One day while walking through Kaer Maga, a melancholic half-elf bard in black and white makeup, playing a set of congos, walks up to Grigori. "Greetings. I can see that you follow Pharasma as well. I just came from the church up there and sent me to find a party of pathfinders to help them. You look competent. Why don't you gather with more pathfinders at the Godsmouth Cathedral to help them?"
And with that he disappears into the crowd, probably off looking for more adventurers to help the temple.
Each of you get approached by this 'effective' NPC, all being sent toward the church. Once you are ready, make your introductions and then the adventure will get underway.

The percussionist receives in return a scrutinizing stare whilst also a cautious yet cordial hand wave in greeting.

"Father Grigori Yefimovich, at your service. But it seems you already know who I am, dear sir."

His thick, Ustalavic-accented question is intoned more as a statement of apparent fact, rather than a genuine query.

As the half-elven messenger takes his leave of the grim priest, he raises a hand to scratch his bearded chin in thought.

Hmmm. I was headed in that direction anyway. Strange... I am needed by Her cathedral... on the very day I arrive in this city? Perhaps this is providence...

The serious priest in crimson and black looks off in the distance towards the famed cathedral. Turning about, he proceeds to walk down the road towards what Fate has in store for him...

Valandil, a tall elf with the unfortunate habit of looking down his nose, is studying in the Pathfinder lodge in Kaer Maga.

In Kaer Maga he is somewhat unusual, having eshewed the general study of necromancy. However he is doing a bit of research on the religion of Pharasma, and is more than willing to help our the priests if they will just answer some questions...

"I have been meaning to visit the Cathedral for some days. It seems today is my day."

As a newcomer in town, Nesterok heard rumors about the beauty and History of the Godsmouth Cathedral here, in Kaer Maga. His curiosity as well as the rumors about other Pathfinder gathering in, convince him to go there.

Fate, Fate is always my light in the Darkness. Or is it luck ? Well we will find it in Pharasma blessing I suppose...

Garox, a rogueish character with a green mohawk was chatting to a bar wench when the half elf came by.

"Listen, I'm a little busy over here. How about tomorrow?"

When Garox turned around the wench went to sit on another mans lap, laughing at his jokes.

"Blast man, I had my eye on her. Fine I'll come with. An hours worth of chatting her up just went to the drain thanks to you." Garox grumbles. He gathers his bag and heads over to the church.

Concept Pic

The female half orc laughs as Garox lucks out with the barmaid. The laugh has a slightly harsh undertone though, as if not entirely good natured. She slams down her mug of ale and likewise readies to make way to the church. Her blackened chain mail shirt and the rest of her equipment looks to be in good repair and well maintained - though of an unpleasant and orcish design of pure utilitarianism - the only dash of colour being a subdued Chelish emblem in blood red on the shoulder of her jerkin.

She throws a couple of coppers on the table for the barmaid and grunts a farewell, then follows the rest of the gaggle to the church.


A middle aged priest walks up to the group that has gathered in the cathedral. "Good, you're all here. I am Valanthe Nerissia. Right this way." She leads the party up to a side room.
Once everyone is inside and the door is closed, she says "Thank you all for coming. I will try to keep this brief so you can get right to work. There are dead bodies dissappearing from the ossuary below us and we need you all to find out why. There are also creatures down there that would be dangerous for the less equipped and we will pay you extra if you all clear it out down there. Now any questions before you go down?"

"Have you or any of the church staff ever catch a glimpse of one of these creatures? Could you describe it?"
With his arms crossed,Zanaver fixates his attention on the priest ready to absorb every word of her response


"No glimpses. Just missing clerics every now and then when they were supposed to have gone down to the ossuary." she responds to Zanaver.

"It must be something quite sinister to.. I assume kill clergymen."
Zanaver's face is contorted in a barely disguised disgust. He studies the room and looks back to the priest
"Where is the entrance to ossuary?"


"On the cliff, through the mouth of the Unnamed King."
I'll give a little geography knowledge for free. The city of Kaer Maga sits in the heart of Varisia, a vast stone hexagon of unknown origin perched high atop the cliffs of the Storval Rise. This cyclopean structure predates even the Empire of Thassilon, which ruled these lands 10,000 years ago, and today it is a city of wonders, intrigue, and mysteries.
Carved on the cliff face below the city are numerous representations of gigantic bodies and faces, though who these titanic carvings actually represent is a matter of some conjecture—the vanished runelords of ancient Thassilon, forgotten kings, dead gods, or someone else. Some of these massive sculptures lead into the Undercity, a dizzying network of caverns, tunnels, and chambers, both natural and man-made, that riddle the cliffs beneath Kaer Maga.

She turns to Valandil. "There is only the one."

The stern priest stops to gaze in awe and admiration of the gothic beauty of the Pharasmin cathedral on his approach. For he's long desired to go on a pilgrimage to this holy place of his order.

Entering the cathedral, the priest takes a formal bow while tracing a spiral in the air over his heart. Gazing around at the church's interior, he spots the group gathered together. Approaching, he takes a slight, polite bow in introduction to his fellow Pathfinders.

But on seeing the lovely priestess arrive, she finds the back of her hand gently taken up to the intense priest's lips before she has a chance to utter her first word. Never breaking eye contact with her, "Father Grigori Yefimovich, kindred servant of the Lady of Graves, at your service." A musky scent wafts into the nostrils of all nearby.

The priest continues to maintain eye contact with Valanthe in the side room as she speaks of the troubles befalling the Godsmouth Ossuary. Stroking his beard in somber contemplation of everyone's words, he then chimes in to reassure the priestess of his resolve.

"For what nefarious purpose the bodies and clerics have been acquired, I know not with certainty. The circumstances you speak of, however, they do seem to suggest the most unholy crime of necromancy." Grigori seems to spit the last word out with bitter contempt.

Stepping a bit closer to the priestess, "I personally will see to it that we, together, solve this mystery and put an end to these crimes, Mother Nerissa. You have my word."

He then steps back a bit once more, and asks the priestess, "Now then, if something is stealing bodies and clergy alike, perhaps a someone is responsible? May I ask, have you heard reports or rumors lately of anything concerning a particular person or persons of interest? Have any enemies of the church made a threat, for instance? Or have any other persons been acting odd just around the time the body snatching began?"


Upon seeing Grigori, Valanthe croons "It is good to see a fellow servant of the Lady of Graves."
In the side room, Valanthe gasps "You think that someone might be behind these disappearances? We have no inkling of anyone with any malicious feelings to our glorious cathedral." She looks out a window to see the night sky.
"Now, if that is all your questions, I suggest you all get a good night's rest before going down into the ossuary tomorrow."
Keep asking questions if you have them, if not just say when you are ready and we will begin the next day.

"I don't suppose there are any fair maidens or female priests within we could save?" Garox asks. He looks a little bored. He's used to more heroic missions.

The elven scholar looks confused.

"You say there is just the one entrance - namely that which we are to use. And presumably that entrance is warded somehow?"

He pauses for a moment for confirmation.

"How then do you think the bodies are being removed? Obviously there is teleportation magic ... but entering the Ossuary is unlikely to prove helpful there. Or do you expect us to lie in wait to see what turns up?"

He thinks for a moment.
"How big is the Ossuary? Do you have a map of it we can study?"

"What sort of monsters are roaming about down there? And I don't promise we wont disturb a few things down there, if we have to make a mess, we will. Not looking to stop and honour the dead if I am busy saving the living."

Zanaver leans against the far wall, and thinks deeply over the possibilities. However Necromancey was a crime against the balance of all life. As he heads to leave to prepare and rest, the Elf's question stops him in his tracks
"Yes, do you have a map to offer us?"


Answering the questions in turn "There should be no one down where you all are going. Of course the entrance that we will use is warded, but you will be given a way through there when the time comes. When I said that there is only one entrance, I meant that there is only one that we know about. There may be undead down there, but that goes without saying with the bodies missing. We have no maps available for that level of the ossuary."

"Agreed, I will join Garox in the Jumping Frog in his quest for whores and ale."Zanaver grins broadly at Garox


The next day, after everyone meets Valanthe at the cathedral, she leads you all down narrow, twisting cliffside path to the Godsmouth Ossuary. Once you pass through the mouth of the Unnamed King, you are in the ossuary proper, where robed and hooded Pharasmin priests silently tend to the deceased. Valanthe continues to lead all of you through luxuriously appointed catacombs packed with bodies and down several stairways before coming to an area that obviously sees little use-most of the burial niches are empty and dusty, the air is musty and close, and silence reigns supreme.
In this disused portion of the crypts, Valanthe stops before a locked door. "This is the only known entrance to the sealed lower portions of the ossuary, and once you enter, the door will be locked behind you. Because of this, you will be unable to leave the ossuary to rest and resupply until your tasks are done. To help you accomplish your task, I shall gives each of you a potion of cure light wounds and a vial of holy water. You may divide these up however you wish, but you should use these supplies wisely, as you will be unable to replace them." She hands each of them the potion and vial.
Then she holds up a hollow mithral tube about 1 foot long. "This is a chime of opening. The person to use this can open the Pharasmin seals down below. But be warned." she holds up a finger. "There are only 5 uses left on this, and one must be left to get back here because none of our clerics will open the door for you, just in case you have been turned into a mindless undead or being impersonated. If you lose the chime or use it up, you will have to find your own way back." With that, she pulls out a large iron key, unlocks the door and opens it, revealing darkness.
Now is when you need to start using light sources because the whole dungeon will be dark, unless otherwise mentioned. As soon as you go through the door, Valanthe will lock it, so last chance to ask her questions. You should also figure out the order that you will walk in.

Valandil will purchase Crafters fortune, and Ant Haul, then scribe them into his spellbook. (Each 15gp for access, ink, materials etc)

While Zanaver was away, he had gathered bundles of sticks, and bound them with linen cloth. Forming crude but not any less effective as a torch.

"Farewell Priestess, I hope we meet again"

Zanaver says to the priest as well as thanks her for the items and he uses the flint and steel from his inventory to set the torch ablaze.

"I am ready when you are my fellow adventurers. Let us make haste to destroy the filth that stains this magnificent cathedral"

Zanaver draws his kama and wields it in his main hand, while holding the torch in the other
For marching order, I think just single file should suffice. With soft spellcasters in the back and melee in front

Previous night backtrack...

On bidding the gathering farewell until the next morning, Father Yefimovich speaks to the priestess while looking up and around at the magnificent cathedral in slight awe, "I have long sought to go on a pilgrimage to the great Godsmouth Cathedral." Turning back to her, a slight smile comes over his face as he makes a smooth pass on the priestess, "After this business is settled, it would be my great pleasure if you would honor me with a... personal tour?"

Another kiss on the back of her hand, "I bid you a good evening, fair priestess."

Back to the present...

As the party walks the catacombs, Grigori takes notice of the precise rituals he sees his kindred clerics performing. He's trying to discern if they are doing things as he expects, or if anything seems... awry?

In fact, the Pharasmin cleric asks the priestess before they reach the door, "Ahem, Mother Nerissa... I was hoping to examine a few of the emptied niches, where bodies were stolen? Perhaps clues can be found to better discern what we are up against."

Notice anything odd or off about either the rituals or the niches themselves?
Profession(mortician): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20 ... or 18 total result if our GM prefers a Knowledge(religion) check


"You will not find anything odd with the niches, since after the bodies went missing the niches were swept clean. But go right ahead." Valanthe replies kindly.
Nothing appears odd or off with the rituals.

Zanaver holds the torch ahead of him. Its light encompassing a 20 ft radius around the party. He grips his kama tightly, ready to respond to any threat.

Valandil summons a small globe of light and sends it moving down the passage ahead of the group. Another globe of light appears on the end of his dagger.

Casts dancing light to move ahead, and light. I can keep them both up indefinitely - at least until I need a rest. That is two light sources that don't tie up a weapon hand or shield arm.

To the priestess Garox asks "Are there any traps downstairs you can tell me about? We wouldn't want to meet our demise before figuring out what happened."

Once they are inside Garox states
"Well with all this light stealth is out of the order. I will go second in tight tunnels but if we can walk side by side I will go first in case we encounter any traps."

can we agree that Garox looks for traps constantly, taking 20s on doors for a 29 perception total. For walking just roll since he wont be taking 10 or 20 then


"There may be traps down there, but I don't know. It wouldn't hurt to keep a lookout for them though." Valanthe replies to Garox.

Nesterok was - as yesterday - neet and well dressed. He thank the priestess and took the holy water and potion and put them in his bandolier.

He said to his comrades.

Thanks to my blood, I also see in the dark. I could be on front or in the rear as you wish.
In case of need I have several torch that could be of use.

Zanaver sighs slightly at Gorax's outburst, and then realizing the torch's obsoleteness, he stows it at his belt. Instead substituting it have a couple shruikens
Zanaver moves behind Pitbull, and looks around for traps. He twirls his kama slightly and skillfully, watching the orb of light cast by Valandil make its way down the hall of the dungeon.


Does Pitbull, Garox, Valandil, Zanaver, Grigori, and Nesterok sound good for order since Garox actually has Disable Device?


With enough light and darkvision everyone can see 10 ft high ceilings, with walls and floor made of smooth, hewn stone. There are cobwebs hanging from the ceiling and thick dust on the floor. About 20 ft past the door is a spiral stairway going down.
