Kalas feels the very earth fighting against the cobra's venom. He strikes back, dealing a solid blow but not killing the viper. Ooo! Shillelagh! Tanbaru is quite impressed.

Tomren uses this opportunity to blind the Cobra and the man in Red.
Cobra's Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Red's Will: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 8 + 2 = 20

Blinded, the Cobra tries to bite Kalas, hoping he hasn't moved. He dodges the cobra deftly.
Cobra vs Kalas: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
Concealment, under 51 is a miss: 1d100 ⇒ 92

The man in Red robes snakes his way through the room to get a clear shot at Tomren.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Scorching: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 4, 2) = 15
The ray hits Tomren, leaving severe burns along his midsection.

The man in the Black robes tries to stun Doubtful.
Black vs Doubtful: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
If that hit, Fort Save DC 15 to avoid being stunned for 1 round

He then retreats and turns around the corner, there to partner up with his red-robed friend.

The woman with the blue sash knows she is cornered at this point, so she defends herself with a flurry of kicks.
Blue vs Rogar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

Blue vs Rogar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
I think you have Mage Armor on, so this misses?

Blue vs Rogar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Cobra's Will Save vs DC 19: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
The cobra tries to regain its vision...but Tomren's glitterdust particles hold fast!

Just to be clear, with Spring Attack, he has to move at least 10' before he can attack... so attack and then move away is not going to prevent an AoO

"Where's he going?" Doubtful growls, as his foe flees back the other way.

He quickly follows suit, moving just as fast, and catches up to him before he goes too far.

This time, one heavy boot kicks out at the man's knee... hoping to prevent him from continuing his hit and run tactics.

The party moves on to the Meditation Room. The walls and columns of this small building are covered in carvings of mythological scenes. Three sitting pillows of slightly different sizes lie on the floor.

Perception or Survival check, DC 16:
The pillows look relatively new. They have been used recently.

On the northern wall, two inhuman creatures with hair burning like flames hold down a third creature with rough, chiseled features atop an anvil. The two fiery creatures have hammers raised as if shaping their victim in a blacksmith’s forge. Behind them, a towering monstrosity crushes an army beneath its elephantine feet.

Knowledge(Planes) DC 22:
The inhuman creatures are stylized fire and earth elementals, respectively.

The east wall depicts muscular, horned humanoids—one holding a crystalline spike the size of a spear—clambering up a hill toward a fiery circle; the monstrous creature from the east wall storms after them.

Knowledge(Planes) DC 18:
The horned humanoids are efreeti, genies of fire. The fiery circle must be some kind of temporary portal.

Profession(Soldier) DC 15 or Knowledge (History) DC 20:
Based on the position and direction they are heading in, the horned humanoids are planning some kind of planned retreat to lure the colossal creature into a trap.

The south wall shows the horned humanoids driving the spike into the monster, pinning it against the wall of a cavern above a pool. Far in the background, a bearded giant with ram’s horns curling from his head howls in pain.

Knowledge(Religion) DC 18:
The bearded giant is Yamatsumi, the god of mountains, volcanoes, and the winter.

Knowledge(Geography or Nature) DC 15:
The cavern is more like a basin of a volcano.

The west wall’s carvings depict a mortal woman who carries a battered suit of armor and gazes up at a towering old man who stands before her. There isn't much left, so I'll move us ahead here.

As you analyze and compare the scrolls and the mural in the Meditation Room, you hear gusts of wind blast forth from the Altar Room!

Surrounded by fierce whirling winds, an athletic woman of living stone appears atop the head of the massive serpentine statue. In a booming telepathic voice, she declares, “For over a thousand years I’ve stood vigil over the procession that leads up to this temple. I was watching you while you walked the Pilgrim’s Path. Everything you faced along the way was a test of your abilities and your character. But the test is not over— answer my questions and face my judgment!”

Jikaru prepares to ask you several questions.
Once you have chosen your answer, you need to make a skill check associated with the answer.

Sense Motive DC 15:
Not all actions are equal- even if you make the skill check, you may still lose respect.

Jinkaru’s first question: “Who are you and why are you here?”

First Question responses:

Bluff : Lie about the Pathfinder Society’s goals to make them seem more honorable.
Diplomacy: Tell about the Pathfinder Society in an honest but positive tone.
Knowledge (geography or local): Tell about the people and traditions of the Inner Sea region.
Perform (oratory): Describe Pathfinders and their past successes in a dynamic manner.

Tomren stands dumbfounded by the statue's question for only a brief moment before he collects his thoughts.

"We hail from the west, from an area called 'The Inner Sea Region'. It is a place of myriad cultures, ranging from the ancient civilizations of Garund, to the fractious states of central Avistan and all the way to the wilds at the foot of The Crown of The World."

"Hsamira..." you can see a tinge of anger in her voice as she repeats the name. She regains her composure and asks a new question once Tomren finishes.

She points at Tanbaru. “This is no place for an oni! What were you thinking when you brought that creature here?” He continues to tremble, unable to speak.

Question 2 answers:

Bluff : Claim that Tanbaru never revealed that he was an oni.
Diplomacy: Explain that what happened to Tanbaru was beyond his control.
Knowledge (planes): Point out that a spirit oni is not as evil or corrupt as other types of oni.
Knowledge (religion): Point out that as a neutral deity, Yamatsumi has no particular bias against oni.

Anwar rouses himself from his shock at the appearance of the strange creature.

We apologise for any offence we have given, it was not our intent. My name is Anwar and we are members of the Pathfinder Society although you may not of heard of us, we are primarily based in the Inner Sea Region. We are explorers, scholars and archaeologists and we seek to document and preserve places like this. We meant no disrespect.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16

As she points an Tanbaru he continues.

The Oni you see here did not always have this form. Once he guarded this place but when a section of it was taken by the sorceress Hao Jin he was taken with it. It is he who has lead us here and, we hoped, that by returning he could perhaps help us learn more about this place.

Might we humbly ask who you are?

Emboldened by the chance to lecture an immortal being, Tomren clears his throat and speaks again.

"Actually, even if Tanbaru is currently an oni, he is at least of a type that's less cruel and destructive than most of his ilk."

Rogar might have nodded off during the info dump in town but he got the basics.

"The oni didn't start out mean. He was enslaved and they made him do mean things. I think that turned him into an oni, Right?"

Nothing (beneficial) to add. Kalas' attitude normally just causes trouble in situations like this.

"That makes more sense." The statue pauses. "You may call me Jikaru. I have one more question to ask of you."

Jikaru. Jikaru. That name seems so... inviting. Kalas can detect Tanbaru's confusion as the name stirs lost memories.

Jikaru continues her questioning. “I have failed my ward. Look at the desecrated altar! Tell me why I shouldn’t just let the fire and ash of Yamatsumi cleanse this place?”

As she speaks, the earth trembles, and fiery ashes are visible at the summit of the mountain looming over the temple. Droplets of lava begin to seep and bead at the seams between the temple’s stone blocks.

N-no...Jikaru! That's how I felt when I became an oni! Tanbaru's quite concerned.

Answers for quesiton 3:

Craft (sculpture or stonemasonry) or Knowledge (engineering): Give a realistic estimate on how easily the temple can be restored.
Diplomacy: Promise to find people who can repair the temple.
Intimidate or Knowledge (planes): Warn Jiraku about turning into an oni.
Knowledge (religion): Talk about rituals that restore the altar’s connection to Yamatsumi.

"Tell her that, Tanbaru!"

"Because the volcano will cleanse its slopes when it decides. That is nature's way. If you violate her laws, you dirty your own soul and cleanse nothing."

Kalas removes his mask and lets it float free. "Tell her, Tanbaru."

Doubtful scowls at the mountain, as it starts to tremble and spit out remnants of ash.

"Told you." He mutters, as his world view gets validated once again. He steps away from the nearest bit of lava seeping up through the temple stones.

"Your ward is not beyond saving yet, Jikaru! With hard work and determination, it can still be restored."

Tomren's rational logic calms her down. Jiraku says, “So few visitors have come and shown such respect for local traditions. I had forsaken my love and duty for this place, but perhaps there is hope for me yet.” She maintains her kami form, dismisses the winds and climbs down the statue.

Urged by Kalas, Tanbaru floats off of him and moves up to Jikaru. "Jikaru... You do not remember me? I do not blame you. It is me, Tanbaru. We guarded this temple together."

”Tanbaru? What did happen to you?” She looks closer at the trembling oni mask.

”I… I too grew bitter, Jikaru. It is good to see you again.” Tanbaru turns to the party. ”Perhaps I should stay with her at the temple. But the Pathfinder Society has offered me much to do. Do you think I should stay with Jikaru?”

It’s up to you if you think he should stay or not. What do you think?
