Round 2
Tifer double moves back down the walk way.
--------
Brallenera (climbing out)
Shonne Yup, Tifer shoots an arrow at Tifer.
[Nasty undercommon words!], hitting for 8.
Ala'Ihys & Joseph
--------
Mites
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
'is this creature beyond forgiveness?' "Surrender Mite and leave this place, your death serves us no purpose!" Ala'Ihys draws and fires to more arrows. making sure he doesn't hit Brallenera if her head pops up.
Full attack: deadly shot, rapid shot, MW composite longbow (+2)
attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 2 - 1 = 20 for damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9
attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 - 1 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 2 - 1 = 22 for damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 2 = 10
GM Chyro |
The 1st arrow disables Tifer, the second puts him down.
[More very bad undercommon words]
If anything was still around, you hear nothing of it.
Combat over.
The others are too scared now and flee.
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
'I wonder what it's last words were' "Do any of you speak that language? It didn't sound like a surrender to me." Not trusting the floor near where Brallenera fell, Ala'Ihys carefully goes to the south end of the room and then around the kilns to where the Mite is at, he carefully checks the body to see if the creature is dead, then removing any valuables from it he collects his arrows.
heal: see if it is dead, if not stabilize: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 or not
he will take 20 checking the body for valuables
GM Chyro |
Ala'Ihys has not clue of whether it is alive or dead.
Aside from small short swords and leather and a handful of darts, the only item of probable value is a small key.
GM Chyro |
....still no proper signs to our paladin :)
GM Chyro |
Yes, which door. Things have been quiet ;)
GM Chyro |
The key Ala'Ihys took from Tifer, matches the lock on the door.
Opening, you see an unsettling scene.
A human woman, dressed in leather befitting a tracker or ranger, lies bound by ropy fungal growths that encase her head and send pulsing tendrils along her limbs.
Near her lies a male dwarf who suffers from bizarre, agonizing growths protrude from his limbs. The scars of old floggings cover his torso, slightly obscured by new welts and cuts.
"Nae....the pain.....GnnnAAAH!"
Poor guy needs a DC 24 heal check to temporarily subdue the pain.
Across them is chained, within formerly proper mercantile attire, a man of likely Chelish descent. Scars decorate his scalp and the only sounds he can fabricate are low moans.
Shonne |
"Check on her." Shonne says indicating the woman.
She rushes to the dwarf and, with a rasp of a blade being drawn from a sheath, withdraws a wicked looking medical implement from her pack.
"Here. This should deaden the pain."
She puts the imposing device aside and starts treating the wound with the items that had lain beneath it in the pack.
heal (with kit): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
GM Chyro |
Awesome, i didn't expect someone to roll well enough for the dwarf.
*Huff...huff...*, the dwarf's suffering seems to have mostly subsided, for the time being.
"Who are you people?"
I'm probably winning jackpot guessing for what's next.
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
give the winner a cuppie doll
"I am Ala’Ihys Amatullah al-Rashid, Servant of the Dawnflower, Venerator of Sunlord Thalachos, Rider of the Histaqen, knight of Relios and these are my fellow pathfinders. We are here assisting Torvic to find the way to the Gallery of Wonders. How did you come to be here?"
He quickly looks at the three discreetly casting detect evil as they answered.
GM Chyro |
I don't want a cuppie doll :)
I'll take a fully paid all-inclusive vacation to Japan, thank you very much.
Ala'Ihys gets as much a reading on evil auras as he had on Tifer's vitals....^^ [Yes, that was cheap, sorry but unavoidable].
They don't radiate evil
The woman is, of course, in no condition to talk, still being bound.
Neither is the man with the scars on his head.
The dwarf looks at you with cold sweat on his forehead.
"I am Merisk and the lass is my companion Lyrehawk, the human chained yonder, i dunno his name.
We, along with Torvic, came to this place to explore. By your words, Torvic still lives, yes?"
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
Joseph moves over to the woman and looks carefully at the strange fungi.
"What is this?" comes the oddly affeminite voice "It makes a impressive trap, but will she be fine or does it poison her?" Joseph makes certain not to touch or go too close to the plant, drawing a dagger to be ready to cut when given the order.
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
As Shonne begins to minister to the dwarfs needs, Ala'Ihys kneels beside the girl named Lyrehawk, drawing his scimitar, he begins to cut the ropy fungal growths that encase her head and send pulsing tendrils along her limbs. As he does so he answers the dwarf. "Yes Torvic we rescued him from some mites, and he sent us this way."
As he speaks to the dwarf and frees Lyrehawk Ala'Ihys tries to determine the medical stability of the girl.
heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
GM Chyro |
[Gasp]
Lyrehawk's eyes are blurry...
"Unnn, *cough*...i....i can't see.
If you're with that woman, you're real brave to kill captives..that's what you're here for, aren't you...."
Merisk: "Easy Lyrehawk...they be from the pathfinders, apparently investigating and breaking into this place."
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
grrr, it ate my post!
Ala'Ihys sheaths his scimitar, shaking his head, "We are not here to kill any prisoners." Removing his water-skin he offers Lyrehawk a drink. "As I said we are pathfinders, we rescued Torvic from mites. we were sent to return a stolen pearl to him. Apparently it is some form of a key, we have formed an alliance with Torvic to assist him if he shows us the way to the Gallery of Wonders so we can record information and artifacts for the Pathfinders." Asking the girl, "Who is this woman you speak of and why did she capture you?"
Leaving the water with the lass, Ala'Ihys goes to the chained human and checks him to see if he is stable then checks to see if the mites key will unlock the chains. if the key does work he will unlock the prisoner.
diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
GM Chyro |
The key fits the cuffs too.
Ala'Ihys puts his fingers against the man's neck properly and feels a stable pulse. The man's eyes are a little unfocused, but look average.
Lyrehawk: "...[careful breathing]...i don't know. When speaking with the creatures, she spoke something akin to elven, yet not elven, it sounded old."
Sounds like undercommon, an ancient combination of Elven and even older tongues.
Merisk: "We fell into a trap, tortured, beaten....dumped here.
We didn't get far within this place."
Lord Joseph Wraitheart |
Linguistics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Urgh, only character with the skill and I botch it :p
Joseph shakes his head.
"I recognise it but can't recall..." in that same effeminate voice.
Brallenera Thalkham |
Brallenera speaks to the now ex-prisoners
Awww, you stay there, while we explore the place, probably starting with this double door there, in the west. We'll be back soon, after we've killed everyone else. We will avenge your wounds and blood. Was there only one people to torture you, or many? I know it's bad memories for you...
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
Ala'Ihys nods his head, "Yes we shall return, wait here for us and we will help you to the surface and share our information with you." turning to Brallenera, Shonne and Joseph he asks, as he prepares his bow, "As we approach the western door shall someone check it for traps or are we just barging in?"
Shonne |
perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
"I don't see anything."
GM Chyro |
Lyrehawk:
"Some pale ugly creature tortured them.
I don't know what they were."
The western door doesn't seem trapped, to Shonne.
Neither will it if anyone rolls for it.
Shonne |
*Sigh* Shonne tries the handle.
GM Chyro |
*Kreeeeek*......it opened.
Will update in some hours, as i don't have the pdf on me.
Shonne |
was it locked?
"No."
GM Chyro |
Beyond a curtain of sticky yellow filaments, the corridor opens to reveal a bizarre chamber. Glowing fungi bathe the chamber in dim blue light, revealing dozens of incomprehensible devices and texts heaped atop tables and shelves.
Half torture chamber, half alchemical laboratory, one table holds the dissected remains of a mountain goat, surrounded by blood-spattered parchments covered in cryptic notes and drawings.
Strange wires project from the goat’s remains, connected to odd-looking metallic boxes.
Amidst it, you (Shonne and Joseph, due to good stealth rolls) see a creature.
It holds an eyeball in one hand, observing it, and fiddling a pebble with the other.
The lighting is dim, 20% miss to humans.

While Shonne and Joseph are quite stealthy, it's Ala'Ihys & Brallenera whose footsteps make too much noise.
"Achtung, wir haben Eindringlinge!"
"Attention, we have intruders!"
Torture labs, round 1
Derro torturers
Both cast darkness on the eyeballs, then chuck them somewhere towards you. The area is suddenly shrouded in darkness.
Well, utter darkness, no vision and 50% miss chance for all. (Save for the dwarfess).

'Was that and eye flying through the air? Darkness, fitting for those without the light of the Dawnflower' As Ala'Ihys see's the projectiles flying through the air he realizes they are under attack, as the darkness envelopes him he carefully moves into the room and fires an arrow the direction that the flying eye came from.

Brallenera Thalkham |
Awww, you're right. One orc and two filthy derros? That's not your fight, that's mine. These two are the shame of my ancestors.
Brallenera readies her big axe, and she gets angrier by the moment.
GM Chyro |
Blue wasn't yet in los, but shooting at green yields the same result. No biggie.

Brallenera Thalkham |
As her blue dwarf eyes clearly see into this darkness, Brallenera moves into the room and joyfully attacks the orc, fueled by her hate
RAGE! STR 20 CON 21 HP+6 AC 15/9/14
Axe to the face with Hatred, RAGE!: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 24
Dmg, axe to grind trait, RAGE!: 1d10 + 3 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 1 + 2 = 7
The blow hits but doesn't do as much damage as usual
She spits toward the derros
Aww, that was my warming shot, so to speak. I keep most of my anger for you two, traitors of my race! And fighting alongside orcs.. That's disguting, a slap to the face of Angradd!
GM Chyro |
Just something here that seems....odd.
Green was noticed by Shonne and Joseph, not yet seen by Brallenera and Ala'Ihys. But she'd see green when she enters the hallway.
There was no sign of blue or the orc being present (wall). Yet, Brallenera rushes to the orc as if she's known all along he was there. Moving into the hallway, she'd be seeing green first.
Some foresight going on?
Shonne |
I've got Google maps running with the street-view up.
GM Chyro |
Erm..last time i checked they don't have 'Scent' :D. Unless a boon gives them that.
Good memories...the party went good with sneaking, until the guard dog notices them ^^
It's just kinda illogical? In another game, had i known a huge spider hid behind a door, i'd not have kicked it in and got my leg bit.
Ala’Ihys the Archer |
maybe she heard it doing 'something in the dark..'. I wasn't sure about Ala'Ihys stepping out and firing at the "potential attacker" that threw the eye, figured if he over stepped his bounds you would reel him back in. Now Brallenera, I don't know if there is any reeling that girl back in our not, that's between you and her. ;)
GM Chyro |
Your case was more logical. [Adventurer protocol: Something weird comes your way, you respond with force]
Going by her behaviour so far, she's been going after anything hostile she's 'seen' so far. Had the wall not been there, it'd be sure thing, but now i've got to call illogical.
Excusez moi, mademoiselle, but i've got to place you in front of green's nose.
Joseph's turn
Shonne |
Erm..last time i checked they don't have 'Scent' :D.
Oh they have a scent. Trust me I have a Perception of +7.
Shonne |
From where I started the encounter unless they were hiding or had moved there after the initial bit of darkness I would have been able to see the orc and the blue guy (with that whole point from one the square you are standing in to the edge of the place you want to look at thing) and would not have been able to see the green guy (unless he had moved as well) because of the wall. While I am not the biggest fan of orcs this one hasn't thrown an eye at me.... Which gets me to the next problem how did I even see the eye of darkness, it's like headlights on a car that goes light speed. But that's okay I still have my e e cummings illithid-phone 6+ with--and I have to correct myself here--Dungeon-view mapping and GPS. How did they get their little camera vans down all the stairs I wonder?
GM Chyro |
Right..i knew something went wrong with darkness.
Well you would have seen the eye prior to darkness being cast.
GM Chyro |
Joseph's occupied it seems.
Joseph speaks some encouraging words, about how darkness not always bad, but can be fun too. How he can be so sure, is best left unasked?

Ala’Ihys the Archer |
I assume Ala'Ihys is flat footed due to the darkness? Never thought about it like that.
Staring into the darkness, Ala'Ihys flinches as he is struck by a bolt flying out of the dark. Turning the direction he believed the bolt came from he quickly fired two arrows. After firing the arrows into the darkness, Ala'Ihys looks around to see if he can move out of the darkness. "Should we move out of the darkness where we can defend ourselves?"
