Travis Brogan |
Travis uses the axe and chops through a very small section of board near one edge to test out the strength before chopping the hole big enough for a person or two to slip through. When the hole is large enough, he looks down to the area below the boards.
Travis has darkvision
Brayden Green |
Although the wood is thick, with a sharpened axe it only takes about ten minutes to work open a hole big enough to peer through. Throwing a lighted copper down you see 2 creatures down there, both of whom seem to have once been human, but are clearly not anymore. They look up towards where the light came from and shriek.
Shilyn D'Sable |
"Um, far be it from me to mention this, Travis," she says as she peers into the opening before jerking her head back at the noise, "I think we're safer not going down there. Don't ya think?"
Pulling her bow from her shoulder, she steps through it and bends the bow over her leg to set the string before reaching for an arrow.
Brayden Green |
Undead, fleshy.
Shilyn D'Sable |
crap.. my post got ate :( Well, there went those dice rolls.
Setting an arrow to the string and raising her bow, Shilyn takes careful aim through the hole in the boards. Letting out her breath, her fingers let the string slide and the arrow speeds on its way..
attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
"We shall see how that works," she says with a grin.
LoL.. that's funny.. same exact rolls as my eaten post. I'll take it :)
Travis Brogan |
"We have Shi and her bow... " Travis answers Alphonse.
Travis takes a chance with his sling, trying to hit the same one Shi aimed at.
to hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
dmg if hits: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Still not updating for me. That's annoying.
I'm just going to say that you do the two baddies...
No reason to delay the inevitable.
So... Who wants to belay into a pit of hopefully dead undead?
Travis Brogan |
When the two undead are dispactched, Travis slips down into the hole and looks around, helping Shi down as well if she's disposed to join him. Then the intense searching begins.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

I'm just going to say that you do the two baddies...

Goodie! Our team almost got wrecked here the first time we went through.
Shilyn D'Sable |
Shilyn covers Travis with her bow, arrow at the ready as he descends into the pit below. Once he indicates the way is clear, she drops down to join him.
"Well, let's see if I can recover my arrow," she mutters as her eyes begin examining the surroundings looking for anything salvageable.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13

You find a narrow underwater passage (5ft wide). It may lead to nothing, or it may lead to everything. It may lead to a trap. It may not.
:) who's first?
Wren the FeatherMage |
18 hours and no other volunteers? Sheesh.
Wren will bring the rope up and knot it. She will take 10 to climb down the knotted rope.
Wren will cast light as necessary and has low light vision as well.
Travis Brogan |
sorry was teaching today
Travis sighs and dives into the water, depending on his darkvision to maneuver in the narrow passageway.
swim if nec: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Brayden Green |
Travis swims a little down, and then a little up, in a "u" shape, and is surprised to find himself "surface" in a very narrow, but breathable area. The air is thick and old, but you won't die in the very near future (until all the oxygen is used up and replaced.)
There is a shelf built into the shaft, climbing up a ways. It has a treasure chest on it that appears to be sealed airtight.
It is locked, if you try it.
Travis Brogan |
Hopefully, Shi followed thru the passage and can open the chest... if not, Travis will at least try to see if it is trapped, using some of the skills he has just started to learn from Shi.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
He may not be able to remove a trap but perhaps he can spot one if it's there.
but probably not with that roll, sigh
Travis waits for Shi to examine the chest, watching her carefully for clues on how to do it properly.
Shilyn D'Sable |
RETCON.. sorry really bad day yesterday at work.. didn't post :(
With a shrug, she unstrings her bow and shoulders it again before going into the water with the others.. "If I ruin my boots Alphonse, I'm going to haunt you!" she mutters as she goes into the water, dagger in hand..

Arriving with the others, Shilyn walks over to the chest and begins examining it.

Wren the FeatherMage |
Seeing so much energy to go down the hole, Wren declines to get wet and/or dirty and instead volunteers to stay up top with Shorga and keep watch.
"Remember when you used to talk, Shorga? You forgot how, huh, dearie? You've lost your wits on this island. Poor dearie. We'll get you fixed up soon enough."
Brayden Green |
Oh man, I think my post must have gotten ate yesterday...
There is no trap, but the lock seems to be pretty solidly built and what would normally be a pretty successful pick job for you ends up with no result. No penalty, so you can keep trying, and anyone that has an affinity (or future affinity) for theiving and/or connivery can help. Let's say if your Dex is 14 or greater you can aid, or if you can come up with a compelling argument for using something else, you are welcome to try me.
You are in a very narrow room right now (5 feet or so) so there isn't much room to help in there.
Travis Brogan |
I am on my phone and can't roll dice. Please roll an assist for me unless I can take 10 to assist ;)
Wren the FeatherMage |
Wren bounces between looking down the hole and watching the jungle.
"What did you find? Bring it up to the light of day! I'm sure Shorga and I can pull it up."
Shilyn D'Sable |
Muttering to herself, Shilyn examines the lock a bit more then concentrates on getting the blasted thing open.
disable device take 20: 20 + 8 = 28
Travis Brogan |

Alphonse Veritas |
Alphonse brings the torch closer to shine light in the lock.
Aid: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Unfortunately, he brings it TOO close and singes Shilyn's eyebrows.
He hastily snatches back the torch and gives her a sheepish look.

In the new place, and internet is all set up. We are ready to go! Thanks to everyone for the patience. Our new apartment looks like an episode of Hoarders with all our stuff piled everywhere, but we'll get to that as we go...
Game on!!!
The body on top of the pit has nothing, and with your powers combined you (are captain planet) and manage to just barely open the chest, without much harm or injury.
You find the following:
3500 copper pieces
2000 silver pieces
1000 gold pieces
50 platinum
a silk pouch of garnets and amethysts worth a pretty penny
a half dozen noble outfits that are moldy and tattered beyond repair (some feathers though!) and a scroll in a watertight mithral scroll tube.
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Wow. That's a lotta loot."
Wren is quick to agree with Alphonse, diving for the feathers as soon as she sees them, ignoring the gold and coin for the true treasure.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 Knowledge (nature) - ID feathers
After a bit of cooing and colorcoding with the feathers, she will eventually cast Read Magic and examine the scrolls.
Shilyn D'Sable |
Shilyn empties the bag of gems into her hand and spends a moment gazing at each one in turn. "Oooh, nice!" she says as her eyes light up.
Appraise (or simply admire..): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Shorga Brull |
"Remember when you used to talk, Shorga? You forgot how, huh, dearie? You've lost your wits on this island. Poor dearie. We'll get you fixed up soon enough."
Shorga shakes himself from another one of his near-constant episodes of daydreaming. "Wha-? Oh yesh, exshcushe me. I have been having the shame pervashive daydream... Shurrounded by three kidsh and one of them a howling baby." The half orc gives a slight shudder, "It ish but a daydream. Letsh tie the rope to Usha here, she ish much better at the lifting of heavy things than me." and proceeds to follow his own advice, tying the rope to Ursa's saddle in order to assist his friends ascend from the pit.
When they do all arrive back at the top of the , Shorga's eyes light up at the sight of so much treasure. "Ishirou will want to hear about thish I think."
Travis Brogan |
"Yes, it's a nice haul for us and hopefully we'll be able to make use of it at some point. Nice to hear your voice again Shorga... you've been so silent and introspective of late. Perhaps your dreams are prophetic, in which case, I'd congratulate you early on your good fortune, for family and children are a blessing." Travis looks truly forlorn though as he speaks these words.. and he looks away suddenly, finding a loose strap on his pack to occupy his attention for a moment.
Shorga Brull |
The half orc gives Travis a bemused look, eyes remembering the daydream for several moments, considering it from several angles, and finally nods with a faint smile coming to his tooth-filled lips. "Yesh, thank you, I do believe you're probably right."
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Wha-? Oh yesh, exshcushe me. I have been having the shame pervashive daydream... Shurrounded by three kidsh and one of them a howling baby."
"What was that, Plumie? Do you dream of having a nest of your own?" Wren absentmindedly answers Plume, the bird who doesn't speak.
Wren, as if suddenly hit by an realization, sits upright. She looks at Shorga, then Ursa, then Shorga again.
"Welcome back, Shorga...I had thought the horse would speak before you did again. You dreamt of the horrors of babies and children, did you? Sounds terrible, as if they were orc children."
Brayden Green |
The gems are indeed very rare. They are worth what someone will pay you for them, but you would be offended at any offer not in the triple digits range. They could fetch as much as four or five hundred gold, to the right buyer, in the right market, with the right contacts.
You guys are awesome. Your rp is unsurpassed by all other groups.
I like the idea of Wren diving at the feathers instead of an overwhelming fortune. Travis is on to something, as well. Ishirou would probably like to hear that his information has made you something akin to a modern day millionaire. :) Also, unless Ursa/Shorga is carrying the majority of the loot, it is pretty heavy on you all.
Shorga Brull |
Wren, as if suddenly hit by an realization, sits upright. She looks at Shorga, then Ursa, then Shorga again.
"Welcome back, Shorga...I had thought the horse would speak before you did again. You dreamt of the horrors of babies and children, did you? Sounds terrible, as if they were orc children."
Shorga moves to cover Ursa's ears, looking concerned. He lowers his voice to speak quietly to his horse, "Don't worry Ursha, she just can't undershtand you. Yesh I know you shpeak very well. It'sh nothing to be upshet over." and rubs her neck affectionately.
Shorga quickly, perhaps too quickly, volunteers to carry the loot upon him and Ursa. He pats the horses neck proudly, "Richesht horshe in all the land. You even have your own island!" and guffah's loudly at his own jest. "Should be head back to the othersh? I think we've found quite a bit for today." his and Ursa laden with the wealth of treasure. Unless someone objects of course. :)
Travis Brogan |
"With Ursa of course! She's amazing." Travis explains, even while Shorga is tying the loot to Ursa's saddlebags.
Travis Brogan |
ah... i think we already swam it out, without the actual chest, just the contents, and Ursa pulled it up from the pit... I thought it was a done deal... if not, we'll have to engineer a way to do it, THEN have Ursa pull it up.
Shorga Brull |
If it's not a done deal, Ursa could still pull the chest, assuming it's not bigger than a person, through the underwater tunnel and then up the shaft.
Wren the FeatherMage |
"Should be head back to the othersh? I think we've found quite a bit for today."
To be honest, Shorga, Wren has always considered Ursa to be the smarter of you two.
Wren is delighted to head back to camp...she just can't wait to show off her new feathers. She's sure others will be so jealous, but there is nothing she can do about that. Her beauty is a special kind of beauty.
Additionally, Wren is happy to not have lost any of her friends on this trip. Nope, no sirree, no lost gnomes today. It is a dang day of victory: feathers *and* safety.
* * *
Back at camp, Wren will flaunt and show her new feathers to all, happily twirling and showing off, so happy is she.
Later that night, during her watch, she will spend some time trying to unlock the magics within the feathers.
GM Brayden, what was in the scrolls?
Shorga Brull |
Ha! I'll be sure to let him know how you feel when I talk to him next.
Shorga, when they return, immediately calls Ishirou over to them, but lets one of the others who actually found the loot reveal it. "I think you will like thish my friend." he says with a grin.
Travis Brogan |
Travis grins at the others and helps lay out the treasure for Ishirou to see, all but the scrolls of course, which are in Wren's skilled hands. "It seems we can all dress as nobles now, though we'd look a bit torn and tattered, as the clothing hasn't weathered well. But the coins and gems are a good find regardless." He shrugs. "Not that it matters, but here we are all kings and noblemen, lords of all we survey. Doesn't really matter how we dress though, does it? There is no one to impress."
