Beleg the Galtan |
So you are saying that after you catch up to him? Well there goes the chance to negotiate...
Yeah. . . Beleg's too grumpy to screw around with that unless someone else takes the lead.
Also, I didn't update my HPs yet since I was away but I obviously would have healed up after the swarm/ooze fight. Two charges to bring me to full.

"Son of a b#~~@," Beleg mutters under his breath as the blow connect and the blood begins pouring through his shirt. They better f@#+ing catch up.
DC 19 Defensive Casting: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30
Beleg casts a spell and becomes fuzzy! (blur) It's not clear if the blur applies to each image or if it only applies when the attack hits the real Beleg. I'll leave it up to GM discretion.
After casting his spell, Beleg steps to the side and charges his blade with arcane energy. making my scimitar +3 keen[/i]

[ooc]Poo. Oh well.
GM Bold Strider |
Since the Blur grants concealment and the concealment rules state: "Make the attack normally—if the attacker hits, the defender must make a miss chance d% roll to avoid being struck." I am inclined to think that the Mauler has to hit you first before the concealment kicks in.
Initiative:
1st: Beleg - In Combat

3rd: Takahiro, Aod, Haris, Quarr, Fredrick
Aod the Witchchild |
Coming to the bridge, Aod doesn't even stop, leaping from the edge at full speed and plunging into the waters below. It takes a moment for him to surface, and though it seems like he's struggling under the weight of his armor, he grabs a passing boat and pushes off for shore, circumventing the mob and sinkhole.

GM Bold Strider |
Fredrick casts a spell on himself. Aod moves forward three spaces! Takahiro is now mired in his square and will require a standard action to unmire himself. Haris successfully catches up to the Mauler and Beleg.
The wolf, having been trained by the Mauler, leaps around Beleg's sword range before flanking with Vilk.
Vilk laughs mercilessly as he slices at Beleg with his short sword and bites at him with his maw. His wolf snaps at Beleg's leg, trying to drop the target attacking his master to the ground.

All seven Belegs drop to the ground, bleeding from two stab wounds to the stomach. Beleg at -5hp. His second strike with his short sword misses the real unconscious Beleg as does his gory bite and two more fake Belegs are savaged into non-existance. The wolf lands a hit on one of the Belegs as well only to have it disappear in its maw a second time.
Aod, Quarr, Takahiro and Fredrick hear a curse-filled scream as Beleg falls. Only Haris is close enough to see the four remaining, bleeding heaps of Beleg in person.
Haris' Sense Motive: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Haris thinks that the Mauler is a pretty stand-up guy and won't actually coup-de-grace the fallen Beleg for interfering with his hunt and trying to attack him *cough cough.
Initiative:
1st: Beleg: -5hp, Bleeding Out, 3 images, 20% concealment
2nd: Mauler and Wolf
3rd: Aod, Quarr, Takahiro, Fredrick and Haris
This is why you always alternate. Low to hit first, High to hit second, Low to hit third, etc. It's Bold Strider dice magic.
EDIT: Realized that unconscious gets prone + helpless AC detriments.
GM Bold Strider |
Quarr pokes his head back through the shortcut through the Overgrown Greenbelt and yells Hurry up! Beleg doesn't sound like he is doing very good.
Takahiro is now mired at the Crumbling Bridge (still needs a Standard to unmire) and Fredrick is able to attempt obstacles at the Crumbling Bridge.
@Aod: You went backwards. The path travels in a serpentine manner. You go Crumbling Bridge to Guard Station, not Crumbling Bridge to Lingering Mob. I put you in the correct position.
Aod the Witchchild |
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Though he took an unconventional shortcut (heh), Aod still somehow manages to get ahead and slip through the crowd and into the open where the Mauler and his pet await. Sword drawn, he takes in the scene through eyes narrowed in barely controlled rage. One look at Beleg proves that Vilk hasn't gone soft in retirement.
"You after Rutowski now, Vilk?" He calls out in a strong voice used to telling stories outside of fancy theaters. "We saw him earlier. He wanted to help you, but I think you only got two options now, and a little wolvesbane covers both!"
For wolvesbane, do we need to convince him to eat it?
Aod the Witchchild |
Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20
"You're wastin your time Vilk!" Aod desperately grasps at something to get his attention. With a knowing glance at Haris, he takes a chance. "Rutowski's gone! He killed himself when we told him you were the Mauler!"
Haris, a little Sczarni help perhaps?
Aod the Witchchild |
Hmmm maybe? :) I'm thinking it might demoralize him if he still has any feelings for him. But I do know that Haris is the real con man, so can this serve as an aid another for him to seal the deal? As a bluff check that would be 14.
Haris Hawkson |
Should Haris try to bed him? I thought V knows that R knows V is a werewolf.

Fredrik Greymantle |
DM Bold you mentioned the mauler was attacking with a shortsword, how did he got the dmg to 2d6? I am guessing the second 2d6s are a sneak attack. Nasty enemy.
Fredrik tries to cross the bridge but it starts to crumble under his weight.
Acrob: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1
Aod the Witchchild |
Haris, I don't think Rutowski knew for certain that Vilk was the mauler. He spoke of them seperately at the beginning of our conversation with him. Either way, if Vilk thinks he might be dead, it might get him off Beleg.
Haris Hawkson |
F it "That's right Vilk. Hung himself tonight, next to a tray of cheese and heartache. Now back the pet off and let's talk." Bluff with assist: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 2 = 28

Beleg the Galtan |
Vital Strike. Vilk is a Fighter 6/Rogue 3
Vital Strike is a standard action so he wouldn't have been able to use it if he was full attacking Beleg. I'll wait for GM to confirm but if he couldn't have used Vital Strike that would have been 6 less damage and Beleg is at 1 hp.
Quarr |
Quarr begins to drink a vial from one of his elixirs. Within seconds his speed seems to increase greatly Expeditious rereat as he swims past the bridge.
swim: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 4 = 17

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
@Aod/Beleg: I'm confused. Vilk Vital Strike'd on his first turn when he moved and crit on the second turn during his full attack. A crit Vital Strike would have been 3d6. If you are wondering how he crit on an 18 with a short sword, he has Improved Critical(Short Sword).
@Takahiro: Just a standard action, no roll necessary.
Just to recap.

Vilk, in a rage, whistles before moving with his wolf to flank the Barbarian. He was mine to kill! Not yours! I WAS GOING TO ENJOY WATCHING HIM BEG FOR HIS LIFE WHILE EATING THAT CHEESE! He chooses Aod because he is acutely aware of the benefits and drawbacks of Full Defense being the previous Master of Blades.

Wolf took five diagonals: 5-15-20-30-35 and 3 non-diagonals: 40-45-50 to avoid AoOs. (It's under Vilk's lycanthropic empathy and has been hunting against humans with Vilk for about a month now). Mauler took 1 diagonal: 5 and 7 non-diagonals: 10-15-20-25-30-35-40. Each have 50 ft. move speed and Haris doesn't threaten while in full defense.
Edit: To be honest, I can see an argument either way for an AoO on the wolfhound. I'll say the wolfhound provokes from you Aod. It's not an intelligent creature so it may misjudge your "reach" to attack it back.
Aod the Witchchild |
I see. I miscounted the last diagonal. Jeez with the dice roller. I'll defer to go when Haris does in order to flank the Mauler.
"Focus on Vilk! Show him we can use wolf tactics too!"
Though bloodied, Aod grins. Flicking his wrist, a wand springs to hand. Then, spinning in a defensive tactic, he brings his sword around low at the Mauler while activating the wand to shield himself.
swift for wand of sheild, spell combat (wand wielder magus arcana lets him us the wand to cast shield without provoking, then attack), 5' step if needed.

I was talking about this string of attacks. The first one looks like it has 2d6 rolled for the damage dice but then he makes another short sword attack and a bite after that.
Beleg remains on the ground bleeding. It's become a familiar feeling to him.
GM Bold Strider |
@Beleg: Right, that was a crit, not a Vital Strike. I thought that Fredrick was talking about the first hit against you, which was a Vital Strike.
@Haris: Second Chance feat to redo your Acrobatics to tumble? Second Chance lets you hit at full BAB on a full attack if you miss your first hit, unless I am missing something.
[ooc]Edit: @Haris: I found it. Your Acrobat Rogue archetype ability. The roll is actually a 26. Second Chance gives you a -5 penalty, but that is more than enough to pass his CMD.
Aod the Witchchild |
Haris, if Aod takes a 5' step you won't need to tumble (I didn't move Aod yet). Also, if you are still full defense, then Aod doesn't get the flanking bonus. If you're worried about staying in combat, maybe you should withdraw and try to heal Beleg.
Fredrik Greymantle |
Fredrik decides to try his luck swimming the pond, glad that the waters will wash away the sewer's filth from his armor.
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
It looks like Paizo did not thought minus 10 ft of movement and armor proficience feat tax were good enough drawbacks to use heavy armor so they designed the chase rules. I did not like them before, I do it even less now.
GM Bold Strider |
To be fair, you wouldn't know that Beleg would last another eight rounds. You just see that he is bleeding out on the cobblestones. Technically, you see four Belegs bleeding out on the ground.
As Fredrik is trying to swim across the river and failing miserably, a guard from the station notices him and his junior lifeguarding lessons prompt him into action. Oi! Don't worry! I'll save you!
The guard throws a rope to Fredrik and pulls him to the other shore. The guard looks ready to give him mouth-to-mouth as Fredrik looks quite water-logged. Swimming in these waters with the Mauler about? You are quite brave... Name's Roy. Maybe we can go have a bowl of stew together at the Ticklefish?
Yes, the guard is hitting on you.
Fredrik moves to the next sqaure and must both roleplay his way to his compatriots and make it over the next obstacle.
Aod the Witchchild |
Much dislike for chases in situations like this where the enemy chased is so powerful that it requires the whole party to handle him. I'm wondering though, since the Mauler is pretty much po'd at us, if it's possible that we could withdraw and lead him on a chase backwards through the cards to Fredrik and Takahiro?
Haris Hawkson |
To be fair, you wouldn't know
Oh geez you're right, that was so meta it wasn't even funny.
And here's Haris's attack

Aod the Witchchild |
My guess is that was supposed to be two-weapon fighting, but I don't think he has 2 +1 adamantium shortswords (and the second bonus would be higher). Dirty is the "dirty fighting" trait - adds +1 to damage on flanking attacks.
