There is a small problem with that; Cleaver doesn't have the BoF, I couldn't include him in the spell because I couldn't see him since he was in the fog at the time I cast it

Seeing Varg take off again Brachus takes flight once more and having his rope out already stands by in case Varg manages to grab hold of his target to tie down if needed.

D'oh! Well I guess that makes Varg's CMB score 29 instead of 31 :)

Fortunately, this combat is as over as it's going to be. Three failed defensive castings (when he has Combat Casting)'ll do it.

The gang gathers around the caster, who decided to not press his luck. He drops the dagger and doesn't resist!

COMBAT OVER!

As the woman wheezes silently, Zahur is successfully captured and remains as stoic and silent as that zone of Silence he is in.

Now, my reading of Breath of Life is as follows: Woman died on Rhyster's turn. Thus, as long as you can hit her with a Breath of Life.

Some notes on this that I've figured out before anyone asks:

  • The bubbles meet and that space to her right is still 20 feet from each bubble.
  • Sheathing the sword will not stop it, as the blade is still the pommel, grip, etc. as well as the blade.
  • Recall that dismissing a spell is a standard, as would throwing Aakif's magic, no-sound sword somewhere.
  • It is not recommended having Varg (or someone of equivalent meat) let go of the caster.
  • Being in Silence somewhat hinders complex tactics, though "move her there" or "Give her to X" are solidly possible.
  • She counts as a helpless creature at this time; not quite an object yet (or weirdly Breath would fail.)
  • If anyone has First Aid Gloves, I'll have to do some research to see if "cast" means "as a SLA" or "as a Spell."

Map is up-to-date. Six seconds until woman dies. Now's the time for that football play-type tactics.

Aakif would like to drop the scimitar in the adjacent square to the west. This should create a square between the silence spells, next to the lady that I can cast in. Unless anyone stops him, Aakif will then move to the square of non-silence and cast breath of life on the lady. All this is with gm agreement of course.

Male Bear Burglar 1

Fun fact I learned less than a second ago: "Dropping an Item" explicitly lists "an adjacent square" as an option. That was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I need to remember that for disarm characters...

Aakif (barring anyone stopping him) attempts to restore the woman to life!

Now roll your 1s.

Great for disarm when you drop the weapon behind you!

Aakif will heal the lady, then search for and take any weapons and spell components, followed by potions and other potentially magic items.

"Stop your struggles NOW. We have just used resources to return your soul to your body. We will not do so again. You will accompany us back to the Lodge, and you will give us no further problems."

Aakif will cast detect magic to assist in searching, then bind her arms with rope, leaving about fifteen feet of rope to hold onto. After the discussion, Aakif will retrieve Upsia's scimitar.

Early morning bit; During development, Jacobs wanted Breath to be a Cure spell so the Healing Domain would work with it and spontaneous casting would be possible. Alas, it didn't make it through.

With some relief, Luisila dismisses her silence spell, pulls some rope out of her adjacent pack and moves towards the Mwangi woman. She proceeds to unceremoniously sit down on the woman, ensuring she can't move until Varg is free to tie her up.

Cleaver remains very angry raging as he trusses Zahur up like a Crystalhue turkey with Brachus' rope. His eyes bulge and drool dribbles from his mouth into his beard as Ryster's victim/Aakif's patient/Luisila's chair receives the same treatment, using the half-elven cleric's rope this time.

Luisila massages Varg's neck as he ties up the Mwangi woman. imparts guidance

Rope Use CMB against pinned/helpless + rage + guidance: 20 + 13 + 1 = 34 If the DC to escape from these bindings is higher than 20 + the target's CMB, the target cannot escape from the bonds, even with a natural 20 on the check.

The Frutzi barbarian breathes heavily as he calms down, while Luisila continues to work on his shoulders and neck.

"I was thinking you were so angry because you haven't killed anything on this mission, Varg. But then I remembered you did cleave that summoned hyena."

She speaks to the others as she works. "Any good loot, Aakif? I'm pretty sure Zahur is the last one on VC Balentiir's list. Might be time to return to Sandswept Hall. What do you guys think?"

Now that talking works, the woman proves far more vocal. "Gah, Zah! I told you this was stupid! There was no need to kill anyone!"

He does not respond, remaining stoic. This visibly (and audibly) angers the woman. "Hey, jagoff! You hear me? Now my mother's going to die in her bed after her daughter gets hanged! All because of you!"

He does respond to this, though not in a manner placating Lazuli. "I do not understand what you mean."

Luisila looks from Lazuli to Zahur and back again. As a Pathfinder she has witnessed many of these ‘no honor among thieves rouges rogues’ arguments once the opposing survivors have been subdued.

She is surprised to find how indifferent she has grown to the squabbling, accusations and counter-accusations flying between human beings pleading to salvage something of their lives.

The priestess forces herself to listen to what is being said before *sighing* “Lazuli, if there is any truth at all to what you are saying I suggest you spill the whole story now. If there is an innocent party like your mother involved, we may be able to call in a favor from VC Balentiir to have her looked after.”

“We can probably organize to have you face your Venture-Captain rather than Sergeant Schultz, but frankly your story’s gonna have to be good for me to want to bother, if we come across a Kopesh Guard patrol before we reach Sandswept Hall.”

She *shrugs* “Your call, Lazuli. Oh, and try to speak in a dialect I understand, OK?” ;)

"Uh, still not any better; you know why Balentiir chose a prison as his lodge site and didn't bother to renovate away from that whole schema, right?" Lazuli is displeased with the current offering. "That's not much better; just a lot slower."

lu:
Given she seems just as willing to deal with Balentiir as the guards, one of the following is likely true:
  • She seems to believe her story is worth enough as a bargaining chip.
  • She believes she has a better chance of escaping from guards than the Lodge.
  • She would rather deal with guards than Balentiir (specifically, or the Society) for some reason.

What you are certain of is this list:

  • Priority #1 is her avoiding the law(ful).
  • The mother story seems to be real.
  • The distaste for the murdering seems to be genuine, but not to the scale a Good person would react.. More of a "That risk seemed incredibly unneeded and with no real benefit" idea.
  • She was probably never a scout and thus makes that honor comment about sticking around after story time questionable.

Zahur is effectively pleading the fifth, if the euphemism is understood down under.

“I am the Law”:
While our Constitution does not specifically protect the right to silence. (We have no Bill of Rights) This ‘right’ is well-established in common law and is sacrosanct in virtually all cases.

Notable exceptions: you have to supply your name and address to a police officer requesting it and it doesn’t apply in Royal Commissions (but those are VERY HEAVY deals).

Luisila makes no attempt to hide her thoughts from the captives as she backs-up Aakif.

“I believe her about the sick mother and that she wasn’t expecting Zahur to murder her fellow agents. However, she doesn’t seem particularly remorseful about being an accessory during/after the event, which is pretty appalling behavior for a Pathfinder.”

She *shrugs* again. “I agree with Aakif. What happens next is up to you, Lazuli. Revenge trumps redemption in my book. You wanna stay out of Balentiir’s dungeon? Give us something good.”

For reference for the non-American in the house, the fifth amendment isn't entirely the right to remain silent; those are the Miranda Rights and that's just for police detainment (as far as I know). The Fifth Amendment is the right to denying answering a question if the accused believes answering the question to be incriminating in and of itself. Similar, but not the same.

She *bobs* to the bound sorcerer, lying face down in the filthy alleyway. "By all means, Master. Let's move this show along!"

"Lazuli, when we are finished at the base, we can examine your mother. We may be able to help her.

Should we take Zahur to the guards or the lodge?

"I say Lodge." Luisila responds without hesitation.

"But if we run into Schultz, we can tell him that Zahur's cursed item needs to be identified and removed (which is true) and suggest that's best done by VC Balentiir's people."

Luisila *shrugs* "If the good sergeant makes an issue of jurisdiction or something, he can always take it up with Balentiir later. Hopefully he takes the view that because the cursed items are our mess, it's our responsibility to clean it up."

Ryster shrugs and grumbles an agreement.

Just got back from GenCon. Will be catching up over the next couple days.

Since we're all in agreement we drop off Zahur at the lodge then head to the location of Lazuli's map. When we get there but before we enter, Aakif would like to cast communal resist fire on the party. The duration will be 20 minutes each on Varg, Ryster, Lusila, and Brachus. If anyone does not want the spell, the extra time will go on Varg, since he's front line.
