Valandil Anwamanë |
Valandil continues to try and rain (acid) on the necrophidius's parade.
ranged touch attack into melee: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
GM Crash |
After all the acid and damage that the necrophidius took, it fell over into the pit, destroyed. Combat over! When the sarcophagus in the vault is opened, they see a corpse that is very well preserved wearing bracers and a seven-pointed star medallion around its neck. I'll give you a light push in the right direction. When Detect Magic is cast, the bracers and the medallion shine with magic.
GM Aerondor |
Valandil tries to identify the items.

Bonus's include guidance from our friendly cleric.
Grigori Yefimovich |
"Snake! Big sna..." Grigori warns everyone... a bit too late. Realizing mid-sentence the changed situation since his bedazement began, the priest, regaining his regal composure, extends his free hand forth. Taking aim, a spherical mist of snow condenses in his palm. But as the snake falls to Valandil's deadly acid, Grigori ceases his concentration and releases the mist harmlessly...
Lol, I was about to post an attack with my icicle ability. Would have hit with a 19 vs touch AC.
Pitbull |
Pitbull comes around from her daze, and in a fit of bad temper smacks the snake one more time with her sword.
She mumbles incoherently under her breath, though its clear it was probably not a kind remark.
Grigori Yefimovich |
The priest then rushes over to Garox. He examines his wounds, and asks aloud as he does so, "Who else is in need of healing? Gather around me..." After examining Garox, Grigori grasps his silver holy symbol and (satisfied neither snake is within the range of his healing) prays to his goddess for the health of his comrades.
Identify and possibly treat Garox's malady:

Garox Fang |
After an immense long time, Garox finally moves again.
He takes a deep breath and exclaims.
"Damn that was long. Man my muscles are tensed up. Thanks for healing Grigori, but I probably need some more attention. I don't think we got a wand of healing do we?
By the way Grigori can you see what the medallion is?"
Valandil Anwamanë |
Valandil look around the group.
"Anyone mind if I wear these in the meantime? You all look to be armoured up already." he asks, slipping on the bracers.
"I'm not sure about the rest of you, but much of my powers were drained by that fight."
Nesterok |
In case of need, I have a wand of cure light wounds and some healing spells of my own.
Said Nesterok who casted a healing spell on Garox
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
I have used half of my powers so I'm for continuing our exploration
Garox Fang |
"Ugh thanks for the healing lads. I'm good to go." Garox says as he stretches his limbs and neck.

Valandil Anwamanë |
"Then let us press onwards. I still have a trick or two up my sleeves, although against the types of foes we have been facing, I'm not sure how useful they will be."
GM Crash |
The party opens the door to leave the Great Pit, taking the medallion with them. You can give identifying it another try the next day. They see a hallway that widens into a room that continues into a hallway leading to the right. This room is a charnel house of blood, bones, and scraps of rotten flesh. Strange runes have been sloppily drawn on the walls using some dark brown pigment. A moss-covered stone monolith stands in the center of the room, wreathed in gossamer wisps of gray mist that seem to congeal around the crumbling stone.
But before they can look around the room and explore it, they also notice two foul undead creatures that are hairless, malformed corpses with gray-green, pustule-covered skin and oversized jaws that make them seem more beast-like than humanoid fighting over each other over some of the bones on the floor. They stop as soon as you see them. Sniffing the air they turn to you and growl.

Zanaver, Garox, Undead, Nesterok, Valandil, Pitbull, Grigori
Zanaver and Garox is up. :)
Garox Fang |
Garox takes out his dagger and attacks any zombie that comes near him. He is not so adapt at fighting undead as the others so he will let someone with a big weapon go first.
Grigori Yefimovich |
To Garox's request, Fr. Yefimovich mutters a short prayer as he waves his free hand over the medallion. He then shrugs, "Well I can see it is magical. But what kind of magic, I know not."
Cast detect magic. No Spellcraft training yet, though... 2nd level!
...
What does Grigori know about these undead creatures?
Knowledge(religion): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Will wait before posting my actions. A heads up though, I'll probably channel to harm them.
GM Crash |
Fr. Yefimovich identifies these undead creatures as festrogs. Their defensive ability is their diseased pustules. The diseased pustules spray the attacking creature with diseased pus requires a DC 12 Fort save to sicken them when using a slashing or piercing natural weapon, light weapon, or one-handed weapon.
Garox Fang |
So a light mace should be fine? Do these things have the same dr as zombies or none at all?
Zanaver Silverkin |
Zanaver tests his kama's weight before making a precise strike at the nearest zombie

"Uy friends," Grigori warns his comrades, "these most foul and cruel mockeries of life are festrogs! They are the living dead..."
He goes on to reveal the key information he knows about them while grasping his holy spiral of Pharasma, "Oh Lady of Graves, I deliver these wretched souls, bound by unnatural undeath, unto thee. By your mercy, may they pass to the Bonesland, where they belong..."
Grigori channels positive energy to harm all undead (DC 12 half damage):

Round 2
Seeking to conserve his divine powers of intervention, Grigori whips out a mace-shaped wooden club for some pummeling action as well. Stepping in close behind Pitbull, he politely asks her, "My dear, if you could step into the room a bit more, I could bring on more pain."
To Val, over his shoulder as he steps in, "I hear there is a profitable market for acid in some parts of Kaer Maga. Although," he corrects himself with a slight smirk, "I believe that is a different kind of acid than what you mean..."
Actions: Draw weapon [move], move 20 ft. [move]
Pitbull |
Sorry! If still allowable, Pitbull would be happy to shift and make room for her friend...
GM Crash |
@Pitbull: Seeing as how you go before Grigori, you can 5 ft step into the room still and still allow him to move 25 ft instead of 20 so he can fight as well.
Round 2 (partial)
Zanaver attacked one of the festrogs, missing with his fist but connecting with his kama, spraying himself with pus. Fort save please Zanaver. If you fail the first one, I need another one. DC 12for both.

Garox steps up to it and crushes its skull.
Combat over!
As you look around the room you get closer to the monolith, you start to hear sibilant whispers, seemingly from out of the air, though no words can be understood. The mist feels cold and clammy, but has no other effect. The entire stone radiates strong conjuration magic.
Pitbull |
"HA!" Pitbull looks rather smug, then looks about to see what else is in here.
Valandil Anwamanë |
Valandil looks closely at the runes
know(arcana): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21

Garox Fang |
"Damn those zombies were ripe!" Garox says as he starts to search through the room.
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 24
GM Crash |
It seems that if someone touches the monolith, they will be transported far away underground. The book says it goes to the Dark Forest, a vast and impossible cavern far beneath Kaer Maga. However, it doesn't explain what will happen if you go there. It just says "see pages 56–57 of City of Strangers" and "How this portal functions is left to the GM to devise." So, since I don't have the City of Strangers book...
However, as Valandil was trying to figure out the spell his fingers brushed the monolith. He hears “The Dark Rider is coming.” in his head. But nothing happens. It seems the portal is not active at the moment.
Grigori Yefimovich |
Grigori touches the monolith...just kidding! ;)
Fr. Yefimovich circumnavigates the monolith at a relaxed pace, being sure to keep a few feet of distance from it at all times. Observing the ancient runes, he searches his memory for any pertinent religious knowledge about gluttony, necromancy, and why these runes might be written in blood.
As the priest does so, he talks aloud to his comrades. "These runes, they must be recent," observes Grigori. "Blood does not remain intact for this long. Unless the protective magic of this place keeps it so?"
He carries on to the next room with his companions, when they are ready.
Any religious knowledge of the runes?
