gun deals 1d6 piercing damage, holds 4 rounds, and has the bleed 1d4 critical effect. On a natural 1, the wielder must make a DC 18 Engineering check. If successful, it gains the broken condition. A failure means the gun explodes in 1d3-1 rounds, as per a mark I frag grenade.

Obozaya, Kess, and Y2K make their way up the mound quite well. Xochitl botches its first attempt, likely garnering both sympathy and derision on social media. Still, the next try goes much better. A good shot established, the crew shoot grapplers and ascend gracefully. Ignoring any questions along the lines of 'Why couldn't we use those,' they scan the new area.

This chamber looks very much like the last one, with a few minor differences. The walls are coated with phosphorescent fungi, and the ground is shuddering ever so slightly. Every so often, the gravity lapses, for a short enough time to be more annoyance than hazard. Lastly, of course, four dwarves have just burst into the room! They and your film crew eye each other warily.

Their apparent leader, a relatively tall female, is the first to speak. "Hvem er du og hva gjør du her?" It's easy enough to tell that this is Dwarven, even if you don't know what she's saying.

She says something to the dwarves, who, already growing less wary, stow their picks and crossbows. She herself returns a large axe to her back, then starts speaking in a bunch of languages. Most of it is gibberish, but:

To keep things from getting bogged down, anyone can talk to and understand the dwarves. Assume Xochitl or Kess translates a question or comment. However, they should be making most of the social checks that may occur.

The dwarf looks confused, despite being able to understand the shirren. "Goblins? I'm not sure about that turn of phrase. No one lives here but the Marbleheart clan - that is, us - and the orcs. They returned from the surface perhaps several hundred forge-days ago."

DC 11 Culture:
A forge-day is roughly a 24-hour period that measures how much time passes between the time a smith heats a forge for work and the time she returns after rest to restart the process. So, the timeframe she has specified equates to about a year.

"Are you here about them? They have become a problem. Shorter than we were taught, but perhaps more cruel. They carry strange magic weapons from the surface and jabber in a strange language. I can speak Orc, but their tongue is different."

"By the way, I am Ylga Tulgarst, daughter of Ulfrodi. I speak for the Marblehearts. Do you have names?"

"Yes, exactly so!" Ylga responds as Kess describes the so-called orcs. "Our tales and few pictures make them out to be much taller and more burly. Perhaps something on the surface changed them, do you know?"

"Please, come to our camp," she adds without waiting for a response. Wazasha nods excitedly at this prospect. "Now this is a good time for the booth," the ghast notes quietly. The large robot rolls forward, ready to shine. "Kess, if you'd join me there? And how about you, Miss...Ylga?" Despite coaxing and translation, Ylga will not enter the booth. All four dwarves seem a bit leery of the undead, but not outright hostile.

Before the human starts her interview, however, Ylga answers her question. "Not all these tunnels are our home. Some of it, like this cavern, are created as we tunnel ever upward. We have always lived below ground, but a generation ago my ancestors answered Torag’s summons — a tremor that called on our people to seek what lies above in the Quest for Sky. There we shall do our god’s will on Golarion’s surface."

Now, this doozy of an answer has the potential to leave everyone dumbfounded. These dwarves don't seem to have gotten the memo that Golarion disappeared 318 years ago. Where it once was now lies Absalom Station, as everyone knows. After getting over the shock, Wazasha grins, sensing the plot thicken.

DC 11 Mysticism:
Torag was a major dwarven deity who also vanished without a trace during the Gap.

Two chairs pop up from the booth's floor, and once everything is presentable, the ghast fires away. After each question comes another, and for all the Pact Worlds to see!

"What's surprised you about this expedition so far?"

"Do you trust these dwarves? They seem like quite the bumpkins, but maybe they're trying to lead the team on."

"What's surprised you about this expedition so far?"
”What’s surprised me? That not everything is out to kill us. That’s been the biggest surprise. I expected things to come jumping out at us guns blazing and teeth bared. Not the usual mission I can assure you.”

"Do you trust these dwarves? They seem like quite the bumpkins, but maybe they're trying to lead the team on."
”They might be. No I don’t trust them, but they haven’t given me any reason to assume they are out to take advantage of us. I’m certainly not giving up my weapons to follow them.”

She thinks for a minute, and gives the camera a long look.
”Bumpkins? Really? They are just living their lives doing what they need to do to survive, and maybe thrive. It’s just like every other being in the universe. It’s clearly not a fancy life like being a reality TV star or a Starfinder, but it’s theirs. It seems they are doing their best to make it work.”
She pauses for a long time, ”or they are really good actors, and we’re being led to our dooms. We’ll just have to wait and see.”

"You've been able to diffuse things down here without big fights. Is that your preference?
She gives Wazasha a stunned look at that question.
”I prefer to stay below the radar. Usually getting into fights gets you noticed. I like to do my job with a minimum of fuss and go on with my day.”

Do you think that's always an option, perhaps the best one?"
”Do I think fighting is always the best option or not fighting the best option?” She gives a small grin. ”I prefer what I’m doing not be noticed at all until I’m out of the area. That isn’t always an option so I know how to fight.”

"What do you most dislike about being a Starfinder? Like, what really makes you mad?"
”I dislike not being able to pick my missions. Some are just not suited to me.” she gives the camera a look that says this is one of those missions.

"I'm not so sure what you mean, but it might be better discussed at our camp by those wiser than I. They'll sort things out."

Kess scares the audience a bit with her intense answers. Once she exits the booth with Wazasha, the team departs, following the dwarves. After an hour or so of boring trek, the unlikely company reaches a larger clearing. In it lies a dozen stone buildings, rough but complete with reinforced doors and arrow slits. One of them, which looks similar to a squat church, has a massive boulder smashed over the front. A hole in the ceiling suggests it came down, and recently.

A large gathering of dwarves is trying to shift the rock, but scurry over upon Ylga's return. They have a long conversation, in which the new party pays you little mind. The leader turns back to you, looking concerned. "A cave-in occurred while I was away. That boulder has trapped our high priest, Holsin Nolskrit, in the Temple of Torag. If you truly mean well, help us now."

"You could try to assist in shifting the boulder, or-" Instantly after translation, Wazasha is tapping at her datapad, creating a poll. She does her job well. "-My comrades said the fissure created some crawlspace. Given the proximity, there's likely a way into the temple. You might be able to squeeze through. It'd be uncomfortable-" the votes for the latter option shoot up, "-and filled with an odd viscous fluid." Again the votes jump that way.

Wazasha smiles knowingly as she shows a graph of the results, which of course favor slogging through the crevice. By a heavy margin. "You don't have to follow the votes," she consoles. "But in that case, you'd do well to put on a show."

Which would you rather do? If you wish to push the boulder, you'll also have to make social checks indicative of your stage persona, or the fans will get whiny.

Xochitl manages to pass unscathed, and the team makes their way out of the fissure. It leads rather cleanly into a large storage room, which seems to lie at the back of the temple. Through the intended entrance to the closet is a plain room that looks built to serve whatever purpose is required. A few pieces of smashed wooden furniture litter the ground.

Just before choosing which exit to take (or waiting for Wazasha to create a poll), a trill is heard from the north. It's coming from a small puddle peeking around the corner, seemingly made of the same lubricant you just traversed. The blob rears up as best something of its size and shape can. At the same time, similar sounds can be heard from other rooms; this thing isn't alone!

Kess:
The synthetic lubricant clings to you, making it difficult to move quickly, and is resistant to attempts to clean if off. Only time will get all the wretched stuff away.

Essentially, this functions like grease, in that you move at half speed and make Acrobatics checks. Token spell won't entirely clean if off, but would reduce the Acrobatics DC to 6.

Life Science DC 10:

"That us what is known as an autonomous synth fluid. A technology based ooze, it is generally programmed to fix leaks and other system errors. Hitting it with physical weapons causes it to spray internal fluids that are mildly toxic and hard to navigate."

The androids extensive knowledge base over centuries of life do seem to come in handy once in a while when someone actually listens to him.

Y2K draws his semi-auto tactical pistol, moving to the corner of the room and lines his shot up with the entrance.

Readied attack when the ooze comes through the entrance.

The synth fluid oozes its way forward. Y2K easily shoots it as it clears the entryway, leaving a patch of itself behind. (Marked as the green circle.) Two more are close behind, each coming from a different door. Though Xochitl, Obozaya, and Y2K are beset by the things trying to ram into them, the latter two see a much larger blob squelching closer from the west!

Withdraw.

She pulls out her brand new red plasma kukri, and slashes at the creature in front of her.

D'oh! Let's back up a bit, I pulled a Crunch move. The little guys are removed as part of the four-player adjustment. Take back your SP, and actions if you wish, then:

At some trill from the larger blob, the smaller ones close in on it and "jump" inside. This doesn't seem to affect it in any way or give an advantage.

Round Reset

Spotting the giant thing, the black orb circling Xochitl's head flares into a golden fire and engulfs it with a bright sheen. Moving forward, the shirren makes a strange guttural sounds, as if it's going to vomit.

Suddenly a gout of acid flies out of it's mouth.

Was about to say I'd bot Kess tomorrow, then realized I had somehow signed myself out!

Also, Obozaya, the little oozes are now gone. The big one is out of your reach, but you could get to it and make a single attack. You're welcome to do that or retcon the round and then take the next one.

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11

Kess and Y2K both take potshots at the blob, which seem to hurt it. With two little splats each bullet causes some of the thing's mass to fly every which way. Xochitl closes in and spits acid right back at it. Though not the deftest of dodgers, it doesn't seem to be as hurt as it could've been.

Slam vs. Xochitl: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9

Now alerted to a meal, it sloshes forward and rams itself into the shirren. It connects solidly, undeterred by the prey's lack of meat.

Obazaya will attack the big one by first moving and making a single attack. Without the -4 penalty it would have been:

ember flame doshko - attack 1: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
doshko damage 1, F, powered: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
