Las Lajas |
Las already moved this round, unless there's a reason Las gets two moves? Also, Joesph don't you want to move on the far side of Brallenera that's farthest from the devil?
GM Chyro |
With Joseph and Las Lajas healing Brallenera and Ting Tang, defensive positions are taken, and a tactical retreat is made.
----------------------
Host devil, round 6
"Hisss....run, intruders. Go cry at home..hehehehe..."
The devil moves back up a bit, waiting for something.....neither side hearing the other, and only seperated by the fog.
-----------------------
Ting Tang
Joseph
Brallenera & Las Lajas
Las Lajas |
Las, breathes and audible sigh of relief as it seems the creature is somehow duty bound to guard the bridge.
"Follow me."
After the group gets out of earshot of the devil,
"Let's get outside of the temple and return to the place where we encountered the elementals. That way we'll be safe from any illusions or tricks and the apparent heat"
Once outside, Las will use his wand of infernal healing and attempt two charges on Brallenera and two on Ting, and one on Joesph
UMD (w/wayfinder): 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 11 + (2) = 19 Forgot that I could use free Inspiration on these checks
UMD (w/wayfinder): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
UMD (w/wayfinder): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
UMD (w/wayfinder): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
UMD (w/wayfinder): 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (7) + 11 + (2) = 20
UMD (w/wayfinder): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 This will be heal on Joesph, if he accepts
Okay, that's 20 points of healing back to both Ting and Brany, and 10 for Joseph. During the two minutes of down time, I'll start searching the area of the elementals, as it looks like we may not have searched it when we first came in.
"While we are waiting to heal, let's start searching again, in case we missed something. Considering that his valley was a place of ambush, there might be stuff covered by the sand or up in the some hollow in the rocks." It looks like Ting did a Take 20 for Perception on all the other rooms in the temple, so not sure we're going to find anything else inside.
Perception(T20): 20 + 9 = 29
Las will ask Joesph to do a detect magic on the area and see if anything shows up.
GM Chyro |
Nothing is seen in the valley of the elementals' attack.
Las Lajas |
Does that include the Detect Magic by Joseph? So there's no evidence that others have died in this valley from the elementals? Are there any other structures? Coffins, caves, urns, in the area?
EDIT: Looking for anything to search. Previous description talked about Bull headed hoodoos...we'll check those along with the outside of the brass doors. Taking 10 with Wayfinder equals 20, but I imagine the rest of the party will be searching as well.
Talking to the group, "I'm hoping there might be some device or means to get past the devil. Maybe a pass phrase, a special locket or maybe even a secret passage."
GM Chyro |
The hoodoos give no ping on traps, mechanical or magical.
They seem to be ornamental, designed as a sign to either scare off or as sign of arriving at the right (to Moloch's followers) place.
Also no other corpses are present.
Las Lajas |
Las ask Joseph to use detect magic in front of the temple.
Las search anything that looks searchable, even walking around the outside of temple for signs of trap doors or buried treasure.
Las Lajas |
Is it safe to assume Joseph will also use either his or Ting's CLWs wand to heal up the remaining hit points for Brallenera and himself?
Las Lajas |
I used Las' wand of Infernal Healing. Wow...10 charges on this scenario alone.
@GM considering Las beat the top K. Planes check of of 26 by 6 with a 32, does a Host Devil have all the traits of the Devil subclass? Also, is there anything else to know about weaknesses, special attacks, or defenses, given the extra +5 on the K. check.
GM Chyro |
It has the same traits.
It can use telepathy to communicate with other host devils, should need be.
Las Lajas |
"First, let's get you guys healed up the rest of the way." Hoping Joesph will top off the wounded with one of the CLW wands.
"Second, let's do a final search of the rooms for anything that might help." Take 20 and use of Detect Magic in each room.
"Next, let's visit Gali and take his clothes.
I'll finish the battle plan in the Discussion thread...
GM Chyro |
The magical detect & perception result is
No magic going on, no leftover traps either.
Were you expecting a cloaked band of uruk-hai?
Las Lajas |
Okay, then let's get this going. First, let's stop by the weapons room and Ting and Bra and look for reach weapons. Then let's check on Gali, is he still dead in his room?
Las Lajas |
?
Also, what reach weapons are in the weapons room?
GM Chyro |
Means that's for you to find out. ;)
As to the weapons, there are in pairs: halberds, spears and longswords.
While not specified as broken, they would be old.
Las Lajas |
Well if they are not broken, then I should assume the work as normal, correct? As far as Gali, is he still breathing?
Las Lajas |
Las takes away any spell components, binds the man's hands and covers his mouth.
"Looks like our friend must have stabilized. This might work out to our advantage. Judging by the Mage Hand we found on him, I'm guessing he was behind all the moving tapestries, especially considering things have been silent. We should pry him for information. Maybe he can command the devil and tell us what is behind the doors. Joseph, do you have that Charm Person spell handy? "
Reviewing charm person spell, Is there any reason why Joseph can't cast it on Gali while Gali is unconscious and have it take effect?
GM Chyro |
Could you guys position yourselves where you'd be on the new initiative?
Thanks.
-------------
Don't know, i guess you could try, and the guy gets a will save.
Btw, who will take what weapon from the armory?
Edit:
Assuming Joseph casts it..
Will DC 13: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Too bad. Guess you won't find out until he wakes up.
Ting Tang |
The room is lit by 2 torches, and the walls of this room are lined with weapons: crossed halberds, spears, and longswords, all decorated with flame motifs...
under spoiler you said "These items are recently made, by the looks of it." was that an illusion or are the new? It really doesn't help us since they are not reach weapons, but we can throw the spears if we decide to attack it while it's in the air.
GM Chyro |
It must've slipped my mind.
The battle between the crusaders and the followers of Moloch has been a thing in the past, and the structure itself isn't what it used to be.
GM Chyro |
Guys, proceed with what plan you see best fit.
It's been since tuesday, that Joseph had posted.
---------------------------
I guess Ting is going to tie him up.
Healing: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
[That is subject to change, as Las Lajas suggested smelling salt]
Gali wakes up, on 2 hp.
"What.., (wrestles vs his bonds), ughn....damnit.
Joseph looks at the beaten sorcerer.
A feminine voice inside his head is him urging to 'do something to make him talk', but Joseph is not responding to the words....at least not yet.
"Well sorcerer, you're finished, tied up....and at our mercy."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
The sorcerer frowns and gazes defiantly into Joseph's eyes.
Las Lajas |
Before using his smelling salts, Las makes sure the group drags Gali outside so that the sorcerer can't warn the devil.
Once outside...
Las suspects Joseph's approach is not going to work and he pulls the bard out of earshot of Gali. There, Las suggests that Las attempt a diplomatic gesture Yup...good cop bad cop. And asks Joseph to inspire Las' competence.
Las then invokes his wayfinder for Guidance as he tries to reason with the man.
If Gali is charismatic...obvious + modifier, then Las will roll. If Gali is average looks or below average looks, then Las will Take 10 on Diplomacy and use an inspiration in either case.
Diplomacy (If Gali is charismatic - include Inspire Competence and Guidance): 1d20 + 11 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 11 + (1) = 25
If not charismatic Take 10+11 + whatever the d6 roll was above
Las Lajas |
Las makes sure not everyone is in front of Gali at the same time and at least one person is always more than 30ft away. Either Ting or Brallenera will read any action to jostle/interrupt Gali if he tries to cast....and we take away his spell pouch if he has one.
Dialogue to go with roll
"You'll have to excuse my friend's abrasive manner, he's upset you blasted our friends with fire and he had to use up lots of charges on his wand to heal everyone. We're sorry to have left you in such a state, but we aren't here to kill you, at least I hope not. I'd like to persuade my friends here to let you go, but you'll have to answer a few questions for us first."
If Diplomacy is not working, I'll nod to the others to offer some Aid Another on Diplo.
GM Chyro |
"Huh, you're not?
But everybody who's not of our order, has come here to destroy everything here. How am i not resist those who come to destroy my place of prayers?"
1d2 ⇒ 1
On the roof of the building, you see the crouching figure of the devil, watching from afar.
If noticed, it withdraws immediately.
Las Lajas |
I'll assume Joseph inspires just long enough for myself and the others to make the Diplomacy and Aid checks
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Sense Motive on Gali (to see if the Diplomacy is working): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Las Lajas |
"And why would people be coming to destroy this place?
Las nods his head in the direction of the fleeing devil.
"Why is that thing in the temple?"
Las will be Taking 10 on Perception vs Gali to make sure the sorcerer? is not trying to wriggle free. Also, is this guy clearly charismatic?
GM Chyro |
1d20 + 16 ⇒ (17) + 16 = 33
Sorry mate, i'm dealt a boss roll. :)
As far as you can tell, Gali is being sincere and cooperative, and your diplomatic ways have gotten through to him.
He's not wriggling his bonds, and if you mean charasmatic (looks or way of speech), he's not exactly Aragorn....on both accounts.
"Because the crusaders have come here in the past, and other pilgrims come in certain attire, and not snoop around."
When Las asks about the devil, he shrugs.
"It is the bridge keeper."
Las Lajas |
I am meant in terms of Charisma score. Trying to determine how attractive he is relative to other humans.
Las raises a quisical eye,
"Crusaders? How long has it been since there were crusaders here? There's no sign of any battles and the weapons in the temple are almost ancient"
Continuing on,
"What is beyond the bridge? Is it possible to admit visitors? We are simply trying to learn about this temple."
K. Religion on Moloch and follower's alignment(T10): 10 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 7 + (4) = 21
Have meeting for about two hours....be back then.
GM Chyro |
Charisma is not only looks. ;)
There was once this man with a black small mustache....
Moloch is a demon lord, LE aligned.
He is disciplined, severe, and merciless.
His followers vary, and can come from all layers of society, and for various reasons.
A peasant could sacrifice an offering to stop a flood.
Soldiers could pray for fortune on the battlefield.
Leaders could bring tribute to request hindrance towards their enemies.
"That is an example, and it has been very long. I'm sure you've seen the bones outside.
The bridge keeper allows only pilgrims and known residents. Any other are killed."
Las Lajas |
"Bones? We did not see any bones. Can you point them out?"
"How does the devil know who the pilgrims are? Can you convince him to let us pass?"
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
Joseph just looks at the devil and then back to the group.
"So...do we leave him here or...or..." he pauses for a moment before suddenly a voice screams from his mouth "KILL HIM!" and he quickly covers his mouth, struggling for a moment before clearing his throat "Well...how do we deal with it? We can't trust it."
GM Chyro |
"You're blind if you didn't."
When asked if he could negotiate passage;
"You're not even pilgrims, do you even know what you're asking?
You're asking me to allow non followers into our sacred halls.
......
I could try, but unless you all can give some plausible proof to the bridge keeper, showing yourself before him only results in either injury or death. Besides, what's in this for me, if i would get you in there?"
Ting Tang |
After tying the sorcerer ting stands nearby, perched on one leg, casually lifting the other off of the floor. Sword in one hand, Chakram in the other; turning his head in seemingly impossible angles watching for anything out of the ordinary, as Joseph and Las learn about the temple.
perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
GM Chyro |
...and you notice the perception spoiler from earlier. ;)
Las Lajas |
Ah yes, I missed that. Did we search these remains thoroughly already? If not, we do now.
Las Lajas |
Las continues, truly interested,
"Sacred halls? What lies behind the door that the devil guards?'
"We've heard that there are unique idols to Moloch here? What makes them unique?"
@Ting and Brallenera, would welcome some Aid Another's on Diplomay if your characters are so inclined.
GM Chyro |
"It's our main hall of worship...duh. o_o"
"The more you ask, the more you sound like 'collectors' to me."
Collectors, a fancy word for treasure hunters.
Be they adventurers, tomb robbers or raiders.
Las Lajas |
K. Local: 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 8 + (3) = 24
GM Chyro |
I enjoy playing conversations. :)
Feast of Ravenmoor also gives ample opportunity for it.
Las Lajas |
I'll pause for a day and let others ask questions. Make suggestions. So the ancient bones and remains had nothing useful?
GM Chyro |
No. Someone else must've looted them long ago.
GM Chyro |
Gali's disposition hadn't changed, but it gave Ting Tang some practice in social talks with the enemy.
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
"It's our main hall of worship...duh. o_o"
"The more you ask, the more you sound like 'collectors' to me."
** spoiler omitted **
no knowledge local but I assume Las shares the info with us?
At this moment Joseph, as his usual nervous self starts focusing in a corner, studying nothing but the air and dirt and muttering to himself before his posture suddenly changes and he gives out a long sigh before turning around, his eyes a different colour now as he approches Gali.
There are two distinct voices, one feminine and one masculine as they argue.
"Do you think you can convince him?" -m
"You know me Joseph. If we don't I'm sure we can do something." -f
"I don't think he'll believe you. He already distrusts us, not to mention you screamed to kill him." -m
"My mother and sisters have delt with devils many times. If we offer something to him, it could work..." -f
"But we have nothing to offer. How can you offer him anything?" -m
"I'll think of something." -f
Once he gets close enough, his posture is very different and smirks as he looks down at Gali and speaks in a unearthly feminine tone.
"Now, I do apologise for my outburst earlier but where I come from a very dangerous world for beings such as yourself." he gets down to his level and continues with a smile. "We are not simple thieves or even well-equipped thieves. We are members of the pathfinder society and our tenants are to explore, report and work together. Our focus is to chronicle the greatest mysteries of this world and, to a less extent, protect the inexperienced from falling into a vortex to hell or opening a portal to the abyss in their city. However, our opponents, the Aspis Consortium, are the types who would have no problem with sacking your sacred site with the purpose to not only sell the relics, but create knock-offs to flood the markets." he states as he tries to paint a picture for him "If we found you, they certainly will and there will be no discussion with them. If you help us there may be a chance we can organise something with the society where you help us and we help you by keeping this site sacred and well guarded."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
despite my writing the dice doesn't seem to agree...though Julia does HATE devils so that might be coming through.
