I'd suggest filling the mayor in on everything. This isn't our town, we don't know it and we're not connected here. I have no idea where to hide a kobold, that was shooting arrows at us just a few minutes ago. And I would really not like to find ourselves trying to explain our actions if the kobold were found out.
GM Brew |
The party returns to Belhaim lugging their loot behind them. They are able to secure an audience with the mayor in short order. She sits patiently as the party describes their experience in the fallen tower. As D'Novan explains their discovery of the kobold tribe, a look of concern grows on her face.
"Well, I must congratulate you all on a job well done. You shall have the 500 gold I promised and, as neither I nor the town hold any claim to the tower, you may keep all that you recovered as an additional payment." The Lady Devry thinks a bit and nods once before she continues. "How would you like to earn a bit more, hm? I have feared for some time that we may have a tribe of those detestable kobold's living near here, out east by the quarry to be exact. They have caused us no trouble up to this point but your encounter with them seems to have changed that." Looking determined she goes on "I want them out, gone. I cannot take the chance they will harm my people more than they already have. I want you to root them out, kill their chieftain, whatever it takes to rid them from out lands. I am not particular about the details and will leave that to you. Do this for me, then I have a lot of amethyst gems I will give you in payment. What do you say? Up for some more work?"
The lady mayor awaits your response.

I too will continue to offer my services. I think we can find a creative way of getting rid of these pests.
Takumi looks over his gear Do you recommend anyone in town that could provide reasonable prices on gear and supplies?
Mitchel |
I am always interested in a bit of adventure. But I must pray for an evening or so. I have called upon my goddess quite a bit. Mitchel thinks something over for a minute and then continues Might we consider a small donation to charity? 10% of the reward perhaps, with the remainder of the reward and recovered loot split among us. Between myself and D'Novan we might find good cause and keep our deities appeased.
Takumi-copmc |
I won't stop anyone from spending their money but I may need every coin I earned to prepare for these kobolds. Once I am fat, happy and enjoying my wealth, I then may consider donating money to charity. I don't forsee the Gods smiling upon me anytime soon so I think it may be wise to keep what I have.
Kell Mox |
Kell’s countenance softens briefly upon hearing Mitchel’s request for a donation. I know that I’ve have made it this far in life only due to divine intervention. While I am not a devout follower of your god, I respect and honor the healing and protection that was channeled by you. I will gladly provide the offering from my share of the treasure.
Speaking of treasure, since the mayor has just determined that we can keep the chests found in the tower, how much does that mean we get a piece?
Takumi-copmc |
Takumi gathers up his take and stores it in various pockets.
I think I will make my way over to Chance Smithy and buy myself a buckler of masterwork quality. After that, I plan to stop at the Shrine of the Seven Roses and see if they have any healing potions for sale.
What do you think we should grab to aid in defeating the camp of kobolds? Maybe some oil if we feel the need to torch their camp? Let me know if you guys think of anything before I make my way to the Smith
D'Novan |
Hauling around my bag of loot, I then quickly dispose of it by buying masterwork agile breastplate, some potions of healing, and a very powerful long bow to go with my nice masterwork bastard sword. I also sell the inferior scale mail, gshortbow, etc....feeling like I got ripped off at only half the price for resale, but slag it, I got something at least.
GM Brew |
After some much needed downtime, the newly formed adventuring crew decides to make good on their promise to rid Belheim of the kobold menace. They travel without incident to the quarry and cautiously approach the suspected lair.
A fiffty-foot-wide strip of shore stretches between the lake’s edge and the forty-foot-high quarry wall. It’s strewn with stony debris—the result of centuries of rockslides. Several larger boulders stand against the middle of the quarry wall. Sure enough, they spy a group of kobolds guarding the mouth of a few caves set in the rock face.
The party stands far enough away to that they are certain the kobolds cannot see them yet.
Map updated. What do you do?
Kell Mox |
Sorry for the out of sequence post. I was writing at the same time as you; I’m just slower and indecisive with my word choices.
Kell nods to Takumi as they pass each other at the Chance Smithy. How’s the quality of the steel?
He wanders around the shop a while before conversing with the smith. A nice shop you got here and you know your craft but I don’t see steel for professional warriors. The smithy looks up from his anvil and appears slightly taken back by the massive half-orc. we’ll we don’t get too many warriors like yourself in these parts, must less here at the Chance. He looks Kell over for a moment before waving a soot covered hand at Kell. Come with me.
He leads the warrior into a back part of the forge that contains various high quality weapons and a combat dummy. Kell’s eye is quickly drawn to the black colored heavy flail with ornate brass trim. Walking up to the weapon, he grasps the flail and tests it for balance. The weapon feels like an extension of his arm and takes a swing at the training dummy.
The blow lands squarely on the target’s chest plate and shards of steel and wood fill the room as the target shatters under the impact. A wide smile appears on Kell’s face as he turn to the wide eyed smith. How much for this weapon? The smith’s shock fades and is replaced with a smile. Well friend, that was a special piece that required months of work. The original client could not wield it properly so it sat here, waiting for you I guess. I could part with it for 345 gold coins.
Without hesitation he hands the coins to the smith. This will be put to good use and perhaps it will be as effective against real men as it was against your training target; a Soul Crusher!
The smith nods as he takes the coins. It was fashioned with cold iron from the black hill mine so it will be effective against fey and other magical creatures if you need. Thank you for business friend.

We know what that Archer did to us in the cave. I think we should wait until dark to make our approach or use some sort of diversion. We will be in open sight if we try to climb down now. Maybe we can scout around for another way down that provides better cover? So far, I am not seeing many options.
Takumi-copmc |
I have one other suggestion. We know that Hunclay the wizard was working with the kobolds. Perhaps they are unaware of his death? I could disguise myself to look like Hunclay and we could approach seeking the leader to get answers as to what went wrong with the Tower. At the very least, I could get us closer to the kobolds before they realize something is up. This could give us the jump on the lizards. What do you think? I got an up close look at his body and I may be able to create a close image of what he should look like.

Summary: Changes your appearance.
You make yourself—including clothing, armor, weapons, and equipment—look different. You can seem 1 foot shorter or taller, thin, fat, or in between. You cannot change your creature type (although you can appear as another subtype). Otherwise, the extent of the apparent change is up to you. You could add or obscure a minor feature or look like an entirely different person or gender.
The spell does not provide the abilities or mannerisms of the chosen form, nor does it alter the perceived tactile (touch) or audible (sound) properties of you or your equipment. If you use this spell to create a disguise, you get a +10 bonus on the Disguise check. A creature that interacts with the glamer gets a Will save to recognize it as an illusion.
Kell Mox |
Kell looks back towards D’Novan waiting for a response. Your call boss. While I normally prefer the direct approach, Tukami’s plan could work. Just let me know when you want me to start smashing the little buggers.
GM Brew |
The party decides to try to bluff their way past the kobolds. Takumi uses his innate magic ability to change his shape and mimics into a passable likeliness of an old man wizard type. He readies himself to approach the kobold lair...
Ok, tell me how you approach the kobold gang and where everyone is when Takumi engages the kobolds.
Takumi-copmc |
I think at least one of you should accompany me in this ruse. Perhaps Kell or Gabby can accompany me as a bodyguard. If I go solo, I don't see how I am any better off with all of you in the distance. I don't think they would all leave their post but I am hoping at least one or two of them will take us inside. Once we are out of sight we can jump the kobolds and then turn our attention to the others at the cave entrance. If the rest of you make your move shortly after, they will be unable to retreat and sound any alarm inside. My disguise will only give me about 10 min or so before they will start seeing through it. I can go alone, but if I fail then they will make quick work of me. Does that sound like a good plan or does anyone have some insight as to how we approach them?
Takumi will have his sword out and disguise it as a walking stick. I don't want to lose an action drawing a weapon.
D'Novan |
I listen to Tak, and then I shake my head in a "no".
Tak, we do this together. I like the idea of a body guard, except it should be all of us. Remember you are a wizard, you know the arcane, you are rich and powerful and not a man to be trifled with. You can afford the company a loyal set of bodyguards, not just one. You don't walk into a Dagon's lair or lions den alone or ever lightly armed.
With that I take a half step to the left behind Tak and I indicate that Gabby and Kell should be out front as vanguard, with Mitch on the other flanking side of Tak, all suggestions of course.
Takumi-copmc |
If our plan is to go as a group, then I suggest you each position yourselves near one of the kobolds. I will distract them for as long as possible as each of you moves into position. If they see through my disguise then you will know when to attack. If they buy the bluff and one of them turns to enter the cave, that is when we should attack. This is not a diplomatic mission and we need to take advantage of the element of surprise. We can't let any of them get into the cave or we may have an uphill battle the entire way.
Takumi looks to everyone as they get into position. If everyone is ready then I will prepare myself. If they catch on right away then we need to decide to abort the attack or go in full charge? I say we are committed and continue the assault. If anyone has a back up plan then please share.
Takumi begins preparing his disguise and positions his weapon as if it was a walking stick.
GM Brew |
The party approaches the kobold guards, with a disguised Takmi leading the way. As the group approaches, the gang of kobolds grow agitated and begin to point at the party and make yipping barks to each other. The two nearest the group level their spears while another toward the back dashes into the cave.
The pair nearest the party point their spears and bark at the party.
What do you do?
Takumi-copmc |
Takumi starts to wave his hands furiously as he approaches the kobolds. Put down your Spears you scaly fools. Tell your Chieftain that Hunclay demands his presence at once. We had a deal about the Tower and is has all gone to hell! Sesserak did not make good on her promises.
Takumi-copmc |
Ugh! This wasn't the plan at all! Well it can't go anymore south than this so everyone better get to stabbing
Takumi lifts his disguised Katana and takes a swing at the closest kobold
Katana Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Critical Confirmation: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Katana Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
If Takumi attacks in surprise round
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 6
GM Brew |
Gabrielle bypass all diplomacy and takes a swing at the lead kobold. The alerted kobold side steps the chop and the group of them spring into action.
